This week we delve into the life and career of singer-songwriter Kendra Erika. We dig deep into her musical beginnings, and she reveals her unique entry into the world of music, which is marked by the challenge of being born to deaf parents, thus shaping her early understanding of sound and silence. Will Pol' and Patrik make a special guest appearance in her next music video? Kendra shares a pivotal moment from her childhood at eight years old when a German opera singer recognized her potential and guided her, fostering her early passion for music. Lots of laughs ensue over shared anecdotes about musical abilities and limitations, with Pol' and Patrik joking about their own vocal talents, or lack thereof. The conversation shifts to a more serious tone as Kendra discusses the mechanics of her career progression, from her strategic use of a firm that helps artists climb the Billboard charts to her geographical moves between the East Coast and Los Angeles. She outlines the demanding travel and the ambitious grind that defined her pre-Covid career trajectory. Kendra also touches on her creativity during the Covid pandemic, detailing the inspiration behind her "Song of Hope," which she aimed to be a unifying anthem reminiscent of the iconic '80s hit "We Are the World." She performs a snippet of this song, demonstrating her vocal depth influenced by her classical training. The hosts commend her achievements and delve into her creative process, discussing her favorite works and the stories behind her music videos, such as the visually striking "Avalanche" video featuring an ice-sculpted piano. Kendra opens up about the challenges and realities of the music industry, including an unfortunate encounter with Nick Jonas at the Grammys, which offers insight into the often glossed-over aspects of celebrity interactions. She candidly discusses the need for authenticity and openness as an artist, especially when dealing with fans and fellow artists. Kendra's narrative is one of determination and authenticity, navigating the complexities of the music industry while staying true to her artistic vision and personal values. She discusses her collaborations, including a notable project with Olivia Newton-John's daughter, Chloe Lattanzi and her ongoing commitment to evolving her sound and message. Our "Haute Topics" cover recent events in the music and fashion worlds, providing a spirited and insightful commentary that highlights their diverse perspectives. Kendra's presence brings a unique blend of personal and professional insights, making this episode a compelling blend of humor, candid discussion, and profound storytelling. Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Kendra Erika over Zoom video! South Florida recording artist Kendra Erika is set to release her new single “Song Of Hope” to kick off the new year on January 22nd. This song is perfect for the start of 2021 and gives fans hope for all the new possibilities’ in the New Year. “Song Of Hope” follows the success of Kendra’s recent singles “So Fly,” and “Avalanche” whose music videos boast Kendra’s highest numbers to date with over a Million views on YouTube collectively! The success of her recent singles follow a path Kendra started at the beginning of 2020 with her single “Break the Wheel” that peaked in the Top Ten on the Billboard Dance Chart which was Kendra’s fifth track to do so, following her 2019 #1 hit single “Self-Control!”“Song Of Hope” which was co-written by Kendra alongside Charlie Midnight (Billy Joel, James Brown, Joni Mitchell) & Jan Fairchild (Mary J. Blige, Most Def, N.E.R.D), and co-produced by Midnight and Fairchild, is the perfect song to bring people into 2021 after a chaotic 2020. When asked about her new single Kendra said, “‘Song of Hope’ was the first song I wrote when we shut down initially. Of course, Charlie Midnight, Jan Fairchild, and I wrote this one virtually. But the one thing about this song is that it's that beacon of light at the end of the tunnel during these trying times. It's a call to action for the world to be restored and for power to be given to the people.”Given the message of “Song of Hope” Kendra chose to align herself with world renowned charity War Child. War Child is a humanitarian organization that has been empowering children, women, and families across the globe to overcome the brutal impact of war and violence for over 20 years. Through this partnership Kendra will be donating a percentage of her profits of “Song of Hope” to War Child, in addition to bringing awareness to the important work the charity does throughout the promotion of her new single. Around the release of “Song of Hope” War Child will be using the single on their social and promotional tools as the song’s message speaks perfectly to the mission on the charity. When asked about this new partnership with Kendra Erika for her new single “Song of Hope”, War Child Director Barbara Harmer said, “We are thrilled to partner with Kendra for the release of her new single. The message in her song speaks so clearly to War Child’s work empowering vulnerable children and