What is the common thread that runs through every human culture through the millenia? It's so simple: gathering around a fire, sharing food, sharing stories and singing. A practice of collective sharing that connects and binds us together as sentient beings. Dropping into the modern world, in some places this tradition has been lost, largely in the West. You will find group singing in school/church/professional choirs of course, but not as a regular activity for most people. Not so in India. Chanting is very much alive and well here, it's considered just one of many tools to practice yoga.James Boag, an English yogi, discovered this during his many years living in SE Asia and India and himself developed a love of this tradition. He now hosts kirtans as part of his yoga offering wherever he finds himself in the world. A kirtan is a devotional song in which a group repeats the lines sung by a leader. What has he learned from this part of his yoga practice?Chanting not only connects us to others but to ourselvesChanting has the power to invoke specific energies/intentionsChanting has physiological benefits including reducing stressAnd more. So why does the invitation to chant precipitate shyness and awkwardness? Join us to learn more and discover why we should all be chanting!Find James:website: www.jamesboagyoga.comYouTube: james boag yoga youtube channelInstagram: @jamesboagyoga
I am thrilled to have UK Medium (and my favourite mentor) Dominic Boag back on Spirit School to talk about his new book, The Voice of Spirit: The Boy Next Door with an Incredible Gift. Dominic and I began this episode by reflecting on our experience in person at Spirit School and the magic of being connected by Spirit. Dominic also had an in-person spiritual center for people to gather and learn different modalities in a supportive space. His career now is focused on travelling for demonstrations and teaching, but it was an incredible experience! In this episode, Dominic Boag shares some insights from his book, the Voice of Spirit and his journey as a medium. He talks about the fact that we all have all of the clairs, and that we need to be open to developing the ones spirit works through for us. Dominic shares his highlights from the year from his travels, and what to consider when choosing a mentor or medium. He encourages mediums to create space for spirit without judging what comes through you from spirit. This was a very insightful conversation full of wisdom from Dominic's 17 year career. Dominic will be coming for another in-person retreat at Spirit School again in May! In the meantime, we will be doing another online mediumship workshop: Online Mediumship Development Workshop Join Dominic and I for our Online Mediumship Development Workshop on December 2! This online Spirit School workshop will be focused on expanding in the realm of your private readings! It will be a 4-hour mediumship development class with opportunities to practice techniques shared by these renowned mediums. In this episode, I welcome back my personal mentor and renowned medium, Dominic Boag, for an insightful conversation about his experiences travelling and conducting demonstrations around the world. We discuss various aspects of mediumship, from the thrill of live demonstrations to the profound impact of private readings. Dominic and I also delve into the intricacies of mediumship and the importance of striking a balance between providing evidence and delivering meaningful messages. We discuss the role of the medium in healing the client, and Dominic emphasizes the significance of connecting with Spirit on a deeper level and allowing them to have a voice rather than solely focusing on facts. We also touch upon the upcoming workshop on Evidential Mediumship Simplified at Spirit School in Squamish, British Columbia, where we will be sharing our techniques and helping participants nurture their advancing mediumship abilities. In this episode: Everyone's unique: Dominic highlights the individuality of each medium and the need to embrace and develop one's own style. Striving for realism: Dominic and Danielle stress the importance of being realistic and considering the quality of the information provided during mediumship readings. Evaluating the information: Dominic discusses the different types of information mediums encounter, including generic, emotional, and practical details, and encourages assessing their significance. Who are you working for?: The hosts explore the purpose of mediumship and the importance of understanding if the medium is trying to please themselves or genuinely help the client and Spirit. Letting go of ego: Dominic shares his experience of putting his ego aside and focusing on the essence of mediumship, which is not a treasure hunt for facts but an opportunity to let Spirit have a voice. What is enough?: The hosts invite mediums to reflect on what would be enough for them in a reading and how to not treat it as a fact-finding mission but rather a chance to touch the client's soul. The conversation matters: Dominic emphasizes the value of engaging in a meaningful conversation with Spirit, rather than bombarding the client with endless facts. Evidential mediumship simplified: Dominic introduces his approach to evidential mediumship. The power of simplicity: Dominic shares his techniques for simplifying mediumship, using foundations and processes to enhance the medium's connection with Spirit. Demonstrations: Dominic discusses the fulfillment and joy of connecting with a larger audience in demonstrations and how they can allow for a healing experience among all audience members. Whether you're new to mediumship or a seasoned practitioner, this conversation will inspire and enlighten you on your development journey. The upcoming workshop on Evidential Mediumship Simplified at Spirit School is an opportunity for participants to go deeper with some of the valuable techniques discussed here. Worship Live - 31st July 2022 - Jennifer Boag
