In this episode, we dive into the chilling new horror film The Front Room, directed by Sam and Max Eggers and starring Brandy Norwood and Kathryn Hunter. As newly pregnant Belinda faces the uncomfortable reality of her mother-in-law moving in, her world quickly spirals out of control. Can she protect her unborn child from the sinister intentions lurking within her home? Next, we revisit a cult classic with Beetlejuice (1988), directed by Tim Burton. Starring Michael Keaton as the chaotic and mischievous Beetlejuice, alongside Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and Winona Ryder, we explore the Maitlands' haunting troubles, the Deetz family's unconventional arrival, and the mayhem that ensues when Beetlejuice is called upon to "help." Finally, we discuss the highly anticipated sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024). Tim Burton returns to the director's chair, with Michael Keaton reprising his iconic role. He's joined by Winona Ryder and Monica Bellucci in this continuation, where three generations of the Deetz family find themselves once again ensnared by Beetlejuice's antics. Lydia's rebellious daughter stumbles upon a portal to the afterlife, and chaos is only a few words away from unleashing Beetlejuice once more. Maybe you think you've seen every scary mother-in-law fiction has to offer — you absolutely haven't. In the new movie The Front Room, a pregnant woman (Brandy Norwood) allows her mother-in-law (Kathryn Hunter) to move in. In a film that's part creepy and part very darkly funny, the two women square off for control of the house and the child on the way.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

In today's episode I review the new horror movie with Brandy Norwood called The Front Room
A little under 10 years ago, Disney introduced the Descendants franchise, giving new life to their iconic animated characters in a modern live-action TV movie. The premise worked. “It is just truly such a killer concept,” says Kylie Cantrall, who stars as Red, the daughter of Alice in Wonderland's Queen of Hearts (played by Rita Ora), in their latest installment Descendants: The Rise of Red. In the film, Red and Chloe (Malia Baker), the daughter of Cinderella, team up to save their fantasy world from extinction. Brandy Norwood reprises her role as Cinderella, which she first played in the now-classic 1997 TV movie Cinderella, reuniting with Paolo Montalban as Prince Charming. “They still have such a soft spot for each other. They just have the best chemistry.” For Cantrall, who rose to fame playing the lead in Disney Channel series Gabby Duran & the Unsittables, getting this part “has felt so pinch me and so surreal.” From here, Cantrall hopes to keep growing into her career. “I'm maturing, my art is maturing as well, and it's cool to see that reflected in the art I'm making.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Brandy Norwood exploded onto the Pop Culture scene in the 1990s. She starred in the hit sitcom Moesha, had multiple hit albums, and even won a Grammy. She was speeding along on the highway of life until it all came crashing down on December 30, 2006. This week on Hollywood at Home, we begin by journeying back in time to 1968 Alabama as writer and producer Jacque Cofer takes us behind the scenes of the hit show “The Wonder Years.” Cofer delves into the unique mix of comedy and heart that goes into creating a show that is at once a period piece, a coming-of-age comedy, and a family story highlighting the ups and down of growing up Black and middle-class in Montgomery, Alabama. Moreover, as she leads us along on her journey from writing for Martin Lawrence, Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg, and Brandy Norwood, to creating her own show, Cofer gives us an inside look at what it takes to bring a sitcom to life. Like the stories she produces on screen, the story of her path through Hollywood is filled with laughter, friendship, obstacles, and triumphs.

In this eye-opening episode, the duo dissects the high-profile cases of Brandy Norwood, Lindsay Lohan, and Caitlyn Jenner, shedding light on why these incidents often lead to more civil charges than criminal ones and speaking to the public brouhaha that these situations caused. From the nuances of legal proceedings to the public scrutiny surrounding these incidents, Noah and Aidan provide a candid analysis of the factors at play. Why do celebrities seem to face more civil consequences than criminal charges when involved in vehicular assaults? How does fame and public perception influence the legal outcomes? How did some celebrities like Brandy come away more unscatched versus Caitlyn and Lindsay? From Brandy Norwood's tragic accident to Lindsay Lohan's legal entanglements and Caitlyn Jenner's high-profile Pacific Coast Highway crash, each story offers a unique lens into the intersection of fame, responsibility, and justice. Join the conversation as Noah and Aidan unravel the intricacies of these cases and any repercussions that they faced - whether civil or criminal. One of the new Netflix Christmas schlock offerings this year is titled "BEST. CHRISTMAS. EVER!" (Their punctuation. Not mine.)For you late '90s kids, this movie stars Rollergirl, Moesha, and the guy who had relations with the pie in American Pie. That's Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood, and Jason Biggs for the rest of you.Heather is super jealous of her old friend Brandy, who seems to have the perfect life. Heather and Jason are taking their kids to her sister's house, but her son's stuffed monkey/imaginary friend puts Brandy's address into the GPS instead, and Holiday Highjinks ensue! And by "Holiday Highjinks," of course, I mean badly scripted, poorly acted generic Christmas movie crap. But is it so bad that it's good? Will we GET THE FLICK OUTTA HERE?!?

