This fiery commentary dissects the dramatic reversal in U.S.-Saudi relations under President Biden and former President Trump. Once shunned for the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) is now portrayed as a modernizing force outpacing the Biden administration on global security and economic diplomacy. The discussion critiques Biden's approach to MBS, foreign oil dependency, and alleged support for hostile actors, while highlighting Trump's renewed efforts to strengthen ties with Saudi Arabia, boost U.S. economic influence, and counter China through strategic alliances and tech partnerships.

Ghost takes a deep dive into the rise of Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) and how his leadership is reshaping Saudi Arabia, global geopolitics, and Trump's strategic alliances. Originally planning to cover Trump Tower, Ghost pivots to a detailed breakdown of MBS's unexpected path to power, his war on corruption, and his vision to modernize the Kingdom. From the collapse of the old Saudi establishment to MBS's role in dismantling Wahhabism, this episode unpacks why global elites underestimated him, and why that was a colossal mistake. Ghost also explores the unfolding connections between Trump, Putin, and MBS, the Vegas shooting tie-ins, and why Kanye West is suddenly obsessed with Saudi Arabia. Also in this episode: The real history of Saudi Arabia, how the West manipulated Middle Eastern politics, and what MBS's rise means for the Deep State's long-term plans. This is layered storytelling at its best...don't miss it!

PUTIN PUBLICIZES TERMS OF POTENTIAL UKRAINE PEACE TALKS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Red Sea/HOA: Houthi targeting increases with two major incidents occurring over the past few days. Yesterday, three ASCMs successfully targeted the M/V VERBENA in the Gulf of Aden, causing severe damage. CENTCOM confirmed that at least one crew member was medically evacuated from the VERBENA due to wounds sustained during the attack. On Wednesday, Houthi forces successfully targeted the M/V TUTOR, a Greek-flagged cargo vessel (carrying coal) in the Red Sea. This attack was carried out via an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) and resulted in the TUTOR sustaining severe damage to the engine room. Per the latest reports, the vessel is experiencing severe flooding, and is reportedly not under command at this time. However, her current status remains unclear.AC: These attacks come as a Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report was released yesterday confirming that maritime traffic through the Red Sea has decreased by approximately 90% since Houthi targeting began.Middle East: Tensions between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia quietly increase following various diplomatic slights over the past few weeks. Last week, the 1974 petrodollar agreement between Saudi Arabia and the U.S. allegedly expired, with no replacement treaty scheduled to take effect. AC: While the 1974 agreement is legitimate, it's not clear as to if a 50-year expiration date is indeed contained within the text of the agreement. Regardless of the formalization of such a specific expiration date, the opportunity not being taken to renew Saudi-US relations during such a critical time in both nation's histories speaks volumes.Notwithstanding the formalization of such poor relations, the Saudis have been trading in oil using non-USD currencies for some time now (most famously including the recent unconfirmed claims of OPEC shifting to the Chinese Yuan). This recent diplomatic spat continues the already apparent shift in the diplomatic status between the two nations, and probably will result in more OPEC+ member states shifting away from the United States and more favorably in the direction of BRICS+.Additionally, Saudi Arabia has more directly signaled increasing dissatisfaction with the U.S. via Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MBS) abruptly canceling his attendance of the G7 summit currently underway in Italy. AC: MBS was scheduled to be a critical attendee of the summit (as Italy seeks to improve relations with the Middle East, and court various trade agreements that have been in the works for months). However, he canceled his trip just a few hours before he was supposed to arrive in Rome, citing pressing duties to oversee the Hajj season (which is a poorly-camouflaged excuse, as his attendance is not required for this holiday season, which has likewise been scheduled for many months). This G7 summit would have been his first attendance as he increasingly takes over the duties of the Saudi empire.Europe: In a televised press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin has publicly stated the conditions for a peace proposal in Ukraine.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Though the publicity of Putin's proposal may be surprising to some, this is probably Russia's last warning before the summer offensive comes to fruition. Though Putin's demands may seem unfair to the West (the annexation of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia, and Kherson, along with dropping Ukraine's NATO bid), Ukraine is almost certainly not in a position to offer much flexibility in negotiations (if they were to occur). Consequently, this may be the best deal Ukraine is likely to get. Despite the hubris of the

