In 1996, a summer blockbuster movie blew into theaters and knocked everybody off their feet. That movie was “Twister” and starred Helen Hunt and the late, great Bill Paxton. Now 28 years later, we get a long awaited follow-up to that tornado-terrific, earth-moving box office hit, called “Twisters.” Now instead of Bill Paxton, the rapidly rising star Glen Powell tries to fill his boots. He plays Tyler, who calls himself a tornado wrangler who likes to go viral and peddle his merch. One of his phrases, as he tries to entertain his fans, is “You don't face your fears. You ride em'!” We also have Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate, who was a storm chaser until tragedy struck, and so now she stays out of the field. Just so the plot can move forward, she's coaxed back out into the wild, windy west to help some other storm chasers potentially save lives from a mass of tornadoes. All these characters bring their impressive and intricate modern day technology to this world of tornadoes, but no amount of tech will save you from the deadly, disastrously massive force of a tornado and the debris that it turns into lethal projectiles. Will Tyler take it too far in finding that rush? Can Kate do anything to give the people in the path of these fatal forces of nature a chance? Is it worth finding out? Check out this episode to find out! “Twisters” also stars Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sasha Lane, Daryl McCormack, Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani, David Corenswet, Tunde Adebimpe, Katy O'Brian, David Born, Paul Scheer, Laura Poe, Austin Bullock and Stephen Oyoung. Hey everyone, Twisters - the "sequel" to one of the quintessential summer blockbusters of all-time, Twister - has hit theaters... a week early here!
Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway set to battle dinosaurs while action stars Will Smith and Sly Stallone line up new film projects.
A new thriller series on Showtime is based on the notorious Magdalene laundries in Ireland, schools for "wayward girls" and the trauma they endured. Actor Daryl McCormack plays a Dublin detective working the case of a murdered priest in a small town, opposite Ruth Wilson. We'll speak to the BAFTA nominated actor as well as the creator and showrunner Joe Murtagh about "The Woman in the Wall."

With the return of the fourth and final season of Sex Education John Fardy talks to its creator Laurie Nunn about the boundary-pushing and very funny comedy series . País Reino Unido Dirección Sophie Hyde Guion Katy Brand Reparto Emma Thompson, Daryl McCormack, Isabella Laughland Música Stephen Rennicks Fotografía Bryan Mason Sinopsis Nancy Stokes, una maestra de escuela jubilada, anhela algo de aventura y sexo. Buen sexo.
There's nothing like a little light-hearted solicitation to relive your lost youth and discover how amazing sex could be since your, now deceased, boring husband "missionary Martin" never gave it propa'. So, in walks gigolo Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack) to guide Nancy (Emma Thompson) in her search for the ever-elusive big "O". Just chuck some fit bloke some cash and it'll solve all your problems basically. Some procrastination here, some procrastination there, and that's what Emma Thompson as Nancy does in the sex comedy drama ("sexadramady"?) penned by Katy Brand and directed by Sophie Hyde. It's a weird one. At the heart of the film is a sex-positive message that has some genuinely touching moments from the inimitable Ms. Thompson. But when you come down to it, it misses the mark in giving Mr. McCormack enough meat to play with. You'll get what we mean when you give it a listen. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE is currently streaming on HULU in the US.

"The Lesson" had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it earned solid reviews for its strong performances from Daryl McCormack, Richard E. Grant, and Julie Delpy. Both McCormack and Grant were kind enough to spend a few minutes talking with us about their roles in the film, the importance of authorship, their feelings on the WGA strike, and more. Please take a moment to listen to the interviews below and check out the film, which is now playing in theaters from Bleecker Street. Thank you, and enjoy! We start this week by reviewing Mel Eslyn's post-apocalyptic dramedy BIOSPHERE (2:01), which stars Sterling K. Brown and Mark Duplass (who also co-writes) as the last two men on Earth, who learn that they must adapt, quite literally, to save humanity. It has great performances and surprising themes, but we don't all agree on how well it tackles those themes. Next, we cover Alice Troughton's thriller, THE LESSON (25:10), which stars Daryl McCormack as a young writer who tutors the son of a famous author (Richard E. Grant) and discovers a dark web of family secrets. We agree that the film's acting is top-notch, but for two of us, it isn't thrilling or surprising in any way. And in this week's Patreon exclusive audio, we talk about Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick's technological thriller MISSING, a follow-up to 2018's SEARCHING (which we discussed as our AAPI Heritage Month poll winner on a recent Patreon bonus episode!
