On November 7th 1974, a children's nanny Sandra Rivett was murdered at the home of the family in which she was in service.It was the Lucan family.Lord Lucan - her suspected killer - may have been targeting his estranged wife. There are parts of the TV and movie making process that can be a lost art....On this episode we go behind the curtain on the TV show 'HiJack' which is streaming on Apple TV+ now.Hijack is the story of business negotiator Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) who is compelled to use his skills to save passengers on a hijacked airplane in the seven-part thriller created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith.Think of it kind of like 24 on airplane, it's that kind of intense.  It's got a very unique title design to it's opening sequence and it really adds to the layers of the show. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Main Title Designer James Robertson about what goes into the art of doing something like this.  We ask him how long it takes, the kind of creative freedoms they have and so very much more....Hijack is on Apple TV now.

La première ? Wilma McCann, 28 ans, mère de quatre enfants. La suivante ? Emily Jackson, avec 52 coups de couteau, etc… Les enquêteurs suspectent ses femmes d'être des prostituées. L'histoire continue sur plusieurs années, c'est en 1978 que la police a enfin une percée dans l'enquête. Des indices laissés par le tueur lui-même, avec une cassette audio et des lettres. La chasse à l'homme continue… Côté acteurs, c'est Toby Jones qui incarne l'inspecteur Hoban. Il fait preuve d'empathie envers les victimes et va vouloir aller au bout des choses. S'il commence l'enquête, il laissera sa place à d'autres inspecteurs par la suite, notamment George Oldfied (David Morrissey) qui prendra la relève. Il y aura des ratés tout au long de l'enquête, avec des erreurs, de la négligence policière, mais aussi des faux indices. Ce fait divers qui a demandé la coopération de nombreux policiers montre aussi le manque de technologie malgré toute leur bonne volonté, et parfois leurs maladresses. À l'époque, tout était écrit à la main et les références croisées prenaient du temps à compiler. La police a ainsi perdu des années avant d'attraper le coupable. Mais elle finira bien par l'attraper. On est loin d'un thriller sensationnel avec des scènes violentes et gores, The Long Shadow opte pour un rythme plus lent, avec des moments d'émotions de la part des victimes mais aussi des policiers qui réalisent leurs erreurs. Les crédits finaux montrent les conséquences de ces crimes des années plus tard, tant sur le côté de la protection des victimes que sur les erreurs policières. Mo LeaThe Long Shadow, written by George Kay, and based on Michael Bilton's book Wicked Beyond Belief, is a seven-part ITV drama based on the police hunt for a sadistic necrophiliac who terrorised women in the north of England throughout the late 1960s and 1970s. With the consultation and blessing of the families of his victims, the drama lays bare the violent misogyny and prejudicial policing that came to characterise the hunt for the so-called Yorkshire Ripper. I talk to Mo about how she survived a near-fatal attack by Sutcliffe in 1980. Mo Lea was an art student in the city when she became a target for the serial killer, Peter Sutcliffe.Mo, who had moved to Leeds from Liverpool, was out with friends in a pub in the Chapeltown area of the city, planning her 21st birthday.It was October 25, 1980, and the friends went their separate ways just after 10pm, as Mo decided to walk through the university campus to catch the bus. A man approached behind her, hit the back of her head with a hammer and attacked with a screwdriver. Her life was saved by a passing couple who heard her screams.She was assaulted so violently that her parents failed to recognise her in the hospital, her jaw broken, her face bloodied and bruised.At the time, Sutcliffe had murdered 12 women and left another seven for dead. Several months later, while recuperating at home in Liverpool, she recognised Sutcliffe on the TV as the man that attacked her. 'When you have had trauma like that, it gives you an edge,' she told me. 'If you've been close to death, you feel you've been granted this freedom to live. Editors - David Webb and Robert Frost HIJACK editors David Webb and Robert Frost have logged many sky miles together in the cutting room, but mostly with Rob as David's assistant.  That all changed when David tapped Rob to take on full editing duties for their previous collaboration, LITVINENKO (2022); a critically acclaimed series directed by Jim Field Smith for ITV. HIJACK is a seven-part miniseries created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith that premiered June 28th, 2023 on Apple TV+.  It is a pseudo real-time account of the hijacking of Kingdom Air Flight KA29, during its seven-hour journey from Dubai to London.  