Chris Powers hiked from the Northern Terminus to the Natural Bridge area as part of attempting a longer thru hike of the Sheltowee Trace Trail. We talk about what led to him deciding to leave the trail and lessons he learned along the way. We get into planning and logistics (gear, camping, food and water), the hard reality of road walking and its impact on his hike, and the joy found in photography along the trail. We also discuss some of the ways being a climber can help with both planning and executing a hike. In this episode I talked to Ryan Hawk about how hiring is a lot like hunting. You're not passively reviewing resumes, you are actively searching for top talent and trying to recruit them to your team. The hard truth is that most people are incompetent, and if you tolerate C-Players, eventually your A-players will leave. I also shared a story from a mentor of mine, Chris Powers, that changed how I make hiring and firing decisions. Today's episode is with Co-Founder, Jason Baxter, to introduce our latest venture, FOSTR AI—a company built to solve one of the most pressing challenges facing businesses today: how to implement AI in your business in a meaningful, aligned, and scalable way. We unpack the fragmented state of AI adoption across small to mid-sized businesses and explain why most organizations, despite interest, are either stuck in experimentation or using disconnected tools that don't move the business forward. FOSTR AI is the answer to that problem—an execution intelligence layer that creates a company's “digital twin,” aligning AI usage with team structure, goals, and strategy from day one. We discuss how FOSTR helps companies: - Onboard and operationalize AI in a matter of minutes - Centralize AI usage across teams while maintaining control, security, and context - Reduce risk from siloed tools and misaligned AI use Links: FOSTR AI - https://fostrai.com/ Topics: (00:00:00) - Intro (00:00:52) - Introducing FOSTR (00:02:40) - The Challenges Businesses Face with AI Today (00:05:14) - How Companies and Employees Are Misusing AI (00:10:29) - Additional Challenges (00:12:33) - How FOSTR Is Creating Alignment Between Companies and AI Solutions (00:25:57) - Where FOSTR Is in Its Life Cycle (00:30:39) - How to Get in Touch With, Work At, or Invest in FOSTR Chris on Social Media: The Fort Podcast on Twitter/X: https://x.com/theFORTpodcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thefortpodcast LinkedIn: https://bit.ly/45gIkFd Watch The Fort on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3oynxNX Visit our website: https://bit.ly/43SOvys Leave a review on Apple: https://bit.ly/45crFD0 Leave a review on Spotify: https://bit.ly/3Krl9jO The FORT is produced by Johnny Podcasts

The Fort is an entrepreneurship podcast hosted by Chris Powers. Each episode's mission is to help you to level up your entrepreneurial game by hearing directly from the men and women in the arena. Chris talks about how "Great takes time" and uses his recent podcast episode featuring Rusty Reid of Higginbotham Insurance and Financial Services as an example. Throughout the interview, though, Chris talks about the importance of mentorship and how others have helped guide and shape his personal, professional and spiritual journey, and led to his own growth and development and that of his business. He shares valuable lessons and advice from his father and how his father continues to impact his life everyday, even after his loss; and how his mother, wife, and family inspire and guide him with his faith. Dan & Chris Powers took a leap of faith when they moved across the country to Los Angeles 10 years ago to pursue their dream in the entertainment business. Since then, it's paid off. They run the famous Empty Netters Podcast (an Almost Friday Media/Friday Beers affiliate) and have made a name for themselves as screenwriters. It didn't come without a few "kicks to the teeth" -- being rejected for jobs on the front line at Chipotle (after completing a Masters in Electrical Engineering at Duke), sleeping on floors, almost getting scammed, and more. These are untold stories that show for every success, there's a bucket of adversity that we rarely get to see. The concept for "Quick Nine" is to give golf gamblers a behind-the-scenes look into their favorite personalities backgrounds and strategies. On this week's episode of Quick Nine, I talk with Chris Powers (@CPowers14) about a variety of topics including his start in golf gambling and his job at Golf Digest. Topics: You went to the University of Rhode Island to study Journalism. Was your goal always to get into golf-related media or, were you hoping to get your start in any sport? You got hired by Golf Digest in 2017, can you tell me a little about how that came to be? At Golf Digest you started as an assistant editor and worked your way up to become a full-time staff writer in 2021. Can walk us through that process? Now as a full-time staff writer, you cover a variety of topics across the golf landscape. However, the weekly article I'm most interested in is the Gambling Preview. You and several other prominent figures in the golf gambling space collaborate to offer your best bets. When did these articles start and how did this idea for these articles come to be? You're one of the hosts on The Loop Podcast, along with Alex Meyers and Steve Hennessey. The podcast started in 2020 and was originally a golf gambling-only podcast. Since then, it's expanded to cover a wide range of topics. How did that podcast start and what made you transition away from only gambling coverage? Favorite Tournament/ Course? Major Outside a Major Course You've personally played How do you approach a tournament? First thing you look at (Oddsboard or research?) Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage is evolving rapidly from a niche market to a mainstream investment theme. To explore the technology, financing and science behind this key piece of the energy transition puzzle, industry leaders and analysts met in Houston for Wood Mackenzie's CCUS Conference. The Interchange: Recharged was there, capturing the best conversations and debate from a packed day of discussion. Across two full episodes, David Banmiller brings you the thoughts and insights from industry experts, as they examine the potential for CCUS to solve some of our biggest challenges in decarbonizing. Will it be the key to decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors? How much more development does the technology need? And where does the carbon actually go once it's captured or sequestered? David kicks things off with the opening remarks from Wood Mac's head of CCUS research: Mhairidh Evans. She explores the current state of the market and highlights some of the existing CCUS infrastructure and projects around the world that are leading the way.George Bilicic, Vice Chairman of Investment Banking, Global Head of Power, Energy & Infrastructure at Lazard is joined by Ed Crooks, Vice-Chair Americas at Wood Mackenzie, as they look at the regulatory environment for CCUS activities, and the complex route of finalizing financial decisions (FID) for projects.Tim Duncan from Talos Energy, and Chris Powers from Chevron New Energies are next to join David in the podcast studio, fresh from a panel discussion on stage in which they looked at the opportunities for corporates in the CCUS space. What are the challenges for operators? What are the key needs to scale a CCUS business? There's an interesting link between green hydrogen and CCUS; this partnership is explored in depth by David's next guest Mercy Renteria, National Business Development Manager of Hydrogen and CCS at Endress+Hauser. Mercy's background in oil and gas, and transition to green technology operation, is indicative of the wider shift across the industry. She stresses the need for collaboration in reaching net zero: as David says often on the show, the energy transition will need a multitude of technologies, working in tandem to achieve net zero.Don't forget to subscribe to the show, and check out part two of our special live broadcast from the conference in Houston, with insight from Exxon Mobil, Wood Mackenzie, Emerson and Compact Membrane Systems.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
