In this special DOUBLE FEATURE episode we talk weirdos, friendships, and low budget cult classics .  First up Mike and Matt join to give their thoughts on the film that gave us Jon Heder's breakout lead role.  It's the 2004 coming of age comedy, 'Napoleon Dynamite'  (04:00)  Then after a quick trip to the lobby (32:50) we head back into the theater to take it down a notch and look at Emily Skeggs and Kyle Gallner in 2020's unabashedly punk-rock, dark comedy 'Dinner In America' (35:35).email: openmicmovies@latertaterfilms.comwebsite: openmicmovies.buzzsprout.cominstagram: @latertaterfilms

Ian sits down with writer/director Adam Rehmeier and stars Kyle Gallner and Emily Skeggs to talk about their cult hit comedy, Dinner in America!Gallner stars as Simon, a troubled and struggling punk rocker who will do anything to break out of his small Michigan town (and avoid the cops). He meets Patty (Skeggs), a twenty-year-old pet store worker whom everyone writes off as mentally challenged (the movie is not so precise with its words). Together, they embark on a spree of awakening, revenge, and even...*gulp* love in this twisted romp that recalls Heathers, Pump Up the Volume, and Welcome to the Dollhouse! The film's 2020 release was knee-capped by a global pandemic, but has recently found new life through social media. In this spoiler-lite round table, the cast and creator talk about bringing their in-your-face suburban-malaise fable to life; bringing out the actors' wild side to play characters very different from themselves; and how fandom has finally caught up with Dinner in America!Plus: We're pretty sure Emily performs magic at the end! Oh, and before we forget: Adam, Emily, and Kyle will be in Chicago this Monday at the Windy City's historic Music Box Theatre for exclusive screenings and Q&A's of the film. "Do you think I'm weird?"Four years ago, the hosts of this podcast fell in love with a movie called DINNER IN AMERICA, and the underground sensation has finally gotten the attention it has always deserved. In honor of this cult hit's evolution into an indie phenomenon, The Wives Colangelo are finally talking about their favorite movie (as a couple), waxing poetic about being Midwest trash, praising Kyle Gallner and Emily Skeggs' phenomenal performances, and maybe crying a little bit about how this movie changed their lives.----Become a Patron!www.patreon.com/thisendsatprom----Catch Dinner in America in theaters!https://www.dinnerinamerica.com/tickets/----Follow the Show: @ThisEndsAtPromBJ Colangelo: @BJColangeloHarmony Colangelo: @Veloci_trap_tor / @HarmonyColangelo on Bluesky----------Logo Design: Haley Doodles @HaleyDoodleDoTheme Song: The Sonder Bombs 'Title': https://thesonderbombs.bandcamp.com/

This pod answers questions like: What's the latest about Jax and Brittany? Who were the SLC newbies again and what are cast members fighting about online? Are any new movies worth watching? In anti-spoiler fashion, overarching themes and intro details of movies are shared, but major plotlines are spared. You'll get an idea of why I liked Dinner In America without knowing everything that makes this indie movie about a punk rock band and a young woman struggling to be herself, a cult classic in the making. Likewise, you'll get a snapshot of the characters and direction of Netflix's Rebel Ridge without feeling like you've already seen it. For many, M. Night Shyamalan lost any goodwill built from his early career a long time ago. We talk about his latest movie and how even though it has an intriguing trailer and awesome poster, it is not enough to bring in some people. This leads to a talk of the awful ending of Old (SPOILER WARNING) and why Knock at the Cabin is destined for the same fate.Another director whose career has been spent polarizing audiences is James Cameron. We discuss the shocking success of Avatar: The Way of the Water (we know, it should not be a surprise) and why it bothers us. Will we finally break down and watch the three hour spectacle?Dinner in America  began its festival run two years ago. At the time, it was meant with critical praise. Audiences also loved the story about two outsiders who meet each other. Despite the all around goodwill, the indie film did not find a streaming home or get a theatrical release.Until this year. But why do we think you should check it out? Set in Midwest America in the 1990s, the movie is about a punk rocker who meets a socially awkward girl. Things start off rocky until the two inevitably find they have a lot more in common than they thought. It is entirely predictable, but two of the most lovable characters of  the year make this a must watch. The Menu is one of the darkest, funniest, and best acted films of the year. It targets a niche crowd, but has been able to surpass expectations thanks to strong word of mouth. We talk about its great story and atmosphere, its use of its ensemble cast, and its in your face writings.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Starring Kyle Gallner, Emily Skeggs, Lea Thompson, Hannah Marks, Pat Healy, Griffin Gluck and Mary Lynn Rajskub. How is the world wrong about Dinner In America. From Bryan: How did this not come across my radar sooner? It took my wife getting it as a surprise gift from a friend for us to hear about it. Instant love! This movie is wonderful. Why is it so hard to find? Everyone needs to see it. At first glance it seems an aggressive exercise in button pushing, but it is in fact an hilarious punk rock romantic comedy. SHAKMA: Volles Programm, volles Engagement. Also COME ON, COME ON, wenn Tino Hahn, Andre Hecker und Schröck per AMBULANCE zur Schule von JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 brettern und noch einen Junggesellinnenabschied alias JGA: JASMIN. GINA. ANNA mitnehmen, um anschließend mit THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE vom TV-Glauben abzufallen. In diesem Sinne: "After all, tomorrow is another day!"

