Moment of Meditation: Earth Shaking Resurrections (Matthew 27:51-53)

''And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many (Matthew 27:51-53).'' When Jesus breathed His last, not only was the Temple curtain torn. The entire earth shook. Rocks were split. Graves were opened. This can happen with any regular earthquake. But this was a divine earthquake. A quake specifically sent by Jesus' power. Not just His omnipotent power as Creator of Heaven and earth. His resurrecting power of bringing new life to the dead. '''MANY''' of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised from the dead. After Easter morning, they went into Jerusalem and showed themselves to the people. They were sent into Jerusalem to proclaim Jesus' resurrection. And the Church numbered 120 some fifty days later. As they were among the first to proclaim the resurrection, they may be there to welcome you when you enter Heaven. Amen.

In the final part of his five-part series on Purchase Options and Purchase Lease Options, Simon discusses how to secure option contracts in the correct way, the big mistake most amateurs make with PLOs, and how to ensure your agreements are not challenged. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most investors make the mistake of thinking that option agreements are "cut and paste", when in fact they should always have fresh contracts drawn up by solicitors as every deal is different. Many solicitors DO NOT UNDERSTAND purchase lease options. Make sure your seller has the advice of a solicitor who does understand, and who is separate from your own solicitor. The Heads Of Terms document specifies exactly what you and your seller have agreed. This contains details such as agreed price, and seller and buyer details. For the sake of clarity and openness, always be honest about what you plan to do with the property. If you're planning to live in it, then make this clear. The Bible our spiritual manual exhibits strong and powerful ladies who demonstrated stable spiritual mindsets, love for families, and unwavering female strength. Mother's have inspired generations. However, the spiritual manual does not directly address the holiday of Mother's Day in its verses. Still, it often addresses the celebration of motherhood and mothers, such as in the following power word passages. Isaiah 49:15: "Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne?" Proverbs 31:25: "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come." Proverbs 31:26: "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." Proverbs 31:28–29: "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.'" YOU'RE A MIRACLE! As Sir Winston Churchill once said of democracy, 'Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or allwise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.… ‘ and as Mark Twain would quip, ‘If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it.’ Suffice to state that the Bible is not democratic. Moses has not been freely elected and his successor Joshua will not be subject to a mandate of the masses. How then should the people of God set up governance of the just, compassionate and righteous society required by God as a light to the nations? With a king! Led by Aaron Eime. Travel agents have been thrown a $47.6 million lifeline by the Government with a scheme to help them recoup nearly $700m spent overseas by Kiwi holidaymakers.Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Kris Faafoi says New Zealanders who have money locked up offshore because of cancelled travel plans as a result of Covid-19 will benefit from the new scheme to support the recovery of refunds and credits from overseas travels suppliers."We know the travel sector and their customers have taken a massive hit due to the disruption caused by Covid-19. The Government's been working with the sector to find a way to help agents assist their customers to get back money that they are owed by travel suppliers," he said. The Government would provide a consumer travel reimbursement scheme to help the return of credits to New Zealand consumers via travel agents. The scheme will be funded to a maximum of $47.6 million.Travel agencies will be paid:• 7.5 per cent of the value of cash refunds and• 5 per cent of the value of credits successfully secured on behalf of consumers. If an agent recoups $10,000 in a refund on cancelled travel, the customer gets that money back and the agent will receive $750. If it's a credit for the $10,000 cancelled travel, the customer gets the credit and the agent receives $500.Since border restrictions were imposed hundreds of agents have lost their jobs and businesss have failed.Kiwis last year spent between $7 billion and $9b on overseas travel, much of which went through agents who took a commission. This halted almost completely in March when global leisure travel ended. The travel sector and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment estimate ab out $690m of New Zealanders' money is locked up because of travel cancelled by