Consistently named one of the best electronic labels in the world, Perlon is a powerhouse of deep and unique house and minimal techno. All the greats have appeared on this label from Villalobos to Dygas, to Moonear and Baby Ford; it truly is an honor to own all these records. This is my 3rd all-vinyl mix for the show, and something I would expect more of as I head into my third year at DT Radio. Thank you for tuning in. Enjoy! ⚡️Like the Show? FINGERS, MAURICE, LIL LOUIS, FAST EDDIE, TYREE, ADONIS, FARLEY JACKMASTER FUNK, MIKE DUNN, ALASKA Y DINARAMA, ORBITAL, 808 STATE, A GUY CALLED GERALD, JOLLY ROGER, D MOB, HUMANOID, BABY FORD, HARDFLOOR, PLASTIKMAN y JOSH WINK.

This is techno funk of the highest order from the UK don. Mark Broom has been making classic techno cuts since the early 90's and his work serves as inspiration to many today. Through his work under Mark Broom and several seminal alias's including Rue East, Lighter Thief, Killa Productions, The Fear Ratio and more, the London techno don remains one of the most authoritative figures in UK techno. The record making machine has landed 12 inches on world renowned labels such as Blueprint Records, Rekids, M-plant, EPM, Cocoon, Bpitch Control, Warp Records and the legendary Ifach with Baby Ford. Broom has also collaborated with techno giants Robert Hood, Floorplan, Alan Fitzpatrick, Gary Beck and more. His track ‘Spiked' is a funk-laden groove that is simply irroestiable in it's simple yet funky nature. Broom is in a league of his own when it comes to wonky techno grooves, as unruly leads flutter atop of the jacking groove. This is vintage broom with a modern twist, everything you would come to expect from the king of jacking techno and so much more.

It is amazing really that it has taken the passage of 25 Avenue Red Podcast episodes before we came to present a DJ/Artist from Germany, especially when we consider it's prominence on the underground music map and the colossal amount of quality music the country emits. And here is installment 26 from Cologne-based DJ, producer, label boss and radio show host Andy Vaz. Originally from Düsseldorf where Kraftwerk originated, Andy is the man behind Background Records, a label that since it's incarnation in 1998 became a key conduit of the true Minimal Techno sound with a release catalogue that is steeped in stripped down, dark and undeniably hypnotic techno - often with some more experimental materials in the mix too. Artists such as: Akufen, Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Todd Sines, Terrence Dixon, Jeff Milligan, Submania, Rhythm Maker, Kit Clayton, Ectomorph, Deadbeat, Baby Ford, Stewart Walker, Donnacha Costello, Geoff White, Smyglyssna, Portable, Frivolous and many others have graced the Background stage. But Andy Vaz was not one to build his career in electronic music in the bounds of a genre-purist, even though Background was in itself a very clinical and defined brand of techno minimalism. Having always had an equal appreciation for house music too, Andy decided to start a second label called A Touch Of Class in 1999 for the housier shades of music that he wanted to purvey, with the first release an absolute classic - Rick Wade's "Deep Threats EP". In march 2007 Andy launched another label called YORE, which is his ongoing label project to focus on the authentic old-skool Detroit & Chicago House sound with original artists such as Chez Damier, Terrence Dixon, Todd Sines, Alton Miller and again Rick Wade featured on this growing platform. Andy is also very versatile as an artist, having released minimal techno works, obscure oddities, straight-up house music, and has released some conceptual works too in the form of his Soundvariation series (recommended!). Andy is actually the man behind the latest YORE record too with his new EP "It's OK" (YRE-031), the lead track from which opens this mix. The release is due soon, but for now you can hear the preview for the whole EP here: https://soundcloud.com/andyvaz/andy-vaz-its-ok-yre-031-12-preview. We decided to invite Andy to the Avenue Red Podcast after hearing him play on his weekly Saturday night House Of Hope radio shows on Motion FM, as we realised what a truly entertaining, varied and colourful selector he is. In this mix Andy has dug through his record collection to pull out a very groovy and uplifting set of NY House, Garage, Chicago Acid and also some nice, deep Disco-tinged House music with a kind of party feel to it. But the set has real depth, showing Andy to be a DJ with a vastness of musical knowledge that, coupled with his proven passion and experience, means he really knows how to "work it" on the decks! Enjoy the mix everyone! "Taking you back like it's '95!" 