We look at all the news surrounding Dune Part Two, delve into the paltry reviews for Marvel's Secret Invasion, reveal Barbie director Greta Gerwig's next gig, and ponder the announced “adult-focused” Barney the purple dinosaur movie. Our “Mojo Chats of the Week” feature actor Daryl McCormack on his role in The Lesson, and Graham Parkhurst about his turn in Netflix's Glamorous. We then go “Beyond the List” with a rundown of underestimated superheroes!
Actor and filmmaker Vanessa Matsui (Ghost BFF, The Girlfriend Experience, The Hot Zone, Letterkenny) celebrates the Toronto premiere of her directorial debut, Midnight at the Paradise, by digging into the remarkable chemistry of Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack in Sophie Hyde's Good Luck to You, Leo Grande. Your genial host Norm Wilner apologizes for calling Daryl "David" that one time.Midnight at the Paradise premieres this Friday, April 21st, at the Paradise Cinema (of course). Tickets are still available right here.
Director Sophie Hyde is making waves in the industry – a changemaker in her field. Her film Good Luck To You, Leo Grande challenged ageist stereotypes and assumptions on the big screen. WFT Chair Dr Susan Liddy spoke with Sophie about her film, as well as her impressive career to date, crossing hemispheres in the process. This talk has been made possible with the generous support of the BAI. Sophie Hyde is a founding member of film collective Closer Productions. She lives and works on the lands of the Kaurna people in South Australia and makes provocative and intimate films and television. Her latest film, Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, starring Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack, premiered at both Sundance Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival to rave reviews and will be released in 2022. Her debut feature drama 52 Tuesdays (director/producer/co-writer) won the Directing Award at Sundance and the Crystal Bear at Berlin. She directed and produced feature comedy Animals, which premiered at Sundance 2019. She created, produced and directed episodic series F*!#ing Adelaide for ABC Australia, and the 4 x 1-hour series The Hunting for SBS. Sophie's feature documentaries include Life in Movement (producer /co-director), Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure (producer), Sam Klemke's Time Machine (producer) and In My Blood It Runs (Producer).
As the BAFTA winners are revealed on Sunday 19th at a ceremony hosted by Richard E. Grant and Alison Hammond, we talk to the Chair of BAFTA, and a producer himself, Krish Majumdar. He runs us through the process of picking winners – quite a task when 214 were nominated for the Best Film Award alone. Krish gives us the lowdown on the top nominations from ‘All Quite on the Western Front', with an astonishing 14 nominations, to ‘The Banshees of Ineshirin', ‘Living', ‘Tár', ‘Aftersun' and many more. He also tells us about the prestigious EE Rising Star Award, celebrating its 18th year, and the only award at BAFTAs voted for by the British public. The nominees this year are Naomi Ackie, Sheila Atim, Aimee Lou Wood, Emma Mackey and Daryl McCormack. Krish's enthusiasm for cinema as a treasured part of our culture is infectious. Anyone who likes movies or wants to feel inspired about what to see next should listen in and then head straight out to the cinema.