families around the world. Partnerships like this one help us to continue to provide war-affected children with essential programs that allow them to have hope and look towards brighter futures.” Helping children/ young people is something that Kendra sees as one of the most important things to the future success of our society, so when the opportunity to connect with War Child came about, Kendra knew it was the perfect charity to align with for “Song Of Hope.”Kendra Erika is a spicy, bold, artist with a touch of vintage Hollywood complemented by the desire to help others. It’s fitting that Hollywood Life dubbed her “the queen of hearts,” and that she has attracted musical collaborations with the creme de la crème in the industry. She has worked with a bevy of Grammy winning producers such as Charlie Midnight; Jan Fairchild (Elton John, Mary J Blige); John DeNicola (Hungry Eyes and Time of my Life from Dirty Dancing); Damon Sharpe (Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez); Ned Cameron (Kid Ink, Lil Wayne); Mark Mangold (Cher, Michael Bolton); Luigie "LUGO" Gonzalez (Janet Jackson, Madonna, Barbra Streisand); and Ronnie "CHICO" DeCicco (JLo, Kistine W, Rihanna, Britney Spears)" Fans will get the opportunity to hear more of these collaborations with these amazing producers when Kendra releases her forthcoming album scheduled for release later this year on her own label Oystershell Music via a new distribution deal with industry leader Symphonic distribution. We want to hear from you! Party Favorz started right at the time the presidential elections began to heat up as Democrats narrowed their choices down to Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards in 2007. Three elections and two presidents later, we're still here right after the impeachment of (not my president) Trump. During this period, Party Favorz has been part of the revolution in technology like gigabit internet, the iPhone, file sharing all the way to music streaming services. We've also witnessed the evolving trends in dance club music later coined EDM (Electronic Dance Music), which frankly — most of it has been since the 90s but has its roots in the 70s (Donna Summer "I Feel Love"). DISCO IS BACK We're literally on the precipice of coming full-circle and as predicted, Disco is making a comeback in a big way. While Future House, Electro House, Reggaeton, Moonbatan, and Trap have been the mainstays over the past several years and often merged into one another — the eventual return of Disco was inevitable. Indeed, it never went away but was buried in the underground scene and relegated to a select group of tastes that considered themselves connoisseurs of the genre and eventually slapped it with its own new label "Nu Disco." Call it what you want, but it's still Disco. HOW WE DECIDED WHAT SONGS TO INCLUDE For the uninitiated, the Year in Dance series is a compilation of the top Dance Club tracks of the year. In deciding what makes the cut, Party Favorz pulls from Billboard's Year-End charts in Dance Club Songs, Hot Dance Electronic Songs, Hot 100 Songs, and I pull a several of my personal favorites from the year that deserve to be included. Billboard allots points to songs based on the number of weeks they remain on their charts. Typically, it's one point a week, bonus points for entering the Top 10, and then they're assigned higher point values for each position they hold in the Top 10. It's entirely possible that a song that never even hits the top of any of their charts still ranks high for the year due to longevity on the charts. Much like the Academy Awards, there's a cut off date at the end of November of each year. Because Party Favorz understands people's memories align with when a song is getting heavy rotation in clubs or dance radio, we also pull from the charts leading up to the last week before Christmas. For instance, Tiesto & Mabel's "God Is a Dancer" just hit the top spot today and is included. As a result, it's likely you'll notice the same songs hit our year-end retrospectives two years in a row. Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" was so massively popular that it generated ongoing club and radio play through the first half of 2019 despite peaking in 2018. Other tracks that are included are massive songs on the Hot 100 that may or may not even chart on the Dance Club chart but are so popular — they generate a plethora of authorized and bootleg remixes. It would be blasphemous to leave these tracks out because of the demand for them on dance floors and the overall impact they have on popular culture. If we're going to paint a complete picture, their inclusion is mandatory. DANCE CLUB ARTISTS OF THE YEAR Speaking of Ariana Grande, she was the top Dance Club artist of the year. In fact, the top 10 Dance Club artists are featured as the cover art for this first volume. they feature, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Madonna, Kendra Erika, Ava Max, Mark Ronson, Bleona, Fisher, and P!nk. I disagree with two of them, but points gave them that position so who am I to argue. I'm expecting a total of