In an age where technology permeates every facet of our lives, its transformative power is particularly evident in the realm of experiences and connections. The recent CES serves as a compelling illustration of how technological advancements have reshaped our interactions, perceptions, and emotional engagements. The conversation reveals insights from industry professionals who have witnessed firsthand the evolution of technology and its impact on human experiences.Technology Transforms Experiences and ConnectionsThe CES, a hallmark event in the tech industry, showcases innovations that not only highlight the latest gadgets but also embody the essence of connectivity and emotional engagement. Allie Fried, a spokesperson for CES, discusses the event's impressive scale, noting that the previous year attracted over 130,000 attendees from 150 countries, creating a vibrant tapestry of global interaction. This statistic alone underscores how technology brings people together, fostering connections that transcend geographical boundaries. The sheer diversity of participants - from tech giants like Amazon and Google to startups in Eureka Park - demonstrates a collective pursuit of innovation that inspires collaboration and shared experiences. As Fried recounts her experiences navigating the expansive exhibition space, she emphasizes the contrast between the flashy displays of major corporations and the more intimate, groundbreaking innovations found in Eureka Park. Here, the focus shifts from mere consumerism to a deeper exploration of how technology can genuinely enhance lives. For instance, the introduction of a robotic dog designed to assist Alzheimer's patients reflects a profound understanding of the emotional and practical needs of individuals. This is not just about showcasing advanced technology; it is about creating meaningful connections that can significantly improve the quality of life for patients and their families.Furthermore, Fried highlights the emotional resonance of technology through the example of an AI baby panda. Designed to mimic the behaviors and characteristics of a real panda, this technological marvel goes beyond entertainment; it fosters emotional connections by responding to human emotions. The experience of holding this AI companion, feeling its heartbeat, and hearing it sing evokes a sense of empathy and companionship that is often lacking in our increasingly digital world. Such innovations illustrate how technology can bridge the gap between human emotions and artificial intelligence, creating experiences that resonate on a deeply personal level.Innovation Leads to Market EvolutionThe evolution of technology has also transformed the way we perceive and interact with the world around us. Scott and Allie reflect on the dramatic improvements in audio-visual quality over the years, enabling richer and more immersive experiences. The transition from bulky equipment to compact, high-quality devices signifies not only advancements in technology but also a shift in how we consume and share experiences. The ability to capture and broadcast events in real-time, as demonstrated by the live show at CES, allows for a more inclusive and participatory experience for audiences, whether they are physically present or engaging from afar. Moreover, the collaborative spirit fostered by technology is evident in the way industry professionals share knowledge and insights at events like CES. The conversation reflects a sense of camaraderie among attendees, who recognize the shared challenges and triumphs of navigating the ever-evolving tech landscape. This sense of community is bolstered by platforms that facilitate dialogue and collaboration, enabling individuals to connect over common interests and goals. Conclusion: CES Represents an Ever-Evolving Technology LandscapeIn conclusion, CES underscores the profound impact of technology on experiences and connections. From the emotional resonance of AI companions to the global interactions fostered by events like CES, technology serves as a catalyst for deeper human connections and enriched experiences. As we continue to embrace technological advancements, it is essential to recognize and harness their potential to create meaningful interactions that enhance our lives and the lives of those around us. Ultimately, technology is not merely a tool; it is a bridge that connects us to one another and to the world, transforming our experiences in ways that were once unimaginable.Interview by Scott Ertz of F5 Live: Refreshing Technology.Sponsored by: Get $5 to protect your credit card information online with Privacy.

