Chan also shares what led her to Bob Dylan and, how activism then and now really does move the needle. Rain is then joined by Linqua Franqa to learn how they got started in music, teaching and activism and how they are all connected. What makes a great love song? By chatting about our favourites maybe we can find the common elements. We were inspired by recording our 69th episode in the middle of February which felt like the right convergence of events to talk about songs that express a sentiment of love. Not lust. Not fleeting moments of teenage attraction. Not a rendezvous at the local discotheque. Long lasting, true, heartfelt, dedicated love. But also the pang of love lost - or true love yet to come to fruition. Featured songs: Pagan Poetry by Bjork, from Vespertine, 2001 To Make You Feel My Love by Adele, from 19, 2008 To Make You Feel My Love Trisha Yearwood, from Hope Floats soundtrack, 1998 A Chicken with its Head Cut Off and I Don't Want to get Over You by The Magnetic Fields, from 69 Love Songs, 1999 Everlong by Foo Fighters, from The Colour and the Shape, 1997 Ore D'Amore by Mike Patton, from Mondo Cane, 2010 Gold to Me by Ben Harper, from Fight for Your Mind, 1995 Soldier by Richard Dawson, from Peasant, 2017 Fix You by Cold Play, from X&Y, 2005 Good Woman by Cat Power, from You Are Free, 2003 All I Need by Radiohead, from In Rainbows, 2007 La La Love You by The Pixies, Doolittle, 1989 Is This Love by Bob Marley, from Kaya, 1978 Lover, You Should Have Come Over by Jeff Buckley, from Grace, 1994 I Can't Help Falling in Love and I Need Love by Luka Bloom, from Acoustic Motorbike, 1992 Socials: Fb: https://www.facebook.com/supersonicchat Electronic mailing system: supersonicchat@gmail.com The Twits: https://twitter.com/chat_sonic Insta: https://www.instagram.com/supersonicchat --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/supersonicchat/message
Ruby Doris Smith died at age 25 of cancer. It was an unfair death, concluding a short, unfair life. For two and half decades on this earth – from 1942 to 1967 – she experienced the brutal day-to-day realities of Jim Crow segregation. Yet her tombstone laments none of this. Instead, it codifies into stone one of the most basic principles of the SNCC, the civil rights organization she had been so dedicated and active in during her short life. “IF YOU THINK FREE,” it reads, “YOU ARE FREE.”✉️ Sign up for the Daily Stoic email: https://dailystoic.com/dailyemail

“You Are Free” é o sexto disco de Cat Power, projeto da artista norte-americana Chan Marshall. Welcome to Season 6 of the Exhale podcast! This season's topic is on surrender. In today's episode, Exhale podcast Host Holly Newton sat down and chatted with Rebekah Lyons about her new book that was released this week.Bestselling author, podcast host and national speaker Rebekah Lyons spent years battling fear, anxiety and panic until she found freedom in surrendering her yes to God. From moving to New York City with young children to adopting a child with Down syndrome from China, Rebekah realized that saying yes to who God says you are in Him, even in the small, ordinary moments of life, can create renewed spiritual vitality. In her new devotional, A Surrendered Yes: 52 Devotions to Let Go and Live Free (Zondervan, September 2021), Rebekah offers readers 52 reflections that will move them from striving and fear into freedom, joy and rest. She shares her own personal rescue journey of healing from anxiety and fear to finding renewed freedom in daily rhythms, and encourages readers to engage their bravest self, knowing that God sustains and upholds them. “The truth is that none of us want give up control,” says Rebekah. “But anything that God calls us to do is going to be beautiful, life-giving and restore our soul. When you read this book, it's not going to be all about massive decisions – moving across country, changing careers, adoption. It's really the small things that when we say yes, we get more armored for the big things. Every time I have said yes, reluctantly fearfully, tearfully, God has given me strength on the other side of yes.” Rebekah Lyons is a national speaker, host of the Rhythms for Life podcast, and bestselling author of Rhythms of Renewal, You Are Free, and Freefall to Fly. Scripture For Today:2 Kings 9:15“And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: “Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.”Our Rights Under Prayer pt 2Last time we began a new series on Prayer. We are going to be going indepth on our study in prayer…I want you to be able, when you finish this study, to take the devil “head on” in any attacks he initiates – and know, without any shadow of a doubt, that you are going to kick his rear end so hard he will have to take the 1000 year incarceration just to recover! AMEN?! In Luke 18:1 – we see we are to pray “always”…and that we should “always be praying.” That does not mean 24 hours