The 79th film in the A24 catalog is Gloria Bell starring Julianne Moore. Gloria Bell is a remake from a 2013 Chilean film named "Gloria," and is about a middle-aged divorcee at a transition period in her life. Gloria meets a man named Arnold (portrayed by John Turturro) at a modern 70s disco bar. This new love interest seems to have promise, before Gloria starts noticing his kids control his life, while Gloria is navigating her own relationship with her kids. Directed by Sebastian Lelio, the same filmmaker who directed the Chilean movie, the A24 rocks crew debates if the film is "too slice of life" and if the remake was worth making only 6 years later.

Florence Pugh (“Don’t Worry Darling”) stars in the Irish period drama “The Wonder,” from acclaimed director Sebastian Lelio (“A Fantastic Woman”). The post Take Two: “The Wonder” (R) appeared first on KKFI.
Thrilled to have another director / composer combo on Soundtracking this week in the shape of Sebastian Lelio and Matthew Herbert, who have joined forces on the Chilean writer/director's latest film, The Wonder. Starring Florence Pugh, it follows an English nurse sent to an Irish village in the 1860s to observe a young girl who is seemingly able to survive without eating. It's an amazing experience, narratively, visually and sonically, so we highly recommnend you dive in.
First up, take a listen as writer/director MICHAEL KOCH talks about A PIECE OF SKY, Switzerland's submission for the 95th Academy Awards as Best Foreign Language Film. A quiet, reflective, and thoughtful film that tacitly explores the relationship between man and nature, life and death, A PIECE OF SKY is one of the most emotionally beautiful films of the year; not to mention that stunning multi-season imagery of the Swiss mountains. Set in a remote alpine village, (Michèle Brand) works both as a waitress and mail carrier to support her young daughter. She has fallen deeply in love with the village newcomer, Marco (Simon Wisler), a strong and silent farmhand from the lowlands. But soon after their wedding, Marco is diagnosed with a brain tumor. As the seasons change, his behavior grows increasingly erratic, leading up to a severe transgression that threatens to tear the young family apart. Then listen to writer/director SEBASTIAN LELIO discuss the award-worthy film THE WONDER. Directed by Lelio and co-written with Alice Birch based on Emma Donoghue's acclaimed novel and inspired by the 19th-century phenomenon of the "fasting girls", THE WONDER is a stunning psychological thriller set in The Irish Midlands in 1862 where eleven-year-old Anna has stopped eating for months but remains miraculously alive and in relatively well state. Tourists have flocked to the small village to bear witness to Anna, believing her to be a miracle destined for sainthood. In an effort to discover the truth, the village council brings in English nurse Lib Wright to observe Anna and report her findings. Is this a miracle or is there something else afoot? http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

The Empire Podcast has more hat-tricks than Mo Salah, and this week is no exception, as we welcome three batches of tremendous guests. First, Paul Mescal, star of the wonderful new drama Aftersun, goes it alone, as he tells Ella Kemp that he's not as serious as the movies and TV shows he makes, no honest. Then, Chris Hewitt is the Host Of Christmas Present as he chats to Spirited stars Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer about the best swag they've ever got from a movie. And finally, Amon Warmann chats to Florence Pugh and Sebastian Lelio, star and director respectively of stunning new Netflix drama, The Wonder. And as well as all of that, there's an actual podcast in there too as, with Chris stricken with lurgy, Helen O'Hara invites Amon and regular pod debutant, Sam Clements, into the virtual podbooth for a fun pod in which they discuss the fictional movie companies they'd buy and tank if they could; the week's movie news (up to Thursday night that is); and review Disenchanted, Aftersun, Confess, Fletch, Bardo, Spirited, and more in another jam-packed reviews section. Oh, and a special guest host drops in for a short while too. Enjoy! (And please accept our apologies for the delay in it going up...)
John Turturro is an acting legend. He is an actor that many directors like to work with, including both Spike Lee and the Coen Brothers. This year he is up for an Emmy for his role as Irving in the mind-bending sci-fi office drama Severance. When he last joined Bullseye, he had just starred in the movie Gloria Bell, directed by the Chilean filmmaker Sebastian Lelio. Turturro shared how he nailed down the subtleties and complexities of playing a character that might seem like an average joe in Gloria Bell. Plus, he also shared stories from his time working on some true classics like Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing and the Coen Brothers' The Big Lebowski.

