Gabrielle has been singing since she could talk. Her music career really took off when she turned a day job at a major supermarket chain into a springboard for her dreams. When she was 20, she auditioned for the store's radio station and was cast in their first-ever a cappella group, consisting of 11 talented employees from across the country. This gave Gabrielle the opportunity to work alongside Cupid on "Cupid Shuffle," perform on "Good Morning America" and star in music videos for social media. Even with all of her success, Gabrielle came from humble beginnings. She was raised in a three-bedroom trailer with her mom, four younger sisters, and an honorary auntie" Despite facing times without power or heat and her mother's struggle with mental health, Gabrielle has immense respect for her mom, who raised her family with limited resources. Gabrielle's relationship with her father was distant growing up, but, after he was involved in a severe car accident that left him partially immobile, she rekindled their bond. This tragic event, along with Gabrielle becoming an adult, not only brought them closer than ever before, but also motivated Gabrielle to pursue her musical dreams.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Hot on the trail of adventure, we track down otters with Jessica Kraft, learn to read the forest with Mark Warren, and learn about how technology is tracking us and what to do about it with McKenzie Funk. Along the way, Bobby the Bigfoot tells us how Sasquatches induce ASMR, and Nichole tells us about the number nine's magical properties. As if that weren't enough, she also teaches us a song to remember the names of all 50 states. And Evan tells us about his latest cryptid — a cute little critter that appeared in Dover, Massachusetts in 1977. Or did it? Last but not least, Evan and Nichole do the Tinikling, Electric Slide, and Cupid Shuffle at a Philippine Independence Day celebration. She created an adult swim class, specifically for people of color, who don't feel comfortable in the water. “We are helping our black families learn how to overcome their fear of the water and actually master it for the first time in their life.” The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports drowning rates for Black people are disproportionately higher than for white people. This is a result of systemic racism throughout American history. “Knowing how to swim, not only builds our confidence! [It] helps us to not drown and live a life that is open to new things that we never thought of!” Participants of a Y-USA survey report Black parents are 1.6 times more likely to have low confidence in water activities. The survey shows nearly 60% of Black parents have negative thoughts toward waterways like beaches and 40% have negative ideas about pools. “The hardest thing to see sometimes is when we are all in a group setting and we are the ones sitting outside of the pool,” explains Caballero. “Our black children are the ones in the shallow end with the life jackets, that the feel set apart because they don't know how to swim.” Caballero is a full-time swim instructor and travels throughout the community. She wants hopes to break down aquatic fears and provide life-saving skills. “We don't need to feel set apart anymore,” she said. “This is our lifestyle too and it's normal to us.” Interested in sponsoring the podcast? Susie went out on the town and now you're going to hear about it. A run-in with the police and war of words with an old lady at the Eagles concert? It's been a week! Sarah thinks the cure for this crazy behavior is a sound bath, so the gals planned a Colorado retreat to ease their minds. Hear their thoughts on Suzanne Somers's recent death, the reason Susie can't quit thinking about a small town in the Australian outback, and a complicated supermodel who isn't here to be your hero. We discuss the crazy Twin Flames cult that pressured people to change their genders and we learn the fascinating history of romance novels including the reason the covers are now mostly illustrated, why they've toned down the spicy stuff, and whether they're still just for white housewives. Louisiana Dance Musician calls on fans to help him save TikTok by: Howard Castay Cupid, a.k.a. Bryson Bernard, who dubs himself, "the line dance king," credits social media for reinventing his career among age groups in some of his fan base. However, he said the changes have been more noticeable since TikTok arrived in 2016. The Lafayette native has grown in popularity worldwide, after recording the single, the "Cupid Shuffle," in 2007. The song peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, the