Thirteen service members along with at least 170 Afghan civilians were murdered by a suicide bomber at Abbey Gate during the evacuation of Afghanistan on August 26, 2021. To add insult to injury, billions of dollars in military equipment was left for the Taliban. Making matters worse, aside from the current Administration ignoring the Gold Star Families for years, our own government is actively funding The Taliban. The lessons we failed to learn from Benghazi came back to haunt us and will continue to do so unless we start holding our institutions and politicians accountable. I am joined once again by ex-CIA targeter Sarah "Superbad" Adams and Benghazi hero Dave "Boon" Benton to share their investigative findings on how our institutions have failed us. Former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and Afghanistan War veteran Mikael Cook joins us to talk about the August 2021 evacuation of Afghanistan. Mikael was a part of the #DigitalDunkirk team that saved thousands of Afghan allies who had been left behind. He was personally responsible for the evacuation of 20 of our allies. “Life and Death at Abbey Gate” by Mikael Cook provides a harrowing account of the chaotic final days of the U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan in August 2021. The book centers on the efforts of an ad-hoc group of American veterans and other personnel who mobilized to help evacuate Afghan allies and civilians amid the Taliban's rapid takeover of Kabul. The narrative begins with the formation of the #DigitalDunkirk initiative, a civilian-led effort named after the World War II evacuation of Dunkirk, which saw thousands of people working tirelessly to coordinate evacuations using encrypted messaging apps and real-time intelligence. These individuals included CIA and NSA agents, military veterans, and legislative aides, who collectively formed a formidable network aimed at rescuing those left behind. Cook's story is told through multiple perspectives, including his own and that of his Afghan friend Abdul, as well as members of the 2/1 Marines stationed at Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA). The Marines at Abbey Gate faced intense conditions, working under immense pressure and witnessing scenes that brought many to tears. Their work culminated in the tragic suicide bombing by an ISIS-K attacker, which killed 13 U.S. service members and numerous Afghan civilians. The book highlights the logistical and tactical challenges of the evacuation, criticizing the decision to abandon Bagram Airfield, which left HKIA as the sole evacuation point. This move is depicted as a strategic blunder, complicating the already perilous operation. Throughout “Life and Death at Abbey Gate,” Cook emphasizes the dedication and bravery of those involved in the evacuation, portraying their efforts as a testament to the U.S. military's commitment to its allies. The book underscores the emotional and physical toll on everyone involved and serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of war and the complexities of military withdrawal . #afganistan #veterans #kabulairport2021  #veteran #interview #vietnam #vet #militaryhistory #veteransbreakfastclub #vbc #virtualevents #virtual #zoom #zoomevents #liveevent #webinar #military #army #usarmy #navy #usnavy #marinecorps #marines #airforce #pilot #aviators #coastguard #nonprofit #501c3 #history #militaryveterans #veteransstories #veteranshistory #veteraninterview #veteranshistoryproject #veteransoralhistory #veteranowned #militaryretirees #armyretirees #navyretirees #warstories #vietnam #vietnamwar #vietnamveterans #koreanwar #coldwar #greatestgeneration #wwii #ww2 #worldwarii #worldwar2 #war #americanhistory #oralhistory #podcast #scuttlebutt #thescuttlebutt #humor #storytelling #headlines #news #roundtable #breakfast #generation911 #happyhour

A new policy simplifying immigration for international travelers in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will create more business opportunities and promote the coordinated development of airports in the southern region, according to officials from the GBA. The "Fly from Hong Kong via Zhuhai" policy, which took effect on Tuesday, allows travelers arriving at Zhuhai Jinwan Airport on the Chinese mainland to travel via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Hong Kong International Airport to fly to overseas destinations without going through immigration in Hong Kong. The same service applies in reverse, with people flying into Hong Kong from overseas being able to transfer to mainland cities via the HZMB and Zhuhai Airport without the need to undergo Hong Kong immigration procedures. The project not only provides more options for international travel, but also plays an active role in supporting the development of the GBA and the building of a world-class airport cluster by giving full play to the connecting role of the HZMB and taking advantage of the complementary resources of Hong Kong and Zhuhai airports," said Vivian Cheung Karfay, chief operating officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong. While Hong Kong International Airport has direct connections with nearly 200 international destinations, Zhuhai Airport has air routes with nearly 90 mainland destinations. To ensure smooth implementation of the policy, a designated channel has been set up at the checkpoint for inspection of passengers, said Lin Meihong, a senior border control official at the HZMB. Shuttle bus services will be provided to travelers for transit flights. Mainland passengers traveling overseas will be able to board the bus at the Zhuhai Port of the HZMB after completing immigration and go directly to the Skypier Terminal of HKIA, where they will then head to the boarding gates of their flights. Michael Yuen, general manager of hub development at AAHK, said that currently there is one bus running from the HZMB to HKIA every hour from 10 am to 7 pm, but the frequency of bus services will be increased in accordance with the number of travelers in the future. The development of the aviation industry in the GBA is gaining momentum, with the 11-city cluster comprising nine Guangdong cities plus the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions ramping up efforts to build a world-class airport cluster to fuel business growth. Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area n.

