Cast members Tom, Tim and Megs are interviewed by Cait, for the brilliant Putney Theatre Production of Accidental Death of an Anarchist by Dario Fo and Franca Rame, adapted by Tom Basden. Directed by Barney Hart Dyke and Owen Thomas James. An irrepressible fraudster known only as the Maniac is brought into Police Headquarters just as the officers are preparing for a judicial review of the recent 'accidental' death of a suspect in custody. Outwitting his captors, the Maniac dupes them into performing a farcical recreation of the incident, exposing the absurd corruption and terrifying idiocy at the heart of the system.Dario Fo and Franca Rame's riotous satire has been widely performed around the world since its premiere in 1970. Tom Basden's acclaimed adaptation was first performed in 2022 (starring Daniel Rigby as the Maniac), transferring first to the Lyric in 2023 before moving to the West End.Reviews of the original production'A glorious comedy that leaps off the stage' – The Times. 'Simply brilliant... With all the changes going on in the real estate industry, how can you embrace them and become an effective leader? In this episode, I chat with three leading ladies, Jaynie Atanasoff, Jan Hayse, and Katie Stephans, as they share their stories and how they are embracing these changes. Grab your cafecito and join us to get a fresh perspective on what it means to lead at the highest level. Meet The Leaders Jaynie Atanasoff, Vice President, Shared Success Center, HomeServices of America,  jaynieatanasoff@homeservices.com Jan Hayse, President, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Beach Properties of Florida, jan@bpfla.com Katie Stephans, Vice President, Enterprise Applications, HomeServices of America, KatieStephans@homeservices.com Becoming Real Estate Leaders Katie joined the real estate world during one of the worst years, which was in 2008. But thanks to her technology background, she was able to bring fresh ideas into the industry to help businesses grow during that time. Jaynie comes from an HR background, which helped her transition into the real estate industry effectively with a customer service mindset. Also, realizing how important feedback is during change helped her excel in her transition into her new role. Jan joined the real estate industry in 2011 after leaving the banking industry and wanting a professional career that would work around her kids' schedule at that time. Always up for a challenge and networking with others, she was able to get outside her comfort zone to become a real estate agent. Embracing Adversity Jaynie shares her experience of when her mother developed dementia and how it helped her embrace a new perspective of change. Things happened unexpectedly, and there's nothing you can do about it besides adapting and keeping going. Reflecting on this experience allowed her to learn how to handle tough situations professionally and get through them. Katie shares another personal experience of her struggles with infertility. You expect it would be easy to enter motherhood, but for her, it was a ten-year struggle. This showed her you always have to put one foot forward and never give up, no matter how challenging the situation is. Embracing AI technology has not always been easy for Jan, and it was even harder having to help train her team. However, by surrounding herself with other leaders, she was able to embrace the change and help her team out. Creating Space for Life One of the hardest challenges every woman faces, no matter what industry they're in, is balancing work and personal life, especially when working from home. If you're a Type A person, like Katie, she shares how important it is to have boundaries when it comes to spending time with family and friends. Jan shares why a morning routine can help create that “me time” that every woman needs before starting her day. It helps put you in the right mindset to tackle the work tasks at hand. Jaynie likes to be mindful of what is going on at the moment. Also, when work is done, she completely turns the computer off to enjoy fun activities like golf, being with friends, and bowling. In this, Hill explores the idea of "drifting" as humans and the roll schools play in the creation of non-thinking drifters. Sit back and have a listen. A long time ago, a bishop was traveling, visiting different areas he was designated in Iceland as part of his duties. As was common back then, he had a group of servants with him, including a maid whose job was to cook his meals. One evening, after setting up camp on a mountain, everyone went to bed for the night. Want more Icelandic folklore stories? This episode is part of my Folklore Friday series where I am sharing an Icelandic folklore story every Friday in 2024. Click Here for More Icelandic Folklore The Bishop's Missing Maid To everyone's surprise, the next morning the maid was missing. Naturally, this caused a lot of alarm, and the bishop's party searched high and low for her, but she was nowhere to