The show details the peculiar events that followed Jeff Bezos's dinner with MBS, including hacking Bezos's phone via Pegasus malware. This hack led to the National Enquirer, also owned by AMI, exposing Bezos's affair using the data obtained from Bezos's phone.  We'll link these events to a broader narrative of autocratic manipulation, drawing parallels to similar tactics used by Donald Trump and David Pecker to influence the 2016 election by silencing stories about Trump's scandals, including the Stormy Daniels affair. There finally seems to be some movement towards a peace settlement in the Yemen civil war, which has been raging for nine years now. The Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who have been fighting the Saudi coalition forces, are now in talks with Saudi Arabia with Omani mediation. Although the negotiations are expected to take time before they yield results, there is some optimism in the air as the talks are happening in the aftermath of a China-mediated agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia to resume diplomatic relations. While war fatigue could be one trigger behind the talks, another seems to be a clear shift in Saudi Arabia's foreign policy engineered by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). In recent months, in stark contrast to the aggressive foreign policy that he started out with --- starting the war in Yemen, the failed blockade of Qatar, the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey, the house arrest of Lebanon's Prime Minister and so on – MBS seems to have made a conscious switch to a more tactical foreign policy centred on building relations with all the key powers in the region. So, what are the contours of Saudi Arabia's new foreign policy? What prompted it? And does it signal a more peaceful West Asia in the long run?

The Coffee Klatch with Robert Reich

Friends,At President Biden's State of the Union address last week, Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene repeatedly yelled “Liar!,” Tennessee Republican Rep. Andy Ogles shouted, “It's your fault!,” and another Republican yelled “B******t!”Fourteen years ago, Republican Rep. Joe Wilson was formally rebuked by the whole House after shouting “you lie” at Obama.Yet now, anything goes.Meanwhile, Rep. George Santos remains in Congress despite mounting revelations of outright lies, fabrications, and shady deals that years ago would have sent a member of Congress packing. We've also just learned about Jared Kushner's quid pro quo with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). As Middle East adviser to his father-in-law, Kushner gave MBS everything he wanted — Trump's first trip abroad, permission to blockade Qatar, a pass on imprisoning leading Saudi citizens until they paid him billions and another on killing and dismembering journalist Jamal Khashoggi (as Trump later put it, “I saved his [MBS's] ass.”).Then, after Kushner left the White House, MBS reciprocated by putting $2 billion from the sovereign wealth fund he chaired into Kushner's private equity company.Where's the shame?Elon Musk's concern about the dwindling number of people seeing his tweets prompted the zillionaire to convene a group of engineers last Tuesday to discover why his engagement numbers were tanking. When one of the company's two remaining principal engineers explained it was likely due to waning public interest in Musk's antics, Musk fired the engineer. We used to call such behavior shameless. Now, it's just what the rich and powerful do.Shame once reenforced social norms. Through most of human history, survival depended on extended families, clans, and tribes. To be shamed and ostracized for violating the common good often meant death.Charles Darwin, in his book The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals, thought shame may have evolved as a way to maintain social trust necessary for the survival of a group and, therefore, of its members. In a 2012 paper, psychologists Matthew Feinberg and Dacher Keltner and sociologist Robb Willer found evidence that shame and embarrassment function as a kind of “nonverbal apology” for having done something that violates social norms. A display of embarrassment shows others that the embarrassed person is still aware of the group's expectations and is still committed to the group's well-being.Four centuries ago, public shaming included scarlet A's. “Ignominy is universally acknowledged to be a worse punishment than