a day….it means we need to be in a constant state of prayer…anything that is not lining up with the Word of God, we speak the Word of God over it….be it a parking place at the mall or somebody cutting us off on the highway or short changing us at the bank….don't get mad!!! Just declare the Word of the Lord over the situation and thank Him that He is working it all out! AMEN! From the point in time that you make Jesus your Lord and Savior, and you pray the prayer of repentance, Jesus treats you just like you have never sinned. That opens you up to all other avenues of prayer and you qualify for answers and deliverance based upon those prayers. But you have to speak Words of Faith…you do not start off by claiming and telling Jesus how wrongfully you are being treated…how unfair people are being to you…you don't start off by bad mouthing other people (and especially other Christians!)….if they are treating you bad…SO WHAT! Don't try to “get even” or anything like that…”Vengance is MINE saith the Lord! And I will repay!” What He is saying is He will take care of you and He will take care of jerking the slack out of the other persons chain as well. He will try to use what they did to you to get their attention and get them saved! Wouldn't it be nice to know, down the road, if that person came up to you, apologized and gave you a testimony about “how bad they felt…and through that, when you did not retaliate the way they were expecting…they wanted to know “why”? And they ended up finding the Lord, repenting, receiving forgiveness and now they are asking you to forgive them, too?! Wouldn't that be a lot better than you taking matters into your own hands, maybe making things worse, getting into trouble with the law or something…and the person NEVER got saved? And when you get Heaven, you get talked to by Jesus!!! So, role the care of it over on Him, Amen? You have to start where you are at. You might be in Jail…you might be homeless, in debt, sick, body ravaged by disease…wherever and whatever you find yourself in right now…START THERE! Don't say, “well, when I get this fixed, I will start to serve the Lord and spend time in prayer, etc.” The devil will make sure you NEVER have the opportunity to start that…you have MAKE the time to do it…MAKE the time to Praise Him NOW, while you are going through stuff….that is where He receives the Praise…and it is how YOU receive the Power from on High!!! Once you find out who you are in Christ Jesus – you will suddenly realize – YOU ARE FREE!!! Free from debt…free from bondage…free from sickness…free from disease…free from persecution…free from whatever has been holding you back! You might be in business for yourself right now…and the recession and COVID is just ravaging your business…you can't find two dimes to rub together…you might be in debt right now…so far behind on your bills that the bill collectors have stopped calling you…(that does not mean you don't try to pay your bills…it is an example that I am using that says they have given up...

Gospel Scripture: (all NIV) Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:24 “and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:25 (a) “God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood.” Hebrews 9:22 (b) “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:11 “Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.” John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Romans 10:9 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Luke 15:10 says “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” Ephesians 1:13–14 “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession- to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:15–23 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“ Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Sometimes it seems like there's so much that can go wrong in this world. It almost makes sense to worry, considering we have so many potential negative outcomes. Then when we try to stop ourselves from worry, it seems that only makes it worse - like a ball full of air jumping up after being held under water. But being anxious about something rarely helps us. Thinking about all the things that can go wrong doesn't prepare us for those situations, either because they never happen, or because we can't think about them clearly. With practice, we can learn a little more about worry and have a little more control over our emotions. By noticing that we have the freedom to be anxious, and allowing ourselves that freedom, we can begin to find our freedom to be calm. Today’s truth: You are FREE in Christ! What does this really mean and how does this change how we view ourselves? Rebekah Lyons, author of You Are Free, shares her journey to finding freedom and does a phenomenal job helping us understand the real meaning of the words, “free in Christ.” SUBSCRIBE to be the first to know when a new series launches!
