Interview by Kris PetersUS metal outfit Fire From The Gods consolidated their growing stature in October 2022 with the release of their third album, Soul Revolution.Featuring the singles SOS, Thousand Lifetimes, World So Cold and Soul Revolution, the album quickly became a fan favourite and propelled the band into a fresh legion of fans and supporters.Fans quickly demanded more, so Fire From The Gods have provided with Soul Revolution Deluxe - The Collabs, an extension of the original album featuring the tracks found on the first recording, plus four of the songs re-recorded with collaborations from Yung Mosh, Nate Vickers, Corey Glover and Jayden Panesso as well as a cover of Guerilla Radio by Rage Against The Machine. It portrays the four reworked songs in a different light with the use of guest artists and showcases a different musical side of the band.Vocalist AJ Channer joined HEAVY to dive deeper into the new album which will be released on June 14, starting with if he still feels the same excitement releasing a deluxe version of an album."You know what, I'm happy about this one because as I have told everyone it's about the family with this one," he explained. "It's about the homies and some really solid, close individuals for Fire From The Gods, so I'm really excited about this one. I am excited about the release. Typically, Fire From The Gods will release a record, then we'll do some reimagined version of it. We've done it since our first record, Narrative, and people are really excited about hearing the different version of the solo or a different take or reimagining of the record. But with this one, it's collabs. It's people that specifically are close to our hearts as brothers, as bands, as musicians. We hand-picked those that we wanted for this. I didn't wanna blow it up and get a massive name on it and spend a tonne of money going after Jonathan Davis or some big name to try and boost sales or anything. We really wanted to do it as some homies that we wanted to show love and some people that we know really respect our band and respect what we've got going on."In the full interview, AJ talks more about how fans embraced the original album version, how he measures success in the modern age, runs through each of the collaborations individually and offers more about the songs and why each person was asked to collaborate on it, the Rage Against The Machine cover and why it was chosen, the selection process for which songs appeared on the Deluxe version, touring plans and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Fire From The Gods have never been backward in coming forward, with their music not only providing a source of entertainment, but also a running commentary on the world we live in.That has been stepped up a notch with the band's new album Soul Revolution, which is due out on October 28.The title pretty much says it all, with Fire From The Gods inciting a revolution through the power of music and one which sees the band openly exploring vocalist AJ Channer mantra of All Power To All People.HEAVY caught up with AJ earlier today for an insightful chat into the album and the general world views of a man who pours his soul into his music and his music into his beliefs."It was a journey, bro," he began, "because it started right in the back end of COVID when things were starting to change a little bit for us in Texas. Things were starting to open up, but we also had gone through this really catastrophic winter down here. We had this week and a half of crazy, crazy weather that nearly... it changed a lot. Texas is a super, robust, oil, everything's bigger in Texas type place, and then a little bit of freezing temperatures and some snow and the whole state was reduced to almost third world conditions so shit was crazy. And then coming out of that my wife, my kids and I - and we'd just had a new born - so we had a two, three week old baby and we were having to live in a hotel for a week. It was crazy! And then, coming off that, I sent them to Tennessee because things hadn't changed here. Power wasn't back and we didn't know how that was going to be so they left and went to Tennessee and I went to Houston to start demoing. Not only was I not living in my house for a week and things had gone crazy weather wise in Texas, it was also 'by the way, let's start demoing'. It was wild. It started with that and then the world started opening up and we were fighting to get some tours back. We were lucky enough to get on the road with Korn, who we adore, so it was all in the backdrop of that but we were still doing zoom sessions for writing. I love that you and I can be on zoom right now rapping about music, but I don't wanna write fucken music over the computer (laughs). I wanna be in the booth in the room. SThere was a lot of that. It was crazy, bro. It was crazy."In the full interview, AJ talks more about the songs on Soul Revolution, what Fire From The Gods were going for musically, the themes n the album and how they relate to modern society, how he is settling in to the band after three albums, his early days as vocalist and how the band encouraged him, touring plans and more.

