Caesura is a noun that refers to an interruption or break.  The Latin word caedere (ky DARE ay) means ‘to cut.' Since the mid-16th century, our word of the day has been used by English speakers to refer to something that cuts someone off. Example: After about an hour of a really tedious meeting, we were mercifully given a caesura. This much-needed break was a helpful way to let us rest up and prepare for three more boring hours.

We propose a renewed aestheticism that values beauty- not communication or identification – as the end of literature.  Beauty is for us the experience of the limit, an autonomy beyond that of life itself.  We search for it in all forms of extreme expression: whether in minimalism or maximalism, ultramodernism or neotraditionalism, in the experimental or in the archaic, in a desire that exceeds the body or in the longing for boredom.   Beauty is the encounter between the saint and the hedonist, the prostitute and the Buddha: a truth that, like staring into the face of Medusa, petrifies the gaze into a contemplation of nothingness.  We value beauty that can be discerned in the fragmentary and the sacred, the dysfunctional and the erotic, the derelict and the obsessive…

A semi generative limbo moment using sequencers and LFOs to modulate notes and parameters/effects etc. Disquiet Junto Project 0335: Alone Time Record conference-call hold music — a private limbo of your own making. Major thanks to Matt Pinto for having proposed this Junto project prompt. Step 1: Hold music is a ubiquitous fact of modern life. Ask yourself what hold music you’d like to hear while waiting for someone to pick up the other end of the line, or while waiting for a conference call to begin. Step 2: Record a short piece of hold music that satisfies the scenario you pondered in Step 1. Your finished track should be suitable for looping, since you never know how long you’re going to be on hold. Six More Important Steps When Your Track Is Done: Step 1: Include “disquiet0335” (no spaces or quotation marks) in the name of your track. Step 2: If your audio-hosting platform allows for tags, be sure to also include the project tag “disquiet0335” (no spaces or quotation marks). If you’re posting on SoundCloud in particular, this is essential to subsequent location of tracks for the creation a project playlist. Step 3: Upload your track. It is helpful but not essential that you use SoundCloud to host your track. Step 4: Please consider posting your track in the following discussion thread at llllllll.co: https://llllllll.co/t/disquiet-junto-project-0335-alone-time/ Step 5: Annotate your track with a brief explanation of your approach and process. Step 6: Then listen to and comment on tracks uploaded by your fellow Disquiet Junto participants. Other Details: Deadline: This project’s deadline is 11:59pm (that is, just before midnight) wherever you are on Monday, June 4, 2018. This project was posted in the late afternoon, California time, on Thursday, May 31, 2018. Length: The length of your track is up to you. It should be suitable for looping, since you never know how long you’re going to be on hold. Title/Tag: When posting your track, please include “disquiet0335” in the title of the track, and where applicable (on SoundCloud, for example) as a tag. Upload: When participating in this project, post one finished track with the project tag, and be sure to include a description of your process in planning, composing, and recording it. This description is an essential element of the communicative process inherent in the Disquiet Junto. Photos, video, and lists of equipment are always appreciated. Download: It is preferable that your track is set as downloadable, and that it allows for attributed remixing (i.e., a Creative Commons license permitting non-commercial sharing with attribution).