It is time for the crew to share their top recommendations for the week. Cody shares with us the Netflix play to film adaptation of American Son starring the same cast that debuted the production on broadway the year before. Jt introduces us to Lupin, the French Netflix show inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin about a gentleman thief, Assane Diop, who sets out to avenge his father for an injustice inflicted by a wealthy family. Finally Shannon visited Disney plus for the 1997 Rodgers and Hammerstien's film adaptation of the broadway hit, Cinderella, starring Brandy. Did you know, Brandy Norwood became the first African-American to play Cinderella? I'm at a dinner party in this cool, old house that belongs to one of my stepmom Sandy's best friends. This castle-style home stands three stories tall and has winding staircases inside and trees surrounding it. And I'm a fourth-grader surrounded by adults at this get-together. So despite this cool house, I eventually get bored. I'm still sitting in my chair trying to behave, though. Just as we're about to start on dessert, Denise (who lives there) notices my boredom. She takes a leftover dinner roll and chucks it out the window! We're so high up that we never even hear it hit the ground. I look at her in shock as she takes another roll and throws that out the window, too! I ask, “Denise, why do you do that?” She responds, “Oh, to feed the dragons, of course.” Dragons?! “You have pet dragons?” I ask. “Yeah, three of them. And they love dinner rolls.” Right then and there, I decided that Denise is one of the world's coolest people and that I too want to have pet dragons. This story has stuck with me ever since I was that 9-year-old because of the possibility. What if there were actually dragons or other magical creatures living among us? That's the premise of the Sam London Adventure books series written by my special guest today, Todd Gallicano. In this episode, he and I talk about how you have your own hero's journey, effective ways to open and close your story, plot twist predictability, and overcoming writer's block. You'll also get answers to questions like: How can you use truth as a springboard for a fictional story? In what way are you on your own hero's journey right now? Should you leave a story open-ended or resolve it for your audience? And what's really responsible for writer's block anyway? What you will learn in this episode: Why the inner journey is so important in storytelling Why the precipitating or inciting incident is an essential element to open a story Why writing yourself into a corner might be the best thing to do for your story Who is Todd? Todd Gallicano is a book author, Hollywood screenwriter, and international speaker who graduated from New York University's School of Film and Television. He began his film career with Italian-born producer Dino De Laurentiis. Since then, he's sold screenplays to SKG, Netflix, and Dreamworks and had scripts developed with Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, and other major production companies. In 2023, Heather Graham, Brandy Norwood, Jason Biggs, and Matt Cedeño will star in the film Best. Christmas. Ever. based on his screenplay. Lovers of the Harry Potter books or Rick Riordan's fictional works based on ancient Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology will appreciate Todd's Sam London series. His series has already garnered a reputation for encouraging readers to learn more about mythology and folklore, as well as visit and support national parks worldwide. Todd was a recent panelist at the International Congress of Arabic Publishing and Creative Industries and has spoken at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. His talks have touched on adapting books into films, games, and audio, and he's introduced thousands of students to the universal storytelling components within ancient myth and modern fantasy. You may have also seen Todd's appearances on TV or his articles in major publications. Currently, he hosts the podcast The Creature Files where he invites expert guests and eyewitnesses to talk about creatures from mythology and folklore. Dear Culture, is Brandy the “vocal bible?” Yes, our beloved Brandy Norwood has been labeled the Vocal Bible, but I'm not really sure if I'm sold on this idea. That's why I, Panama Jackson, will be chatting with journalist Dai Poole, so he can help me unpack why Brandy has been given this high esteem. Dear Culture is an original podcast from TheGrio Black Podcast Network. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This episode is long overdue and a single hour wouldn't even begin to cover it all, but you have to start somewhere! Troy is joined by new friend of the pod, Mykel Montana, for a much-needed conversation about Miss "vocal Bible" herself...Brandy Norwood. We decided to mix things up a little today by taking about two movies instead of just one for our underrated live action fairytale theme! We first dive into the 1997 Wonderful World of Disney Cinderella starring Brandy Norwood and Whitney Houston based off of the stage play by Rodgers and Hammerstein and then we talk about the 1957 CBS version starring Julie Andrews. If you are not familiar with the stage play, the story is a little different than the familiar and beloved Cinderella Disney classic from 1950. If you would like to share some favourite underrated live action films that you grew up with or discovered during quarantine, email emmareviewsmovies@gmail.com with your suggestions and maybe we'll do them on the show! On the latest episode of Nick Nack Goes To The Movies, it has been at least a week so we are back to that slasher movie content! We did super heroes last week so now it is time for something a bit spookier. With the weather getting better, I want to know how you are gonna celebrate this 4th of July, I Want To Know What You Did Last Summer? A 90's darling and cult favorite loaded with 90's royalty including Jennifer love Hewitt, Freddie Printz Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Brandy Norwood. The scares are aplenty and if you ignore that brutal third movie, this is a solid franchise. But kick back, crack open a cold one, and get into some nineties nostalgia with this summer slasher. And if you stick around to the very end, you might find out some fun future plans for the franchise and learn about the planned sequels that were star-studded. Let's talk some slasher content about this franchise or your favorite comfort-food franchise when the weather get's warmer. Let me know on social at either @NickNackMovies or @NickNack_IC on either Tik Tok, Instagram, or Twitter!