death,” wrote Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration of Independence who also sought to put an end to public stocks and whipping posts.A more recent version of public shaming occurred in 1954 when Joseph Welch, then chief council for the U.S. Army, stood up to Sen. Joseph McCarthy before a nationwide television audience. During a hearing in which McCarthy accused the army of harboring communists, McCarthy attacked one of Welch's young assistants for having once belonged to the National Lawyers Guild, which McCarthy considered a communist front.Welch responded: “Until this moment, Senator, I think I have never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness …. Have you no sense of decency, sir?” Millions of Americans watching the proceedings from their living rooms saw McCarthy as the dangerous bully he was. By shaming him, Welch shamed America for having tolerated McCarthy and the communist witch hunt he was leading. It was the beginning of the end of McCarthy's reign of terror. But today, shamelessness has gained a certain elan. Audacity, insolence, and impudence are welcomed. Irreverence is celebrated. We hoot when someone gives society the bird. Many Americans love Donald Trump's loutishness. Meanwhile, instead of being directed at behavior that undermines the common good, shame is now often deployed against people who don't fit in. Social media unleashes torrents of invective on people for little more than saying something silly or looking different or being socially inept. Shaming like this can cause a sensitive teenager to take his or her life. Why are those who violate social norms now treated like Wild West outlaw heroes, while those who are different are ridiculed? Why are bullies now applauded while those at the margin are ostracized? This is a public episode. Featured speakers: Ambassador Patrick Theros, Ambassador Robert Gallucci, Dr. Kenneth Katzman, Anna Jacobs, and Professor David Des Roches. Synopsis: U.S.-GCC relations have become more complicated. U.S. signals of reduced interest in the Middle East and the increase in American oil and gas production to the highest record ever just as the Russian invasion of Ukraine exploded on the scene have strained the relationship more than ever before. In actions unprecedented in the U.S.-GCC relationship, both Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) and UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed (MBZ) snubbed President Joe Biden's request for a telephone call. As of this writing, the response of both the Kingdom and the Emirates to Biden's request to increase oil production in order to dampen oil price rises and allow Europe to reduce its dependence on Russian energy seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Riyadh and Abu Dhabi appear reluctant to end their commitment to the OPEC+ agreement with Russia to limit oil exports despite rapidly increasing oil prices worldwide, an increase with serious political and economic ramifications in the United States. To state that these developments have provoked great speculation about the future of U.S.-GCC relations would be an understatement. U.S.-GCC relations have had their frictions in the recent past. America has expressed concerns for more than a decade about growing economic and, in some cases, security and geopolitical, ties between all the GCC states and China. The decision of the Biden Administration to find a way to restore the JCPOA, Obama's 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran from which President Trump had withdrawn the U.S. in 2019, went down badly with those GCC states which had hoped for continued U.S. confrontation with Tehran. They saw the JCPOA as a signal that Washington sought to improve relations with Iran, reversing decades of unquestioned U.S. support for the Gulf Arab states and unbending hostility towards Tehran. Combined with Obama's announced “pivot to Asia” in 2009, U.S. withdrawal from Iraq, and American support for the “Arab Spring” anti-authoritarian uprising, one can understand the concerns of some Gulf monarchies that the U.S. no longer cared about their security. Also, long-term contradictions in GCC views of the U.S. have resurfaced. On one hand, Biden rewarded Qatar, naming it a Major Non-NATO Ally, for its long-time loyalty in supporting U.S. activities in the region –not least facilitating the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. On the other hand, the U.S. continues to publicly criticize the Saudi-led war in Yemen, although it continues to provide material support to Abu Dhabi and Riyadh to defend against Yemen's Houthis attacks on both countries. What do the GCC states expect from Washington? Are they allies or partners or “is it complicated”? How do the different GCC countries see their bilateral relationships with the U.S.? Is there a collective GCC view? Most importantly, how does Washington view its interests in the region?