In this special episode of On Location, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brian about what we can expect from this year's CES, how it continues to shape the tech world, and what it means for all of us navigating a Hybrid Analog Digital Society.Setting the Tone for the Year in TechAs Brian pointed out, CES is not just an event—it's the launchpad for the year's tech trends. Taking place January 7-10 in Las Vegas, CES 2025 will be a massive showcase of innovation across countless industries, from artificial intelligence to mobility, digital health, energy solutions, and beyond. This year's theme, "Dive In," perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the event. It's not just about experiencing the surface level of emerging technologies but about going deeper—exploring how these advancements interact, converge, and shape our everyday lives. Whether you're an executive closing deals, a media professional discovering cutting-edge innovations, or a curious onlooker reading from afar, CES offers an opportunity to explore the tech-driven future.Human-Centric Innovation at Its CoreCES has evolved from a purely consumer electronics show to something much broader. While enterprise solutions now account for nearly 40% of its exhibitors, the focus remains on human-centric innovation. As Brian aptly said, "Humans are not just consumers; they are patients, workers, collaborators, and creators." The technologies at CES aim to enhance our lives in all these roles.Digital health is a prime example of this shift. This year, exhibitors in this category are moving to the Venetian campus alongside smart home, lifestyle tech, and accessibility solutions, highlighting how these technologies are converging to improve health, wellness, and longevity. From wearables that connect to your smart home to smart mirrors that monitor your mood, CES demonstrates how personalized, data-driven ecosystems can redefine daily living. The Evolution of InnovationBrian and I also discussed the nature of innovation, which he breaks down into two categories: evolutionary and revolutionary. CES showcases both. Evolutionary innovation involves incremental advances, like smarter AI chips in TVs that turn entertainment devices into command centers for your smart home or even tools for telehealth. Revolutionary innovation, on the other hand, includes breakthroughs like nuclear fusion and generative AI—transformations that redefine industries overnight. This year, startups are expected to bring some of the most exciting stories. The Eureka Park pavilion will spotlight companies like Standard Energy, which is developing vanadium ion battery tiles for home energy storage, and Senergetics, which uses AI to predict and prevent corrosion in power plant pipes. Another standout is Glidance, an autonomous guide robot for individuals with low vision, showcasing how innovation can serve diverse needs and create new opportunities for accessibility.A Convergence of Ideas and OpportunitiesAt its heart, CES is about connection—not just connecting devices but connecting people and ideas. It's a place where startups meet industry giants, partnerships are forged, and new possibilities are imagined. As Brian highlighted, the show serves as both a showcase and a platform for collaboration, where the seeds of future innovations are planted.Wrapping It UpCES 2025 is more than a trade show—it's a glimpse into the future of our coexistence with technology. As we prepare to dive into the event, one thing is clear: technology is no longer something we simply use. It's a part of who we are and how we live.I'll leave you with this thought: CES isn't just about what's next; it's about how we can work together to make what's next even better.Mark your calendars for January 7-10, and stay tuned for more conversations as Sean Martin and I bring you the latest stories On Location.Subscribe, follow, and let's explore the future together!____________________________This Episode's Sponsors HITRUST: https://itspm.ag/itsphitweb____________________________Catch all of our event coverage: https://www.itspmagazine.com/technology-cybersecurity-society-humanity-conference-and-event-coverageWant to tell your Brand Story Briefing as part of our event coverage?Learn More

The year was 2020 and Shark Tank scouts were combing the floor, as they've done for about a decade, searching for exciting strokes of tech genius. When they met Robbie Cabral, they were blown away. This episode of CES Tech Talk explores how Robbie and his padlock innovation, the fingerprint-activated BenjiLock, made their way to the Shark Tank studio, earning a highly lucrative deal with the show's “Mr. Wonderful” shark, Kevin O'Leary. Today, the biometric BenjiLock is sold through Hampton Products International, and can be purchased across retail's top outlets including Walmart, Best Buy, Lowe's, Ace Hardware and Amazon. Learn what Supervising Casting Producer Mindy Zemrak saw in Robbie, how BenjiLock stood out, and strategies Eureka Park exhibitors can apply as they contend for the Shark Tank spotlight. Since we first encountered BenjiLock in Eureka Park in 2017, the company has changed a lot. Those early days were at a tiny booth with a non-functioning prototype. Before we got to see them again, the company had been on Shark Tank and partnered with Mr. Wonderful Kevin O'Leary. O'Leary put together a partnership to help Founder Robbie Cabral bring the product to market with manufacturing, sales, and more. Today, the company is looking at its next phase in life, including helping to support other startups at CES.What is BenjiLock?BenjiLock is the world's first biometric padlock with a traditional key. The importance of having a biometric padlock allows you to go to the gym without having to carry anything with you. We've all had a phone fall out of our pocket or had to go look for our keys later on. With the BenjiLock, you can safely leave your items in a locker without having to carry a key.The importance of having a physical key allows for a backup. Batteries die - and always at inopportune times. With other smart padlocks, if the battery dies, you're possibly out of luck. You'll have to cut the expensive lock off and throw it away. However, with the physical key, you've got a way to open the lock in that situation.BenjiLock also now offers a wider range