Grab your glass slippers, or maybe just your regular slippers because this week I'm headed back to 1997 to celebrate Disney's Cinderella starring Brandy Norwood, Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg, Jason Alexander and Victor Garber. Based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Cinderella, the remake featured homages to the original made-for-tv movie productions and some much needed 90's style I'm still obsessing over. Bippity Boppity Boo on Disney for making us wait 24 years to watch it on a streaming network. But yay for reliving some Wonderful World of Disney nostalgia and a lot (no really, like a lot) of purple brocade. This episode delves into what astrology can tell us about the casting and making of this film and maybe even what the future of the never released soundtrack will be!? So this week I was actually going to release a different episode but decided I would rather release this one, mainly because it was just released on Disney+ and fresh on everyone's mind and tvs. This is a retelling of a classic fairytale produced by the one and only Whitney Houston, may she Rest In Peace. Along side Whitney Houston is Brandy Norwood, Victor Garber, Jason Alexander, Bernadette Peters, Whoopi Goldberg and others. If you haven't seen it, be sure to check it out on Disney+. Ignore the bad graphics, it was 1997 and just enjoy this awesome version. Cinderella Glass Slipper Cocktail (recipesjust4u.com): Ingredients 2 oz vodka 2 oz blue curacao 1 oz. Coconut nectar 3 oz. Grapefruit juice 3 oz. Pineapple juice 2 oz. cream Sanding sugar for the glass rim (optional) Instructions Add ice to a cocktail shaker. Pour the ingredients over the ice. Shake vigorously together about 15 seconds to combine. Strain into two martini glasses and enjoy. Cinderella Drinking Game (filmdrunkies.tumblr.com): Drink whenever Bernadette Peters slays (e.g. serves you to filth) Someone starts singing. Jason Alexander gets hurt physically or emotionally. The Prince doesn’t want the life he has. The Queen is worried about her son. The King clearly doesn’t care. For any cheap special effect. They mention the Ball. We know that literally everyone was on the live stream for Brandy and Monica's "Verzuz" battle! This battle specifically was trending for a while to make happen and it finally did and didn't disappoint. Two of the most successful R&B singers of the last 30 years proved they still have drawing power in 2020. Over 6 million people tuned in to watch Brandy Norwood and Monica Arnold's Verzuz battle at some point this past Monday night. According to the Verzuz organizers, the Brandy/Monica faceoff reached a peak of 1,243,000 concurrent viewers on Instagram Live with over 4,200,000 viewers in total on the platform. They added another 1,600,000 total viewers on Apple Music. But the real question is - who won?? In related news, Monica wore a head to toe outfit, purportedly created by the Italian fashion house of FENDI. However, sources say that people suspect that the outfit was counterfeit. One popular IG fashionista actually reached out to Fendi, and was told (allegedly) that they did not create Monica's outfit. It is confirmed that according to the United States Department of Justice, it’s not illegal to buy a counterfeit product for your personal use—even if you know it’s a fake. But the issue is that Monica wore the allegedly fake goods on a live video show that she got paid for. And so that could bring a host of legal issues - if Fendi chooses to go after her. Interesting? Tyler Perry is now a billionaire, according to Forbes. Forbes estimates Perry's net worth at $1 billion and says he's earned more than $1.4 billion in pretax income since 2005. Perry owns the entirety of his creative output, which includes more than 1,200 television episodes, 22 films, at least two dozen plays, and a 330-acre studio lot in Atlanta - BLACK EXCELLENCE!! Over 17,000 people sign a petition to replace People Sign Petition To Replace the Anderson, South Carolina confederate memorial with a statue of Chadwick Boseman. The organizers of the petition hope that the Confederate statue will be moved to the Anderson County Museum, to preserve its history without honoring its racist ideals. Chadwick Boseman sadly passed away at the age of 43 following a 4-year battle with colon cancer, RIP!! On Tuesday, Cardi B announced her new business relationship with Balenciaga. As part of the brand's winter 2020 ad campaign, the 103-year-old luxury fashion house displayed the rapper on a billboard outside the famous Louvre museum in Paris. Cardi B has experienced win after win for the last month. Her record-breaking "WAP" single with Megan Thee Stallion spent two weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 chart. Plus, Invasion of Privacy became the longest-charting female rap album on the Billboard 200. We always got you covered!! Until next time...

We're going straight to the sequel for I Know What You Did Last Summer specifically for the presence of Ms. Brandy Norwood, and we're so glad we did! Costume designer Daniel J. Lester (Once Upon a Time, Spawn) put Brandy, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Co. in looks that are perfect for the film's tropical island setting. There may not be a ton of outfits in this late '90s slasher, but the ones we have are daaamn good. Even Marie, a typical beige-hater, loves J-Love's uber neutral 'fits. What are you waiting for???