Covid-19."We want to get that money back for Kiwi customers and into the local economy as quickly as possible. The scheme we are announcing today will help those in the travel industry with financial support to facilitate the recovery of those funds," Faafoi said."I know that travel agents and wholesalers have been working hard to recover refunds and credits owed to New Zealand consumers, but are under severe financial pressure, with many facing the prospect of insolvency.''Many of the outstanding bookings that remain stalled were complex to put in place and are complicated to unwind.''That's where the expertise of the sector is crucial to help consumers get back money tied up in stranded bookings.'"The travel reimbursement scheme will help increase the likelihood of consumers recovering refunds and credits owed to them. It will also give greater confidence to the travel industry by limiting further insolvencies."Faafoi said that the scheme would be established as soon as practicable, with details such as eligibility to be worked through over the coming weeks.Agents had also been eligible for the wage subsidy scheme. Before the pandemic they employed more than 5000 people throughout New Zealand.Agents put aside traditional rivalries to lobby for Government support and the group doing the negotiating comprised: David Coombes (managing director of Flight Centre NZ), Mark O'Donnell (chief executive of House of Travel), Malcolm MacLeod (chief executive of First Travel Group) and Simon McKearney (executive general manager Helloworld) ."This is good news for our industry. There's still a long road ahead but we're pleased to be getting some much needed support in what has been an incredibly difficult time for travel agencies in New Zealand,'' they said."Our people have been working tirelessly over the past six months to repatriate funds from travel suppliers into the hands of Kiwis. This funding will allow us to recoup some of the costs involved in that lengthy process. While borders remain closed, the industry faced a struggle but the support gives it some breathing room. The group said ti was grateful to Faafoi and acknowledged the work of Kirk Hope (CEO Business NZ) an...

Young people on benefits will be offered six month work placements under a new government initiative. The two billion pounds "kickstart" programme is designed to help 16 to 24 year-olds who are struggling to find jobs in the coronavirus crisis. There are concerns that employers will sack existing staff and use the scheme to plug gaps in their workforce. The Work and Pensions Secretary, Therese Coffey, told Martha Kearney that won't happen: "It’s the criteria that we have set, that’s why all applications will be assessed, it’s not the aim to see all of these employers will lay people off and bring in new people into the work environment." She went on to say: "This is mutually beneficial for the businesses, who’ll get some extra labour support but also are investing in the young generation and they’ll get that extra help as well with wrap around help for training and other costs. It’s an exciting time and I know there are many young people who are very keen to get into the world of work and we believe this scheme will help them do that." 'Many of the world's great leaders request to come to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach. They like it. I like it. We're comfortable.' - Donald Trump A bit too comfortable, perhaps. Donald Trump's opulent Palm Beach club Mar-a-Lago has thrummed with scandal since the earliest days of his presidency. Long known for its famous and wealthy clientele, the resort's guest list soon started filling with political operatives and power-seekers. Meanwhile, as Trump re-branded Mar-a-Lago "the Winter White House" and began spending weekends there, state business spilled out into full view of the club's members, and vast sums of taxpayer money and political donations began flowing into its coffers, and into the pockets of the president. The Grifters' Club is a breakthrough account of the corruption, intrigue, and absurdity that has been on display in the place where the president is at his most relaxed. In these pages, a team of prizewinning Miami Herald journalists reveal the activities and motivations of the strange array of charlatans and tycoons who populate its halls. Some peddle influence, some look to steal government secrets, and some just want to soak up the feeling of unfettered access to the world's most powerful leaders. With the drama of an expose and the edgy humor of a Carl Hiaasen novel, The Grifters' Club takes you behind the velvet ropes of this exclusive club and into its bizarre world of extravagance and scandal. _____ An astonishing look inside the gilded gates of Mar-a-Lago, the palatial resort where President Trump conducts government business with little regard for ethics, security, or even the law. This ground-breaking and shocking expose reads like a thriller. Perfect for fans of Fire and Fury, Team of Vipers and Fear.