The trip marked an end to the international isolation he had experienced, following the murder of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. Why was it necessary for the Saudi Crown Prince to make the diplomatic regional tour? Perfect Imperfection: Socio-cultural and Religious Reforms in Saudi Arabia

Five years since then-Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) unveiled Vision 2030, reforms continue to be rolled out in Saudi Arabia. Early this year, for example, it announced new judicial reforms that set it on a course towards codified law – a major step for a country whose legal system is based on Islamic law.  While such reforms are aimed at boosting the liberalisation drive by softening the nation's austere image, jarring contradictions remain. Women's rights, for instance, remain a target of criticism – a recent article in The Washington Post revealed clandestine shelters that incarcerate “disobedient” women. This raises several questions: Is social change for real? What is the price of change? Social change is but one aspect of MBS' vision. Religion is another target. The crown prince has said that Wahhabism is akin to “deifying human beings”. This follows his championing of “moderate Islam” reining in the clerical class and resetting the role of religion in the state. How successful has this religious re-orientation been? What are the implications for Riyadh's role as the gatekeeper of the global Muslim community?

Today's Agenda: 1)  Pres. Biden orders Dept. of Justice to release 9/11 files on Saudi Arabia:  On Sept 3, 2021 Pres.  Biden ordered the FBI to conduct a declassification review and release secret files which show Saudi government involvement in the Sept 11, 2001 attack on World Trade Center.  It responds to US victims suing the Saudi government and pressure from US Congress.  Will Biden be the latest US President to side w/ the Saudis and keep America in the dark about it's role in the attack?2)  Will Saudi Arabia turn to Russia for 'Safe Harbor'? Pres. Biden promised a 'recalibration' of relations w/ Saudi Arabia for its killing of journalist Jamal Kashoggi.  Last Feb, he released a US intelligence report that concluded  Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) was responsible.  And by this coming Sept. 11, the Dept of Justice is ordered to release it's classified findings about Saudi involvement in the 9/11 attack of Al Qaeda.  Will all this lead to a major break in US-Saudi relations? If so, will Saudi's turn to Russia as it's new 'safe harbor'?3) Russia military cooperation w/ Iran:  United Nations'  sanction restrictions on Iran's importation of weapons from foreign countries, including Russia,  expired October 18,  2020. Since then,  Russia has been expanding military cooperation and discussing arms sales w/ Iran. Russia-Iran agreed to conduct regular naval exercises—not only in the landlocked Caspian Sea but also in the Gulf and its Strait of Hormuz.  What can the US do? 4) Pakistan Intelligence Chief visits  Kabul:  On Sept 3, 2021 Pakistan's intelligence ISI Chief  Gen. Faiz Hamid arrived in Kabul  leading  a delegation of senior Pakistani officials. Gen Hamid is the highest ranking foreign official yet to reach Kabul on invitation of the Taliban Shura.  Rumor is that he was pushing for his 'boy'  Sirajuddin Haqqani to have a senior position in the new Taliban government. But Mr.  Haqqani is designated a  Specially Designated Global Terrorist w/ $5 million bounty in Rewards For Justice Program wanted for the January 2008 attack on a hotel in Kabul, Afghanistan, that killed six people, including an American citizen, per FBI Most Wanted Poster? 5)  Counter-terrorism and Drone Strikes:  Pakistan PM Imran Khan said in June 2021 that Pakistan “will not allow the CIA or US special forces to base themselves inside his country ever again”.  Why?  And even if US drones are not operating from Pakistan bases, don't they need to fly through its airspace to reach Afghanistan to attack  Al Qaeda and ISIS targets?  Will Khan allow that?YOUR VISION IS OUR FOCUS Exceptional eye care in a professional, caring, & friendly environment. Abdus Luqman of Luqman Nation joins us to discuss police reform and what police want from a Biden administration. A recent CNN article tries to rehabilitate or at least cast a blind eye towards policing. The article revolved around a survey of almost 400 police chiefs across the US, administered by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), which asked law enforcement leaders to identify priorities for the incoming administration. "A clear majority said they hope the Biden administration will help increase trust in police, with 76% calling it a priority, and 57% wanting to address calls for police reform," CNN noted. "Fewer than half of respondents - 43% - said crime reduction was among their top three priorities for next year."David Rosen, author of “Prohibition New York City: Speakeasy Queen Texas Guinan, Blind Pigs, Drag Balls & More,” joins us to give an update on the case of Ghislaine Maxwell - friend and confidant of the late sex criminal, financier and friend to the American political elite Jeffrey Epstein - and a recent bombshell about former US President Bill Clinton. The Clinton bombshell comes from a Vanity Fair interview with the former president’s longtime aide, Doug Band. Band insisted that he knew nothing of Epstein’s misdeeds, but “got enough bad vibes that he advised Clinton to end the relationship,” the outlet noted. Band also said he refused to accompany Clinton on a 2003 visit to Epstein's private island of Little St. James, claiming it was among the few trips he did not take with Clinton while working for him. A spokesperson for Clinton told Vanity Fair that the visit never happened. "A brilliant man, our greatest President. But dévious, mister Kroeger....Dévious!"