Our society still has much to achieve when it comes to eradicating institutional racism... "You have to be professional to be able to do a good job for your clients. It's no good to my client if I am unable to do a good job because I'm so vexed, I've taken my off the ball. That's not to say I, I can't be vexed. - Terence Channer. (Want to read a full written for reading transcript version of this episode? Download it here.) Who is Terence Channer? Terence is a lawyer who specialises in actions against the police. He's a senior solicitor at Scott-Moncrieff & Associates. He's also a columnist for the newspaper "The Voice". Terence's stories around police stop and search. It seems that there's still a lot of work to do to eradicate racism within the British police force. Terence has first hand experience through his clients of some of the problematic powers they're in possession of when it comes to individuals on the street. Clearly, the world as a whole was massively impacted by cases like the George Floyd incident in America. Yet, there are echoes of that same racist energy in the UK, and Terence is very intentional with his drive to shine a light on them. In this episode of the Everyday Leadership podcast, Terence shares some of these stories, and explains how he came to grow into his impactful role in bridging the gap between the police and the individuals he vows to protect. And he doesn't hold back when it comes to holding the problematic police force to account on this still very troubling issue of some elements of the British police and their attitudes to stop and search. The necessity and relevance of art is a conversation needed today given that we live in tumultuous times. And if we are going to have this conversation, Lisa Channer is a voice that must be heard. She is a director, producer, dancer, performer, educator, wife and mother. She's created new work around the world even in Russia using hidden Russian texts that didn't see the light of day until after the fall of the Soviet Union. She has wrestled with the whiteness and maleness of the Western Theater's Canon that includes luminaries like Shakespeare, Moliere and O'Neill to find her voice within the work. Her approach to art is Jazz-esque – learn the notes so you can blow them up, make them your own. Hers is a voice, a life and a career that she's built on her own terms. Ask her what the world needs now, and she finds her answers in the molecules of the theater: Compassion, Empathy, Collaboration and Non-Binary Thoughts. For Lisa, art lives in the smudges between boundaries, and in a time when the boundaries are tested daily, it's the artists who will hold us together. Theatre Novi MostPatrick's WebsitePatrick's IGAt the Podium on IGPatrick on LinkedInPatrick on Facebook

How do you move beyond the idea of belonging to take meaningful action that builds and repairs cultures and communities in a way that actually roots them in belonging? How do we build a future for young people that fits them versus asking them to fit the future? These questions merely scratch the surface of a conversation hosts Lisa Lambert and Rick Kitagawa recently had with their friend and colleague Rebecca Channer. Rebecca is the Founder and Team Lead at CodeBreakers, a vibrant online space for young people (ages 13-23) who have been historically underrepresented and/or racially minoritized within their communities, schools and workplaces. We cover a lot of ground in this conversation, including how it's okay to be nervous and make mistakes when talking about topics like race, diversity, inclusion, and belonging; the importance of representation in trust-building; the reason why many organizations don't focus on culture; diversity, inclusion, and belonging as actions versus ideas and the faulty assumption behind this; and much more. If you've ever struggled to feel belonging or are interested in building a culture of belonging anchored in actions versus ideas, then you won't want to miss this episode of the In Trust podcast. Heavy music deserves a heavier message. That’s what Fire From The Gods deliver on their Rise Records debut, Narrative. Speaking from a platform cast in heavy metal power, hip-hop consciousness, and even a little reggae spirit, the Austin, TX quintet—AJ Channer [vocals], Jameson Teat [guitar], Drew Walker [guitar], Bonner Baker [bass], and Richard Wicander [drums]—urge for change through conveying a story that’s both personal and universal. That story stems directly from AJ’s life. Born in the Bronx to a single mother of Jamaican descent, he spent his childhood moving between London, New York City, Los Angeles, Norfolk, and even Ghana where he attended middle school. Drawing from this diverse experience, he speaks with unmitigated honesty about the state of the world.

This week's Leadership Tidbits with Coach Tee Wilson features special guest, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Tiffany Channer. As a highly accomplished woman in STEM, you can imagine that her resume is extensive, you would be right! Here are some of the major highlights you should know about the powerful Tiffany Channer.Tiffany Channer currently serves as the Technical Supervisor for OneBlood, Inc. at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She honed her skill and knowledge of blood banking at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY, where she completed her 9-year tenure as Blood Bank Educational Lead Medical Technologist III/ Safety Officer. During her undergraduate studies, she was a STEP/CSTEP mentor where she educated students of neighboring urban areas of Medical Laboratory Science.  Soon after graduation Ms. Channer was granted a life altering opportunity of being an American Society for Clinical Pathology / President Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief initiative consultant in Swaziland, Africa. After her experience there she pursued a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and Management and a graduate certification in Global Health. In 2011, Channer was awarded with the Medical Laboratory Scientist of the year Award for the Transfusion Medicine Department at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She has taught rotating Clinical Laboratory Science students and Doctoral Fellows theory and technical aspects of transfusion medicine. Tiffany also recruits for the Clinical Laboratory Science profession as a whole. As the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Chair-Elect for the Council of Laboratory Professionals, Patient Champion Advisory Board Member, and Career Ambassador she educates, informs, and inspires students, seasoned scientists, and individuals within the STEM field about ASCP and its importance to the field. Channer lives by a Nelson Mandela quote. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Her love of education permeates through her acts of service and she hopes to inspire and encourage future scientists to enter a field that is unfamiliar to many. While Ms. Channer was on the show, she took us through her often fast paced lifestyle of what it is like to work in transfusion medicine as well as simply working in the business of saving lives. She shared with us that life is so much bigger than working on the bench. She explained that can be used as a metaphor for a lot of things, but from the medical lab perspective she stated, “there's more to what we do than working on the bench, take time to know your team and for them to know you. As good leaders, it's very important for us to be accessible.” Overall here are some more leadership tidbits from Ms. Channer: Having a mentor is essential to your life and your progress, you need to have that person who is a champion for you, who's rooting for you, and who's exposing you to things that you didn't even know was possible. Lastly, nothing changes without policy and that's not limited to the lab, this applies to the context of the world.
