The Theater application for the Apple Vision Pro by Sandwich Vision launched in June 2024 with the spatial livestreaming of John Gruber's live interview of Apple Executives at WWDC. They have been collaborating with independent producers of spatial video to distribute rentals and purchases of immersive content spanning across stereoscopic 180-videos to educational planetarium content to more experimental dome content as well as stereoscopic captures of live music performances (I can highly recommend checking out Fungi: Web of Life by K2 Studios). Users can also connect their private collections of movies via Plex Media Servers to enjoy their own private movie collection in a virtual home theater experience with a number of different theater options. They're also currently implementing social features, and may start having live screenings of classic movies with potential collaborations with independent movie theaters. I had a chance to catch up with Sandwich Vision co-founder Adam Lisagor to hear a bit more about his journey into the XR space, how he's blended storytelling and technology throughout his career, as well as his hopes for what might be a new renaissance of spatial video content given Apple's emphasis of on 180-degree spatial video rather than the VR filmmaking era of 360-degree videos. Another double header!First up, today is iPhone pre-order day, and that makes it a great day to drop my interview from July with Adam Lisagor, the man behind Sandwich — the firm that got its start making ads for apps and companies big and small because of the the original iPhone and has gotten BACK into the app development game for the Vision Pro with the apps Television and Theatre — with the later being used to broadcast a live event captured in 3D and Spatial Audio at this June's Apple World Wide Developer Conference. This conversation with Adam, whose work I have long admired, is one of the most philosophical I've had all year, and hopefully will give you a nice think about media and the tools we use to make and consume it.Then, NoPro's roving correspondent Martin Gimenez brings us an on-site interview with On Site Opera's General Director & CEO Piper Gunnarson as its next and Artistic Director Sarah Meyers recorded at this year's World Opera Forum and annual North American Opera Conference hosted by the LA Opera this past June. They dig into the past, present, and near future of the company, including the recently announced World Premiere of Lucidity which runs November 14-16 at Abrons Arts Center in New York City.SHOW NOTESSandwichTelevision (Apple Vision Pro)Theater (Apple Vision Pro)Video: playing with dalle3 images, luma image-to-video, and suno music. After getting burned by Humane's Ai Pin and Rabbit R1, we've been skeptical of AI gadgets. But a new device called Friend entered the chat, so we interviewed Adam Lisagor of Sandwich Video and “Friend” trailer director Kaylee McGee about their first hand experience with this new type of AI wearable. Adam Lisagor, Founder of Sandwich Video, shares what he's learned about the nature of storytelling, about how to zoom out to tell the story of your product, understanding the emotional valence of our work, when pre-visualization and storyboarding does and doesn't pay off, spotting great talent, the value of making pretty good decisions quickly, learning how to let go (a little bit) as a founder, execution-centric leadership vs. results-centric leadership, what kinds of products he likes to invest in, and making people glad to have worked with you. Where is AI in 2023 for filmmakers, photographers and the creative industry, with Adam Lisagor (https://allconsuming.show) Watch the episode on YouTube (https://youtu.be/r3XaMgFwMyg)
After a short break, Noah and Vivian return with another episode of JPEG2000 and it is another episode on artificial intelligence. This episode of J2k is sponsored by Dirt, a daily(ish) newsletter about digital pop culture and entertainment. JPEG2000 is still brought to you by Context.app, the best way to keep up with what's happening in web3. Context is also behind mint.fun, a product that allows you to mint new NFT projects safely from one interface.Since their previous episode about AI (episode 2), the conversation around AI has exploded and gone viral. Dall-e mini memes proliferated everywhere utilizing Dall-E mini now known as Craiyon, a text prompt AI image generator. An artist utilizing AI won first place in an art context, and the New York Times wrote about it. With that has also come skepticism, criticism, and fear regarding AI. Noah recalls an episode of his previous podcast All Consuming, he co-hosted with Adam Lisagor where he tests and discusses an AI tool called Parlo. Noah discusses his consistent discomfort about AI. William Wiebe is an artist and researcher whose work deals with machine perception, and created a project called SMPLVERSE which utilizes a synthetic data set created by Microsoft to train face tracking algorithms to translate facial expressions into the VR experiences. When connecting your wallet, you are prompted to take an image of yourself which is matched to one of the images in the data set. Vivian's Smpl can be seen here. Noah's is here. Noah calls Vivian in the middle of recording because he thinks the episode is too dense and needs a break. They collect a piece from Maya Man's project Fake It Till You Make it. Vivian revisits unused audio from David Young, artist and guest in JPEG2000's first episode on AI. David shares his concerns about bias issues with machine learning. This leads to a conversation where Noah discusses his thoughts about the ethics of AI and references an article by waxy.org. Noah and Vivian have a back and forth on the subject. During the Rose and Thorn portion of the show, Noah complains about Adobe and Vivian complains about COVID. JPEG2000 is edited and engineered by Paul O'Mara. The JPEG2000 music is by piano extraordinaire Yuri Beats. Noah and Vivian love attention so give them a call and leave a message on the JPEG2000 hotline by calling 845-377-3484.

