Struggling to find time for fitness? Wondering how small habits can transform your health? In this episode of the me&my health up podcast, Coach Josh Wood shares his journey from a computer nerd in Minnesota to a holistic health and fitness coach in Tasmania. He discusses the importance of a holistic approach to health, emphasizing the need for movement, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. Coach Wood provides practical advice for busy parents on how to incorporate health into their daily lives, focusing on small, manageable steps. He highlights the significance of protein in the diet and the role of sleep in overall well-being. The conversation wraps up with insights on how to connect with Coach Wood for further guidance.Takeaways:Coach Josh Wood's journey began with a desire to be more active. Holistic health considers the whole person, not just isolated symptoms. Starting with small steps can lead to significant health improvements. Most people need to increase their protein intake for better health. Eating a palm-sized portion of protein at each meal is a good guideline. Sleep is crucial for managing stress and cravings. Busy parents can integrate health into their routines with simple changes. Nutrition should be additive, focusing on adding healthy foods rather than subtracting favourites. Understanding the timing of meals can enhance performance and recovery. A holistic approach allows for flexibility and personalisation in health practices. About Coach Josh Wood: Coach Josh Wood is a Tasmanian-based TEDx speaker, educator, and holistic fitness expert helping people get strong for life — not just for the gym. Hard to believe, but many families are beginning to contemplate the upcoming school year. For some, a return to teachers and classrooms begins in just a few weeks. In celebration, or just acceptance of the inevitable, Hoosier History Live will take a look at some Hoosier educators who made an impact when our host, Nelson Price, is joined by a historian colleague for another of our call-in shows. It so happens that Nelson's co-host, Ray Boomhower of the Indiana Historical Society, had an unlikely driver's ed teacher during a summer session at Mishawaka High School in the late 1970s. More than 20 years earlier, Marvin Wood had been in the spotlight as the coach of Milan High School, the tiny school in southeastern Indiana that captivated the country by winning the state high school basketball championship. The 1954 victory, known as the "Milan Miracle", involved a legendary, buzzer-beating shot by one of Coach Wood's players, Bobby Plump; it served as the inspiration for the classic movie Hoosiers (1986).

Sam Harrell grew up in Seminole, and later moved to Brownwood, where he would play football for Coach Gordon Wood. Coach Harrell was the son of a coach, and had the privilege playing for, learning from, or coaching against, nearly every great football coach in Texas history! He graduated from ACU and then began a career in education in Plainview. He then went on to join Coach Wood's staff in Brownwood. Coach Harrell took his first Head Football Coach in Reagan County, leading the Owls (Big Lake) for four successful years, prior to accepting the same position at Ennis High School. For some listeners, the draw will be the many games Coach Harrell has won (including three state championships), and while his record is certainly incredible, the most intriguing portion of this podcast, is the moment life came crashing down as he began a struggle with MS, that removed him from the Friday Night Lights. Coach Harrell was very fortunate to find a friend that filled him in on a procedure available in Panama. Thanks to God, Panama, and stem cell treatment, Coach Harrell is back on the sidelines in Ennis, Texas, and the Lions are poised for great things in the future. Coach Wood shares the importance he puts on himself to set expectations and be a model of his own expectations within his program. We also go in-depth on the personalities of the show, from Ronald Ollie and John Franklin to DJ Law, Coach Wood, and the ever-supportive Ms. Wagner. This episode is a review and breakdown of a really, fun behind the scenes look at the junior college football experience, the pressures and struggles of being a student athlete, and the redemption of players with difficult pasts and family stories, who are working to regain the opportunity to one day play in the NFL.
