They say athletes die twice: once when the game ends, and again when the world forgets their name. But for @alyshanewman, at this rate, that's not a death she'll have to face. Maybe you know her as “the one who twerked after winning an Olympic Bronze Medal.” Or perhaps as “Canada's pole vault record-holder.”Thing is, titles don't tell the whole story. So we made it our mission to capture it. From injuries to brain scans to starting up an OnlyFans account, she keeps nothing in the vault. She reminded us that champions don't just play the game — they raise the bar (in more ways than one.) Hear how she does it.
“It was an overwhelming feeling of emotion. I had put London in a box in the corner of my heart, had shielded it up, stored it away. In the weeks since, it's been trying to unpack a lot of those feelings and the gratitude that 12 years later, there's actually justice coming.” Share Russian middle-distance runner Tatyana Tomashova may be stripped of her 2012 Olympic 1500m silver medal after being found guilty of a second anti-doping violation and being banned for 10 years. American Shannon Rowbury, who originally finished sixth in the 1500m Olympic final at the London Olympics, may receive the bronze medal after three women ahead of her have been disqualified for anti-doping offenses. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced an arbiter determined Tomashova is now banned for 10 years and lost all her results from June 21, 2012 to Jan. 3, 2015 after her out-of-competition drug test samples from June 2012 and July 2012 were re-tested and come back positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Tomashova initially finished fourth in the 1500m final at the London Olympics. Turkey's Asli Cakir Alptekin and Gamze Bulut, who were the original 1500m Olympic gold and silver medalists, have also been disqualified for doping. Bahrain's Maryam Yusuf Jamal has been upgraded from bronze to gold. Tomashova was upgraded to silver. Abeba Aregawi was moved up from fifth place to bronze. Rowbury would be upgraded from fourth to bronze. This would have been the second global championship medal for Rowbury in her career after her 2009 World Championship 1500m bronze medal and would have made her the first American woman to medal in the 1500m at the Olympic Games. We actually recorded this while we were in Paris but had to keep it under wraps for a bit. This was just a few days after Alison Dos Santos earned his second Olympic bronze medal in the men's 400m hurdles. He went on to win the 2024 Diamond League title and finished the year with a personal best of 46.29, which puts him at No. 3 on the all-time list behind Karsten Warholm and Rai Benjamin. We talk a bit about the state of the men's 400m hurdles. His experience in Paris and his excitement around becoming the first South American athlete to sign with Grand Slam Track. He will be contesting the 400m and 400m hurdles four times per year at the four Slams in 2025 for the inaugural season of Michael Johnson's professional track league. Born in Savlamar, Jamaica, Akeem didn't have much of an advantage from the beginning. With limited options and tragic events happening early in life, he moved to Canada with his mother seeking a better life. However, they fell into tough times and struggled to find stability, moving many different times in a short period of time. Down but not out, with the help of some friends, they were able to get back on their feet. Akeem became involved in sports, mainly football and track and field. Akeem excelled both on the field and on the track and won many different awards. In the 11th grade, he started to gain offers from Division I schools in the United States. Nevertheless, Akeem's path to becoming an NCAA Division I student-athlete was not smooth. After failed attempts with the S.A.T. and the A.C.T. once, Akeem did not get the scores he needed to accept a full athletic scholarship from an NCAA institution. You would think all of this adversity on top of having multiple learning disabilities would've stopped Akeem from furthering his education. But quitting has never been an option. He attended Barton Community College in the fall of 2010. Two years later he would go on to make his first Canadian Olympic Team and earn All-American honours, becoming a national champion and earning a full athletic scholarship to The University of Alabama. Akeem eventually went on to become the first in his immediate family to graduate from college on top of becoming a Division I Track and Field All-American. Through perseverance, a resilient mindset and a stubborn attitude to succeed, Akeem has become a 2x Olympian (2012 & 2016), helping Canada bring home an Olympic Bronze Medal at the Rio Olympic Games. With an intriguing story and captivating delivery, Akeem takes you through the highs and lows, and shows you what a resilient mindset can achieve.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Harry Garside is all about challenging stereotypes. So let's start by challenging some of yours. What do you think of when you think ‘champion boxer'? Is it someone who dances ballet? Who paints their nails? Who augments their training with meditation, juggling and Schulte tables? If you answered no to these questions (or if you simply want to know what a Schulte table is!), this episode is for you. Fresh from his bronze medal performance in Tokyo, Harry joins Ben and Tim to open Season Four of the Unforgiving60 with an amazing reflection on his life to date – inside and outside of the boxing ring. 04:25 Reflections on an Olympic Bronze Medal at Tokyo 05:30 On mellowing (now wallowing!) in loss – a lesson from Tim Grover 10:45 On identity and role – how to ensure you are more than what it says on your business card 13:40 The beauty of being human – in all its weirdness and individuality! 14:40 Ballet as boxing preparation – lessons from the Gold Medal Ready Program, including ‘getting comfortable being uncomfortable' 17:30 The importance of mentors – and a close inner circle - in Harry's life 21:00 On negativity bias 22:30 Dealing with fear 24:00 What does a normal training day look like for Harry – and how is it meditative?! 