three volumes to round this year-end series out with another hopefully dropping on Saturday. For better or worse, these are the biggest Dance Club songs of 2019. ENJOY! Album: Year in Dance 2019 Volume 1 Genre: EDM, House, Dance, Club Year: 2019 Total Time: 02:05:24 1. Ariana Grande - 7 Rings (Division 4 & Matt Consola Remix) 2. It's time for the annual Catch-Up! Just in time for the summer season, this series allows you to catch up with the biggest dance club hits of the year. As an added bonus, I've thrown in some newer tracks that are just now gaining momentum and will likely soon be everywhere. Ariana Grande is the clearcut winner for the most hits with "Thank U, Next" carrying over from last year along with "7 Rings," and "Break Up with Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored." One of the most striking trends I'm seeing is the classic-pop remakes. While sampling past hits have been a staple of artists going back to the 90's, remaking full tracks has not. In this set we have a total of 5 remakes that include: "Self Control" by Kendra Erika (originally a Top 3 hit for Laura Branigan in 1984), Hilary Roberts "Back To Life" (originally a #1 hit for Soul II Soul featuring Caron Wheeler in 1989), "Fired Up" by Jade Starling (originally a #1 dance club hit for Funky Green Dogs in 1996), "The Rhythm of the Night" by Sean Finn & Corona (originally a #11 pop hit and #1 dance club hit for Corona in 1993 who re-sung the vocals for this release), "I've Been Thinking About You" by Klaas and Londonbeat (originally a #1 pop and dance club hit for Londonbeat in 1989 who re-sung the vocals for this release), "Bittersweet Symphony" by Gamper & Dadoni featuring Emily Roberts (originally a #1 pop and alternative hit in 1997), and "Jump" by Van Halen and Armin Van Buuren (originally a #1 pop and rock hit in 1984). The one that did not make the cut is "You Gotta Be" by Bombs Away featuring Reigan, which was originally a #5 hit for Des'ree in 1995 but didn't quite capture the essence of the original. This is quite a grab bag of influences artists are delving into as they represent a wide variety of genres. At the end of the day, a great song is still a great song. I realize this set has been a long time coming but it's finally here and there is enough to fuel your parties through July before I start dropping some new dance club on you. I'm currently wrapping up the annual installment of Beach House and will start working on the next Underground House set shortly. As you can see, there's plenty in the works. I figured I'd get a jump on things and drop an unexpected surprise for you folks next week in its stead. Party Favorz decided to bring the party indoors and is releasing the annual Holiday Edition a week early! The Holiday Edition 2018 is chock-full of the biggest Circuit Tribal House music blowing up at the moment. In addition to a brand-spanking new track from the one and only Barbra Streisand, inspired by the current administration and the occupation by individual 1 in OUR HOUSE, there are two more tracks from the soundtrack and its companion "The Greatest Showman," which is turning out to be the gift that keeps on giving. To boot, we've got the #1 Billboard Dance Club track and the #1Top 100 song of the moment, "Breathin'" and "Thank You, Next" by Ariana Grande, a slew of new Lady Gaga tracks off of the " A Star Is Born" soundtrack mixed by Barry Harris, a tribute mix to Queen "Under Pressure" who are defying all odds with $487.5 million in ticket sales for their biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody," which I'm dying to see, as well as several throwbacks. In that category, Barry Harris "refreshed" the Weather Girls classic "It's Raining Men" that keeps the original intact but adds a lot of oomph, making it perfect for big room events. Susu Bobien has faithfully recreated the Loleatta Holloway classic "Love Sensation," while Jeanie Tracy takes a turn on the Sylvester classic "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)," both of which are currently climbing the dance charts. While I can't discuss every track I do want to make a couple of noteworthy mentions: Dirty Disco shreds Anggun's latest "The Good Is Back" turning it into a massive floor-filler that should be picked up for every DJ's arsenal. You'll also notice that I included Kendra Erika's remake of the Laura Branigan classic "Self Control" after slamming it in my last post. The Ralphi Rosario and Erick Ibiza club mix allows Erika's vocals to shine and the production value is more palatable than the Dirty Werk version I was using. My apologies to Kendra. I want to give a BIG shoutout to Ludovic D. for his generous donation. If you haven't donated yet, please consider making a contribution towards my efforts. There is no amount too big or small that will be accepted. I hope everyone's having nicer weather than we are in the south and gearing up for the holidays. I'll be back next week. with that surprise, I mentioned earlier. Until then...ENJOY! Album: Holiday Edition 2018 Genre: Circuit, Tribal, House Year: 2018 Total Time: 02:52:19 1.