be found. The bishop, being sharp and well-versed in local lore, suspected that she had been taken by elves. Now, among the bishop's servants was a man known as Jón the Giant. True to his nickname, Jón was massive and incredibly strong. The bishop called him over and said, “Jón, I need you to stay in my tent and keep watch. If the maid shows up, grab her and don't let her go, no matter how much she struggles or begs. And be careful—she might try to trick you with lies to escape.”After giving these instructions, the bishop grabbed his staff, stepped outside the tent, and drew three circles on the ground around it. Then he walked off into the night without saying where he was going. The Strange Return of the Maid Meanwhile, Jón the Giant sat down on the bishop's bed and waited, staying perfectly still. Time passed, and then—sure enough—the maid appeared. She wasn't wearing any shoes and ran straight into the tent. She headed toward the bishop's pillow, as if trying to retrieve something from underneath it. But John was quick; he stood up, grabbed her, and held on tight. At first, the maid pleaded with him, claiming the bishop had sent her to fetch something and that she needed to hurry back to him. But Jón wasn't fooled. He ignored her begging and held her firmly, no matter how much she fought and struggled. While this was happening, the other servants outside saw something truly eerie: twelve men dressed in blue, riding on horseback, approaching the tent. But as soon as these riders reached the edge of the circles the bishop had drawn, they stopped abruptly—almost as if they'd hit an invisible wall—and vanished into thin air. The circles, it turned out, were magical barriers created by the bishop's staff, keeping anything unholy or evil from entering. A Tale of Elves and Magic Not long after, the bishop returned. He ordered his servants to tie up the maid until she calmed down, then left again. Eventually, the maid came back to her senses, and once she did, everyone was eager to hear what had happened to her.She explained that, during the night, a man had come to her bedside, taken her hand, and led her out of the camp. She didn't know why or where they were going until they arrived at a mound. Once inside, she found herself in a grand hall filled with people. At the far end of the hall, a group of women gave her a spinning wheel and some hemp and told her to spin it when she woke up in the morning. But things took a strange turn. She said the bishop had appeared to her in that hall and told her to hurry back to the tent to fetch his keys from under his pillow. In her rush, she hadn't even put on her shoes before running back. Outwitting the Elves And that was how the bishop, who was not only a holy man but also well-versed in magic, outsmarted the elves and rescued his maid from their grasp. This wasn't his first time dealing with such mischief, and those who knew him believed he could've pulled off the rescue a hundred different ways. The elves didn't stand a chance against him! Random Fact of the Episode Þorlákur Þórhallsson is Iceland's most famous bishop. He was the bishop of Skáholt from 1178-1193.

Chapter 1: Summary of Outwitting the Devil"Outwitting the Devil" is a personal development book written by Napoleon Hill in 1938, unpublished until 2011. The book is framed as a fictional dialogue between Hill and a character representing the Devil, which serves as a metaphor for the obstacles and fears that prevent individuals from achieving success. In the book, Hill explores several key concepts:1. Fear and Doubt: The Devil represents the fears and doubts that plague individuals, preventing them from reaching their true potential. Hill discusses how these negative emotions can be manipulated to control people's lives.2. Definiteness of Purpose: Hill emphasizes the importance of having a clear goal or purpose. He argues that knowing exactly what one wants in life is essential for success.3. Self-Discipline and Mastery of Self: The book highlights the need for self-discipline and mental control to overcome obstacles and resist the influence of fear.4. Drifting: Hill introduces the idea of "drifting," a state where individuals lack direction and purpose, making them easy targets for the Devil's influence. He argues that successful people avoid drifting by being proactive and intentional in their actions.5. Education and Learning: Continuous learning and adaptation are crucial themes. Hill stresses that education, both formal and informal, plays a significant role in personal development.6. The Power of the Mind: The book delves into the idea that thoughts have a direct impact on reality. Hill suggests that a positive mindset can empower individuals to create the lives they desire. The dialogue concludes with Hill asserting that by recognizing and overcoming internal fears and negativity, one can "outwit the Devil" and achieve lasting success. Overall, the book serves as a guide for harnessing the power of the mind and attaining