The death of student Sophia Crestani at a party at a Dunedin flat last year is "a loss that can never be rationalised, justified or forgotten", her parents say. However, nine months after her death, it is hoped the launch of a charter in her memory will improve student safety and well-being in North Dunedin. The Sophia Charter is a multi-agency agreement signed this evening by stakeholders from the University of Otago, police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, the Otago Property Investors Association, the Dunedin City Council and the Otago University Students Association. The ultimate goal was to provide a ''circle of support'' to ensure that North Dunedin became a stronger student neighbourhood where residents took responsibility for themselves, each other and the wider community. The charter stemmed from the Crestani family's shared goal to ensure there would be improvements to student safety and well-being following her death.Crestani, a 19-year-old second year University of Otago student, died in October 2019 when she was caught in a stairwell pile-up at a flat known as The Manor in Dundas St.Parents Elspeth McMillan and Bede Crestani, of Wellington, said her death was a tragic loss for them, her family, friends, community and the University of Otago community.''It is a loss that can never be rationalised, justified or forgotten.''We want some good to come out of this, and by working with the students and support organisations, we hope to keep other students safe, so that they go home to their families and mature into caring, generous adults and have full lives.''Some courageous decisions have been made since Sophia died and we are here to support and endorse this new way forward.''Many of Crestani's relatives were present at tonight's signing ceremony, including her twin sister and friends from Wellington. They gathered in a packed room in the university's clock tower building for speeches and the signing of the charter by Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins, Fire and Emergency New Zealand East Otago assistant area commander Craig Geddes, University of Otago vice-chancellor Prof Harlene Hayne, Otago coastal area commander Inspector Marty Gray and Otago University Students' Association president Jack Manning.McMillian said The Sophia Charter was developed because "we didn't want her death to be in vain."She said her daughter wanted to be an actuary and loved children."She was joyful, creative, she always lit up any room she walked into. It's a big loss, not just for us - but for everyone. She always said she wanted to have children young... it's sad she won't get to fulfil those dreams."Crestani wanted to have the Otago experience and loved her time as a student, her father said."She loved her time here, she loved the community, she grew as a person and was making her own decisions, she was a lovely girl."Crestani said Sophia was "turning into a great young woman... It was a tragic time for us, it remains that way and always will do."The family were working towards a second scholarship in her name, with more than $70,000 raised for the first.Following Crestani's death, stakeholders met to renew their resolution to support students to reduce harm and to increase well-being.Measures enabled by The Sophia Charter for Community Responsibility and Wellbeing's and the accompanying agreement between agencies include that the university works with OUSA on opportunities to use Starters Bar in North Dunedin and other venues to support student social activity; that police continue to work with the university to establish a clear set of working principles regarding large parties and gatherings; and that the university continues to work with Government and the DCC on changes that will reduce alcohol-related harm.'TAKE TIME TO THINK'McMillian said she hoped students would take time to assess situations they found themselves in."Take that time to think or assess the situation and get out if you need to.   Across genres collaboration has always been both inevitable and necessary. However in hip hop perhaps there is a tendency to spread the myth of the lone wolf approach. The 'hustle' and the 'come up' are intrinsically valuable in the story telling of the genre and many successful artists are keen to point out they made it on their own. In reality hip hop is built on collaboration; Greats such as Outkast, Pete Rock & CL Smooth and Wu Tang Clan have benefitted from friendships under collective names.  Artists such as Kanye West have less overtly utilised collaboration; working extensively with long term collaborators like Mike Dean. This week Jack and Dylan look at some of the collaborative approaches of artists and collectives in Ireland. The DIY ethos is a common feature of much of the hip hop output in the country at the moment and many are replicating the model utilised by the likes of Odd Future and Brockhampton. Collectives like Gxrlcode and Rejektz Media are made up of not only musicians but graphic designers and videographers. The old adage 'Many hands make light work' proving convincing in the case of both rapidly growing groups. In the bigger picture the media is quick to fabricate competitive divides between minority and/or female artists such as Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. Being part of a forward thinking collective can further a sense of community and respect, halting any attempts to cause unrest. All this and more is discussed in the latest episode.