16 isn't a particularly special number. But this is a particularly special installment! From Reykjavik, Iceland - the world's northernmost capital dubbed as "The Worlds Biggest Little Metropolis" as the city holds two thirds of the Icelandic population - we present Exos (real name Arnviður Snorrason), a unique and creative techno innovator who has become well-known for his uber-quality releases on respected labels such as Force Inc. Music Works, Mosaic, Symbolism and also Thule Records, a cult-status Icelandic techno label that has been recently reincarnated under a new name, Strobelight Network. This 75-minute vinyl mix is the product of a great deal of care and attention. As per usual we asked Exos to dig deep in his collection to come up with something truly special and what we have here is a treasure trove of techno gems and lost oddities that are deep, dubby, blissful, melodic, bold, strange and at times completely "far-out" (Iceland style!). We are pleased that he has paid some homage to the music that has originated from his Icelandic peers as we have records here from his friends Yagya (Aðalsteinn Guðmundsson), Thor (Þórhallur Skúlason) and also his father who is known as Octal (Snorri Arnarson). As we were digging through the submitted tracklist to normalise it to our usual format and resolution of detail, we realised that the collective value of all these records is in the region of £1000+ on current discogs prices. But musically, end-product-wise, this mix is much greater than the sum of it's parts thanks to the wizardry of Exos on the decks and we are glad to deliver something priceless that you can download for free. These incredible records... they are in good hands already. "In my life, I am experiencing a touch of timeless awareness. The time is speeding up, I am confusing time and there is something happening to the "Now" as I understand it. That is something that I try to explain in this mix. Music from different directions from here to there. It's also a Spring-time soundtrack for my favorite time of the year when April, May and June hits their magic with sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. The highlight in my life is my unborn nephew who will come to light in 2 weeks. Happy summer to all of you." The unluckily numbered Avenue Red Podcast is a heads-down session of modernist Tech House & Techno from Grimsby-based Connor Hall AKA Conrad. Having started DJ'ing 3 years ago, Connor has become heavily engrossed in his musical passion and alongside his vinyl-junkie-ism he has made strides in the world of producing music too, having put out a debut release on Bosnia & Herzegovina-based @gentlemen-lounge-records, and he has another due out soon on Kadinsky Records too. He plays at various gigs around his hometown alongside Carl Hardy and has played at numerous spots around Sheffield and is steadily working up his profile as a DJ. He sent us this mix over and we instantly took a shine to his steady workflow through sequences of groove-laden trippy music that strongly leans towards the Fear Of Flying label sound - to us, this can only be a very good thing! Check out this heady mix from a name to watch out for! @gallopandsound ===== 01 Dilated Pupils - Take Care // Fear Of Flying (2014) 02 Matthew Burton & Kate Rathod - 8 Minute Abs // Fear Of Flying (2014) 03 The White Man & The Arab - Acid // The White Man & The Arab (2013) 04 Ben Buitendijk - Promised Land // Mosaic (2013) 05 Mandar - Naughty Mandar // Lazare Hoche (2014) 06 Matthew Burton & Kate Rathod - Raw Moves // Fear Of Flying (2014) 07 BFZ (aka Baby Ford & Zip) - Uff (Original) // Trelik (2013) 08 Mari Kvien Brunvoll – Everywhere You Go (Villalobos' Amnesia Rehabilitation Dub) // Sei Es Drum (2013) 09 Bobby O'Donnell - Odds & Evens // Catch (2014) 10 Nick Lawson - The View From Baskerville (2013) // Boe (2014) 11 BLM - Down To The Shake // Saints & Sonnets (2014) 12 The White Man & The Arab - Thinking Of You // The White Man & The Arab (2013) 13 Nimbus Quartet - Your House Is Yours Parts II & III Simultaneously // Lazare Hoche (2013)
More house music goodness from the freakin podcast series. This edition comes straight out of Romania from the excellent Gemini Brothers. Here's a little interview with the guys: What is the best thing about Romania? What is the scene like there? TGB: We believe that Romania still has a lot to learn; from how to manage itself as a country - politically speaking, to music/ fashion/ art culture! We have an incredible country: lovely and generous people which is the great ingredient to comfortably living here, fantastic fairy tales places like Black Sea seaside or Carpathians mountains, folk art, lovely and fresh food (the vegetables are still organic and the sheep or goat cheese - telemea is incredible)! Unfortunately, the music scene is quite small, if we refer to the entire Romania! But there is our capital Bucharest, which is in top with clubs and the clubbing scene, but Cluj or Timisoara are coming back with great clubs and the artists invited to play and perform! The bars and clubs are quite pretentious and commercial seems to gain a lot of attention, probably like everywhere, where people are going out only to show their clothes and latest cars or iphones! Still the underground clubs comes with strong and heavy competition with big names from the scene and the crowed is warm and starts to be very knowledgeable in this house music culture! Do you still live in Romania? Can your country be “heard” in your music? TGB: Yes, we are based near Bucharest, just moved out from the big city madness at the country side, which is better for inspiration and healthy. No cars, no sirens, no sidewalks, just cats and dogs around! We don't really use too many things from the Romanian folk traditional music; our inspiration is not quite Romanian. The Romanian folk music is multicultural, still popular and divided into regions, and the main and common instruments are violins, taragots (which was replaced by the saxophone lately), pipes, and accordions. There are as well big influences from the traditional music from tartars, Turkish and Bulgarian style and characterized by Balkans and Turkish rhythms. Maybe a little bit our drum parts have some small influence, but really small. What would you say were the biggest influences on your music? TGB: We listen a lot of music; from classical music (we have a rule by Monday to be the non-electronic music day), '70s psychedelic rock to ambient or hard techno. We're quite influenced these days by the acid techno from the 90s, some old Josh Wink or Baby Ford, but as well loving the 80s disco era. Nevertheless, some time ago we've produced some nu-funk releases and remixes, so James Brown, Johnny Hammond or Gil Scott Heron soul tracks were never missed in our iPod track-list. Lately we discovered more and more obscure artists and bands who were, in their side, been influenced by the Nordic disco from Todd Terje or Prins Thomas, as well Sir Andrew Weatherall or Ivan Smagghe have big places in our minds and souls for inspiration. What are your favourite tracks of the moment? TGB: (Ionut) - Gameboyz - Foco / (Razvan) - Pink Floyd - Echoes You have only been releasing your own productions relatively recently, how long were you djing before this? TGB: Well, we've started some time ago, in 2001, in one of the hottest places from Bucharest in those days, probably the best underground place ever - Web Club, which was owned by a Greek guy and friend of us. Here most of the old-skool DJs formed and performed. You could find here parties from hip-hop to techno or d’n’b. Lovely place and full of positive, inspirational, creative home! We used to play here only on vinyl, even if we didn't know at that time to sync too much, but was such a great fun and beautiful people! The production side came in time, some part came from frustrations that without productions nobody knows you, some came from ambition to play and produce for outside Romania and the possibility to be noticed exactly by the guys/artists you play in your sets. And is tested, we've started to be charted by the guys we love, etc. If we are looking back we're kind of sad that we didn't start to produce earlier, probably we’d be in a different place now, but is never too late to start doing your dream! What have been your favourite gigs and where would be your dream gig in the future? TGB: We had incredible gigs and experiences in London's Ministry of Sound and Electric Brixton or played in really great places like Budva - Montenegro and Dubrovnik - Croatia. We had as well really nice gigs in Romania. Cluj-Napoca has a perfect crowd, you can jump from disco to acid to house or electro and the people is jumping around! Is everything about the crowd, the warm people and how the dance-floor reacts, and there are a lot of places where the crowd is warm and sensational, and you have to believe me, all the big DJs who came in Romania said "we have to get back soon"! Our dream is to play in Ibiza and we did a small pact between us, never even visit the island until we go there to play! Of course another dream is to travel around the globe with music and gigs, love to comeback in US or playing in Australia! As well Asia has a really great scene! Shanghai is quite a target! What made you want to make the move from playing records to making them? Has this become more important than djing? TGB: As I've mentioned before, was all about some small frustration and ambition, but is more than that! You can play the best music, but without doing it is hard to achieve a place in this overfull DJs market. We loved some artists, we used to play them hard and never could stay or even get in contact with them. Of course this was behind our love for music! This is by default I think for every musician or producer. So, in these circumstances, we started first to make some remixes for some soul funk tracks! Believe us, we never been conscience about the artists we edit or remix, we loved the tracks as it was. They liked it and then we've started to do our own tracks and the feedback was unbelievable, those big guys who were our targets now start charting, playing, and supporting us! Now we are totally into productions, keen on finding our own sound, buying analogue equipment, but never let DJing on the second place! We love to play; we love clubs, turntables, art of mixing! We play quite often lately and what is great for us is that we used to travel outside Romania! How would you describe your productions? We think that our own sound is still in the development period, still many things to try, learn, experienced. Of course we have our funky background, and if you listen most of our tracks have guitars, funky bassline, and never thought to our tracks to have minimal lines. But lately we are very attracted by acid, deeper bass, wired atmosphere and crazy psychedelic disco. Probably in this line most of our future productions will sound! But never say never to test and do many other things. We have a project with some deep vocal house influences, so, never say never! Your Podcast for us is full of rolling electronics and dark acidic grooves. Is this typical of the sort of set you like to play out in a club? TGB: Well, depends a lot about the gig, club, atmosphere, crowd, warm-up, how