of products. The line now includes a biometric deadbolt and biometric bike lock, offering the convenience of unlocking your door or bike without keys. BenjiLock hopes to revolutionize home security, bike safety, and more with its innovative technology. By expanding the ecosystem, more people in more situations can go about their days without the need to carry as many keys.BenjiLock at CES 2023This year, the company took a different approach to CES. Rather than having its large blue booth on the show floor, Robbie spent his time helping to bring awareness to other startups exhibiting at the show in Eureka Park. BenjiLock sponsored the startup pitch event on the CTA Stage with Canon, allowing BenjiLock to help new startups get their start by giving them a platform at CES. BenjiLock was able to use its resources and experience from standing out in Eureka Park just six years ago to give back and help other startups get their big break. This event was in partnership with the CTA Foundation, the non-profit arm of the Consumer Technology Association, the organization that oversees CES. The event was intended to showcase the best startups and entrepreneurs in technology, giving BenjiLock a chance to help out where they originally got started. Their support of the CTA Foundation really shows how far they've come since their first appearance at CES in 2017.BenjiLock has gone from a small startup with big dreams to an established company ready to give back. The company is continuing to innovate, bringing biometric technology to the masses in a way we've never seen before. Robbie Cabral looks forward to what the future holds as the brand continues to grow and expand their product line. "Fun" isn't a word most people would associate with cybersecurity. But for AckTao CEO and Co-Founder Cecile Maye, it's a critical factor in empowering others in their digital lives. And she'll be demonstrating how engagement equals retention, as she exhibits AckTao in Booth 61433 of the Swiss Tech pavilion in CES® 2023's Eureka Park® startup area! Switzerland-based educational technology startup AckTao has created an advanced cloud-gaming digital education program. Participants "play" in different scenarios which educate them on digital security risks. A scenario might take you into an airport store. Or perhaps a restaurant, workshop or office setting. There's even an application for those who work at home. And the system is customized, through AI, to adapt to a user's answers and level of understanding in real time. Areas which AckTao's library of scenarios cover include phishing, cyber resilience, password security--and much more. From experience, AckTao is engaging. We did the airport scenario and were curious to see our scores. One situation (no spoilers here, but it's a common one at airports, or in public in general!), came as a complete surprise: "Wow, that's a cybersecurity risk, too?" And we were excited to see our scores! Cecile shared the story of AckTao, explained some of the "everyday" cybersecurity risks which the general public can face and discussed the areas in which she'd most like to grow, in the future. On this edition of Over Coffee® we cover: The story of AckTao; How the system works; Some of the everyday cyber threats that don't occur to most of us; What's ahead for AckTao; One of Cecile's best experiences since creating the program; How users experience the system; Some common workplace pitfalls that can leave you vulnerable to hackers; A particularly popular new AckTao scenario. CES® 2023 runs from Thursday, January 5th through Sunday, January 8th in Las Vegas. The Eureka Park® startup area is located in The Venetian.

On this episode of the Startup of the Year Podcast, we've got an investor conversation that my Co-Founder, Jen Consalvo, and I had a discussion during our “Grow your startup” pitch competition. During the event, five companies had a chance to showcase their companies in front of our esteemed investor panel, which included our long-time friend and former colleague, Rich Maloy, who is currently the managing partner at Springtime Ventures and has had careers in finance and sales and of course working with Established. ERICA at the Japan section of Eureka Park® during CES® 2020, Las Vegas. "ERICA (isn't just a laughing robot)," clarifies researcher Dr. Divesh Lala. "The laughing is just a small part of the whole." Kyoto University researchers first began working with ERICA, or ERATO Intelligent Conversational Android, in 2015. Their goal: to develop her as a social robot who can function in conversational situations. Currently, that objective includes teaching the robot to laugh--an appropriate laugh, at the right time. Divesh, who is a JSPS Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Kyoto University, specializes in the area of artificial intelligence. For almost six years, he's been a researcher on the ERATO Ishiguro Symbiotic Human-Robot Interaction project. In other words, he's had the opportunity to work with ERICA, from the very early days. Using gaze behavior, speech and gesture, Divesh creates engaging conversations with this humanoid robot. He's published numerous research papers on his work--including "Can a Robot Laugh With You?", on which he is one of three co-authors. Divesh talked about the process of programming ERICA to be an engaging and believable conversationalist, explained what's involved in giving the robot the ability to laugh and offered a preview of what's next. On this edition of Over Coffee®we cover: How Divesh first became interested in artificial intelligence; His recollections from his early days of working with ERICA; A speech-recognition issue which is natural to humans but presented researchers with a challenge, in programming the robot; A distinction to keep in mind, about ERICA; How researchers decided to include laughter in her conversational capabilities; Considerations involved in that process; How it works, when the robot laughs; Divesh's favorite experience, from this latest aspect of his research work; Some possible future applications of ERICA's conversational capabilities; What could be next, for the laughter model; Divesh's recollections of the first time he heard ERICA laugh; Where to find additional publications on his research; Divesh's advice for fellow robot enthusiasts, on creating lifelike humanoids.

