This episode contains: It's an all new episode featuring your usual hosts! We discuss reading the “fine print” and service agreements, which reminds us of the story about Disney using it's Disney Plus agreement to defendant again a wrongful death claim that occurred at one of their parks. Ben went to San Deigo for a “not a bachelor party.” Ben is still tired from the trip. Devon has done nothing. Steven's dog, Charlie, has IVDD (Intervertebral disc disease for dogs) and has to be contained for three weeks, hopefully helping him regain the use of his hind legs. This is common in “long dogs.” This Week in Space: 'Spiders on Mars' fully awakened on Earth for 1st time — and scientists are shrieking with joy. Researchers have recreated the bizarre spider-like features seen on the surface of Mars for the first time ever. The breakthrough could help unravel further mysteries surrounding the static Martian arachnids. https://www.livescience.com/space/mars/spiders-on-mars-fully-awakened-on-earth-for-1st-time-and-scientists-are-shrieking-with-joy Book Review: Steven read Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman. He is very excited to talk about this book. He listened to it rather than read it. Even Steven's wife loved the book. This is part of the new LitRPG genre. Ready Player One is an example of this genre. Dungeon Crawler Carl scratched all of Steven's itches. He describes the book as Ready Player One meets The Bobiverse meets The Hunger Games. Even non gamers will enjoy this book! It's safe to say Steven LOVED THIS BOOK, HE WANTS TO MARRY IT! https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56791389-dungeon-crawler-carl Book Club: We continue the series with The Pit and the Box, part 2 of The Boy in the Iron Box by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. We would rather talk about anything else than this story. We eventually get the story and agree that there's not much there there. A character finds the titular boy in the box and standard horror stuff ensues. Steven makes a motion to not finish this story. The motion passes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CNYG9SR8 Next week we will be reviewing Mars Gardens in Walkabout Mini Golf. https://www.mightycoconut.com/blog/mars-field-notes Ben then leaves the podcast to work and Steven and Devon talk way too much about politics.

"The Crawling Chaos" is a short story by American author, H. P. Lovecraft, based on a dream once described to him by fellow-author, Winifred V. Jackson, in which the consequences of dabbling with opium were experienced. It was first published in the 1943 collection, Beyond the Wall of Sleep.

In this episode I look at three of Lovecraft's revisions with Winifred Jackson and Anna Helen Crofts ("The Green Meadow", "The Crawling Chaos", and "Poetry and the Gods"). They are all interesting tales. The first two were mostly written by HPL. "Poetry and the Gods" was more of a true revision.

In a little bonus episode in between our explorations of the Cthulhu Mythos, we have a reading of a short piece by HP Lovecraft. A strange little tale, almost a prose poem, in which we first meet the Crawling Chaos, Nyarlathotep!
Hello and welcome to episode 120! This week we discuss two movies... the 2011 film 'Priest' and the SyFy Channel's 'Bigfoot'. This week's Laid to Rest segment wraps up a discussion on scary masks (from episode 112's 'Husk'). Short topics this week include the entertaining documentary 'The New Blood', which introduces some new "up-and-coming" horror movie makers, the 1980's 'Flash Gordon', and 'Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu'. This week's Crawling Chaos segment adresses a more personal topic as Lori shares a letter she recieved. This personal topic grows into a discussion on horror and spiritual faith. The episode wraps up with a short discussion of the awesome actor Bill Oberst Jr., some quotes of his, and his super scary performance in the fun and frightening interactive facebook app... 'Take This Lollipop'. We recommend that EVERYONE visit the website and enjoy some scary fun... http://www.takethislollipop.com/. *** Side note, I failed on the editing of this one, Lori ask me to include 'Planchette' by Cockfight Club at the end of the show I did not. It will however be in the next podcast.*** Priest (2011) PG-13 In this horror-thriller based on the popular comic book series, Paul Bettany plays Priest, a man-of-the-cloth hell-bent on rescuing his niece while taking down a horde of rampaging vampires in the process. With a terrific cast that includes Karl Urban, Maggie Q, Christopher Plummer and Brad Dourif, this is a genre-bending apocalyptic action movie that's every bit as wild and blood-soaked as its source material. In Episode 12 of this series we discussed the new book, ‘Dreaming Thelema of Kenneth Grant and H. P. Lovecraft’. The book features 17 surrealist paintings created as part of the project. It also includes three complete short stories by H. P. Lovecraft: Nyarlathotep, The Crawling Chaos, and The Haunter of the Dark, plus a reconstruction of the Lovecraftian Necronomicon. We depart from the usual lecture style of these talks to read the short stories, The Haunter of the Dark. The story is broadcast in two parts; the second part is given in Episode 14.© Oliver St. John 2016© ‘Endecha’ Prelude in D Minor by Francisco Tarrega performed and recorded by Oliver St. John; ‘Transition (improvisation)’ by Oliver St. John. Episode 74 - When It Comes To Beer, We Lovecraft. Every horror lover knows that you can't swing Cat Of Ulthar in this business without hitting a Lovecraft fan. The influence of H.P. spreads across the genre like a Crawling Chaos. A Whisperer In Darkness, he calls out From Beyond to his legions of followers and draws them nearer to The Temple of his dark genius. Well, slap my tentacles and call me Cthulhu. The Monday Night Heroes return to Shanghai and find themselves threatened by the Crawling Chaos himself.