personal and professional goals.Chapter 2: The Theme of Outwitting the Devil"Outwitting the Devil" by Napoleon Hill is a thought-provoking work that was written in 1938 but published posthumously in 2011. This concept ties back to self-discipline and continuous learning.5. Mastery over Self: The conversation emphasizes self-discipline as a critical factor in achieving personal success. In today's episode, we draw inspiration from Napoleon Hill's classic book, Outwitting the Devil, and explore how his powerful principles can be applied to our own healing processes. We dive into the concept of ‘drifting,' as Hill describes it—going through life without a clear sense of purpose—and how this impacts our health. Discover why having a definite purpose is crucial for well-being, and how a lack of focus leads us to seek external solutions instead of tapping into our own inner healing power. Hill emphasizes that fear is one of the Devil's greatest tools—fear of illness, fear of pain, fear of failure—and we explore how these fears can keep us stuck in unhealthy patterns. Self-discipline, as Hill stresses, is essential in natural healing; it's not a one-time action but a daily commitment to wellness. Believing in your body's ability to heal activates its natural healing processes. Your faith isn't just a mindset—it has a tangible, physical impact on your body. #NapoleonHill #OutwittingTheDevil #PurposeDrivenHealing #OvercomeFear #SelfDiscipline #NaturalHealing #MindBodyConnection #HolisticWellness

Episode Overview: In this episode of The John Kitchens Podcast Experience, John and his co-hosts dive into key issues facing today's real estate professionals, including the essential roles of the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and Multiple Listing Service (MLS). They explore how these institutions protect agents and clients, plus tackle major industry shifts like commission structure changes and the rising importance of multifamily investments. The team also discusses how to leverage community relationships and market knowledge for sustained success in real estate.   Key Topics Covered: The Role of NAR and MLS: NAR Advocacy Efforts: John highlights insights from Cindy Featherstone Shields about how NAR's lobbying efforts protect real estate agents and homeowners. Key areas include defending 1031 exchanges, preserving tax benefits, and preventing restrictive real estate policies. The Value of MLS: Discussion on the essential function of MLS, allowing agents to organize and access listings effectively and emphasizing how a unified platform benefits agents, sellers, and buyers alike. Adaptation for Agents: Emphasis on the need for agents to enhance their negotiation skills and effectively communicate the value they bring to transactions, especially as the market undergoes structural changes. Investment Strategy and Wealth-Building: Benefits of Multifamily Investment: John and the team discuss multifamily properties as a strategic investment, citing scalable cash flow and value appreciation as significant advantages compared to single-family investments. Long-Term Client Connections: The team shares insights on creating sustainable client relationships through added value and consistent communication, which can significantly enhance an agent's business over time. John discusses how agents can leverage this shift to better serve clients in the current economic climate. Final Thoughts and Takeaways: MLS and NAR Are Cornerstones of Real Estate Success: The MLS and NAR provide structure and protection essential to the current real estate model, ensuring transparency, accessibility, and industry stability. Relationships Are Key to Sustained Success: Agents should focus on community building and long-term client relationships to thrive, especially in a shifting market. Investing in Multifamily and Commercial Real Estate is a Smart Move: Multifamily investments offer scalability, stability, and excellent cash flow opportunities; agents and investors should consider diversifying their portfolios to adapt to current market conditions. I first heard of Bitcoin around the time it was first gaining steam, circa 2010ish. I guess due to certain circles where I spent my time and education, it was only natural that it would come up in conversation. While it remained mysterious, I was brave enough to invest a bit of my own USD into Bitcoin in the 2013 timeframe, and have kept up with it somewhat through the years. What attracted me to the Bitcoin "craze" at that time was how people who's opinion I respect explained that it's not an investment opportunity - as most folks think of it today - but it actually mimics the most sound of forms of money in many ways.So I wanted to bring on to the show someone who is informed on the right reasons to "invest" in Bitcoin. I use the quotes around the word invest because it's not a typical investment where you put a certain amount of government-issued currency then gain a return on it after a period of time. It's actually much more complex (or simple?) than that.Bitcoin is a means of exchange to pay for stuff that circumvents governments entirely.Wesley Schlemmer of the Bitcoin Bay joins us on today's episode to explain the basics of Bitcoin, the Blockchain, the basics of sound money and more. While the fallout from the FTX misdeeds will be felt for some time, the upside is that Bitcoin is on people's minds, and we have an opportunity to learn about it, and learn how to do it the way the creators of Bitcoin intended it to be used in the first place! In this episode, you'll discover:-Wesley's personal background and becoming familiar with crypto...01:15-Cypher Punks and a short history of Bitcoin (Hint: It's not an investment opportunity!)