Rory McIlroy is my hero of the week. Watch the Netflix doco-series Full Swing. Rory features in one episode and comes across very well. He said he feels like a sacrificial lamb, which he is. No one has spoken out more strongly for the PGA Tour. No one has been more passionate about defending the sport he loves, for the right reasons. He says in the series that he may well have let it go a bit far and said some stuff that might have been a shade aggressive. In that, I think he is right. I'm all about people charting their own course in life. If the Saudi's set up a tournament and offer you money and you want to go, then good luck to you. You're not letting anyone down, unless you decide you are letting yourself down. As a PGA Tour supporter you can be surprised, you can be disappointed and you can disagree. But that is about where it should end. We are not the arbiters of other's destinies and McIlroy, certainly, was never in any position to tell people what to do, or even overtly judge them for doing so. But, that said, you admire him for his passion. His argument was based on the love of the sport, the competition and all the good things it had given him. So you can fully appreciate how gutted he must have been this week to wake up to the news the Saudi's have, basically, bought the game. But even then, the PGA Tour poster boy could see, and this speaks volumes about who he is, that ultimately it was good for the game. A game that grows is good for everyone. We get far too exercised about the Saudi's. People visit Saudi Arabia every year, people play sport in Saudi Arabia every year. Lydia Ko was there a few months back. You don't have to connect politics to sport, any more than you have to connect politics to tourism. If we did that, we would never have been to Fiji, China or any of a couple of dozen mainstream tourist destinations. If we interacted only with the politically, morally, socially and fiscally pure then we would interact with next to no one. If Rory of all people can forgive, get it and move on - then so can we.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I have a hero of the week this week. In the wash up from the local body elections, and although very excited about the country's newest and youngest Mayor 23-year-old Ben Bell of Gore, which is quite an achievement - my bouquet goes to Rotorua's new Mayor Tania Tapsell. Absolute go-getter, smart, considered, hardworking and really passionate about her city. She's the sort of Mayor you feel happy for, irrespective of any political direction, just because they feel like they've earned it. They deserve to be where they are, they're in it for the right reasons. Not platitudes and empty words, but for the real and right reasons. She's gone hard all along on emergency housing and it speaks volumes she got voted in because that's exactly what the people of Rotorua are focused on right now. It was a travesty of former Mayor and Labour stalwart Steve Chadwick to allow emergency housing to get so bad in Rotorua. She's left an absolute headache and a nightmare for Tapsell to try to undo. But within her first week in the job she's already fired a salvo at the Government over its demands for landlords to bring houses up to healthy homes standards, while allowing vulnerable families to stay in unhealthy and sometimes unsafe emergency motels. So it's one rule for us and one for the Government it seems. All this at a huge cost to the taxpayer, as we know. Well sadly the Minister Carmel Sepuloni didn't know exactly. When asked in an interview what it's costing the taxpayer, she said “a lot”. Which isn't that helpful. It's also disturbing she doesn't know that figure off the top of her head instantly, but that's what's to be expected from a Government obsessed with spending other people's money and not caring too much about having any accountability for it. The most disturbing thing Sepuloni does is defend the emergency housing. How can anyone standing on what used to be Golden Mile and is now derogatorily referred to as MSD strip, look at that, and defend it? When challenged on the shocking condition and accommodation standards of some of these motels that the Ggovernment's funding, Sepuloni said basically it's not their problem. She pushed it back on council and said it's a council issue, those regulations happen at council level. So let's get this straight - the Government handed the city of Rotorua this problem, and it is a problem, it's a big undeniable shambles of a problem, they then made the problem worse over a sustained period of years and then they sit back and go, ‘oh now that's your problem Rotorua'. They're going to ‘have conversations' with Iwi and council apparently. And I'm just so glad for Rotorua that the person they'll be having those ‘conversations' with, is Tania Tapsell. I have a feeling it will be a darn sight tougher for the Government than dealing with Steve Chadwick. So I wish Tania well, she's agitating for action on this – among other things, within her first hundred days in office, and I hope she continues to get the momentum and drive she's going to need for this battle. Not just on the emergency motels but all the crime associated with them and with getting back Rotorua's long held reputation as the fantastic tourist attraction it is.