For too long now, parents have had trouble convincing their children that rock and metal are the way to go, not pop and the likes. It is a never ending battle of guidance, but one that is generally destined to failure from the outset. Parents the world over have agonised on how to introduce decent music to their children's lives, and now, thanks to a new band emerging from the US, their prayers may have been answered.By converting Disney classic tunes to the dark side, Metal Mouse are using already known and loved songs for children to their advantage by adding a touch of metal madness to songs from family films such as The Little Mermaid, Frozen and The Lion King. It is an ingenious idea that is sure to at least appeal to the next generation of music lovers.Fronted by American Idol alum James Durbin, Metal Mouse taps into Disney nostalgia with the flair and theatrics of glam rock. What began as a “what-if” idea has struck a chord, especially with millennial women who grew up on Disney - and men who never gave up on hair metal.Durbin and band creator/manager Alex Pels sat down with HEAVY to discuss this exciting new creation and how Metal Mouse plans to convert as many youngsters as possible to real music."We're trying to make the connection between heavy and Disney," Pels explained. "James and I both love metal. We're both involved with tons of other metal kinds of music, but we realised that the Disney songs - in addition to being excellently written by great songwriters - the themes and the chord progressions and everything else lend themselves to a heavy architecture."It's such a simple idea, but one which has never been tried on this scale before."I've been doing a lot of heavy metal in the last five or six… even longer than that, eight years," Durbin relayed. "I was with Quiet Riot for a couple of years and have put out a couple of heavy metal albums over the last few years with different projects. So, metal has been seeping through my system. It's difficult, because sometimes there can be such a thing as too much metal - a metal overload - and metal isn't widely accepted by everybody, but here's a perfect way to make it accessible to people. With songs that are already known mixed with the classic 80s music and hair of the day, mixed with this beautifully arranged music… it's a blessing."In the full interview we discuss the genesis of Metal Mouse, how easy Disney songs convert to metal, the selection process for songs, the live show and what it looks and sounds like, future plans for Metal Mouse and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

The topic? Tribute bands! Hear why these stellar musicians LOVE their cover bands, and the lengths they go to convey the vibe, spirit, look and sound of their respective bands! James Durbin shares stories from the ultimate cover band experience, American Idol, what it was like fronting Quiet Riot, the advice he got from Judas Priest's Rob Halford, and why yacht rock is his favorite genre of music to cover. Rich Ward shares the secret to Guardians of the Jukebox's success, and explains how they put their 80s set list together. Femme Halen's Roseann Aldrete talks about all the studying and practice she does to get that Eddie Van Halen sound and tone down, her favorite EVH solos to play, and the most difficult songs for her in the Van Halen catalogue. And Nick Rich of the Fooz Fighters reveals why he gave up his Mick Jagger gig to take on the Dave Grohl role fulltime, how he manages to maintain that Grohl energy onstage, and why he felt it was important to grow out his hair and get the same arm tattoos as Dave. Hello once again everyone I'm your host Ray Shasho and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends. Alan Parsons worked as assistant engineer on the last two albums by The Beatles and after he qualified as a fully-fledged recording engineer, he went on to work with Paul McCartney and The Hollies among many others. But it was his contribution as engineer on Pink Floyd's classic The Dark Side Of The Moon that really got him world attention. That soon led to striking successes as a producer – notably with Pilot's Magic, John Miles' Highfly and Music and Steve Harley's (Come Up And See Me) Make Me Smile. He also produced the hugely successful Year Of The Cat album with Al Stewart and two albums with American prog rock band Ambrosia. In 1975 he met Eric Woolfson who not only became his manager but joined forces with Alan as a songwriting and performing partner for what became known as The Alan Parsons Project and a string of hit albums. Parson's most recent studio release is entitled From the New World and features the classic sounds Parsons has become known for in his impressive career, with progressive, symphonic, and classic rock elements all touched upon on this stunning album. Guest appearances from the likes of renowned guitarist and singer Joe Bonamassa, Tommy Shaw of Styx, vocalist David Pack (Ambrosia), and vocalist James Durbin add wonderful atmosphere to the stunning performances by Alan and his incredible backing band. Jeff Fabb grew up on Long Island in New York and started drumming as an 11 year old. By the time he was 20, he made the move to Los Angeles to chase his musical dreams. Being 3,000 miles from home and starting fresh in a big city didn't deter him or his ambitions of playing professionally. After finding success and several tours with In This Moment, he joined James Durbin's band. In 2013, he got a call for some fill-in shows with Black Label Society. About a year later, the call came to officially join BLS and he hasn't looked back since. On episode 130, Jamie and Jeff discuss his entire career, catch up on the latest Black Label Society news, and talk extensively on why being grateful and having humility is so important in the music industry. Jeff is one of the great guys in the business and we know you'll love this interview.