Daryl McCormack is having a very good moment right now: nominated for two Baftas, recently seen in a critically-acclaimed Apple TV+ show Bad Sisters, and happily talking about his new best friendship with Emma Thompson, his co-star in sexual discovery comedy-drama Good Luck To You, Leo Grande. Charming and chatty and just generally a tip-top human being, Daryl nattered away with Ali over magic of the internet earlier this week, and here is the double pizza-fuelled result. That'll make just a touch more sense once you've listened, by the way. Hopefully.

Welcome back to Get Your Binge On! After taking a much needed mental health break and after soaking up a month of family time- I'm back with a brand new episode. Not only that, but I've refreshed the Get Your Binge On podcast brand and I'm eager to hear your thoughts on it. The first part of the episode I go into how 2023 will bring a new flavor of the podcast, and then I'm bringing you a feature episode on the film Good Luck to You, Leo Grande. This film follows Nancy Stokes, a retired school teacher, who is yearning for some adventure, and some sex. She has a plan, which involves hiring a young sex worker named Leo Grande. This 2022 film has been flying under the radar, and I discovered it through Emma Thompson's(who plays Nancy) many interviews surrounding her role and the taboo culture around female pleasure. This film also stars Daryl McCormack who is extremely talented, and quite a looker too! I hope you enjoy this episode and learning all about the movie that warmed my heart and soul and really opens up the discussion around sex and the human need for pleasure. Enjoy!!

This week on End Credits, we're not going anywhere. There aren't too many field trips on this show, so staying in one place is not that unusual, but there is something unusual about the movies not taking us too far beyond the same four walls. Our review this week, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande is one of those, and we will also talk about other movies that never go anywhere. This Wednesday, September 28, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Tim Phillips will discuss: Room for One. Considering how expansive the big screen can be, there are a lot of movies - and great movies at that - which are set almost exclusively in one location. Since Good Luck to You, Leo Grande is also a movie that's pretty much set in one location, we're going to dedicate the first part of our show to other movies set in one place, from a Hitchcock drama about the perfect murder, to a supernatural attack on a cabin in the woods. REVIEW: Good Luck to You, Leo Grande (2022). A retired widow who's never had an orgasm goes into a hotel room with a sex worker... Sounds like a joke, and make no mistake, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande is a comedy, but it's got a little more on its mind than sex and laughing about sex. Emma Thompson plays the widow, and Daryl McCormack plays the titular sex worker in this one room-set movie that asks some deep questions about romance, sex, pleasure, relationships, body positivity, and regret. And yes, it's also very funny too. We'll tell you about it. End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.

Hi Smooches! We are recapping “Good Luck To You, Leo Grande,” a movie on Hulu starring Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack as a retired schoolteacher who desperately needs her back blown out, and the escort who is up for the challenge. It's earnest, intimate, and, spoiler alert, not a romance because there is no HEA with the couple together. We still think this is worth your time, however, so spoilers ahead. Sometimes what you need is a deeper connection, some bedroom therapy, a sexual experience full of healing. And sometimes that means going to the experts — at least those skillfully played by actors. I'm joined by friend of the podcast Diana and former sex worker John S. to help break down fantasy vs. reality and explore these fictional journeys to sexual fulfillment. https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comI think anyone over a certain age who still desires healthy sexual experiences will feel the bittersweet emotional journey of Good Luck to You, Leo Grande right down to their soul. It's an intimate chamber piece that packs a quiet emotional punch. The incredible performances by Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack give this movie its emotional force. It's hard to describe the funny, touching and uplifting emotional tone of The Sessions but there isn't a drop of pity to be found anywhere. The performances byJohn Hawkes, Helen Hunt and William H Macy aren't showy but they're exceptional."Sexual surrogacy is a therapeutic practice designed to help a person become more comfortable with sex, their body, and/or the emotional and physical skills they need for intimacy." Sounds like a lot of us could use that kind of therapy. The market for male sex services has tripled in the last five years, according to one study. If my reaction is anything to go by, I'm thinking Leo Grande might now increase those numbers.“It turns into a relationship,” a male escort says, “even if it's only for one night.” Mmmmmm. Stacy and Nicole discuss Good Luck to You, Leo Grande and the complications of sex work. We were both disarmed by Daryl McCormack's performance and appreciated the lighting and art direction. We discuss sex tourism for women and the how sex work fits into caring professions in general. Stacy recommends The Girlfriend Experience and Nicole recommends The Sessions.

