The world population is aging, and with 10,000 people turning 65 daily, new opportunities are emerging in the tech industry. So, today, we're exploring the AgeTech revolution with Cathy Minter, the CEO and co-founder of Wisdom.io. AgeTech? Yeah, it's a thing, and it's been quietly changing the game since 2016. But we're not talking about teaching your grandparents to code (although they definitely could…because we never stop learning new things, remember?). We're talking about everything from "I need to plan my will" apps to smart homes that won't let you forget your meds. Now, Cathy's not just some tech guru who decided to cash in on the “silver tsunami,” aka demographic change. Nope, she's got skin in the game. Her journey into AgeTech is like a roller coaster ride through personal loss, family drama, and a "wait, why isn't there an app for that?" moment during the pandemic. You'll want to hear how being the baby of the family turned her towards tech founderdom.Cathy's not just about keeping old folks "aging in place" (a term that has got to go, btw). She's all about living well independently as long as possible. And boy, does she have stories to tell about navigating the gender bias and ageism in the tech world. From trying to look older in her 30s (because apparently, corporate tech leadership and youth don't mix) to dealing with the subtle "oh, honey" vibes in her 50s, Cathy's seen it all.So, if you're curious about how AgeTech is gearing up to make our golden years truly golden, or if you just want to hear some juicy tales from Silicon Valley, this episode's got you covered.“I asked one of the older adults in our focus group about aging in place, and she said it's just about living life to the fullest for the time that you have.” - Cathy MinterIn This Episode:- Introduction to AgeTech and its ability to improve lives-Cathy's journey to founding Wisdom.io-The sandwich generation and the future of age tech-Navigating career growth and gender bias in the workplace-Barriers to AgeTech adoption for older adults-Redefining “aging in place”-Ageism in the tech industry-Innovation gaps in the tech sector for older adults-The value of mentorship and intergenerational collaborationAnd much more!Connect with Cathy Minter:-Website: https://www.mywisdom.io/ -LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cathyminterConnect with Maureen Clough:-Instagram: @itgetslateearly - https://www.instagram.com/itgetslateearly/-YouTube: @itgetslateearly - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGrHwk-y7ERaq7bCSjZYf1A?sub_confirmation=1-Website: itgetslateearly.com - https://www.itgetslateearly.com/-LinkedIn: @maureenwclough -

Paul Ptashnick is back with us continuing his story of his caregiving journey. When his father was diagnosed with Parkinson's shortly after retirement, Paul stepped up to provide support, navigating the complexities of his father's declining health. His story takes an unexpected turn when Paul's mother is also diagnosed with Lewy body Parkinson's, requiring him to juggle the care of both parents simultaneously. The challenges Paul faces are multifaceted, from his mother's phobia of nursing homes to the differing symptoms exhibited by his parents. Paul's proactive approach, including finding a family friend to provide overnight care for his wandering mother, showcases his resourcefulness and dedication. Additionally, Paul's insightful decision to involve his mother in daily tasks like laundry and cleaning demonstrates his understanding of the importance of maintaining a sense of purpose for those living with Parkinson's. As Paul's caregiving journey evolves, he encounters the complexities of navigating the healthcare system, particularly when his mother transitions to hospice care. Paul's willingness to make tough decisions, such as opting out of hospice at times, highlights his ability to prioritize his mother's well-being and his own mental health. Throughout it all, Paul's commitment to self-care, including seeking therapy, exemplifies the importance of caregivers tending to their own needs to ensure they can continue providing the best possible support. About Paul: Paul Ptashnick is a freelance copywriter and fractional marketer focused on B2B startups in the InsurTech, FinTech, and AgeTech spaces. In addition, Paul's wife Ana is also an entrepreneur, opening Red Apron Charcuterie in 2023. Key Takeaways Planning allows for better decision making and saves money. Start home modifications early and evolve as needs change. Construction is challenging no matter how well you plan for it. Occupational therapists look at the big picture with a focus on what is most meaningful. An example is the addition of raised planter beds if you love gardening but can't crouch down due to knee surgery. Fall prevention is not installing grab bars, it is looking at the whole person and all the pieces, including caregivers and finances. Social networks are a critical component of aging in place. Local community is vitally important for connection and support.

Baby boomers have always been known for their innovative thinking and for being on the forefront of new technologies. Now, as they enter retirement, baby boomers are once again at the forefront of innovation, this time in the form of Metaverse, Blockchain, and Web 3.0 technologies. While these new technologies offer a world of potential, they also come with a unique set of challenges. One of the biggest challenges is figuring out how to use new technologies to their advantage. Many baby boomers grew up in a time when everything was done offline, so adapting to a world where everything is online can be difficult. They also worry about online safety. Also, baby boomers must navigate a complex financial landscape where it can be hard to determine if assets are worth acquiring. Finally, baby boomers must learn how to use these technologies in conjunction with each other. There are also numerous opportunities. As baby boomers age, the healthcare industry is preparing for an influx of patients. Blockchain technology has the potential to revolutionize how healthcare is delivered. It can be used to keep track of patient outcomes and medication regimens. This is very important for baby boomers, who are more likely to take multiple medications and visit multiple specialists.  Blockchain technology POTENTIALLY would allow doctors and nurses to quickly find and fix problems in the care process. Blockchain could be used to verify the identities of patients and providers, ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to sensitive information. For baby boomers, dealing with healthcare costs and payments can be a real hassle. You're on a fixed income, and every time you go to the doctor or get a prescription, it feels like there's another bill to pay. Fortunately, blockchain technology is beginning to change all that. With blockchain, payments can be made more efficiently and securely, without all the paperwork and hassle. These technologies offer a level of security and transparency that is incredibly important for older adults who are handling their finances for the first time. With blockchain, baby boomers can track their money and make sure that they are getting the best deals possible. And with tokens, they can access a wide range of financial services that can help them to manage their money more effectively. As a result, blockchain and tokens are becoming increasingly popular with baby boomers who want to take control of their financial future.By harnessing the power of blockchain, we can ensure that baby boomers receive the best possible care.----------Bio:Joining me today is Dr. Alex Cahana, MD, a physician with over 25 years of clinical experience. As you'll hear in this interview, the latest data and statistics around aging are almost too hard to believe. Here are just two data points. As of 2007, it's expected that about half of all babies born will live to be over 100 or become what are called centenarians. And by 2024, it's expected that workers aged 55 or older will represent a full 25% of the nation's workforce, with the fastest annual growth rates among those aged 65 and older. And yet, before Primetime Partners was founded by Abby Levy and venture legend Alan Patricof of Greycroft and Apax Partners fame, there were no venture firms focused solely on aging and enabling the technologies, products, and businesses we'll need to support an aging population.