singer and songwriter has morphed into someone he calls the king of dance music. And as of late, he credits TikTok for helping him secure that title. "Tiktok is music to the people," Bernard said. "It's a direct connection for music and dance, and also a great resource of information." "With TikTok, I have tripled my exposure to audiences, as opposed to my past promotional strategy." Describing his TikTok success, he said his new song, "Flex," has over 10 million impressions on TikTok and the "Cupid Shuffle," has, "way more than that number." "What's interesting though, is that since TikTok's inception, I've been watching kids who weren't even born 17 years ago when I made the Cupid Shuffle, dance like crazy to it. Then, I'm watching the Cupid Shuffle fans, dance to Flex." "Speaking for myself, I think TikTok has been a huge influence." Now, the artist is asking fans to save TikTok by placing #saveTikTok on all their TikTok videos. The reason? What has his ire is news from Capitol Hill that some members of Congress want to ban TikTok for all Americans, citing unfounded national security concerns. Also, in Louisiana, there is a bill currently in the legislature (which is currently in session), HB 361 by Rep. Daryl Deshotel, R-Marksville, to prohibit the use of TikTok on state devices or networks. Here are some of the singer's objections on why a TikTok ban doesn't make sense. It seems like the government is trying to control people. Is the government upset because they can't figure out how to make money off of it, so they are throwing in the towel? Not having the power to control the media. Real life situations! Just think if there wasn't TikTok. When would we have found about George Floyd? Or Ahmaud Arbery? Viewing TikTok as a threat to personal freedom. For instance, some teenagers are making thousands, hundreds of thousands of dollars without a proper education. American Propaganda. We're told China is destroying America. But has the government checked on the things we're doing? Why are government contracts being leaked? That's not TikTok's fault!
Here's the truth: I hate fundraising for cheer. There are a lot of things I would rather do than ask people for money, figure out who donated, and then deliver whatever it is that they bought. I would rather go without coffee on competition day. I would rather tell my husband how much we spent on snacks alone at the last travel event. I would rather do The Cupid Shuffle. That's how much I don't like fundraising and the headache that it brings. I once participated in a fundraiser where we sold peaches from a local farm. When the peaches were delivered, the people who bought them were nowhere to be found, and I was stuck with 100 pounds of peaches in my living room….not to mention the fruit flies. But, like the price of eggs, cheer fees are definitely not getting any cheaper, and because we love our kids so much, sometimes fundraising is necessary so they can continue to do what they love. In this episode I'm going through 5 ways you can fundraise for your team that you might not have tried yet. To learn more about how to fundraise with Aimly, click here. Bryson Bernard, better known by his stage name Cupid, is a singer and songwriter from Lafayette, Louisiana. He is best known for the 2007 line dance single "Cupid Shuffle", which peaked at number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100. We set down on this episode and talk about the beginning, the highs and lows and the comeback. #funepisode
Heidi Weber is the Director of Operations for the Open Series Championships, which is connected with the All Star World Championship. She also directs the Celebrity Cheer and Dance Championships, and she is involved as a leader in the All-star cheer industry. Heidi believes in giving people a voice and she believes in giving us, the cheer parents, the customers, affordable options. And maybe even the best part about Heidi is that she no longer plays the Cupid Shuffle at her events. Heidi and I talk about taking the cheer experience beyond two minutes and 30 seconds, beyond just that time that they're competing on the mat. And I loved, loved, loved our conversation. I so appreciated Heidi's time and I hope that you find this episode helpful and that it excites you for the future of All Star cheerleading. Special Thanks to our Sponsor: Prodigy Cheer Apparel

