The LSU Tigers defeated SEC West foe Arkansas Razorbacks 34-31 Saturday night in Baton Rouge after a walk-off field goal and second half offensive fireworks led the purple and gold to victory. Which Tigers stood out the most in LSU's second conference win of the season so far? Head coach Brian Kelly gave wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. the game ball after his five reception, 133 yard, and two touchdown performance. Malik Nabers also had a monster day with 8 receptions for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns of his own. Those two receivers accounted for all four of the Tigers end zone trips on Saturday night. But who gets the Locked On LSU offensive game ball? There is no doubt Nabers and Thomas are quarterback Jayden Daniels' favorite targets and continue to grow their confidence and trust every single week. But there was another offensive player in the purple and gold against Arkansas who maybe didn't have as impressive of a day on the box score but whose impact was felt and necessary in order to get a win against the Hogs. Plus, defensive and special teams game balls. The defense struggled containing Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson with his massive 250-pound frame and the secondary allowed several large gains in the passing game. But one incredibly impressive and vital aspect of the defense Saturday night was the red zone defense. Three of Arkansas' trips to the red zone ended in field goals because of LSU's defensive line. When Oklahoma and Texas join the SEC in 2024, a few rivalries will be restored, but a handful of others will reduce to being played once every two years. The SEC has not approved a scheduling model for its expanded alignment, but there's momentum to move to a nine-game conference schedule. One popular model discussed is a 3-6 schedule model, in which team would be assigned three rivals to play annually. On today's episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and Christina Long play matchmaker and debate the three rivals for each team. Some choices are obvious: The Iron Bowl, Egg Bowl, Red River aren't going anywhere. But making the puzzle pieces fit gets tricky and leads to the sacrifice of some second- or third-tier rivalries, as well as a few odd pairings. How does a Florida-Oklahoma rivalry sound? Long takes exception to a few of Toppmeyer's rivalry alignments. In particular, why is he angling to chop Kentucky-Tennessee and Arkansas-LSU? The LSU Tigers defeated the UAB Blazers 41-10 in Tiger Stadium Saturday night in the Tigers' final home game of the regular season. After an abysmal showing for the LSU Tigers offense in Fayetteville last week, Jayden Daniels and the rest of the offense bounced back for a massive 565 yard performance on Senior Night. The only negative takeaway from the offense on Saturday in Tiger Stadium was the news that running back Armoni Goodwin will be out for the remainder of the season. The team's third-leading rusher has been a go-to for big chunk plays for the Tigers throughout the season. The offense will now lean on Noah Cain, who had a HUGE day against the Blazers with three touchdowns on the night, Josh Williams, and John Emery in the run game. However, John Emery showed on Saturday that he may be more of a liability to LSU than he is helpful. John Emery fumbled twice on Saturday. While UAB wasn't able to capitalize on either of those possessions, Emery's ball security is a concern moving forward when LSU plays more competitive opponents. Overall, LSU had a solid day on both sides of the ball and gained some much needed momentum and confidence going into the regular season finale at College Station as the Tigers face the struggling Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday. ESPN Arkansas radio host John Nabors previews this week's Arkansas-LSU football game and talks about how bad things have gotten up in Fayetteville.
Penn State knocked off #2 Ohio State with a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown, so naturally we take 10 minutes to get to that game and talk about LSU-Ole Miss first because we're terrible at identifying meaningfulness. Other points of digression include: - Whether Todd Graham has what it takes to use "chickenshit" in conversation - How to defeat Jim Harbaugh by preying on his crippling addiction to competition - Bill Snyder is not a nice person, don't fall for his kind grandpa thing - Kirk Ferentz does the job you paid him to do - Our government mandated statement of fealty to Alabama - A very rude trip through the Arkansas-LSU box score