On board the flight is corporate negotiator Sam Nelson (Idris Elba), who tries to use his professional skills to save everyone on board. David Webb David Webb is Partner, Managing Director and a film editor at Final Cut Limited.  Webb cut his teeth on music videos in the early 2000's for George Michael, Paul McCartney and Robbie Williams among others.  David also collaborated with Edgar Wright on many of his early music videos, including Mint Royale's 'Blue Song'.  That video was notably the inspiration for Wright's film, 'Baby Driver'.  David spent a decade cutting commercials before moving into long-form at the request of HIJACK director Jim Field-Smith and has collaborated with Jim ever since.  Together the two have worked on; THE WRONG MANS, ENDEAVOUR, CRIMINAL, DEFENDING THE GUILTY and TRUTH SEEKERS.  David's work can also be seen in the coming-of-age series, SEX EDUCATION. Lorsque le vol KA29, qui relie Dubaï à Londres en sept heures, se voit détourné par un groupe de terroristes non identifiés, personne n'est au courant. À son bord, Sam Nelson, un négociateur à succès, fait appel à ses compétences dans l'espoir de sauver les passagers. En même temps, au sol, les autorités officielles sentent que quelque chose cloche. Qu'on se le dise, l'acteur anglais est meilleur dans un registre à haute tension plutôt que dans une comédie. Dans Hijack, les 200 et quelques passagers du vol KA29 proviennent d'horizons différents, mais vous allez reconnaître plusieurs têtes familières : Ben Miles en pilote, Kate Philipps en hôtesse de l'air, et au sol, d'autres visages reconnaissables Max Beesley, Eve Myles, Archie Panjabi, etc. Le gratin des acteurs anglais pour une grosse production Apple. Pourquoi ce groupe a-t-il détourné ce vol précisément ? Sam tente de commencer les négociations pour épargner des vies et pendant ce temps-là, son ex-femme, alors que personne ne sait ce qui arrive sur le vol, est au courant que quelque chose cloche. Le huis clos imprévisible gagne en tension au fur et à mesure, petit à petit, Sam va trouver des moyens pour arranger les passagers et les pirates de l'air sans victime collatérale. Avec le nombre de passagers et de criminels, il est difficile de plonger dans le passé de tous les personnages, mais ce n'est pas nécessaire. Le rythme est saccadé et le spectateur va être aussi perdu et stressé que les passagers. On sort parfois de l'avion pour être au sol, mais pourtant le suspens court toujours. Ce thriller efficace réussit sur tous les fronts, que ce soit dans l'enquête au sol pour comprendre quel est le cerveau derrière tout ça, que dans les négociations en l'air. Mathieu Lamboley schreef de muziek bij de Franse Netflix-serie Lupin - een misdaadserie van George Kay, met een prachtige rol voor Omar Sy, die internationaal doorbrak met zijn optreden in de film Intouchables. De serie gaat over de Franse meesterinbreker Arsène Lupin, een fictief figuur dat voor Frankrijk is, wat Sherlock Holmes is voor Engeland: niets minder dan een legende. We vinden Arsène Lupin is een personage in de boeken van schrijver Maurice Leblanc, geschreven tussen 1905 tot 1939. Lupin is een hoogopgeleide, uiterst slimme inbreker die iedereen om de tuin weet te leiden. Voor acteur Omar Sy was deze rol een droom die uitkomt naar hij zelf zegt: ‘Als ik een Engelsman zou zijn, zou ik James Bond willen spelen. Maar ik ben Frans, dus mijn droomrol kan alleen maar Arsène Lupin zijn. Hij is slim, hij is elegant, hij is grappig en hij is fysiek.' De hedendaagse Lupin heet in de serie Assane Diop, hij is een charmante en behendige oplichter die zijn trucs en inbraakvaardigheden uit de Lupin-boeken heeft geleerd, en dat maakt de serie even spannend als luchtig. Helaas was er het nodige aan onfatsoenlijke reacties op social media - stel je voor, een zwarte acteur die er met een klassiek Franse literair personage vandoor gaat! Maar daar lijkt Sy, die kind is van een Senegalese vader en een moeder uit Mauretanië, zich gelukkig weinig van aan te trekken. Fijne en soms pittige muziek van de Franse componist Mathieu Lamboley, voor wie dit zijn eerste echt grote productie is die ook over de hele wereld te zien is. Mathieu Lamboley werd geboren in 1980, hij is de broer van actrice Juliette Lamboley. Hij studeerde in Parijs aan het Conservatoire national supérieur de musique, en daar won hij ook al meteen de nodige prijzen. ZIjn eerste filmmuziek schreef hij in 2004, voor een animatiefilm van Étienne Chaillou. Inspiratie haalt Lamboley uit de grote klassieke componisten: Ravel, Debussy en Strawinsky, maar ook uit de muziek van filmcomponist John Williams. En inmiddels heeft hij voor zeker 20 films en meer dan tien televisieproducties de muziek geschreven. En nu dan dus de muziek voor die mooie Netflix-serie Lupin. Binnenkort te verwachten: de muziek voor het Franse drama Le quai de Ouistreham van Emmanuel Carrière met onder meer Juliette Binoche. A produção registrou picos de audiência da plataforma não apenas na França, onde se passa a trama, mas nos Estados Unidos, México, Polônia, Vietnã, Filipinas e também no