Afghanistan's Hamid Karzai International Airport, or HKIA, was the center of the world's attention following the announcement of America's retrograde from Afghanistan over the course of 2021. The images we saw- desperate civilians throwing children over the wall into the arms of Marines and Airmen. The terrifying images of the aftermath of the attack at Abbey Gate. Videos of desperate Afghanis falling from aircraft in their last ditch attempt to escape the Taliban for anywhere other than Afghanistan. It is a time that has been burned into the brains of all American Service Members. Recently, Congress started hearing some accounts of what happened over the course of those 4 months. From the breakdown in the chain of command to the lack of support, to the tragedy of losing 13 Americans in a mass casualty event- even 2 years later, this event has captivated the hearts, minds and attention of of the American Public. Finally, the Pararescue Team Senior Enlisted Leader, Sean, and Team Sergeant, Chris, are here to tell their story of exactly what happened in the lead up to the event, exactly what happened in the most unsure time in all of the Global War on Terror, and the days and weeks that followed. In the end, 96 Distinguished Flying Crosses were awarded to the pilots, crew chiefs, loadmasters maintaners and support personnel for their support to Operation ALLIES REFUGE. However, the ground team- who were credited with the rescue and movement of tens of thousands of cvilians- recieved far less recognition. At the time of this writing, the highest medal bestowed on the ground team is a Bronze Star with Valor, and only two of them. The struggle continues at the highest levels to recognize their sacrifices appropriately. Thank you doesn't begin to encapsulate how appreciative the Ones Ready team is for Sean and Chris taking this time to highlight just how capable, relevant, valiant and professional the Air Force's Rescue Community is- but thank you is the best we can do, and we mean it sincerely.  What was your favorite part of the podcast? From 15+ years as an Army Ranger to deploying in Iraq and Afghanistan 15 times, to becoming a film military advisor, and now Senior Content Production Manager at Black Rifle Coffee Company, this week's Team Never Quit Podcast guest, Jariko Denman, has lived a very interesting life. After 54 months of combat experience as part of a Joint Special Operations Task Force, Jariko speaks with Marcus about what it was like to be on the ground at HKIA during the American withdrawal from Afghanistan. While he has retired from active duty, Jariko still leads quite an adventure, such as joining with a team of guys who will be skydiving in each of the seven continents over seven days. In this episode you will hear: Wherever something's happening, I just don't want to miss out. As a retired guy, I have a lot of freedom. My dad talked to me like a drill sergeant would talk to you, so I had a certain amount of bandwidth. Ranger school sucks, but it's kind of a speed bump – you just gotta do this to move to the next level. In a 90-day rotation, we'd do 120 raids. We're locusts. We just come in and destroy. When I got out, I never really decided to do anything. I just rode the wave. As a technical advisor for film, I have the freedom to say, “Screw your movie. I'm not gonna be a part of it.” If there were 2 job offers and 1 was a rad action movie and 1 was a true story, I'd do the rad action movie because it's more fun. A true story takes the creativity out of it. I didn't plan on going to Afghanistan for the shit show withdrawal. My function turned into me getting to the gate and plucking as many people out as I could. I had to ask myself: What am I doing here?” Being there in a whole different context was so weird. Coming up soon, me and a team of guys are skydiving in each of the seven continents in seven days. www.BlackRifleCoffee.com www.LegacyExpeditions.net

