In this episode of the Big Bad Broadcast, we had a lively discussion filled with humor and insights, featuring our special guests Billy Gardell from "Mike and Molly" and Joshua Jones from Fantasy Pools. "Hallelujah! " The song has sexual connotations!!! Spiritually sexual? , which led to some hilarious exchanges about religion and personal experiences. Joshua Jones shared valuable insights about pool construction and maintenance. We discussed everything from the costs associated with pool maintenance to the peculiarities of tree roots affecting pool integrity. Joshua provided expert advice on common pool issues, including the importance of pH levels in saltwater pools and the necessity of changing pool water periodically. Billy Gardell joined in on the fun, sharing his experiences and adding to the humor. We even touched on the quirks of pool design, including some of the most unusual requests they've received, like a pool shaped like breasts!  Did you hear the one about the Chinese climber who had to be rescued from Mount Everest? In episode three of Grounds for Conversation, Josh and I talk about expressing ourselves on social media. How do we, in our own journeys, practice being genuine and meaningful in our interactions (both through social media and in person)? Josh is one of the most skilled people, in my opinion, at recognizing when the instagram posting and upkeep is becoming just another exercise in vanity. At my selfish request, Josh also offers a short book list - sources of knowledge that he has visited and revisited to better his mindfulness practice. If you enjoy Grounds for Conversation, are piqued by a particular segment of the conversation, or simply want to discuss any of the topics further, feel free to reach out to email provided below. The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat HanhThe Places That Scare You by Pema ChodronThe Simple Feeling of Being by Ken WilberNothing to Grasp by Joan Tollifson (https://www.joantollifson.com/book-nothing-to-grasp.html)Breath by Breath by Larry RosenbergSelf-Compassion by Kristin Neff, Ph.D. (https://self-compassion.org/self-compassion-kristin-neff/)The Little Book of Being by Diana WinstonFully Present Diana WinstonThe Way of Effortless Mindfulness by Loch KellyWhen Breath Becomes Air by Paul KalanithiThe Daily Stoic by Ryan HolidayInstagram: @joshthecoffeepersonContact Us: Gfcpodcast@gmail.com

Rev. Dr. Joshua Jones, pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD joins Rev. Brady Finnern to study Matthew 26:57-75. The religious leaders are gathering the forces and using all of their political chips to take Jesus down. After all the attempts they could only rely on false prophets to bring Him to Pilate. The claim of blasphemy is that He threatened the temple and usurped the religious leaders. When we get to Peter's denial we realize the seriousness from Matthew 5 about oaths and Jesus' words “whoever confesses me before men I will confess before My Father who is in heaven” cut us to the heart. The story of Peter is the reason why we have the cross: broken, weak sinners needing a Savior to become broken and weak for them. “O Christ, You walked the road; Our wand'ring feet must go. You faced with us temptations pow'r; and fought our ancient foe.” (Lutheran Service Book 424, O Christ, You Walked the Road).

The Local Lens is a public health podcast going inside one community's experience with the drug epidemic. Everyone in the town of Stanton, KY sees this drug issue differently from each other, either because of their personal lives or professional roles. This show aims to showcase those different perspectives by having honest, in-depth interviews.Over the course of running The Local Lens, we have heard plenty of people speak about how important having structure is to their recovery (Misty DeHart and Joshua Jones, to name a couple). In our previous episode, Will Arvin does the same.  An interesting detail of Will's comments on work, though, is job training was actually a part of his recovery program. Will went through Addiction Recovery Care's (ARC) Crisis to Career program. They address one of the largest challenges: getting convicted felons back into the workforce. To help us learn more about second chance employment and what ARC does to help, we brought on a second guest: Brandon Hill.Brandon Hill is (at the time of the interview) the deputy chief of staff, and is in long-term recovery, himself. In this episode, we get to hear from two people who have lived through the turnaround and have both experienced how vital employment is to their new lives. Employment does so much for people in recovery. Immediately, it gives people a way to spend their time -- something to focus on. The job also gives a income that will support an independent life. More than anything else, though, a job gives people a sense of worth. It shows people there is potential for a better, brighter future, and that is the goal of ARC. From their website, “We create opportunities for people to discover hope and live their God-given destiny.”These are our people, using our voices, telling our stories, because no one sees it like we do.Keep up with The Local Lens on Facebook, Instagram (@thelocallens_podcast) or on their website. The Local Lens is sponsored by Kentucky Opioid Community Healing (from the Kentucky Rural Health Information Organization) and Powell County CARES (from the Powell County Health Department).Find Powell County CARES on social media:https://www.facebook.com/powellcountycaresInstagram: @powellcountycares
