Hello and welcome everyone to episode 2 of Surviving the Horror! In this episode Colin and Josh take a look at the Xbox 360 era launch title Condemned: Criminal Origins. Developed by Monolith Productions, and published by SEGA, Condemned released as a launch title on Xbox 360 in November of 2005. The game has some great atmosphere, sound design, and overall atmosphere while mixing in some visceral first person melee combat and exploration. In many ways Condemned was ahead of its time, and it holds up beautifully to this day. We hope that you enjoy, and thank you so much for listening!

It's October, so you know we have to cliche it up and roll out at least one episode about a scary game. And for my money, scary games don't get much better than Dead Space. This bad boy is hella fun to play, and it's scary as fuck, too! Resident Evil 4 was my first real experience with a "horror" game, and I loved it. When I saw Dead Space, I thought "that looks like a better Resident Evil 4". And I don't think it's a hot take to put these games in the same S Tier of survival horror. Two of the best to ever do it. My buddy Patrick returns to the show this week, and we spent an hour talking about why the game mechanics, controls, sound, atmosphere, and practically everything else about Dead Space is almost perfect. If you haven't played it yet, hopefully we can convince you to grab your plasma cutter (and a change of pants) and give it a shot! And before we enter zero gravity, I toss together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, we talk about the spring system I use here on RTG. Someone asks my gaming experience is different when I play a game for the podcast vs just playing it for fun. And do you ever feel guilty about playing video games?? Plus we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 more survival horror heavies: F.E.A.R. 2, Fatal Frame, and Condemned: Criminal Origins. The Darkness is a first-person shooter video game developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by 2K Games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game was released in 2007 in North America and Europe and it is based on The Darkness comic book series published by Top Cow Productions. A sequel titled The Darkness II was released in 2012.[1] The player takes on the role of Jackie Estacado (Kirk Acevedo), with the story presented through narration by himself. On the evening of his 21st birthday, Jackie is targeted for assassination by his "Uncle" Paulie Franchetti (Dwight Schultz) out of sheer paranoia that Jackie is after his position as the Don. As night falls, the Darkness (Mike Patton) - an ancient demonic force which has inhabited Jackie's bloodline for generations - violently manifests and massacres his pursuers. With his new powers, Jackie gradually dismantles Paulie's drug and money laundering operations. Condemned: Criminal Origins[a] is a first-person survival horror video game developed by Monolith Productions and published by Sega. It was released worldwide in 2005 on the Xbox 360, with a Microsoft Windows version released in 2006. With the developer citing films such as The Silence of the Lambs, Seven, and Saw as inspiration, the game places an emphasis on melee combat and puzzle solving, including searching for fingerprints and gathering evidence. Upon release, Condemned was met with moderate-to-good reviews by players and critics. Many reviewers cited its storyline and lack of progression as the game's biggest faults, while its solid controls and fresh approach to horror were praised. A sequel, Condemned 2: Bloodshot, was released in 2008 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. There was also an internet prequel and a planned film adaptation to expand the Condemned franchise. ********************************************************************** Grab a beer, a slice of pizza and come hang out with us. What was originally supposed to be this week's episode because Fred wasn't going to make the live show, is now faithfully back to a game club. That's why this show seems to start suddenly, because there was a pre-show explaining the circumstance that no longer exists. Either way, Fred and Jam tackle Sega and Monolith's launch window 360 title about fighting bums, investigating crimes, and going insane.