Combining the team's experiences operating in the same area years prior with the firsthand accounts of the near apocalyptic vibe gripping HKIA, we are able to get a solid grasp on just how nutty the situation was and just how much leadership failed us and our Afghan partners deserving of evacuation. And here we are over a year later with no formal accountability after American and Afghan leaders squandered and tarnished over 20 years of effort and loss. But as the team examines on this episode, it was not all for nothing. Millions of Afghans were given the opportunity to live free of fear and tyrannical zealots. According to the Times, current and former students of AUAF gathered a safe house on Sunday and rode on buses to the Kabul airport. The group was also told the university had given their names to Taliban militants running checkpoints around the airport, the Times reported. “We are all terrified, there is no evacuation, there is no getting out," a 24-year-old sophomore at AUAF told the Times. AUAF president Ian Bickford left the campus when it was shut down shortly after the Taliban takeover of Kabul along with other foreign staff members. Every COVID shot in America remains under the EUA law and thus people have the “option to accept or refuse” them; andEven when an FDA approved COVID shot becomes available, individuals are protected by federal law and many states laws from being forced to get these shots based on their sincere religious beliefs or conscience rights. Despite whether these COVID shots are licensed or not, they cannot be mandatory under Title VII. In general, employee vaccine religious exemption requests must be accommodated, where a reasonable accommodation exists without undue hardship to the employer, pursuant to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Many people hold sincere religious beliefs against taking the COVID shots or taking those derived from or which used at any stage of the development aborted fetal cell lines. Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “The FDA has apparently tried to deceive people by issuing its two confusing letters without proper explanation. Despite the FDA's sleight of hand, there is currently no FDA approved COVID shot available in the United States. Even if there were an FDA approved COVID shot available, people still may request that employers, schools, and the military accommodate their sincerely held religious beliefs.” Gabriel Gipe, Public high school teacher at Inderkum High School in Sacramento, CA had this to say about discipling children: Play clip: https://youtu.be/83b_u5V51U8 Kanye, Kirk Cameron lending support to faith-based crowdfunding nature series 'The Riot and the Dance' https://www.christianpost.com/entertainment/first-faith-based-nature-series-the-riot-and-the-dance.html According to the Christian Post: "The Riot and the Dance" is following in the footsteps of “The Chosen" by inviting viewers to invest in bringing to life a nature series that shows creation was intentionally designed by a divine Creator. Dubbing itself the “first high production” nature series, the show specializes in acknowledging God's hand in the beauty of nature. While most mainstream nature series ignore or deny God's involvement in creation, “The Riot and the Dance” is overt in its Christian messaging. In the show's pilot episode, host Gordon Wilson, a scientist and devout Christian, talks about Jesus and baptism while exploring the beauty of nature. “Working on ‘The Riot and The Dance' is more than a dream come true. For a scientist and animal lover, there's nothing like adventuring in the field. And now, thanks to our fantastic production crew, I can bring millions of families along for the ride, celebrating creation and the Artist behind every fantastic critter,” Wilson, who also hosted the successful documentaries “Earth” and “Water,” said in a statement shared with The Christian Post. He added: “Faith-based nature docs have never had space in the industry. I'm still amazed that such a shake up is really happening, and I'm beyond blessed to be a part of it.” Like the hit series “The Chosen,” which has generated over $70 million in crowdfunding, “The Riot and the Dance” has also partnered with Angel Studios for distribution. Show creators are giving viewers an opportunity to invest in the series. They are hoping to raise $5 million in 30 days to bring season one to life and send the team around the world. The show has also garnered the support of numerous celebrities, including Kirk Cameron, Kanye West, and "The Chosen" creator Dallas Jenkins. Yes, the show is the WEEKLY Havok, but the nature of this week in Afghanistan made this the first Bi-Weekly Havok episode. I went solo only because I wanted to present some Cliff Notes on Afghan history as well as take a swing at some low-hanging fruit on the social media BS tree and none of our guests needed to be around for that. Fair warning – at the rate events are unspooling at HKIA, this may turn out to be the Tri-Weekly Havok.   Show Notes Afghanistan by Thomas Barfield Ghost Wars by Steve Coll Directorate S by Steve Coll