Nyarlathotep... the crawling chaos... I am the last... I will tell the audient void...I do not recall distinctly when it began, but it was months ago. The general tension was horrible. To a season of political and social upheaval was added a strange and brooding apprehension of hideous physical danger; a danger widespread and all-embracing, such a danger as may be imagined only in the most terrible phantasms of the night... A band of desperate and hardened investigators step forward to battle the forces of the Crawling Chaos one last time. Only a handful even remember the origins of their mission, but now all realize the stakes. Their destiny awaits at Gray Dragon Island. In blood and madness, they will pay just for a chance for the world to see the dawn one more time. Find out who lives and who dies in the last session of the RPPR run of Masks of Nyarlathotep. Thanks for listening.
The campaign goes full circle! Only a few of the original team survived from their initial investigation of a murdered priest, but after a long and harrowing journey, they have returned to the Pearl of the Orient. Now they know what the cult to the Crawling Chaos plans, at least to some degree, but can the heroes find the location of their secret lair? The occult is not the only threat - gangsters, spies, revolutionaries, and corrupt cops also pose a risk. Furthermore, the Yithians have received what they want - without their aid, the investigators are in more danger than ever. Will Shanghai swallow up our stalwart fighters of the unknown? Find out as the last chapter of Masks begins!
Aided by their new Yithian ally, the investigators have cornered the cultists of the Crawling Chaos! Now they must defeat them and possibly rescue the captured prisoners held by the cult. Even if they get past the fanatical cultists, the leader, a brilliant scientist and sorcerer, awaits in the depths of the Great City, tampering with cosmic forces. Is the end of their long struggle? What is the cult's ultimate plan? Find out in this exciting episode!
The ruins of the Great City of Pnaktous await! The investigators have learned that the cult of the Crawling Chaos is excavating the ancient city for reasons unknowable, but to thwart the cult, the heroes will chase them to the ends of the earth. Exploring the depths of this inhuman city is not without its own dangers, aside from the cultists. Strange artifacts, hazardous ruins, and terrifying monsters lurking in the darkness. Perhaps the team will find aid in the most likely of allies though...
The investigators have finally arrived in Australia. They have learned of a mysterious expedition to the interior of the country, but to what end, they do not know. They do know that the Lamplighter cult and their esoteric masters want them to follow the expedition, into the Outback. But before the team journeys into the desert, they must gather supplies, investigate leads, and perform research. Naturally, the cults of the Crawling Chaos are not far behind them.
The finale of the Kenya chapter begins! The investigators reach the peak of the Mountain of the Black Wind. The Cult of the Bloody Tongue shall soon perform a ritual that will increase the Crawling Chaos' power on Earth, so our heroes must stop them, even though they are outnumbered thousands to one. They have been cunning and canny, but sometimes, even that is not enough. Will they have to make the ultimate sacrifice? Staring down Nyarlathteop is not without costs...
The investigators are in Nairobi, looking into the cult of the Bloody Tongue and the missing Carlyle Expedition. Before they can enlist the aid of locals, including a powerful mystic, they must prove themselves by stopping a potential agent of the Crawling Chaos, Mr. Corbitt and any other cultists in the city. Corbitt owns a mansion connected to evil, but what lurks in the basement will horrify even the most jaded of investigators. Can the team purge the evil hiding in the darkness?
The team bypasses Cairo altogether to head straight for the source! Many clues point to Kenya as the possible epicenter of the conspiracy. The Carlyle Expedition did disappear there, after all. Before the investigators can pick up the trail in Nairobi, they must first pass through the port city of Mombasa. The cults of the Crawling Chaos are now on the lookout for them, so travel will be more difficult. What strategy will they use to defeat the cultists? What other dangers lie in wait for them? Find out as the Kenya chapter begins!
After surviving an encounter with cultists in Hollywood, our brave team of investigators journeys to New York to meet with Jackson Elias. It is January 1925 and the fate of the world hangs in the balance, although no one realizes it yet. The investigators soon realize their fate is intertwined with the infamous Carlyle Expedition of 1919, which met its doom in Kenya in a brutal massacre by angry natives...supposedly. Unraveling the machinations of the Crawling Chaos will take everything they have and even then they may not uncover every Mask of Nyarlathotep! Miss the prequel games? Check out our campaign page to find the listening order!