In today's episode we're discussing Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, now streaming on Hulu. Directed by Sophie Hyde and written by Katy Brand, the story follows an older woman, Nancy (Emma Thompson), who hires a young male sex worker, Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack), with the hope of finally exploring all the desires she was never allowed to act on with her late husband -- her one and only sexual partner. ** After we discuss how Kate worries that she could become Nancy and Carinn declares she is Leo, we deep dive into our favorite scenes. These scenes evoke the idea of women taking what they want, mommy issues, letting go, acceptance of one's body and the power of releasing self-judgment. There is also a lot of discussion of all the surprising times we each cried while watching! (11:57) *What She Said, Sophie Hyde and Katy Brand. We share our favorite first person quotes of the talented director and writer of this sex-positive and positively sexy movie! (64:33) ** Who Won and Takeaways. We discuss the power of Daryl McCormack's eyes (aka Leo Grande) and the power of pleasure, intimacy and vulnerability. (71:58)
On today's episode of Who's There, our weekly call-in show, we talk about Shawn Mendes's latest project (which somehow involves Constance Wu and the Dear Evan Hanson boys) before playing your calls about Ice Cube and James Gandolfini's sons, Diane Warren's honorary Oscar, the co-star of Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, the co-star of Bros, whether or not millennials (and up) should know who Bazzi is, Three In Greece, and various Tonys, Tonis, and Tonés. PopaHALLics #78 "Both Sides Now"Steve and Kate review two new movies which look at love from both sides now—at different ages, anyway: The messy 20s (Cooper Raiff's "Cha Cha Real Smooth") and the adventurous 60s ("Good Luck to You, Leo Grande," starring Emma Thompson). We also discuss sitcom "Rutherford Falls," Harry Style's latest record, and several spooky books.Streaming:"Cha Cha Real Smooth," theaters and Apple TV. In this Sundance favorite written, directed by and starring Raiff, 25, a college grad tries to figure out adulthood while beginning a friendship with a young mom (Dakota Johnson) and her autistic daughter."Good Luck to You, Leo Grande," Hulu. In this female-written and -directed gem, Thompson plays a retired widow who hires a sex worker (Daryl McCormack) to experience pleasurable sex for the first time in her life."Rutherford Falls," Peacock. The relationship of life-long friends is tested when a desire to preserve white history in a small town clashes with indigenous interests. Ed Helms and Michael Schur ("Parks and Recreation", "The Good Place") helped create this sitcom, which has Native Americans on both sides of the camera."Peaky Blinders," Netflix and BBC. The saga of Irish gangsters in Birmingham, England, returns for its sixth and final season.Books:"Girl in the Walls," by A.J. Gnuse. A young orphan lives in the hidden spaces of her former family home in this gripping coming-of-age story."The Residence," by Andrew Pyper. In this chilling horror novel inspired by real people and events, a First Lady holds a seance to try to contact her dead son ... and invites a demon into the White House."The Demonologist," by Andrew Pyper. An academic expert on "Paradise Lost" races against the clock to get his daughter back from The Other Side in this horror thriller.Music:"Harry's House." Kate says Harry Styles "Is messing around, in a good way" on this new release, a departure from his recent retro rock. Hear it here.