...03:45-What is the Blockchain, and what is its relation to cryptocurrency?...14:15-What is sound money, and what makes Bitcoin a sound form of exchange?...19:20Three primary characteristicsMedium of exchangeStore of valueUnit of accountQualities of sound moneyDurableFuingleDivisiblePortableScarce-How Bitcoin promotes self-responsibility..27:00-What the heck happened with FTX, and what can we learn from it?...31:00-How to get into the Bitcoin game without it being a risky investment scheme...37:38Resources mentioned:Bitcoin Bay websiteCypherpunk ManifestoInfo about blockchain wallets Wesley mentionsThe Bitcoin StandardMuun Bitcoin WalletsBisqTerms mentioned:BlockchainLitecoinEthereumBlock ChimesCypher PunksPanopticonDifficulty of AdjustmentPrivacy v. Some guy who calls himself a pastor declared "I have something to say."This was in reference to what happened at the opening ceremony of the Olympics where Leonardo's depiction of the Last Supper was openly mocked with a gluttonous drag queen sitting in the place of Jesus, transvestites and other undesirables sitting in the place of the Holy Apostles. When I heard about this via a Facebook post, I was so shocked at the image that it took me awhile to really process the gravity of the scene. This didn't occur in some dive bar in a back alley. This happened at the Olympics. Even if you're not a Christian, this should be a wakeup call to the lengths these folks will go to promote their agenda of "diversity" while stopping at nothing to destroy the lives of anyone who dissents from their approved viewpoints. But what was truly disturbing was how many people who identify as Christians rallied around a diatribe posted by a guy named Jacob Whitehead, who calls himself "a pastor". Well, his comments revealed a great deal of ignorance and emotional immaturity; and to think that so many people applauded it is problematic. In this podcast, I read Mr. Whitehead's comments in their entirety, and then give my own comments in response. Here we go:"I'm a pastor, and I have something to say.Christians that get online and spew hate toward nonbelievers anger me much more than nonbelievers spewing hate toward my religion. I have no idea what the table at the Olympics was supposed to represent, as the official statement contradicts the larger opinion. But what I can say is that every single person at that table would have been invited to Jesus' table. Jesus not only spent His time on earth with sinners, He invited them to the very table everyone assumes the Olympic table represents.Matthew was a tax collector.Peter was about to deny Him.Thomas was about to doubt His resurrection.Judas was about to betray Him.Jesus ate with them anyway. Jesus was with “sinners” all of the time. In fact, it's one of the reasons the church people hated Him and wanted Him dead. Please allow this to serve as a reminder that people who are not Christians are not our responsibility to regulate. Jesus gave us an example to follow of welcoming everyone and pointing them toward the love of Jesus. Remember that God's kindness is meant to lead us to repentance, not the shouting of His angry “followers.”This doesn't mean I condone any religion (especially my own) being mocked. In fact, it is wrong. But my heart doesn't hurt for what they are doing to Jesus. My heart hurts for people that are likely not in a loving relationship with their Creator. Jesus doesn't need me to shout about sinners sinning. He wants me to shout about the hope and the love they are missing out on.Before you share an angry post, or shout at people that Jesus died for, think for a while, and ask yourself if He would do the same. To be honest, you already know the answer. He wouldn't. He didn't. He died for them just as much as He died for you. Angrily shouting at people that don't know Jesus is in direct contradiction to the example He gave us on the cross.Westboro Baptist sandwich signs should anger you much more than this. Jesus flipped tables on people in the temple, not people outside of it. Remember that."The devil doesn't want you to listen to this!Napoleon Hill's Outwitting the Devil is now available in audiobook format, narrated by Yours Truly.Visit my website, jamesdnewcomb.com to get instant access to the audios!