Hello and welcome to episode 133! This week we watched the straight-to-video movie 'Blood Creek'. We were both pleasantly surprised by this film and agreed that it is worth a look. Other movies we watched this week include 'Mission Impossible 4' and 'The Mist', which is a favorite of ours (see episode #58 for full review). We didn't have a Crawling Chaos segment this week, but we'll have something good next week. ;) Blood Creek (2009) R, 90 minutes When a family agrees to host an occult-obsessed Nazi scholar in their West Virginia farmhouse prior to World War II, they're transformed into his undead slaves and must kidnap local victims to feed his bloodlust. Years later, an abducted war hero (Dominic Purcell) breaks free from the zombie family's clutches, rounds up his brother (Henry Cavill) and returns to the wilderness for payback. Joel Schumacher directs this supernatural horror flick. Hello and welcome to episode 129! This week we watched 'The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer', which is a prequel to Stephen King's 'Rose Red'. Sadly, the trailer below makes this movie look way more exciting than it actually is. In our Garbage in/Garbage out segment, we discuss two other movies we watched this week... 'Hop' and 'The Order'. This week's Crawling Chaos presents an interesting find at the bottom of the Baltic Sea... a UFO? Maybe! ... thanks for joining us! ;) The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer (2003) R 88 minutes This prequel to Stephen King's television miniseries "Rose Red" chronicles Ellen Rimbauer's (Lisa Brenner) doomed marriage to a wealthy, sex-crazed industrialist and their occupation of the enormous Seattle mansion that harbors evil forces. Passages from Rimbauer's diary detail her descent from an innocent and submissive wife into a woman fighting a losing battle against the dark spirits that dwell within her home. Hello and welcome to episode 125! This week we return to our 30 minute format, as well as to our original show name 'Vicis Interimo: 30 Minutes to Kill'. We decided this format works best for us, and appreciate those who reviewed the show and shared their feelings regarding a shorter 'bite-sized' show. Because of listener feedback, we've learned that there is a lack of shorter shows out there, as well as a demand! ... so, thank you! :) This week we discuss the 2012 film 'The Woman in Black'. We decided to include a spoiler this episode, but added it to the very end with a warning beforehand. It was just too hard to not talk about the ending! Short mentions include 'The Goonies', 'Cowboys and Aliens', 'The Hunger Games' (both the movie and the novels), and 2001's 'Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidora'. This week's Crawling Chaos segment features a little bit of whimsy courtesy of mother nature. The Woman in Black (2012) PG-13, 95 minutes Dispatched by his boss to an isolated seaside village to tie up a recently deceased client's affairs, a young London lawyer finds himself in a community grappling with dark secrets -- and a haunting presence with a sinister agenda. Welcome to episode 111! This week we discuss the movie 'Godsend', which we agree is more of a sci-fi thriller than anything else. This movie has quality performances, but maybe falls short in other areas. Our Garbage in/Garbage out segment features 'The Green Lantern', 'A Woman, a Gun, and a Noodle Shop', and the family movies 'Nanny McPhee Returns; and 'Gnomeo and Juliet'. Madsaxxon has started playing 'Silent Hill:Shattered Memories' for the Wii, so we have some things to say about it... and the Crawling Chaos segment returns with a reference to the 1980's movie 'Weekend at Bernie's'. We'd like to thank Slug again for joining us last week, and look forward to him joining us again soon! You can find a link to his podcast below, as well as a link to the Dolls of Despair's podcast, where they interview Bill Oberst Jr. Thanks for joining us this week, and please join us next time for the movie 'Husk'! Godsend: (2004) PG-13 When their son Adam (Cameron Bright) dies in a terrible accident the day after his birthday, married couple Paul (Greg Kinnear) and Jessie (Rebecca Romijn-Stamos) are contacted by a genetic research whiz (Robert De Niro) who wants to clone the boy. Caught up in grief, the couple agrees, hoping he can make things right. After the process is complete, things seem blissful until they realize that the "new" Adam has a dark side. Welcome to episode 69! This weeks movie is 'Pulse' from 2006. Short topics this week include the movies 'About a Boy', 'Last Man Standing', and 'Harry Potter'. We also briefly discuss the stone tape theory in our Crawling Chaos segment, and congratulate Lori on her induction into Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. The show goes a little nuts so hang in there with us. ;-) Pulse (2006) When their computer hacker friend accidentally channels a mysterious wireless signal, a group of co-eds rally to stop a terrifying evil from taking over the world.