If you enjoy this podcast, consider buying me a coffee: https://adamstoner.com/support I've had lots of deliveries this month including a RODE NT–USB microphone (I'm recording my podcast on it), beautiful coffee from Allpress, and a leather jacket that makes it look like I'm having a quarter-life-crisis courtesy of Allsaints. I've also replenished some of my favourites including perfumes Tacit and Marrakech Intense from Aesop, and Thread's 20% off sale led me to buy a second pair of Grenson sneakers; my current pair have served me for almost two-and-a-half years (and still have a long time to go) but I couldn't say no to a £40 discount… In terms of food (eating tonnes of Mini Eggs doesn't count), Alvin Zhou's YouTube channel is filled with recipes that take an insane amount of time to prepare, from six-hour cheeseburgers to 100-hour brownies. I made the latter earlier this month and the wait was definitely worth it. I've also trialed Pasta Evangelists recently, the subscription model that delivers fresh pasta to your door. The Carbonara of Dreams certainly lives up to its name so keep checking their weekly menu and pick up a portion (or six – they freeze) when you get the chance. These chicken shashlik burritos with mango yoghurt are to die for – they remind me of the street-food stands down London's Leather Lane, around the corner from our pre-pandemic office. As well as foodie YouTube channels, I've also been watching a few other things. WandaVision took an unexpected turn right after I sent my last update and news that LOST, Prison Break and a bunch more shows were coming to Disney+ was also welcome, even if I do already own all four seasons of Ugly Betty on Apple TV+. I've been watching that this month. The waitlist for Apple's HomePod Mini is down to just three-days instead of its pre-Christmas three-months. It's a little dumber than Amazon's smartspeaker offering but as someone very invested in the Apple ecosystem, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. The ability to handoff between phone and speaker just by bringing one closer to the other is really nice. A new speaker means I've been using it to listen to lots more things including Femi and Made Kuti's new Afrobeat double album, Legacy+ and less than a year after her debut solo album, Paramore's Hayley Williams has another collection of 14 songs titled Flowers for Vases / Descansos. As Arielle Gordon writes for Pitchfork: If Petals for Armor [her first solo record] danced on the graves of her failed romances, Flowers for Vases revisits their tombstones with a mournful glance at what had been. As for podcasts, I'm not sure Luminary would appreciate the way I game their subscription model, which is to take out a single month subscription, binge-listen to their paywalled podcasts, and then cancel. I've been listening to episodes of Russell Brand's Under The Skin that have been released since the last time I abused their payment model. In the non-paywalled world (let's call it open podcasting), Davina McCall's podcast Making The Cut is similar to these updates as is Noah Kalina and Adam Lisagor's All Consuming, and friend Bex Lindsay's launched her own podcast all about familiar but niche feelings called Getting Emotional. I sat in on the first episode with photographer Rankin. Listen wherever you get your podcasts. I've swapped my email provider to HEY after getting a pre-launch invite to ‘HEY for Work'. I wrote a review of it that you can read at adamstoner.com/hey. I'm finding it really valuable. Screening senders before they reach your inbox has been a delight, newsletters are displayed in what is essentially a newsfeed, and receipts and transactions automatically go to the Paper Trail. Give me a reason to enjoy it more: me@adamstoner.com. I binge-brought a load of books recently. I'm digging through the poetry of Indian-Canadian Rupi Kaur – home body is my favourite collection and also the most recent – and have LikeWar: The Weaponization of Social Media and Trick Mirror: Reflections on Self-Delusion queued up. Cal Newport, author of Digital Minimalism has a new book, A World Without Email, coming out next month… Maybe he needs to try HEY? In the past I've been the sort of person to fall in love with an item and then buy multiples or buy it in lots of different colours. I did that earlier this month with the New Elder Henley Shirt from &SONS, who I believe are Cheltenham based. Their beanies are also very nice and have been covering up lockdown hair that I can only describe as reminiscent of Chris Martin circa Viva La Vida. Oh, and in my last update I said I'd send these to coincide with full moons. For clarification, moonflowers don't count. The full moon is happening right now – 27 February, 8:17am UTC – it's called a Snow Moon, which is pretty apt given the weather early on this month. As for why there's a full moon at 8 o'clock in the morning, Royal Museums Greenwhich handily explain: the time refers to the exact moment when the Sun and Moon are aligned on opposite sides of the Earth. This moment is known as the ‘syzygy' of the Sun-Earth-Moon system, and can happen at any time day or night. Now you know.