Brasil – onde o público foi conquistado pela atuação de Omar Sy e a temática racial da saga. “Lupin” conta a história de Assane Diop, interpretado pelo ator francês Omar Sy, que, para vingar a morte do pai, se inspira nas aventuras de Arsène Lupin, "o cavalheiro ladrão". O personagem criado no início do século passado - célebre por sua capacidade de mudança de identidade e camuflagem para a prática de delitos - é protagonista de várias obras do escritor francês Maurice Leblanc, ícone da cultura popular francesa. Na série, o imigrante senegalês radicado em Paris, Babakar Diop, transmite ao filho adolescente, Assane, a paixão pelos livros de Maurice Leblanc e o personagem Arsène Lupin. Ver o sucesso e o talento de um grande ator como Omar Sy no cinema francês – que ainda é predominantemente branco – é muito importante. São questões que sensibilizam os brasileiros porque a gente vive um momento de instabilidade política e que vem colocando em xeque a vida das pessoas”, observa. Bianca Peter percebe que mesmo que a trama se passe em Paris, inspirada em um ícone da cultura popular francesa, os brasileiros se enxergam muito facilmente com a saga de Assane Diop. “O protagonismo de Omar Sy, que é muito carismático e cujos filmes fizeram muito sucesso no Brasil, atrai as pessoas a conhecer obras que são conhecidas pelos franceses. Ao mesmo tempo, ‘Lupin’ apresenta elementos novos, como a perspectiva de questionar a justiça, que é o acontece com esse personagem que foi criado especialmente para a série da Netflix, com o qual o público de outros países tanto se identificam.” O Ladrão de Casaca No Brasil, o livro mais conhecido de Maurice Leblanc é “O Ladrão de Casaca”, originalmente publicado em 1907. É desta época que data a a fascinação pelo personagem Arsène Lupin na França, que atravessa décadas e, com o sucesso da série da Netflix, cruzou também fronteiras. “Se Arsène Lupin fascina tanto é porque, nos livros de Maurice Leblanc, ele é apresentado como uma espécie de super-humano, um indivíduo com uma força física e inteligência extraordinárias. Tem uma afirmação famosa de um de seus adversários que diz: ‘Como atacá-lo? Ele é inatacável. Como feri-lo? Ele é invulnerável’”, aponta o professor de Lngua e Literatura Francesa, Cédric Hannedouche, especialista em cultura popular e na obra de Maurice Leblanc. Hannedouche também destaca a complexidade de Arsène Lupin, de personalidade e físico camaleônicos. “Ele tem uma identidade proteiforme, transforma sua aparência e camufla seu rosto, utiliza diversas fantasias para isso. É um personagem que atiça a curiosidade por sua ambivalência, como Han Solo, de Star Wars, ou Sirius Black, do universo de Harry Potter, ou, ainda mais recentemente, temos um belo exemplo com o sucesso de Mandalorian.” Segundo Hannedouche, ambivalência de Arsène Lupin é outra característica que cativa o público. “Lupin é um gentleman ladrão. Ele não tem nada de heróico. Geralmente, um personagem é um ou outro: ou cavalheiro ou criminoso. E por isso nos perguntamos: como um ladrão pode ser apresentado de forma tão simpática?”. O professor lembra que a forma como o personagem foi construído e moldado ao longo de vários anos resultou no Lupin tão célebre e adorado pelos franceses. “Nem todos sabem que Maurice Leblanc começou a produzir obras sobre Lupin em 1905 e continuou durante quase 40 anos, até a sua morte, em 1941. Pouco a pouco ele moralizou o personagem, atribuindo a ele ações heróicas, o transformando em um justiceiro. Ele chega a fazer Lupin a afirmar: ‘liberar os bons, punir os malvados, é isso o que me interessa’". Segunda temporada de Lupin em produção Para os fãs da série, a segunda parte da saga será lançada no segundo semestre deste ano. A Netflix mantém o mistério sobre uma segunda temporada, mas o próprio co-produtor da série, George Kay, já adiantou que a sequência está sendo preparada. Omar Sy, inclusive, já anunciou que espera interpretar Assane Diop durante muito tempo ainda. “Não se começa uma série se não há esperança de várias temporadas. Seria uma loucura isso. Lupin; el famoso ladrón de guante blanco inventado por Maurice LeBlanc a principios del siglo XX, es ahora la inspiración para Omar Sy en esta nueva adaptación francesa. Una serie cuya primera parte nos descubre a Diop, un perspicaz ladrón capaz de adoptar diferentes personalidades para llevar a cabo sus golpes, y que está impulsado por un drama familiar. Luis Pablo Beaurgeard, Mariana Linares Cruz y Trino Camacho hablan del personaje, de la adaptación al París contemporáneo, del actor, famoso por “Intocable” y de otros títulos que se parecen a Lupin: Sherlock y Criminal, del mismo creador, George Kay.

Un episodio que se adentra en el crimen y en la vejez, en la comedia y en las investigaciones policiacas. Luis Pablo Beauregard, Mariana Linares Cruz y Trino Camacho invitan al periodista Carlos Puig para hablar de Criminal, una serie transeuropea que tiene un bloque francés, un bloque inglés, un bloque español y un bloque alemán.