In honor of CES® 2021, which has just concluded in Las Vegas, here is one of our all-time top interviews from Eureka Park® 2020. Great virtual show, CES®, and we hope to see you in person very soon! Ben Resnick displays Bzigo at Eureka Park® during CES® 2020, Las Vegas. What if you could use artificial intelligence to find and kill mosquitoes? With Israel-based startup Bzigo, that's no longer a hypothetical question. When we met Bzigo Product Manager Ben Resnick in the Eureka Park® area of CES®2020, his company was just introducing their prototype. This year, we attended CES® virtually. But according to their website, Bzigo was back at Eureka Park®. And despite the pandemic, they remain on track to deliver their new devices, with plans to roll out their first models later in 2022. So, what does Bzigo do? It pinpoints a mosquito's location, showing you on your cell phone where the insect has landed. Then, the accompanying device allows you to "zap" that mosquito. This could literally be lifesaving technology. When we hear "mosquitoes" we think "nuisance". But the World Health Organization's website states that more than 600,000 people died of malaria in 2020. Currently, Bzigo is taking advance orders on their website--and we can't wait to see their rollout! Ben shared the story of Bzigo, explained how the device works and shared some surprising facts about putting an end to mosquitoes. On this edition of Over Coffee® we cover: The story behind Bzigo; How a talented teacher first inspired Ben to become an innovator; Ben's path to getting involved with the Bzigo project; How the technology works; The personal experience behind Ben's commitment to eradicating biting insects; Ben's vision for the future, and the additional areas in which this AI technology can work against biting insects.

In addition to providing information and research, the organization actively pulls people together to make a significant impact in this space. The Collaborative categorizes technologies into three buckets: health, wealth, and self. Health is care of body and mind, wealth offers solutions for savings and planning, and self helps add fun and fulfillment to people's lives. There are five major stakeholders in the age-tech ecosystem: industry leaders, test beds, the investment community, business services and startups. Criteria for startups accepted into the accelerator include strong founders, particularly those who have a strong idea attached to a personal issue, and a willingness to be flexible in terms of market fit.

"With our technology, Snow White would have never eaten that apple," says Senorics Chief Sales Officer Robert Langer. And on Monday evening, Robert, and his early-stage startup Senorics, won first place in the "Pitchfest" awards, as CES® 2018's Euro Tech Week kicked off in Las Vegas! Robert, who is from Dresden, Germany, had the opportunity to pitch Senorics as part of a pilot project, ENRICH in the USA, funded by the European Commission. Congratulations to Robert, the first early-stage European startup to win a first-place award in ENRICH in the USA's new initiative! Here's a quick look at his cool new technology and how he envisions it working as part of everyday life within the next couple of years! Meanwhile, the ENRICH in the USA program is geared towards building centers and hubs to promote European innovation in the U.S., according to European American Enterprise Council Vice-President of Univerxity & Entrepreneurship Soft Landing Programs Blandine Chantepie-Kari. Blandine says ENRICH in the USA is comprised of nine organizations: six in Europe and three in the United States. "What the European Commission planned was...to have a European network of research and innovation centers (with companies already established and growing, who want to expand their business within the United States)," says ENRICH USA partner Raimund Brochler. "So this is a kind of pilot activity, and it would then be expanded to other companies with promising markets." Congratulations to Robert, and to Senorics, the first early-stage European startup to win a first-place award in ENRiCH in the USA's pilot program! We look forward to seeing Senorics here in our part of the world in the future. CES® 2018's Euro Tech Week continues from now through Friday, January 12th at Harrah's and Eureka Park, Las Vegas. Here's their link, for more information, and a link to their Facebook page.
Over Coffee® is headed to Las Vegas for CES 2018! Don't miss our coverage, starting January 9th. Meanwhile, here is one of our most popular podcast episodes, recorded at CES 2017's Eureka Park® . "This violin is for me. So I love it!" says professional violinist, mechanical engineer and 3DVarius creator Laurent Bernadac. So do a lot of his fellow musicians, as they play his creation: the world's first concert-quality 3D printed electric violin! We met and talked with Laurent during CES® 2017. At the time, he was exhibiting--and allowing musicians to play--his 3DVarius at CES' Eureka Park area. And he had just made his first U.S. sale of the 3DVarius. (His company is based in France.) With the arrival of 2018, Laurent is again preparing to bring 3DVarius to the U.S. He 's headed back to the NAMM Show in Anaheim in late January, with both his 4- and 5-string 3DVarius violins, AND two new models, according to his Facebook page. As we explored Eureka Park® and CES® 2017, Laurent took the time to talk with us and share the story of creating the 3DVarius. In this edition of Over Coffee® you'll hear: How Laurent came to choose 3D printing for his new violin; Some of the challenges involved in creating it; Laurent's experiences testing and showcasing his new instrument; His advice to fellow makers and innovators; Where to see and hear the “3DVarius” and meet Laurent! (Want to hear something fun? Here's the link to Laurent's YouTube channel, and his family "3DXmas" greeting!) See you at CES 2018, happening January 9-12, 2018 in Las Vegas! This is the 51st edition of the show, and we expect to be going, "Whoa!" on a regular basis as we check out the newest developments in robotics, 3D printing, AR, VR and wearables.