many hours we play... We really made a podcast with things we like these days and we're influenced by, but our sets could be groovier or house, discoes or even techno. Is everything about reading the crowd! Of course, this is a podcast, but in club we never make a track-list before, we learned that until 2001 and still learning. What can we look forward to over the next year from Gemini Bros? Any big gigs or productions on the horizon? TGB: Good question, if 2013 was and still is a busy year from all the perspectives, production vs. gigs, 2014 will be for sure the cherry on the top. For this year is still planned to launch another two releases, one on vinyl and the other one digital for London's based label ISM Records and Home Breakin Records from Canada. As well we were involved in some remixes on vinyl and digital for some good names like Ursula 1000's new disco project Quentin Quatro, YamWho feat. Robert Owens and the list continue but we'd like to keep all the info until things are sorted and ready to get out! Gigs? Probably London and Croatia again, UK and Italy for the first time and the list goes on. The facebook page will be updated with all our gigs periodically, so give us a follow or a like! He began experimenting at an early age with sound. “I remember at a very young age trying to get lower notes out of our piano and making sounds with the filter on our little Casio keyboard. Even when I was young most of my time was spent in front of computers. I've always liked new technology and that used as an extension of ones inner creativity and expression, in the world of music, is a very powerful and moving thing to me. ” Growing up around many horror and sci-fi films. He had always felt at home with anything dark and was always drawn toward synthetic sound. He grew up in Muskegon, MI and at the time with no internet he had little influence. It wasn't until the mid 90's were he was finally introduced to techno music. In the late 90's he made regular trips to Grand Rapids, buying and mixing records from artists like Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Henrik B , and Chris Liebing. Around the year 2003 he was introduced to minimal. He purchased Jabberjaw – Girlfriend and was hooked. “I was instantly captivated, buying stuff from Dimbiman, Pantytec, Plastikman, Baby Ford and later Gaiser. I loved mixing this music and it just seemed like the next obvious step”. In 2007 his brother passed away. “I made a promise right then and there to dedicate my life to music. My brothers life's pursuit was music and in essence I feel I am picking up the torch. Hopefully I will be able to run with it and keep it lit. ” Jeremy moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 2008 and in early 2009 he started the project Memnok. In April of 2010, he along with his friend Duky formed the label Fourth Kind. Fourth Kind has had a string of successful releases covering many styles and genres of music. Presently he is working on launching his new label “HEX”. “I am hoping in time this will become more than just a label. I have a specific sound in mind. A sound that has developed over the years from doing Dj sets. I find quite a few Artists that collectively make up this sound and I hope to bring more of them to Hex in the future". ___________________________________________________________________________ ★ PLAYLIST : 1. The Terrace Podcast Episode 194 presents an outstanding DJ set by one of the greatest Techno Icons; Ricardo Villalobos Ricardo Villalobos is a Chilean electronic music producer and DJ. He is well-known for his work in the minimal techno and microhouse genres. Villalobos was born in the capital of Chile, Santiago, in the year 1970. However, at the age of three he moved to Germany with his family after General Augusto Pinochet overthrew the socialist government of Salvador Allende in 1973. When Ricardo was around 10 or 11 he started to play conga and bongos. Though he loved music, he could never see himself as a musician. In the late eighties he began to make electronic music. From a very young age he has been a a big fan of Depeche Mode, even following their tours around Europe to listen to them. Villalobos takes much of his inspiration from Depeche Mode, as well as other artists such as Daniel Miller, Thomas Melchior, Baby Ford, Daniel Bell and Andrew Weatherall. He has also taken inspiration from rhythmic South American music. Villalobos began to play his music at parties while he was studying at university, but this was only for his own enjoyment. He started a label, Placid Flavour, in 1993 but this was unsuccessful. His first record was released on the German Playhouse label in 1994 and he began DJing as a professional in 1998, and is in present times regarded as one of the most important minimal DJs in Europe, alongside other talented chilean djs and producers such as Luciano Nicolet (an occasional collaborator) and Dandy Jack. This was an Exclusive Mix for 2702 Re-aired in "The Terrace Podcast Edition" www.theterracepodcast.com

High quality guests aside, under_score's position on the local scene has been firmly cemented by way of core residents Microman (aka one half of Emptyset), Luke Malcher and Jim Petherwick — and Jim has kindly put together this exclusive mix for Spannered, which gives an excellent introduction to the under_score sound.