In the pantheon of great rock and roll front men —right up there with Iggy Pop and Nick Cave— sits the mighty David Yow. Of course, he'd find the idea nothing less than ridiculous — but that's just part of what makes David the sweet and unassuming legend that he is. It was our pleasure to talk to him about his bands The Jesus Lizard and Scratch Acid, acting in the new Toxic Avenger movie, the Austin punk scene of the ‘80s, AC/DC vs. The Knack, “Dinner In America”, the time he almost got murdered by R. Kelly's crew, Andy Gill, Flipper, “Power Of The Dog” spoilers, Lil' Bub, and the time David gave Scott a doomed piggyback ride. ALSO — Gabe really, really likes shakes. Welcome to the At The Flicks review show, no film is too good or too bad for this motley team. Although, it is safe to say never had a show where the team disagree as strongly as they do here about some of the films discussed. Two of the reviews are the subject of hot debate, as is one of those under discussion for Darren's Dash. In fact, Jeff, hated one film so much, it has forced him to change his whole philosophy on the world of movies! Needless to say, Neil takes the opposite position to Jeff (as always). Although, we do find out in this episode that Neil has a prejudice. A prejudice so bad, the rest of the team have to shame him. Just in case you think Graham is quiet this episode, then wait until he discusses the physics deployed in one of the films we talk about. And just what are these films up for review this month? Luca : The latest from Pixar. Is it any good and why was it just sent to straight to streaming? Black Widow : A new Marvel to review – Jeff's wish comes true. In The Heights : A new musical – Graham, the musical hater's wish comes true. America : The Motion Picture : The latest animation from Netflix. This review / rant has to be heard to be believed. F9 : The Fast Saga : The latest in the series and more split opinion. And an added film this month Brighton : In show 172 we interviewed Brighton writer / director Stephen Cookson. Now the team (with one exception) has seen it. Our view? You will have to listen to find out. After that we have the legendary Darren's Dash, which this month includes Freaky, Dinner In America and The Tomorrow War. I bet you can't work out which one led to a violent disagreement within the team. With all this split opinion I guess it is time for you, our listeners, to pick a side. Is it Team Jeff or Team All The Rest? You decide. Please let us know which side you pick, we would love to hear from you. Until next time, see you At The Flicks.

In this episode, we discuss the Sundance selected, Dinner in America, a 2020 punk rock "dram-edy" film from writer/director Adam Rehmeier. Dinner in America is the story of an on-the-lam punk rocker and a young woman obsessed with his band unexpectedly fall in love and go on an epic journey together through America's decaying Midwestern suburbs. Recently released on the Arrow streaming service in the UK, our very own Dylan, who worked on the film as a 2nd AC, gives us a bit of a behind-the-scenes look, we discuss the punk rock style injected into the movie with the characters and music, and we praise the onscreen chemistry between the leads Patty(Emily Skeggs) and SImon (Kyle Gallner).

Dinner in America is a surreal punk-rock comedy filled with gleeful anarchy directed by Adam Rehmeier and shot by cinematographer Jean-Phillipe Bernier. It took awhile to cast the characters Simon and Patty, played by actors Kyle Gallner and Emily Skeggs, who are two oddball loners looking to take down all the a**holes in their “normal” Midwestern town. Dinner in America premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and has yet to receive a release date. http://camnoir.com/ep65/ Adam Rehmeier: Twitter @AdamRehmeier Jean-Phillipe Bernier: Instagram @jpbernierdop LIKE AND FOLLOW US, send fan mail or suggestions! In a dreary Midwestern suburb, aggro punk rocker Simon (Kyle Gallner) finds himself on the run again after a bout of arson and a close call with the police. A chance encounter with the eccentric Patty (Emily Skeggs) provides him a place to hide, though she fails to realize that her new friend is the anonymous lead singer of her favorite band. As the two embark on a series of misadventures, they realize they have a lot more in common than they first expected.Skeggs and Gallner are the perfect unconventional couple in this off-the-wall, daring comedy boosted by a generous helping of absurdity and instantly quotable dialogue. Skeggs's vulnerability and unassuming charm seamlessly offset Gallner's no-nonsense recklessness and unwavering scowl. Without compromising his surprisingly sweet touch, writer-director Adam Rehmeier explores how two misfits find each other through music and chaos. Set to the beat of brilliant original songs, Dinner in America is an empowering and wild ride through the places and people of suburbia—in all their peculiar forms.