The River by Noah KalinaNoah Kalina takes beautiful photos of beds, rivers, old factories, Zuckerbergs, motel rooms, this tree, chickens, bagels and many other interesting things. His wonderful eye and talent shine through in whatever big or small project he is doing. I love his photography, but it’s his newsletter that I find the most fun. Every edition delights me with his quirky adventures and wit. If someone asked me to describe Noah Kalina’s newsletter the words might not come to me very easily. It’s sort of about photography, his life upstate, with plenty of random other things mixed in. He has an unconventional approach and an ability to make the mundane (like upstate deli coffee or DIY quarter car washes) interesting. In a sea of newsletters it stands out for its lightheartedness and ability to amuse its readers. If it were a physical thing it would be one of those beautiful little surprise gifts wrapped in ribbon that you don’t know what’s inside until you open it. Noah also has a podcast with Adam Lisagor called All Consuming where they order all of the bland DTC things that are pushed on Instagram and review them. It’s a fun listen and the whole production is pretty down to the website design. Noah is probably best known for his project Everyday where he took a photo of himself for exactly 20 years. At one point he made it into a video and it went viral. He was doing that before selfies were a thing and the fact that he could keep it going over two decades is incredible. Especially considering I can’t keep a journal for longer that two weeks. Noah has a habit of doing habitual things and I like that about him. I hope you enjoy our conversation. The ACL Podcast is more of an add-on to the newsletter than a full fledged podcast. You can listen in Spotify or on Apple Podcasts directly if you prefer that to Substack. If you enjoy this edition, please consider subscribing and sending to a friend who you think would like this. I appreciate your support. Thanks to Al James for lending me his music. Adam Lisagor returns to the show. Topics include the cinematic and presentation style of Apple’s WWDC keynote, some post-production details on The Talk Show’s WWDC episode, the tribulations of producing professional videos during COVID-19, and the new sounds of MacOS 11 Big Sur.
Adam Lisagor is the founder and a director at my favourite video agency, Sandwich. We talk filmmaking, marketing and tech. Watch the video (https://youtu.be/icifM4o3PPI) Special Guest: Adam Lisagor.
Sandwich's commercials and video spots are typically funny, bold, and colorful. Adam Lisagor started the company ten years ago, directing and acting in many of the ads to save money. The first professional DP Adam hired was his college friend, Rachel Morrison. Another frequent cinematographer for Sandwich commercials is Charles Papert, the DP behind Key and Peele.
Some time in six or so years since I last sat down with Adam Lisagor, something strange happened. He became a nationally broadcast product spokesperson. It wasn’t the career trajectory any of us were expecting, but here we are. Over the years, the video producer had begun to appear on camera during his signature well produced startup ads. But it was TrueCar that made him a in inescapable presence during nationally televised commercial breaks. For those who’d come to know him as Lonely Sandwich on Twitter and through (relatively) small but loyal online offerings like You Look Nice Today, it was odd watching Lisagor become a kind of peer to a Flo from Progressive or the “Can You Hear My Now” guy. A lot, too, has changed with his production house, Sandwich Video, which has grown to include brands like Starbucks alongside Series A startups. Lisagor joins us from his Los Angeles offices to discuss the journey and newfound focus on music video pet projects.
One day a film student from NYU changed advertising forever. In a few short months Adam became the man who did it all - he was producing, casting, directing and starring in for the ads of the most recognizable names in tech. Square, Airbnb, Airtable, TrueCar, Slack, Webflow, Groupon ... the list goes on forever. The story of Sandwich video and how to run a successful business and have a family too, it is all in this episode of Rad Dad.
Adam Lisagor directs commercials for the internet and TV. We talked about life before the internet, when weed takes you to a dark place, and discovering CBD.

You don't want to miss this episode! Renowned Silicon Valley video producer, Adam Lisagor (http://www.subliminallycorrect.com/guests/adamlisagor) joins us this week for a truly special episode all about his new project called Discourse (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDwCSbVXejM). After the 2016 election, Adam sought a way to bring our divided country together two people at a time. By sitting down members of opposite ends of the political spectrum face-to-face, heart-to-heart with no motive other than to gain a deeper understanding of the other's values, Adam explored what it means to disagree but still connect. What does it say about our ability to have meaningful dialogues about what's important and what's at stake? Is it possible to reach consensus among social groups who have learned to alienate the other? How do we react emotionally when we're confronted with a viewpoint so different from our own that we feel shame about our beliefs? Join us as we explore all of these through the lense of Discourse (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDwCSbVXejM) on this episode of Subliminally Correct! Special guest and longtime friend Adam Lisagor returns to the show. I don’t know anyone who’s more excited about Apple Watch than Adam, except, maybe, my son. It’s easy to lose sight of the fact that Apple just released a brand-new thing, and they don’t do that very often. This episode, we just had fun. Some keen observations about the future of the platform, too.

Adam Lisagor didn't set out to be the face of app advertising, but his acting and directing style mesh perfectly with the zeitgeist. It's a bit of irony without the snark. It's charming, straightforward, quiet, and informative. You've almost certainly seen his work repeatedly, and once you follow this link to Sandwich Video and watch some of his studio's work, you'll be able to recognize his work from now on. From his first video to promote an app he was co-developing to the massive amount of work done since, Adam has defined a style that others now aspire to. But this wasn't a plan. We'll talk about how he got here. (Adam is on Twitter and App.net.)