I was serendipitously hired to narrate/produce two separate audiobooks in 2018 and 2023 respectively, which convinced me that the Orthodox Church is where I was being led spiritually. So this is my story.Episode highlights:01:30 Early Spiritual Experiences06:53 The Bapticostals10:15 Do we truly have free will when compelled to act by threat of eternal damnation?15:10 The Calvinist Presbyterians18:03 Messianic Judaism20:48 Spiritual Purgatory in Korea23:07 The non-Calvinist Presbyterians27:53 Discovering the Orthodox Church34:21 Conclusion: An Open InvitationIf you wish to ask me anything about what I've discussed in this podcast, or simply want to discuss any matter related to spirituality, please send me an email james@jamesdnewcomb.com.I would love to speak with you and answer any questions you might have! The devil doesn't want you to listen to this!Napoleon Hill's Outwitting the Devil is now available in audiobook format, narrated by Yours Truly.Visit my website, jamesdnewcomb.com to get instant access to the audios!

In this episode I start out with a terrible Adella impression. I speak about the challenges this summer with invasive work, but over coming challenges with our new addition to the Dbltree Family of Tools the Stihl FS 561 D-EM. I talk about replacing the seals on my Birchmeier Sprayer and where to get the seal kits for. The rest of the episode I attempt to focus on talking about the subconscious mind. I have learned the hard way what you say has an effect on future outcomes. I have come across a great book called Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill author of "Think and Grow Rich{. In this alleged interview with the Devil, Napoleon unconvers how the Devil uses fear and the habit of drifting to rule over our minds and keep us confined. By thinking for yourself you can embrace freedom. I'll be honest I need to imrpove on keeping my thought process straight for I feel I was on a good rhythm in my dialouge then a random thought appears which probably did have a connection and due to trying to make a joke to make an uncomfortable topic more lighthearted I missed the point. I do apolgoize and it is an art form I need to craft. I feel I am closer, but I need more mental discipline. At the end I attempt to explain this connection with the subconscious mind and how it's almost child like. It takes in everything and reflects who you really are. What you say leads to cause and effect and that is something I am learning to control so I can create a better outcome. I hope this might give you something to think about and lead you on your own path as I am too.

Ever reflected on how jealousy can mask our own potential? In a recent episode of my podcast, I had a heart-to-heart about the illusions of jealousy. Did you know jealousy is often just a scarcity mindset in disguise? It struck me that what we envy in others, often reflects what we believe we can't achieve. Let's shift that perspective together! #MindsetMatters #JealousyIllusion #PersonalGrowth In this podcast episode, Kimberly Spencer, a mindset and communication coach from CrownYourself.com, tackles the issue of jealousy. She shares her own experiences with envy, particularly during her adolescence, and how it impacted her relationships. Kimberly discusses the deceptive nature of jealousy and its roots in a scarcity mindset. She advises listeners to inquire about the methods others have used to succeed, rather than coveting their achievements. By doing so, individuals can determine if they're willing to make similar efforts. Kimberly also touches on the pitfalls of self-comparison and suggests using jealousy as motivation, seeing others' accomplishments as evidence of what's possible. She concludes by encouraging listeners to celebrate others' successes and to view jealousy as an indicator of attainable goals, promoting personal growth. Enjoy, sovereigns!