Nick Bryant: Trump digs in on controversial tweets: 'Many people agree with me'

Defiant in the face of widespread criticism, President Donald Trump renewed his belligerent call on Monday for four Democratic congresswomen of color to get out of the U.S. "right now," cementing his position as the most willing U.S. leader in generations to stoke the discord that helped send him to the White House.Content to gamble that a sizeable chunk of the electorate embraces his tweets that have been widely denounced as racist, the president made clear that he has no qualms about exploiting racial divisions once again."It doesn't concern me because many people agree with me," Trump said at the White House. "A lot of people love it, by the way."The episode served notice that Trump is willing to again rely on incendiary rhetoric on issues of race and immigration to preserve his political base in the leadup to the 2020 election. There was near unanimous condemnation from Democrats for Trump's comments and a rumble of discontent from a subset of Republicans — but notably not from the party's congressional leaders.Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, the GOP White House nominee in 2012 and now one of the president's most vocal GOP critics, said Trump's comments were "destructive, demeaning, and disunifying."Far from backing down, Trump on Monday dug in on comments he had initially made a day earlier on Twitter that if lawmakers "hate our country," they can go back to their "broken and crime-infested" countries. His remarks were directed at four congresswomen: Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan. All are American citizens and three of the four were born in the U.S."If you're not happy in the U.S., if you're complaining all the time, you can leave, you can leave right now," he said. The president's words, which evoked the trope of telling black people to go back to Africa, may have been partly meant to widen the divides within the House Democratic caucus, which has been riven by internal debate over how best to oppose his policies. And while Trump's attacks brought Democrats together in defense of their colleagues, his allies noted he was also having some success in making the controversial progressive lawmakers the face of their party. The president questioned whether Democrats should "want to wrap" themselves around this group of four people as he recited a list of the quartet's most controversial statements. The four themselves fired back late Monday, condemning what they called "xenophobic bigoted remarks" from the president and renewing calls for their party to begin impeachment proceedings.Trump "does not know how to defend his policies and so what he does is attack us personally," said Ocasio-Cortez.House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who said Trump's campaign slogan truly means he wants to "make America white again," announced Monday that the House would vote on a resolution condemning his new comments. The Senate's top Democrat, Chuck Schumer of New York, said his party would also try to force a vote in the GOP-controlled chamber.Trump, who won the presidency in 2016 in part by energizing disaffected voters with inflammatory racial rhetoric, made clear he has no intention of backing away from that strategy in 2020."The Dems were trying to distance themselves from the four 'progressives,' but now they are forced to embrace them," he tweeted Monday afternoon. "That means they are endorsing Socialism, hate of Israel and the USA! Not good for the Democrats!"Trump has faced few consequences for such attacks in the past. They typically earn him cycles of wall-to-wall media attention. He is wagering that his most steadfast supporters will be energized by the controversy as much, or if not more so, than the opposition."It's possible I'm wrong," Trump allowed Monday. "The voters will decide."The president has told aides that he was giving voice what many of his supporters believe — that they are tired of people, includin...

The Fable of the Orang-utanby Barry J. Northern Deep in the jungle, a family of young orang-utans played in the trees around their wise old father, who was content to sit and watch from his nest in the branches.Old Man's youngest son stopped by the nest while his brothers played on. He was in high spirits, and said to his father. "Oh, this playing is fun, Father, but I might stop now.""Why stop?" said Old Man, "The day is yet young, and the weather is fine." "Oh, it will be fine tomorrow too. I can play then."Old Man laughed. "Young one, there is a saying 'don't count your chickens before they are hatched', which means don't count on fine weather tomorrow before tomorrow comes. Go now and play."And so Young One laughed and swung off to join his brothers. Now Old Man's eldest son had overheard this, and so he also stopped by the nest, and said to his father. "I have heard all your sayings, Father. I too am wise, see." And so Eldest Son swung among his brothers, dispensing advice. Young One was about to swing onto a branch that Eldest Son saw was too thin, and so he shouted, "Look before you leap!"Then after a time the games of the middle brothers became too rough, for they were trying to hit one another with sticks, and so Eldest Son cried out, saying,"He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword!"Then he spotted Young One again, who had found a branch of figs, and was throwing away the small ones to get to the large."Waste not want not, Young One!"Now as Eldest Son swung about the tree like this, Old Man chuckled. Eldest Son heard him, and his heart filled with pride, for it must surely mean that his father was pleased with him. And