25:35 Ben asks the dumb question – what are the Olympics like? 27:41 …and did COVID ruin the experience at all? 30:15 The (semi-)mandatory U60 question – what's Harry's power song? 32:00 Harry's Hall of Fame – and why Harry has these people tattooed on his leg (hint: it's not just because they're great boxers) 34:40 Should you encourage your kid to get into boxing? 37:52 Tim takes the opportunity to bring up the time that Ben got absolutely smashed by the great Chris Collard…. 38:45 On vulnerability – there's nowhere to hide in a boxing ring! 40:30 What does Harry need to reach his next goal? 44:30 What's Harry reading at the moment? 45:31 How can Schulte Tables make you a better boxer? 49:05 What's changed for Harry since the Olympics – and what's next www.unforgiving60.com Email us at debrief@unforgiving60.com Social Media (Instagram, Twitter): @Unforgiving60 External Links Tim Grover, Relentless Music The Externals – available on Spotify Ben Frichot - available on Spotify
"I think if I can be in 3:27 shape again and just be stronger to maybe be able to run 3:28.5 in the final, that's the best I can do. If they keep getting better and run 3:25 or 3:26 in the final of a major championship, I've got to be honest with myself and say, 'Well I'm not there yet.' Because I'm not. I can run 3:27-high in a major championship this year. I know I can. If that wins, it wins. But it was the same conversation back in 2020: We can run 3:29 in the Olympic final and we just have to be happy with what that comes out with. We're chasing to be the best in the world. I want to be world champion this year. Everything that I can do to make that happen, I'm going to try. At the end of the day, if I cross the line running my best race as I did in 2021, I'll shake everyone's hand and be happy with my performance and how I represented myself and my brand at that major championships." My guest for today's episode is Brooks Beasts star and 2021 Olympic 1500m bronze medalist Josh Kerr. This man is entertaining to watch. Last summer with 5000 to 1 odds, he finished third in Tokyo with a 3:29.05 personal best. He was just shy of Mo Farah's outdoor 1500m British record. Just a few weeks ago, he ran 3:52.27 for the mile at the Millrose Games and finished second to Olli Hoare, who many heard in the After The Final Lap episode. So we get a little bit of a response from Josh on Olli's comments that he was outclassed by Olli in the final 100m of the race. It's setting up to be a solid rivalry with some head-to-head matchups to come at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon and also at the Commonwealth Games. Before all of that, Josh wants to be a British record holder so this weekend he's heading to Boston University to try and break Peter Elliott's indoor 1500m and mile British record. We talk a bit about his plans for that but also his plans and hopes to make this an entertaining season. Josh chooses his races wisely and he wants to make it appointment viewing. He's a great showman for the sport. SUPPORT THE SPONSORS FINAL SURGE: No matter if you are an athlete or a coach, Final Surge helps plan and attain both short, and long-term training success. In the water polo community, Mel and Bec Rippon hardly need an introduction. The sisters from Sydney have together been to 5 Olympics and share an Olympic Bronze Medal from Beijing in 2008. While both sisters have since hung up the swimmers (except for a few sneaky Beach Water Polo Fours appearances), Mel and Bec weren't ready to say goodbye to water polo, both becoming extremely successful coaches in the water polo community. Bec is now the NSWIS Head Coach and Aussie Stingers Assistant Coach, while Mel coaches the ACU Cronulla Sharks Women's National League Team. While you would expect two high achieving siblings to have a crazily competitive upbringing, Mel and Bec have both supported one another throughout each stage of their careers and only been excited for one another. With their step-sister Kate Gynther, it wouldn't be hard to argue that these sisters would have one of the best family Fours team in Australian Water Polo. In this episode, Mel and Bec talk about their upbringing, sibling non-rivalry, parental support and the rise of women stepping into coaching positions._________________________CHECK THIS STUFF OUTTreading Water Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/265479804332662/Instagram: www.instagram.com/beachwaterpolofoursFacebook: www.facebook.com/beachwaterpolofours

I tried it myself and I found ARCPanel to be the fastest and most intuitive panel out there. ARC Panel provides 16-bit luminosity and saturation masks for lights, darks, midtones and zones, with options to refine and apply them to any kind of adjustment layer. The panel can also perform complex luminosity masking techniques including Frequency Separation, Orton Effect and Dodge/Burn. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES: Let Your Mind Run: A Memoir of Thinking My Way to Victory GUEST BIOGRAPHY: DEENA KASTOR I have been running since I was 11 years old and have learned over the years that there is no greater influence on success than the power of optimism. When we are positive, we master our physical potential. The power of our own thinking can open doors and elevate our performances. With optimism I have been able to pursue every goal, win medals, earn American and world records, but more importantly, I've been able to be resilient in the face of injury and falling short. Optimists are dreamers, believers and solution seekers. I believe that these lessons are universal and not running exclusive. In the latest edition of my podcast "Think.Do.Lead.", I had the honor of speaking with a legend of the Olympic movement, Anita DeFrantz, Connecticut College '74. DeFrantz has made her mark as an athlete and an activist. She won a bronze medal in the 1976 Summer Olympics for rowing and was the first woman to represent the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the United States when she was elected in 1986. With the Winter Olympics coming to a close, she was the perfect guest for this episode of “Think.Do.Lead.” For more information on "Think.Do.Lead." and Connecticut College President Katherine Bergeron click here.