Three years ago, a friend gave me a ticket to the She is Free conference. Rebekah Lyons, author of You Are Free and Freefall to Fly, was at the conference speaking about her experience with anxiety. I was sitting there, not comprehending what she went through and struggling to have empathy. Fast forward to a year later and I found myself struggling with debilitating anxiety. Ever since then, I've wanted to have a chat with Rebekah about anxiety and I'm so glad we were able to have this conversation and share it with you. Struck with Pain She never set out to be a voice on anxiety, but that is where life led her. “I think God always makes our pain become purpose.” She developed a panic disorder in 2010 after moving to Manhattan and remembered feeling alone in her experience. “My surrender moment was my first panic attack.” Her first panic attack was four months after moving to New York. It was sparked by a claustrophobia while her plane was landing in LaGuardia. This marked the beginning of a turbulent year of panic attacks. Rebekah remembers praying for healing one night in bed with her husband and waking up the next morning, a bit timid, thinking, “Did it take?” “When you're sick, you only see inward, you see what is broken, you see what is lost. When a healing journey begins, you begin to look up and look out and notice everybody else.” She remembers walking around that day looking outward. Finding an Answer for the Fear We are so gripped in fear, and we don't always know why. “It's the first time I've known the rescue of God in the 30 years I've called myself a Christian.” She began to research mental health in the church in search of the underlying root to her fears. “We are supposed to shout peace from the rooftops.” Rebekah recognizes that self-idolatry and false idolatry keep us from being stewards of God. “Holy Spirit, would you please show me any counterfeit Gods in my life. Have I elevated my gift of writing over you, the giver of words?” We have to put our trust back in God to find freedom and joy. In this new season of life, Rebekah and her husband are welcoming joy in to their life and are adopting. Their baby girl Joy will be joining them in December. In the Pursuit of Peace Rebekah advises those of you going through anxiety to get a journal and write down your thoughts every morning. Start a conversation with God; there is no right way to do it. “Invite God into the stress.” Reach out to friends to help you find the root of your anxiety, they can help identify the moments when you stop looking outward and retreat inward. When you know what is causing those deep-down feelings of discomfort, lay it all down and prioritize it all below God. “You cannot heal what is hidden.” We fall into traps of tying our identity to some thing instead of God. Rebekah is such a voice of healing and I adore her for it. Visit her website for free resources like tips for mental health and anxiety. Her book, You Are Free, is for sale wherever books are sold. Keep up with her work, life, and beautiful family on Instagram. XO, Kat Harris

Even if you don't know alternative rock band Jimmy Eat World, you have heard the band's music. Their 2001 breakthrough hit "The Middle" is a classic--and it's played everywhere. I got a chance to hang out with Jim and Tom from the band backstage at the Commodore Ballroom while they were in Vancouver touring their latest record, Integrity Blues--their ninth studio album. How does Jimmy Eat World decide on set lists after putting out a new record? What did the band get up to over the year long break? What does the band have in common with how 80s metal band Warrant wrote "Cherry Pie"? What do Jim and Tom think about the latest study that says people stop listening to new music at age 33? You Are Free! 04-23-2017 by Faith Family Church - Omaha
Our guests this week are Gabe (Q Ideas) and Rebekah Lyons (You are Free). They talk openly about how they prioritize being present with their three beautiful children. From battling perfectionism and how she discovered her calling, Rebekah talks about her journey. Today, the dance parties she has with her kids in the kitchen represent her freedom. But not until she walked through the trenches of motherhood and wrestled with resentment and anxiety did she find such freedom. Speaking from her two best selling books, Freefall to Fly and her latest book You are Free, Rebekah brings hope to every mom looking to find who God created them to be. What's more is the wisdom Gabe brought to the conversation about how he walked with Rebekah through the difficult years, but also how she championed his dreams. What you'll come to learn as you listen is the power of vulnerability, how being present with one another matters, and the importance of raising our kids to be human. My guest for The Happy Hour #129 is Rebekah Lyons. Rebekah is the author of Freefall to Fly: A Breathtaking Journey Toward a Life of Meaning and now You are Free: Be Who You Already Are. She is a mother of three, wife of one, and dog-walker of two living in Franklin, TN. Alongside her husband, Gabe, she serves as co-founder of Q Ideas, a nonprofit organization that helps Christian leaders winsomely engage in culture. When she's not busy writing killer books, you can find her reading and sipping a discriminating cup of coffee. In today's show, we cover it all. We start where all happy hours should start - a review on jumpsuits. If you don't know, Rebekah can rock a jumpsuit better than just about anyone out there. I later learn that one reason she can pull them off so effortlessly is because she's riding a bike with her son for about an hour every day. So, if you need a new goal, there you go. Riding a bike may just earn you a jumpsuit. In less trivial conversation, Rebekah shares about her newest book, You Are Free, which was just released yesterday. Y'all have heard me (at nauseam) talk about book covers, and this one is one of my favorites. It even feels good. Rebekah talks about the process of writing the book and battling the lies of the enemy to walk in obedience and write her story. She also shares about her family and their move to New York City with three kids, and how her son very cleverly caused himself to be sick at school day after day to communicate to his parents that it was time to move on. I am majorly inspired by Rebekah, and I hope that you are too. Make sure you hurry over and grab a copy of her latest book. {You can listen to the showHERE.