On November 19, 1895, eighteen year old Lloyd Montgomery murdered his parents and their neighbor at his home in rural Linn County, Oregon. In Pioneering Death: The Violence of Boyhood in Turn-of-the-Century Oregon (U Washington Press, 2022), Peter Boag, professor of history at Washington State University, tries to explain how this horrific crime came to pass. Boag explains that rural America in the late nineteenth century was in a state of crisis, and rural boyhood in particular was an experience fraught with both symbolism and peril. With an ongoing economic crisis and with violence and death everywhere, young American boys in places like Linn County found themselves with fewer future prospects and more expectations upon their shoulders than ever. The Montgomery murder thus spoke directly to the fears and the hopes that many Americans had for their nation's future, as well as to the inherent violence at the core of the American Western experience. In the second podcast I interview James Boag who is a Sanskrit scholar and a yoga teacher. Drawing on his background in languages and scriptural teachings he brings the practical essence of traditional Indian teachings into the vivid context of our human lives today. He has been teaching since 1993, and teaching yoga since 2004. James runs intensives and online trainings on applied yoga philosophy and mythology around the world. Today we talk about yoga and the whole human being. How can you find that inner yoga, that inner union? We will be talking about how the primal energies of the archetypes manifest in Indian scripture and how we can use this knowledge to better understand ourselves as men. Some of the questions he answers are: - How can we stop, look and listen and bring centred awareness back in our being? - The importance of satsang - connecting with other men - Teachings about the Bhagavad Gita and how Krishna taught Arjuna - How you can learn to align with consciousness - The importance of Raja yoga - the Sovereign/ King energy - How courage helps us to connect to the inner sovereignty For more information about James Boag: http://www.jamesboagyoga.com

In today's episode, I welcome James Boag back on the show. This time around we focused our attention on the events that have been unfolding the past year and the opportunity it’s given us to reclaim our individual sovereignty. James intertwines his yogic wisdom into the subject offering a deeper perspective on the current events, allowing us to see the gifts that have come by taking this extended pause. And as the saying goes ‘the bigger the challenge, the bigger the opportunity is for growth’ we discuss how we are being invited to see this time as an opportunity to become better versions of ourselves. I for one felt nourished by this inspiring conversation and gave me renewed optimism, I hope you get the same from it and for those interested in hearing more from James you can tune into episode 42 of this podcast as well as checking out his website. In Ep29 of Shooting the Breeze we chat with twins Carly and Chris Boag. The Boag sisters have that twin telepathy thing happening finishing each others sentences. Our dynamic duo are probably the only twins that play side by side in the same professional basketball team. In her fourth year playing for Sydney Carly had a big impact for the team in our 2017 Championship year, joining her on court this season is twin sister Chris. They both jumped onto the podcast from the WNBL hub for a fun informal chat. Tune in as we gain a little insight into an unusual season. The opportunity is not lost on our twins, who are enjoying the chance to reconnect after playing oceans apart in the last year. A pretty special experience to hang out and play alongside each other, their exchange on alter ego movie characters is priceless. Get to know Carly and Chris and what makes them tick. Enjoy!

Abstract: Learning and decision making are interactive processes, yet cognitive modelling of error-driven learning and decision making have largely evolved separately. Recently, evidence accumulation models (EAMs) of decision making and reinforcement learning (RL) models of error-driven learning have been combined into joint RL-EAMs that can in principle address these interactions. However, we show that the most commonly used combination, based on the diffusion decision model (DDM) for binary choice, consistently fails to capture crucial aspects of response times observed during reinforcement learning. We propose a new RL-EAM based on an advantage racing diffusion (ARD) framework for choices among two or more options that not only addresses this problem but captures stimulus difficulty, speed-accuracy trade-off, and stimulus-response-mapping reversal effects. The RL-ARD avoids fundamental limitations imposed by the DDM on addressing effects of absolute values of choices, as well as extensions beyond binary choice, and provides a computationally tractable basis for wider applications. Thanks to a plethora of literature and Hollywood films, the American West holds an almost mythic-like place in the popular imagination. Its mere mention conjures images of legendary gunslingers and heroic homesteaders, among many other revered tropes. Lesser known and explored, however, is the American West's queer history and the many individuals who challenged and transgressed society's sexuality and gender binaries on the daily. Dr. Peter Boag joins us this week to discuss his book Re-Dressing America's Frontier Past. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://news.iheart.com/podcast-advertisers
A special episode looking back at a huge week in politics with cascading admissions seeing the sensational downfall of MP Hamish Walker and former National Party President Michelle Boag, and forcing Todd Muller to front up on who else knew. Plus, who’s at fault for the repeated escapes from COVID 19 isolation?
Neale, Brigitte and Kathryn talk about National leader Todd Muller's handling of the Boag leaks, the ACT party's conference and they discuss how Tiwai Point's planned closure adds to the Government's economic concerns. Also, more border breaches.