Natasha Braier is known for her eye-popping, bold visuals and enjoys shooting in an experimental style. She seeks out directors with a strong voice who are willing to take artistic risks such as Nicolas Winding Refn on Neon Demon, Sebastian Lelio on Gloria Bell, and Alma Har'el on the upcoming Honey Boy.
Edith's guest on the latest episode of Soundtracking is a composer who has been pushing sonic boundaries for three decades. As well as releasing numerous albums and EPs under various monikers, Matthew Herbert has also scored a diverse range of films, including three for Chilean director Sebastian Lelio. The word is overused, but we reckon he's a true visionary. He now has television credits to his name too, with his latest project Temple currently available on Sky and Now TV. As always, you'll hear plenty of Matthew's work throughout the conversation.

Earlier this year, actor Steven Yeun joined us to talk about his role in the Oscar-shortlisted Korean film, ‘Burning.' We talked about other topics too, and this week, for the first time, we're airing that part of the conversation. Yeun tells us about getting his start in the industry and what he's looking for in future roles. Plus, a visit to the set of Sebastian Lelio's new film ‘Gloria Bell.'
John Turturro's an acting legend. Lots of directors have actors they like to work with. Turturro's a favorite of both Spike Lee and the Coen Brothers. Starting from "Do The Right Thing," he's appeared in nine of Spike's films, four from the Coens. He can play tough. Devious. Vulnerable. Brooding. Weird. He's never not himself, but no two roles are ever the same. He talks with Jesse about his latest film, "Gloria Bell." It's directed by the Chilean filmmaker Sebastian Lelio, kind of an English language remake of his breakthrough 2013 film "Gloria." It's a story about relationship from two people in late middle age. Its messy, nuanced, and the performances from both Turturro and Moore... just keep you transfixed.

In this episode we're talking about Sebastian Lelio's follow up to 'A Fantastic Woman', the acclaimed drama 'Disobedience', and Alfonso Cuaron's 'Roma' which sees the director of 'Gravity' revisit monochromatic memories of his childhood. In the same year as winning the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film with A Fantastic Woman, Sebastián Lelio delivers the English-language Disobedience, starring Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams. When her estranged rabbi father suddenly passes away, Ronit (played by Oscar-winner and co-producer Rachel Weisz) returns from New York to the north London Orthodox Jewish community that rejected her years previously after a scandalous transgression. The most personal project to date from Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Roma follows Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a young domestic worker for a family in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City. Delivering an artful love letter to the women who raised him, Cuarón draws on his own childhood to create a vivid and emotional portrait of domestic strife and social hierarchy amidst political turmoil of the 1970s.Discussing the films this week are Kelly Powell, Sam Howlett and Jake Cunningham.Follow the team on Twitter:@ks_powell - Kelly@jakehcunningham - Jake@SamHowlett_1 - SamProduced and edited by Jake CunninghamMusic from incompetech.com Hosted on Acast. Kris follows up with DEADPOOL 2 (11:14), a movie that Kris feels differently about from most critics. Then Dave and Evan go into DISOBEDIENCE (26:19), director Sebastian Lelio’s English-language debut starring Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams, and Alessandro Nivola, about, as New Order might say, a bizarre love triangle. Finally, Evan and Dave get into SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY (36:07). Who liked it? Who didn’t? By the way, there are tangents aplenty in this episode.

*The Best 1980s Sci-Fi Junk Never * Sandwiching two slices of groundbreaking queer cinema in between the bread of gritty revenge drama, this week's show truly has something for everyone. Maybe he's just able to relate to the parched atmosphere, but Graham is very taken with Warwick Thornton's outback western "Sweet Country", while Aidan is keen to make a song and dance about Sebastian Lelio's "A Fantastic Woman". We then have two milestones as Sarah covers the first mainstream LGBT teen film - Greg Berlanti's "Love, Simon", after which Rob rounds off our B-Sides show with "You Were Never Really Here" - a new film by Lynne Ramsay that we've had to wait for, for quite a while. We talk saliva, showering with the door open, taking calls on the toilet, and all things sexy. Accents are tough, we don’t go easy on them. Andrew reviews Kennedy biopic, ‘Chappaquiddick’ (Jason Clarke, Ed Helms, Kate Mara). We imbibe.