Miután A TELJESSÉG IGÉNYE NÉLKÜL átmentünk néhány itt járt diktátorlátogatáson, beleugrottunk 3 fontos dokumentumfilm felemelő tanúságfelhőjébe, hogy aztán az NSYNC-n és AOC-n keresztül megérkezzünk Hajdú Eszter 2018-as filmjéhez ahol Bayer jobban égeti magát mint valaha. Talán választ adhattam az istenhívők legnagyobb melegek ellen felhozott kérdésére, ahogyan Eddie Izzard is megérdemelte az említést. Szerintem fontos epizód. President Nicolae Ceausescu of Romania Szintén 1978-ban fogadta a királynő a roman diktátort Nicolae Ceausescu-t akit állítólag annyira nem szívesen látott, hogy egy alkalommal konkrétan elbújt a bokorban, csak ne kelljen udvarias beszélgetésbe elegyednie. President General Suharto on Indonesia Öt évvel a látogatás előtt Suharto kormánya közel egymillió embert gyilkolt le mikor lerohanták a Kelet Timor nevű térséget, de ennek ellenére is az öreglány megtartotta a tisztelgő ünnepséget a kedves Indonéz uralkodó fogadására 1979-ben. President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe Még jóval a látogatása előtt (ami 1994-ben volt) a Zimbabwe-i uralkodó több mint 10ezer ember halálával volt gyanusítva -mikor a l980-as lázadásokat brutális ezközökkel verte le. Mindezzel mit sem törődve nemes kitüntetést kapott “Honorary Knight Grand Cross in the Order of the Bath”- címen. Később a kitüntetést visszavonták a kormány általánosan használt kegyetlenkedései miatt. It is Friday, and that means it is panel time! Starting with the G20 Summit: 19 leaders of the world's biggest economies and a representative of the European Union are meeting today and Saturday in Buenos Aries, Argentina, as part of the Group of 20, or G20, summit. US President Donald Trump, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau signed the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on trade this morning at the G20. Most analysts say that Trump's new pact is more sizzle than steak, more hyperbole than reality. It's a reasonable update of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), not a model agreement that changes the trade landscape forever. Despite Trump's use of the new USMCA tag, the Canadian prime minister referred to the deal as the "new North American Free Trade Agreement." He also said that the USMCA deal was more of a modernization of NAFTA. President Trump will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping for a working dinner tomorrow evening. Both leaders will surely discuss their ongoing trade war; the US has placed around $250 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods, to which Beijing has responded in kind. The two sides have yet reached a compromise to defuse tensions, with the US repeatedly pulling away from potential deals in hopes that China caves to its demands. One of Trump's hardest-line advisers on China trade, Peter Navarro, will participate in a Saturday dinner meeting. Is Trump underestimating China's resolve or overestimating his skills and understanding of The Art of the Deal? So, it's being reported that French President Emmanuel Macron confronted Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) over the murder of Jamal Khashoggi on the sidelines of the G20 summit Friday, French officials said. In a five-minute talk, part of which was caught on tape, Macron gave “very firm” messages to MBS over the killing, French officials told Reuters, and demanded that international experts take part in an investigation into the murder that the Saudi government is suspected of ordering. On the tape that I saw, I did not see a confrontation, but it was a good thing that Macron did at least raise the issue and call for an international investigation. It is also reported that the two spoke about the war in Yemen.Yesterday, President Trump abruptly canceled his planned meeting with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, citing the unresolved naval standoff between Russia and Ukraine as the cause. I would like to get your thoughts on this, but I think the Ukraine issue is just a cover. First, the Cohen story breaks, and as I understand it, Trump and Putin are supposed to be discussing nuclear disarmament. Putin is trying to get Trump to the table to discuss that, but US National Security Advisor John Bolton, being the hawk and hard-line anti-disarmament voice in the room, seems to be carrying the day. We've got all these stories and much more!GUESTS:Colin Campbell — Multimedia journalist for a number of national and international outlets.Elisabeth Myers — Editor-in-Chief of Inside Arabia.