A political commentator says National's leader lacks political instincts.National health spokesman Michael Woodhouse told leader Todd Muller on Tuesday evening that he was also sent Covid patient data by Michelle Boag.Woodhouse confessed this morning he was sent four unsolicited emails from Boag between June 21 and 25 which contained patient details, but it was not the same information that was sent to disgraced MP Hamish Walker.A party spokeswoman said today Woodhouse told Muller this on Tuesday night. But the next day, Muller was specifically asked by reporters "have you checked with Woodhouse, specifically, whether he received that same information from Boag"."No," replied Muller and a reporter asked "why not?""It's very clear from our perspective there's a conversation that's occurred between Michelle Boag and Hamish Walker. We are confident from what we can see that the issue here relates to Michelle Boag and Hamish Walker."He said it wasn't accurate to say he didn't know whether other MPs in National had access to that information."We are confident from what we can see that the issue here relates to Michelle Boag and Hamish Walker ...You've heard very clearly from the participants that the issue was between Michelle Boag and Hamish Walker."At no point in yesterday's media stand-up did Muller mention that he knew Boag had sent Covid patient information to Woodhouse.Commentator Ben Thomas says the party leader should have been more up-front."Unfortunately probably reflects a lack of character judgement, which are not the sorts of things you want coming into an election."He told The Weekend Collective that National didn't capitalise on Labour's own mistakes - with David Clark's resignation as Health Minister not forgotten.

National MP Michael Woodhouse has confirmed he too received private patient details from former National Party president Michelle Boag.
Clutha-Southland MP Hamish Walker has decided not to run for re-election after it was revealed he leaked the details of Covid-19 patients. Former National Party President Michelle Boag has resigned from her campaign and electorate roles in the Auckland Central seat, held by deputy leader Nikki Kaye. Boag has confessed to leaking the patients' details to Walker, who then leaked them to media. Liam Hehir is a Palmerston North lawyer and conservative political commentator.
The Ministry of Health is refusing to confirm if it supplied the former National Party President Michelle Boag with a daily list of people infected with Covid-19 and their private information. In an explosive 48 hours, Boag confessed to leaking the personal details of 18 people in Covid quarantine to National MP Hamish Walker, who then leaked it to media. Here's RNZ political reporter, Katie Scotcher.
Michelle Boag says she was provided a list of people infected with Covid-19 from the Ministry of Health. The Ministry of Health, in turn, is refusing to confirm if it supplied the list to Boag. Kim Hill speaks to Megan Woods, the minister in charge of isolation facilities.
It took four days for disgraced National MP Hamish Walker to come clean about leaking private information, but less than 24 hours for his career to come crashing down around him. The Clutha-Southland MP announced shortly after midday that he won't seek re-election in September - a decision his leader described as his only option. The saga ramped up last night when Mr Walker confessed to the leak, with former National Party president Michelle Boag admitting shortly after that she passed the details of Covid-19 patients onto the backbench MP. And it's still unclear where Ms Boag got the information from in the first place. Our political reporter Jo Moir has this story.
Synopsis: Listen in as we interview Jo Boag, the Creative Director of Guess How Much I Love You: Autumn Journey and review Loving, Middle School: Worst Years of my Life, The Eagle Huntress, and Ice Age: Collision Course at the Discovery Cube. Hosts Keefer Blakeslee and Morgan Bertsch are joined by KIDS FIRST! Film Critics Tre'ana and Kamhai. Before you spend your hard earned dollars at the movies, be sure to listen to what our youth reporters have to say.
On October 29, 2014, the EC2 team – Brent Olson and Jeff Nichols – sat down with Dr. Peter Boag in the elegant Hotel Monaco in Salt Lake City for our first-ever EC2 interview. Peter is professor and Columbia Chair in the History of the American West at Washington State University. His WSU website tells us about Peter's distinguished publication record: He is the author of three books, Environment and Experience: Settlement Culture in Nineteenth-Century Oregon (University of California Press, 1992), Same-Sex Affairs: Constructing and Controlling Homosexuality in the Pacific Northwest (University of California Press, 2003), and Re-Dressing America's Frontier Past (University of California Press 2011). The latter title won the 2013 biennial Ray Allen Billington Prize for the best book on American frontier history from the Organization of American Historians; was named an “Over the Rainbow Book” by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Round Table of the American Library Association in 2013; received the Honorable Mention from the Armitage-Jameson Book Prize Committee for the best book in Western American Women's and Gender History, in 2012; and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Awards in 2012. Journal articles he has written have won the Oscar O. Winther Prize, the Joel Palmer Award, and honorable mentions for the Audre Lorde Prize and the Joan Jensen-Darlis Miller Prize. We had a wide-ranging conversation for about an hour, concerning one of Peter's latest projects, a history of lgbt people in the West, as well as the subject he talked about at the University of Utah, “Gender, Sexuality and the Decolonization of the Mythic American West.” Our thanks to our friends in the History Department at the U. and the American West Center, co-sponsor of Peter's visit, for letting us piggyback on their invitation. Unfortunately Jeff and Brent have proven to be interview novices. We failed to properly record the interview audio, so only the last ten minutes survived, in which Peter talks about his other current project, a story of parricide and agrarian crisis at the turn of the twentieth century. That's also why it's taken us so long to process the audio. Our thanks, and apologies, to Peter for being our guinea pig. It really was an excellent conversation and Peter was, as usual, thoughtful and engaging. We believe that this short excerpt is well worth your time; you'll have to take our word for the rest of it. We promise to do better next time.
