Award-Winning, Finnish Blues Singer and Songwriter Ina Forsman calls in to The Junk and Jam Hour - all the way from Berlin, Germany - to discuss the joys and challenges of the work she had to put in to ensure that her latest, and third solo album, entitled 'All There Is' , was not just an exceptional collection of soul and blues music, but one that showcased her growth and evolution as an artist. Hailed as a contemplative songwriter, and a "vocal powerhouse," Ina's amazing musical journey began when she declared at six-years-old, that she was going to.be a singer, and started touring with a band at the age of 17. Other than discussing her upbringing, Ina shares her inspiration for some of her latest music, in particular lyrics that were born from the conversations she has recently had with the men in her life, and how some of the music was derived from the classic Motown sound. She also shares her passion for the blues genre, and how it has shaped her as an artist of soul. We also listen to and discuss her latest tracks, Don't Lose Today, a song about how our angst for building a better future for ourselves and loved ones, makes us easily forget how important it is to make the most of today, as well as Poor Heart, a song about our challenges with perseverance.   For more music by Ina Forsman, including her album All There Is - which critics have called a profound body of work - visit Ina Forsman For more about Junk and Jam, visit Junk and Jam Also visit Radio Free Brooklyn Background/bed music provided by freebeats.io

Hip-Hop Artist, Lyricist, Producer and Activist Luna Clipse calls in to The Junk and Jam Hour - all the way from Bulgaria - to talk about his triumphant journey in music, which began when he was mentored by his grandfather, who happened to be an extraordinary big band jazz musician, yet was so much of a stern tutor, that it led Luna to discover his own unique way of how to compose music for himself. Challenged by his own mental illness, Luna opens up about his very first bipolar manic episode, that found him alone in a hotel room hearing voices and visions that specifically called upon him to stop a looming apocalypse - which led to a dramatic scene enough for him to be imprisoned at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility for the Criminally Insane - the largest mental institution in the U.S. Luna talks about how he quickly learned how to use rhyming - or clang association - as a means to communicate with his other inmates, a particular trait that those inflicted with psychotic phases of bipolar disorder share; and the importance of building relationships with his fellow inmates - all of whom had to survive constant physical, emotional and mental abuse at the hands of those who ran the institution. Luna talks about how he aggressively used his trauma and anger he harbored after his release in local rap battles, until Jerry Wonda - multi-Grammy Award winning producer for the Fugees, Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson - convinced him to not only use that pain more positively to create music with a purpose, but to also be a voice for all those affected by bipolar and other mental ailments. We also listen to and discuss his debut track entitled, 'Lunacy' - and Luna gifts us with a special, impromptu lyrical evocation of the experience of being driven mad, his life spinning out of control, and the trauma that ensued. He also talks about his important work to destigmatize mental health issues, and how he - along with his partnership with NAMI - are making the cause and topic of mental illness, 'sexy' enough to care and talk about, and blesses us with the track, 'Scalped Eagle', produced with Havoc of the infamous Mobb Deep. Multi-Instrumentalist, Singer and Songwriter, Indie Alternative-Pop Artist Emmanuelle Sasson calls in to The Junk and Jam Hour to talk about her impressive musical journey which began at the age of 2 when she picked up her very first guitar, leading her to learn how to also play the bass, drums, ukulele and piano - all by the age of 13. We also play some of her breathtaking music from her first EP - released straight out of high school - entitled, "smoke&mirrors", including the explicit tracks Mind Full and Note to Self ; songs deeply reflective of a traumatic time in her life where she felt "comfortably broken." While known as a musical virtuoso - Emmanuelle showcases why she's also a prolific songwriter - as she and Christopher take a deep dive into peeling back the meaning behind some of her most substantive lines. Emmanuelle speaks freely about the despondently, vulnerable lyrics behind her music - which were mostly produced from a place of grief and anguish. We also play her most recent track, the painfully confessional Away From Me - from her upcoming sophomore effort. Sculptor, Site-Specific Installation and Multidisciplinary Artist, Designer, Architect, Engineer, Educator and Provocateur - Abigail De Ville - calls in to The Junk and Jam Hour to catch up with Host and fellow High School of Art and Design Alumnus - Christopher Albert - to largely discuss her journey to becoming an artist who unabashedly manufactures, emotive pieces of three-dimensional work, rooted in the stirring themes of the history of racist violence, gentrification, and lost regional history. Her provocative, site-specific installations are purposefully sourced from objects and materials found from the streets of the surrounding areas of her exhibition sites - with the aim to highlight the stories behind such found objects, and the interconnections between our shared, messy histories. On topic is the inspiration she gained from her late grandmother, who inadvertently instilled in her a deep appreciation/curiosity for the stories aligned with cast aside items; our everyday fascination with the accumulation of stuff; and the irony of her work - bringing outside debris into pristine, sanitary galleries, hopefully planting the seeds of more divergent, compassionate thoughts in otherwise unaffected art-goers. She also talks about the processes, challenges and successes of some of her most notable, renowned work, - including Harlem River Blues, No Space Hidden (Shelter), and New Migration - an installation centered on the theme of the Great Migration of African Americans who fled north during the Jim Crow era, attracting some controversial attention. Despite the seeming weight of these subjects - this informative interview is terrifically fun!