so he swung about correcting his brothers all afternoon.Purple evening benighted the jungle, and Eldest Son thought to himself. "It will soon be bedtime, but I am grown now, why should I share a nest with my brothers?" And so he set about gathering leaves for his own nest. His brothers saw him at work, and asked him what he was doing. They were upset to learn he no longer wished to share their nest, yet they loved their brother, and though they did not understand why he wished to be apart from them, they offered to help him make his own nest, for the jungle nights draw in fast. But he would not accept their help, saying only, "Too many cooks spoil the broth."When night came, his brothers were all asleep, and yet Eldest Son's nest was still not finished, for he was used to making bed with his brothers. Old Man came to him then and asked what he was doing."It is time for me to have a nest of my own, Father.""I see. But why did you not accept your brothers' help, for you would surely be finished by now if you had.""But, Father, do you not say, 'Too many cooks spoil the broth'?""Ah yes, but don't I also say, 'Many hands make light work'? Even so, I can understand why a young man would want to build his first nest himself. Why though did you begin building so late?""As you say, father. 'Don't put of tomorrow what you can do today'.""Ah, but do I not also say, 'Look before you leap'?""But I know these things!" said Eldest Son, and then became sullen. Old Man only smiled."You must learn not to take my sayings so literally my son, for they are only a guide, and talk is cheap. You must find your own way in the world, and learn life's lessons as best you can. Sometimes the hard way is the only way.""I think I will never understand, father.""Ah, so now you can see you know less than you once thought. That is the start of wisdom, Eldest Son. But I cannot leave you now without one last saying, for as you know, I am rather fond of them." Old Man's chuckle made Eldest Son laugh."What is it father?"Old Man clapped his son on the shoulder. "This is a truth I think you have learnt today, son. 'There's a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path.'”The Fable of the Orang-utan by Barry J. [This episode first aired May 23, 2009.]For 341 years, the poets laureate of Britain have all been male. That just changed with the appointment of Britain's new poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy. Her work has been described as 'dealing with the darkest turmoil and the lightest minutiae of everyday life.' The hosts discuss Duffy's oddly jarring and sensuous poetry. Also this week, they talk about whether it's ever correct to use the word 'troop' to mean an individual person, and whether the word 'literally' is too often used figuratively, as in 'He literally glowed'?Martha reads Carol Ann Duffy's poem, 'Glad,' which can be found here along with several others.'You look like the wreck of the Hesperus!' It means you look 'disheveled, ragged, dirty, hung over, or otherwise less than your best.' It may sound like an odd phrase, but it made perfect sense to generations of schoolchildren familiar with this Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem about a ship in a storm-tossed sea. Here's an early edition of the poem, along with some splendid old-fashioned illustrations. If a Scotsman says he 'takes a scunner' to something, he means it gives him a feeling of loathing or revulsion. Grant and Martha discuss this term's possible origins. For more about the word scunner, check out the 'Dictionary of the Scots Language' .Grant reads another poem by Carol Ann Duffy, 'Valentine' .Quiz Guy John Chaneski has a quiz called 'States of MIND,' in which the answers are words formed by combining the postal abbreviations of states. Try this clue: 'A word that refers to your knowledge or intellectual ability. The seat of your faculty of reason.' The answer? Michigan and North Dakota, the abbreviations for which spell out the word MIND.A recent PBS special about 'Appalachia' has a caller wondering how to pronounce that region's name. Why do we say that someone is inexperienced is 'wet behind the ears'? The hosts tackle that question, and discuss whether Barack Obama misspoke during the 2008 presidential campaign when he used a similar expression, 'green behind the ears.''To go on the lam' means 'to flee' or 'attempt to elude capture.' But why 'lam'? In an earlier episode , Martha explained the origin of the expression 'to boot,' meaning 'in addition' or 'besides.' That prompted an email from a listener wanting to know why we speak of 'booting a computer.' Grant has the answer.Martha shares listeners' responses to an earlier minicast about the Italian-American expression 'macaroni and gravy.'Many people are irritated by using the word 'troops to refer to a small number of soldiers,' as in 'Two troops were wounded.' Is it ever correct to use the word troop to mean an individual person? The hosts explain that in the military, it's actually quite common to use the word troop to refer to just one person.Does the expression 'call a spade a spade' have racist roots? Martha explains that it derives from an ancient Greek phrase, but cautions against its use nevertheless. When you hear the 'F-word' in a modern Hollywood movie about life in an earlier century, you may wonder if this expletive is an anachronism. Is the 'F-word' of recent vintage, or did Hollywood actually get right this time?'I 'literally' exploded with rage!' Using the word 'literally' in this way grates on many a stickler's ear. Moreover, if it's okay to 'use the word 'literally' figuratively, then what do you say when you actually do mean 'literally'?