It's been a while since we did a "counter programming" episode, covering the three movies released this weekend outside of theaters. We opened the show with a topical discussion about Lightyear's weak box office weekend and the overall direction of streaming releases as alternatives to theatrical event movies. Then we slide into our discussion of Spiderhead, a sci-fi thriller starring Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller, which is now streaming on Netflix. After that, we head over to Apple TV+ for our full review of Cha Cha Real Smooth, which stars Cooper Raiff and Dakota Johnson. And we finish things out with Good Luck to You Leo Grande, which is now on Hulu and stars Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack. Good Luck To You, Leo Grande is a fantastic new British movie that sees Dame Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack spend a lot of time together in a hotel room. So that's exactly what we made them do again this week, with Ella Kemp (making her Empire Podcast debut) talking to the stars of Sophie Hyde's movie about an ageing woman who, having had very few positive sexual experiences, hires a sex worker (McCormack), and complications ensue. The film is frank, funny, and insightful, and their chat with Ella is similarly so, featuring Dame Emma's reminiscences about The Tall Guy, and one of the best answers we've ever had on the podcast. Hint: it features an Oscar. Then, in the podbooth this week, Chris Hewitt is joined by James Dyer and, for the first time in ages, Helen O'Hara, and truth be told, being reunited makes them go a little doolally. So, in-between answering a listener question about the film sets they've accidentally stumbled upon in a non-professional capacity, they talk about Helen's Wikipedia page, and Chris and Helen educate James about the history of the Giant's Causeway. They also discuss actual films at some point, including the week's movie news, including Lady Gaga possibly joining Joker 2 (which may be a musical???), the announcement of the Paddington 3 director, and their feelings about the official title of Knives Out 2: Benoit Boogaloo. In the reviews section, they run their eye over Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, Spiderhead, Everything Went Fine, and Last Seen Alive, and Sophie Butcher goes to infinity and beyond to help everyone get to grips with Pixar's Lightyear. Enjoy. TIMESTAMPS! (timings are approx.) "Good Luck To You, Leo Grande" premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and was later picked up by Searchlight Pictures, who released it this weekend on Hulu. The film stars Emma Thompson in one of her best roles to date as Nancy, a middle-aged retired woman looking for good sex at this point in her life, and Daryl McCormack in a breakout turn as her hired young sex-worker, Leo Grande. Both of them deliver terrific performances and are aided by the thoughtful writing from screenwriter Katy Brand. The sex-positive story carefully outlines both characters with a high level of detail, providing an insightful analysis of sex and the relationship the two share with one another. Katy was kind enough to talk with us about her screenplay, the characters, the hotel setting they share, and more. Please be sure to check out the film, now streaming on Hulu, and have a listen down below and enjoy. Thank you! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Oscar-winner Dame Emma Thompson has graced our screens for four decades. As an actor, she's played all kinds of women, from her role as Elinor Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility to her heart-breaking Karen in Christmas favourite, Love Actually. But now she's taking on a different kind of acting role. Good Luck To You, Leo Grande tells the story of Nancy Stokes, a 55-year-old widow (played by Thompson) who decides to hire a significantly younger male sex worker, played by the Irish actor, Daryl McCormack. She joins Emma to talk about women's pleasure, full frontal nudity and the #MeToo movement. If you're a woman and you have a baby it's going to cost you £70,000 in lost earnings over the next decade. That's according to new research from the Social Market Foundation which is setting up a cross party commission to tackle the spiralling costs of childcare. Emma talks to Director of the Foundation James Kirkup about its findings, and one woman working as a senior mental health nurse who says she takes home just £100 per month after childcare costs. We also get the view of the Early Years Alliance, a charity that represents child minders, nurseries and pre-schools. Since 2009, the artist Kirstie MacLeod has been working on The Red Dress project. Pieces of this burgundy silk dress have travelled around the world to be embroidered by women, many of whom have been marginalised or live in poverty. It's given them a platform and an opportunity to share their story and identity. After 13 years, 46 countries and 343 embroiderers, the dress is finally complete. Kirstie joins Emma to describe the finished dress. Presenter: Emma Barnett Producer: Alison Carter Photo credit: Nick Wall © GoodLuckLeoLimited