Welcome back to Artbeat Radio! Today we hear CECA's Star Club! Listen in as CECA shares about how to throw the best Halloween party! Many students participated in the creation of this podcast. Below are the following with media consent. Andy, Mila, Maria D, Maria G, Johnny, Satchel, Michael, Harry, Jenny, Nanako, Jesus, Juliet, Kyuta, Drea, and PJ. Thanks for listening and tune in next time! For more information about our organization, please visit our website www.ableartswork.org Audio Transcription: (Please listen on Podomatic or Spotify to view the full transcript) *Intro music by Artbeat Radio staff* Music, stories, and more! You're listening to Artbeat Radio, a program of Able ARTS Work. ALL: Welcome to CECA's Star Club. Jenny: With ArtBeat Radio. Halloween music intro starts with Jesus' scary laugh. Mollie: Based on that spooky soundtrack, can you guess what holiday is coming up on October 31st? Jenny & PJ: It's Halloween! Mollie: It's Halloween! Exactly. Halloween piece composed by Drea on acoustic guitar, keyboard, and Soundtrap loops plays. Mollie: Today, our experts will tell you how to throw the best Halloween party you've ever been to. PJ: Now there's a few things you'll need. Jenny & PJ: Venue, guest list, decorations, activities, food, DJ. Jenny: Let's get into it! Firstly, you need a venue with enough space to move around. For our example, we will be hypothetically throwing the best party ever right here at CECA. Mollie: So, what are some good recommendations for a venue, DJ PJ? PJ: Burgers and burritos. Mollie: A venue? Not a menu, a venue! Laughs. Why you! So for a venue, do you think maybe a house? PJ: Yes. Mollie: A family member's house? PJ: Yes. Mollie: A park? Organ music begins played in a minor key. PJ: Yes. Mollie: A bowling alley? PJ: No. Mollie: Oh, okay, what about the beach? PJ: No. Mollie: Not the beach either? PJ: No. Mollie: Okay, so just a house or a park. PJ: Yeah. Mollie: Alright. You heard it here first, folks. A house or a park is the ideal venue. Mollie: Now who to invite? HOW to invite them? Call your friends and family! PJ: Send out invitations to all the programs: EPI, San Diego, Art Center, and Long Beach. Maybe send out secret invisible invitations! Jenny: The place has to look FANTASTIC if you are inviting all your favorite people! We would suggest your Halloween party has… Jenny: …Halloween lights, PJ: …a spooky graveyard, PJ: 5 spiders, spider webs, Jenny & PJ: orange and black streamers, Jenny: …2 eye balls, PJ: 4 monsters, and a Jenny & PJ: …fog machine. Jenny: Every good party needs some action! That's why at CECA, we would have a costume contest, pumpkin carving, dance party, a haunted house, and spooky movie showings! Jenny & PJ: Try to guess these famous films by the popular song. We would watch films like… Theme song sequence plays. Everyone at CECA played their part. Jenny: The Addams Family ALL: Day-o, day-o, daylight comes and I wanna go home. Day-isa-day-isa-day-isa-day-isa-day-isa-day-o. Daylight come and I wanna go home Jenny: Beetlejuice ALL: When there's something strange in the neighborhood Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! If there's something weird, and it don't look good. Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters? Jenny: Ghostbusters ALL: I put a spell on you And now you're mine You can't stop the things I do I ain't lying It's been three hundred years Right down to the day Now the witch is back And there's hell to pay I put a spell on you And now you're mine! I put a spell on you And now you're gone Gone, gone, gone so long My whammy fell on you And it was strong So strong, so strong, so strong! Your wretched little lives Have all been cursed 'Cause of all the witches working I'm the worst I put a spell on you And now you're mine I put a spell on you And now you're mine Jenny: Hocus Pocus Jenny: It sounds like the place is decked out! Won't people get hungry doing so much fun stuff? Organ music plays in a minor key. JQ: Oh yes! PJ: We recommend serving… Jenny: Eyeball cupcakes, chocolate dirt cups with gummy worms, spooky punch with Hawaiian punch, eyeballs, gummy worms, gummy brains, dry ice, and 5 gummy ghosts in a witch's cauldron. Mollie : Wow, that sounds like the deliciousness of that food would only be enhanced by creepy music! Be sure to secure a DJ to create the perfect frightening atmosphere. For our party, we would hire DJ PJ and DJ Michael. Intro to CECA's rendition of “Thriller” by Michael Jackson plays. Jenny: This is our rendition of “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. CECA's rendition of “Thriller” by Michael Jackson continues to play. ALL: It's close to midnight Something evil's lurking in the dark Under the moonlight You see a sight that almost stops your heart You try to scream But terror takes the sound before you make it You start to freeze As horror looks you right between the eyes You're