What was supposed to be a few months of travel for Garrett and Jessica Gee quickly turned into a lifestyle and a career. The couple figured out how to become travel influencers, how to get brands to pay them and their young family to travel the world. Part of me wanted to find out that this wasn't a dream...that traveling with three small children was actually exhausting and tedious, but the truth is that Jessica and Garrett make it seem easy, and beautiful. And in a time when we are all stuck at home for the foreseeable future, their nomadic family feels like the escapism we desperately need.

Today's episode has a particular focus on family travel, and I'm joined today by Jessica Gee, the matriarch of one of the most well known travelling families in the world, The Bucket List Family, who I'm sure many of you follow on Youtube and social media. The Bucket List Family's story began back in 2015 when Jess and her husband Garrett decided to sell everything and leave home with their two children, for a journey around the world together. Eight years and another son later, they've visited more than 90 countries, have grown a following of 1.5 million YouTube subscribers and 3 million Instagram followers, and continue to find ways--big and small--to add to their lifelong travel bucket list.As a family of five, they've swum with whales in Tonga, slept in castles in Ireland, lived on a houseboat in Amsterdam and eaten breakfast with giraffes in Kenya. Jess shares how having been raised “a traditional all-American girl” whose family favoured trips to Disneyworld over international travel, she never imagined she would end up seeing so much of the world. Now she's partnered with National Geographic on her debut book, which provides all the know-how to fulfil your own family's bucket list—including how-tos for picking a destination, packing, budgeting, and even surviving a 12-hour plane ride. And it's these kind of practical questions as well as her Jess's travel chapters, that now as a parent myself, I'm so excited to uncover today. I've followed Jess and the family for years now, with a mixture of admiration and envy, and it's so interesting to hear about life on the road with three little ones. Since recording this episode with Jessica Gee in November of 2019 a lot has changed for The Bucket List Family – and the world. As professional travelers things slowed down in a major way when the coronavirus restrictions were put in place. The Gee family settled into their family home in Hawaii and have since developed The Bucket List Family Cartoon and a line of merch - debuting their famous backpack. Currently, the family is back to traveling and creating YouTube videos – as of now - they have visited 86 countries! In this interview, Jessica Gee shares how they handle the long flights with kids, the best snacks to travel with, and some of the best places to visit as a family! One thing I appreciate about The Bucket List Family is their dedication to documenting their experiences together. Whether they are swimming with whales or just hanging out in the kitchen at home they have videos and photos to show for it! You're going to love this chat about why that is so important and what made them decide to sell everything and travel the world in the first place! Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be putting $1 billion towards creators through 2022. It's a lot of $$$, but it's also not really a lot of $$$ when you compare it to how much YouTube is paying out creators every year. Plus, Netflix is using YouTube as a farm league for kids content. And Nas Daily and The Bucket List Family raise $11 million and $10 million a piece to pursue their own venture-backed startup ideas. Also, Josh is still bullish on YouTube Shorts.