James Durbin & I have a conversation about how he coped with 2020, his 1st brews, the soundtrack to his youth, what he learnt on American Idol, how he lured Zakk Wylde on Idol, being a spokesperson for Autism & Tourette's Syndrome, his late night adventures with Chris Jericho, his time with Quiet Riot, why he left Quiet Riot, The Beast Awakens, if he has ever listened to extreme metal, touring backyards & his hangover cure. Throughout this interview, James was drinking Sierra Nevada 's "Hazy Little Thing IPA" while I enjoyed Le Bazaar - Brasserie Artisanale inc.'s "Wow". This Non-Alcoholic NEIPA it poured out with a light veiled haze, radiated pineapple on the nose, it slammed a lightly sweet somewhat tangy finish & it is ultra refreshing. It is quite a unique brew & it is absolutely delicious. This is a Heavy Montreal presents Vox&Hops episode! Heavy Montreal is Montreal's premier metal promoter. "Welcome To My Mind" is the quote of James Durbin in his song SMACKDOWN. So we do exactly that because today's episode we interview James Durbin. Mr. Durbin was in the top 4 on American Idol in 2011. He does not let his autism stop him at all; he just "keeps rollin."

Buy the new Tights and Fights shirt at maxfunstore.com! This week, Hal and Lindsey are joined by James Durbin. He’s a known singer, actor and American Idol participant who’s also a HUGE wrestling fan. But a major blindspot in his fandom has been New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 14. For the first time ever, this event was split into two days of extremely long cards. There thankfully was no noticeable drop in match quality across both shows, but it cannot be understated: This is a LOT of wrestling and watching it all will take at least a little bit of patience. In that spirit, we take a look at some of the major matches, including the champ-champ efforts of Tetsuya Naito, the heelish tactics of Jay White and KENTA and discuss whether or not Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho’s appearances mean we should expect more collaborations between NJPW and AEW. The Three Count James put over The New Day Podcast Feel the Power. Lindsey put over Jushin “Thunder” Liger’s retirement ceremony. Julian put over the press conference with Jushin and Tiger Mask. Congratulations! You survived WrestleMania week! Hal and Danielle are joined by James Durin. He’s the lead singer of the band Quiet Riot. As a kid, he had a hard time being comfortable in who he was. But through the character-driven aspects of wrestling, he learned to express himself and find tons of new career avenues. NXT TakeOver: New York Johnny Gargano stands tall as the NXT Champion! He along with Shayna Baszler, the War Raiders and Velveteen Dream hold the gold of WWE’s yellow and black brand. With this year’s post-TakeOver featuring fewer call-ups to the main roster than usual, how should WWE balance building up NXT its own promotion and making sure their budding stars have the biggest possible platform to entertain? WrestleMania Happy Ice Cream Christmas! What a show it was. The culmination of KofiMania. The return of Roman Reigns. The coronation of Becky Lynch. The slaying of the Beast. The team will take a wandering look at a show that was incredibly lengthy, but also delivered tons of fun moments to keep everyone engaged. What was the deal with the finish of the main event? How many tears were shed for the new WWE Champion? How did the long runtime affect our enjoyment of the entire program? All that and so much more. For our eleventh episode, we kick the dial up to eleven! Tony and Jim are joined in studio by Producer/Songwriter/Rock Star extrordinaire James Michael to run down the HomeGrown Hits Top Ten. James brings his songwriting and production sensibilities to bear on our charts, giving a short commentary on each song. He drives home the point that songwriting and song structure should always trump production quality when crafting and recording a tune. James Michael is the producer, songwriter, and mixer of many chart-topping rock and pop hits of the past decade. He is a founding member (along with Nikki Sixx) and lead vocalist of Sixx:AM. The band's debut album, which James produced, contained the No. 1 Billboard rock track of 2008, "Life is Beautiful". He produced and co-wrote Mötley Crüe's last studio album, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums. He has written for and produced artists such as Papa Roach, Alanis Morissette, James Durbin, Hinder, and Kelly Clarkson. James spoke to us just prior to heading out on tour to promote the latest Sixx:AM album, "Modern Vintage". [Recorded 6 January 2015]
James Durbin finished 4th on Season 10 of "American Idol." That was the same year Y2J competed on "Dancing With The Stars" at the sound stage next door. They had many LA adventures together while competing... and you'll hear some of the crazier stories! Plus, get a very real look at the behind-the-scenes workings of Idol, the audition process, & what James believes led to his demise! James is also a HUGE pro wrestling fan & had a quite a moment with Hulk Hogan. It's wrestling, singing, DIO, and the trappings of instant fame.