President Trump has conceded that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) "could very well" have known about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. But he's still not going to punish Saudi Arabia's government for it.The CIA has “high confidence” in its findings that MBS directed Khashoggi's murder, and Trump was expected to receive a full CIA briefing today. Still, the president signaled in a statement earlier today that no matter what the CIA tells him, he still won't take retaliatory action against the Saudi government. What does this indicate?Trump said Saudi Arabia is a "great ally," is "leading the fight against Radical Islamic Terrorism" and has deep economic ties to the US. Giving up those ties would "be a wonderful gift" to Russia and China, Trump said, adding that it would fail Trump's "America first" mission. Trump then cast doubts on what the CIA may have learned about Khashoggi's death, saying, "We may never know all of the facts surrounding the murder."A new study says traffic stops aren't effective at reducing crime in Nashville, Tennessee. The findings of the Policing Project, a national organization dedicated to strengthening the relationships between police and the communities they serve, were presented to the Metro Council Monday. The organization found the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department made more traffic stops than any other city it studied, and black drivers were stopped more often than white drivers, particularly for non-moving violations. This sounds fairly consistent with policing around the country and a direct cause of why the practice is not effective. The mayor's office asked the Policing Project to “advise in the development of strategies to address disparities and improve community-police relations in the city.” Many progressive Democrats that won their midterm election bids, from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York to Minnesota's Ilhan Omar, campaigned on radically changing US immigration policy. One of their slogans was to abolish the principal immigration law enforcement agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). To turn that campaign slogan into reality means defunding ICE, which Democrats can do, if they choose, now that they have a majority in the House of Representatives.President Trump continues to promote the US economy as evidence of the success of his administration. A new class of capitalism has been created, and as a result, the once-powerful proletariat has been weakened by deindustrialization, offshoring and a perfect storm of neoliberal policies. A new class, the “precariat,” defined by unstable labor arrangements, lack of identity and an erosion of rights, has been created. What are we to make of this, and what does it really mean? Guy Standing writes, "[H]istorically, every progressive surge has been propelled by the demands of the emerging mass class. Today's progressive transformation must, therefore, be oriented to the precariat, driven by a strategy that appeals to enough of all its factions to garner adequate strength." What is the precariat, and second, how does it differ from the classes that have come before it?GUESTS:Ray McGovern — Former CIA analyst and co-founder of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Peace.John Burris — Lead attorney and founder of the Law Office of John L. As more and very diverse voices call upon the Trump administration to take action against the Saudi government relative to the apparent murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi, President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo continue to defend the US position by talking about weapons deals. Lockheed Martin is one of the nation's top weapons contractors, and according to Jeffrey St Clair, it rakes it in from the federal treasury at the rate of $65 million every single day of the year. How has Lockheed ascended to such heights? It is being reported that Secretary of State Pompeo warned Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman (MBS) that his future as king is in peril over the apparent murder of Jamal Khashoggi. What's really at stake here? Also, Saudi Arabia can weaponize oil production, and they've loaned us a few billion dollars in US bonds; does the US have any leverage here? A growing chorus of voices in the US political establishment — Senators Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio, for example — and in the private sector side are calling for action. As Turkey seems to be leaking out more data and info, how do you think this plays out? Senator Elizabeth Warren's release of a DNA test that suggested a lineage from a distant Native American ancestor has roiled the Cherokee Nation and others in indigenous communities frustrated about the seizure of cultural and social ties for political maneuvering. Why do some find this problematic? Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. said in a statement, “It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven … Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage.” Could there be any fallout for Senator Warren's DNA test? The US government closed the 2018 fiscal year $779 billion in the red, its highest deficit since 2012 as Republican-led tax cuts pinched revenues, and expenses rose on a growing national debt, according to data released on Monday by the Treasury Department. New government spending also expanded the federal deficit for the 12 months through September. US President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans have touted the tax cuts as a boost to growth and jobs, but what's really behind the numbers? So, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held talks with top Saudi leaders today as the kingdom is preparing to acknowledge that missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. Pompeo had a short discussion with King Salman before a longer meeting with the king's son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). There's a growing groundswell of people, such as senators Lindsay Graham and Marco Rubio, calling for MBS to go. Others, such as Pompeo and the president, seem to be working with the royal family to develop a cover story and make this go away. While damage control continues, what would be the international impact if MBS were replaced?Today is the last day to register to vote in 10 states and DC. In Georgia, there's a showdown in the race to become the next governor. Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams is calling foul play and asking for her opponent Brian Kemp to resign as the state's top elections official to avoid a conflict of interest. She accuses him of disenfranchising minorities for years, including his office's latest effort: suspending the processing of 53,000 voter registrations, mainly belonging to African-Americans. In North Dakota, voters are also protesting voter ID rules. Native Americans are pushing back on a Supreme Court ruling that could make it harder for them to cast their votes in the upcoming midterm elections. Last week, the Supreme Court ruled against overturning North Dakota's controversial voter ID law, which requires voters to present identification that verifies a current residential street address. Proponents of the law say it will help prevent voter fraud. Opponents say it will prevent many Native Americans from voting.GUESTS:Dr. Jack Rasmus — Professor of economics at Saint Mary's College of California and author of Central Bankers at the End of Their Ropes: Monetary Policy and the Coming Depression, who also writes at jackrasmus.com.Jefferson Morley — Journalist and editor who has worked in Washington journalism for over 30 years, 15 of which were spent as an editor and reporter at The Washington Post. 2 May 2016 - Even more than in the past there is this nexus between the progressive movement and the labor movement in the US. This week we were joined for the interview by the Chief Economist of the AFL-CIO, the deeply knowledgable Dr. William Spriggs. Dr. Spriggs kindly gave us an unusually long and detailed interview and we highly recommend visiting some of the pages, to which I refer during our talk. They are on the excellent website of the AFL-CIO here, here, here and here. At the top of the show Will fills us in on what is going on with the protestors who have just taken the Iraqi Parliament. Later in the show he gives us the promised update on the Scottish elections which will take place on 5 May. I start out on the newly released anti-austerity budget which has just been announced by the Trudeau government in Canada. I come back a bit later to give a lot of detail about the very aggressive Vision 2030 economic plan aimed at weaning Saudi Arabia off of its dependence on oil. Headed by favorite son Deputy Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman (MbS as he is called in Saudi), the plan is interesting and hopeful but will have to overcome significant resistance from Wahhabi fundamentalists in order to succeed. We'll see.... I also learned that Netroots Radio has moved all of the old shows to which we had links from this site. Of course, all those links are now dead. I'll have to figure out where they went and fix that.