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This is the story of a truly heroic American. Air Force Master Sergeant John A. Chapman demonstrated the values of true American heroism. During the 2002 engagement at the Battle of Takur Ghar, Chapman placed himself in the line of direct enemy fire to provide cover to allow his teammates the opportunity to retreat. MSgt. Chapman ultimately gave his life for his country on that fateful day. Chapman was initially awarded the Air Force Cross for his actions, but his award was upgraded to the Medal of Honor, making Chapman the first Airman to receive the medal since the Vietnam war. This week's American Hero of the Week is one that I am honored to share with you. In the face of adversity, Dorie Miller rose above the call of duty and saved lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Credited as being the first African American to receive the Navy Cross, Miller risked his life to man an anti aircraft gun as well as render aid to his injured crew mates during the attack. Miller would survive that horrific day, but would later make the ultimate sacrifice for his country in the Pacific fighting the Japanese. This weeks American Hero of the Week (AHOW) is an incredible young man who truly exemplifies the sheepdog mentality and the overall American ethos. In July of 2020, 6 year old Bridger Walker heroically jumped in the path of an attacking dog to protect his 4 year old sister. As a result of the attack, Walker received 90 stitches to his face and sustained substantial facial injuries. In the days after the attack, instead of capitalizing on the tragedy to promote fundraising for the family, they instead chose to use the awareness to promote the Wounded Warrior Project and Mission 22. From Willy Wonka-esque adults booze tours to magic shows and castles is how Jessica and Dana spent their week. A rant about people who talk and or film while in any kind of theater, causes Dana to relive the night she just needed to escape at the movies and ended up putting her underwear somewhere else and when Jessica screamed at an entire theater to shut the F up. Rant #2 breaks down the reality of people wearing too much fragrance, and Dana knows someone who touts a "secret signature scent." Jessica knows about perfume turning to powdery musk and the 80's classic Opium that you could taste. Kids Are Amazing Corner is Joshua Beckford, a child prodigy who began attending Oxford at 6 years old. Hero Of The Week is a postal worker who found two missing children. Rave #1 is the Appalachian Bee Collective, retraining out of work coal miners how to become beekeepers who can keep and tend to hives for a new career.
Diese Woche ist Benjamin Hadrigan mein Hero of The Week.
Katharina Stadtler ist diese Woche mein Hero of the Week.

This week we have a surprisingly thoughtful debate about whether or not it is, in fact, okay to punch a Nazi. Our guest is an African American, Mike D, who has been everywhere and has managed everyone from A-list stars to new media up-and-comers. Mike brings his surprisingly thoughtful insight to a debate I originally intended to be focused on various types of attacks Nazis deserve. Speaking of, we created an animated clip from last week's episode (https://rss.madcastmedia.com/bestdebate/34/madcastmedia.com/shows/bestdebate/33) with Chris Ray Gun (https://www.youtube.com/chrisraygun) about the US shoe company that accidentally put swastikas on their boots: https://youtu.be/yuQbkZDbdkE At the heart of the debate this week is the question: do words that incite violence equate to violence? The question was spawned by an incident where someone punched white nationalist, Richard Spencer during an interview: https://youtu.be/H2qYNOYLJOM As always the brilliant Mikey Bolts (https://twitter.com/MikeyBolts) is back on the mix, and Rucka's (https://www.youtube.com/user/itsRucka) dropping his wisdom left and right this episode. Is he due for another promotion? And thanks to everyone who downloaded Candid to check it out. Here's the link for those who haven't: https://becandid.com/ And finally, here's the HERO OF THE WEEK clip where the librarian reminds us of a very important fact: https://youtu.be/DHhy2Gk_xik The voicemail number is: 1-562-58-I-RULE (1-562-584-7853). If there was football this weekend it wasn't very noticeable judging by the media coverage. Yes, we talk about the Greg Hardy situation, recap a quality win over Detroit, preview next week, and finally we reveal our unsung players of the week.