paralyzed 'Cause this is thriller, thriller night And no one's gonna save you From the beast about to strike You know it's thriller, thriller night You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller, ow You hear the door slam And realize there's nowhere left to run You feel the cold hand And wonder if you'll ever see the sun You close your eyes And hope that this is just imagination (Girl) But all the while You hear a creature creepin' up behind You're out of time 'Cause this is thriller, thriller night And no one's gonna save you From the beast about to strike You know it's thriller, thriller night You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller, ow Halloween music with organ and sounds of dogs barking and cats purring plays. Mollie: Now not everything has to be in theme with Halloween. Our resident DJs recommend any music that gets people up and dancing! They prefer rap music like… PJ: Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Biggie, and Wiz Khalifa… Mollie: and Latin music like… PJ: Selena, Ricky Martin, and banda music. It is important to note the Cha Cha slide and Cupid shuffle are undeniable American classics. Lines from “Cha Cha Slide” and “Cupid Shuffle” play on organ. Organ music continues in a minor key. Mollie: We would recommend non-scary foods like candy, cake, Tres leches, chicken fingers, French fries, tacos with mole, coke, pizza with pepperoni, and rice. PJ: Oh, yes! Mollie: Jenny do you know what you are going to dress up as for Halloween? Jenny: A cow. Mollie: Ooo! Excellent! Mollie: And PJ what will you be for Halloween? PJ: I wanna be, like… I was SpongeBob last year. Mollie: And will you be SpongeBob again this year? PJ: I need to go buy a new costume. Mollie: And where are you going to buy a new costume? PJ: Grocer—Ah! I was about to say grocery store. Mollie: laughs Don't buy your Halloween costume from a grocery store! PJ: No! Mollie: You're going to be dressed as a potato sack! PJ: Target is better to buy Halloween costumes. Mollie: Right on. On that note, we hope you have a great Halloween! See you next time with CECA's Star Club on Jenny: ArtBeat Radio! Instrumental guitar piece plays composed by virtual class. *Outro music by Artbeat Radio staff* We hope you enjoyed this episode of Artbeat Radio. For more information, please go to our website. What are simple ways to adventure as a family? As a follow up to Episode 060 | Invitation to Connect and Create Simple Adventures I wanted to give you some examples of simple adventures that your family could do this weekend. These are some of the Everyday Adventures we build into our monthly adventure list that I will be helping you create and bring to life in the Everyday Adventure Challenge. I wanted to give you some insights into what I mean by simple adventures and remind you that the value is not in this list of ideas. The magic happens when you bring these Everyday Adventures to life so each member of your family feels connected by spending meaningful time together having fun and connecting with other families throughout the process. Make a Mess Play in the dirt, get your hands dirty, do a messy craft project, play with shaving cream, throw pottery, paint a canvas, do a mud run Turn the dining room table into a fort with pillows and blankets. To extend the experience grab a flashlight and read a book in your new fort. Check out a seasonal attraction. Some examples in our area are ice caves or ice castles, polar plunges, giant snowmen, or snowmobile races. Visit the best playground with in ___ miles Have a paper airplane contest Eat whatever is for dinner with your fingers. Spaghetti and soup are a fun challenge and will offer lots of laughs. Grab a pack of gum and try the “the biggest bubble” contest Try a new coffee or ice cream shop throughout the season. Order a signature drink or flavor. Keep a report card with your ratings. Write a letter or draw a picture and mail it to someone Design an indoor obstacle course. Some of our favorite supplies are stools, bed pillows and painters tape as laser beams Crank the music and do a family dance in the kitchen. Some examples include Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide, Macarena. Sleep out in the family room Jump Around. Try different types of jumping contests or activities, jump rose contest, standing broad jump, who can jump the highest, or blast House of Pain and pretend you are at a Wisconsin Badger Football game. Geocaching Like a scavenger hunt but with gps. Download the geocaching app (free) and see what is close by. Plan a local adventure weekend: 5 things you can do to be gone for more than 12 hours?
