The tables soon radically turned when our 23-year-old protagonist pulled out his legally concealed weapon. A sudden and unexpected exchange of gunfire ensued as the would-be victim confronted his assailant. The previously confident robber was taken aback by the young man's armed resistance. It was an unpredicted turn of events that prompted dramatic reactions, giving us all food for thought on the importance of personal preparedness. As the tension at North Winthrop Avenue reached a crescendo, the suspected felon found himself in an unexpected scenario. He rapidly retreated towards his vehicle, a stark contrast to his previous brazen display. The sight of an armed citizen, clearly adept in firearm usage and undaunted by the volatile situation, forced the attacker to reassess his errant life choices in an instant. And just as abruptly as the conflict began, it ended. The armed robber, who moments ago projected an air of dangerous authority, scrambled back into his vehicle, and it hastily sped off into the cold, pre-dawn darkness. It was a dramatic end to a violent endeavour, where the intended victim had shifted the balance of power, thanks to his concealed carry permit and the ability to use it effectively. The story of the Chicago passerby who defended himself is, however, not all that it was. Our brave 23-year-old was unscathed, but the scene held a grim marker. Following the altercation, the Chicago guardians of peace discovered traces of blood, a clear indication that the alleged robber might not have escaped unscathed. It was an unsettling yet undeniable confirmation that the defender's retaliatory gunfire might have found its mark. This early-morning incident amidst the urban sprawl is not an isolated case. Other recent robberies have been reported in the vicinity, all bearing striking similarities to the attempted robbery of this armed citizen. One not expected to behave this way—namely, a man—was able to create a more subversively powerful example of love in action.Jesus frees women too, in several ways.He shows that gender doesn't determine worth or rank.Treated women with highest respect – unlike the world.Completely pure in how he viewed women: they were not objects, but subjects.Traditional way of blessing women depended on childbirth – Luke 11:27 – Jesus contradicts this.Discipleship:Luke 10 – called women to spend some time away from daily chores to sit at his feet as disciples. See also Luke 8.John 4 – the Samaritan woman is more the evangelist than the 12 apostles!CONCLUSIONOf course there's more to be said:We haven't even discussed the doctrine of the Trinity – how Jesus Christ was eternally the Son of God. (God couldn't send a "daughter" if he didn't have one.)or the scandal that would have surrounded an itinerant woman preacher gathering disciples…And we've only just begun to work through the implications for the current feminist controversy.I acknowledge the influence of Stanley Grentz's Theology for the Community of God, pp.289-292. For me his work was seminal, and helped me begin to think through this issue.In short, Jesus, in order to accomplish his mission, had to be a man.Not because men are better than women,but because otherwise life-bringing his message would have been:discounteddiluted or obscuredAnd the most effective modeling could only take place—in a patriarchal society—by a man.Hopefully this perspective will prove useful to you in your evangelism, in answering questions from outsiders but also from insiders.

As incredible as it may sound, it is certainly true that this so-called modern civilization is frightfully ugly. It does not even fulfill the transcendental characteristics of aesthetics and is devoid of inner beauty. We greatly boast of those conventional, horrifying structures that resemble mouse holes. The world has become terribly monotonous; everywhere there exist unchanging streets and appalling housing. All this has become tiresome throughout the world, in the north, the south, the east and the west. The same uniformity exists everywhere, horribly nauseating and sterile. “Modernization,” exclaim the multitudes. We resemble vain peacocks with our fine clothes and shiny shoes while here, there and everywhere are unhappy, undernourished, and wretched millions. Simplicity and natural beauty, spontaneous and genuine with no need for vain accessories and cosmetics, has disappeared in the female sex. Nowadays we are modern; such is life. People have grown dreadfully cruel. There is a chill on kindness. Nobody has compassion for anyone anymore. The display windows of luxury stores glisten with extravagant merchandise, which the less fortunate definitely cannot afford. In our society those who are outcast can only gaze upon silks and jewels, costly bottles of perfume and umbrellas for downpours. They can look but they cannot touch, a torment similar to that of Tantalus. The modern human being has become grossly rude. The perfume of friendship and the fragrance of sincerity have, for the most part, disappeared. The teeming masses complain of being overtaxed; everyone has problems; someone owes us or we owe them; we are sued and have nothing with which to pay; worries ravage our brains; nobody lives in peace.… Bureaucrats sustain themselves psychologically upon their smugly curved paunches and fat cigars, while cunningly playing political mind games with absolutely no concern for people’s suffering. Nowadays, no one is happy, least of all those of the middle class who find themselves with their backs to the wall facing the sword. Rich and poor, believers and nonbelievers, merchants and beggars, shoemakers and tinsmiths only live because they must. They drown their torments with wine and even become drug addicts to escape themselves. People have become malicious, suspicious, distrustful, astute and perverse; no one believes in anyone anymore. Every day they invent new conditions, certificates, all kinds of restrictions, documents, credentials, etc., none of which serves a real purpose anymore. The astute mock all this nonsense: they do not pay; they evade the law even though they risk being hauled off to jail. No job provides happiness. The sense of true love has been lost, and people are married today, divorced tomorrow. Lamentably, family unity has been lost. There is no longer an innate sense of modesty. Lesbianism and homosexuality have become as common as drinking a glass of water. The purpose of this book is certainly to find out more about all this, to try to understand the causes of such moral breakdown, to investigate, to seek. I am speaking in an everyday, practical language in hopes of finding out what is hidden behind this horrible masquerade of existence. I am thinking aloud, and let the swindlers of the intellect say whatever they please. Theories have already become humdrum. They are even sold and resold in the marketplace… then what? Theories serve only to worry us and embitter our lives. Goethe rightly said: “Every theory is grey and only the tree of the golden fruits of life is green.” The wretched people are already weary of many theories. This comes after militants killed 40 believers in the week leading up to Christmas. One local resident said, “Mass graves litter the community and the countryside. Our people can no longer go to their farms for fear of being gunned down or macheted. Lamentably, the Fulani terrorist attacks have continued unabated as they are heard chanting, ‘Allah Akbar [Allah, the moon god, is greater]' during the killing and destructive expeditions.” Please pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Nigeria. GOP conservatives reject Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker The House adjourned without a speaker on Tuesday for the first time in a century after Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy of California failed in a third straight vote for the gavel, reports Politico.com. It comes after 19 Republican conservatives derailed McCarthy's first and second vote to become Speaker, throwing the party further into chaos on their first day in the majority. Twenty House Republicans threw their support behind GOP Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, who has repeatedly said he does not want the gavel, which sunk McCarthy's bid to take the position on the opening day of Congress. In fact, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida slammed Kevin McCarthy as he nominated Jim Jordan. Listen. GAETZ: “Maybe the right person for the job of Speaker of the House isn't someone – [McCarthy] -- who wants it so bad. Maybe the right person for the job of Speaker of the House isn't someone who has sold shares of themselves for more than a decade to get it. (surprised reaction) Maybe Jim Jordan is the right person for Speaker of the House because he is not beholden to the lobbyists and special interests who have corrupted this place and corrupted this nation under the leadership of both Republicans and Democrats. “Maybe Jim Jordan would be the right person for Speaker of the House because he wouldn't fight us when we try to get a term limits bill on the floor. Maybe Jim Jordan would be the right person because he wouldn't fight us when we try to put a balanced budget on the floor and vote for it. And maybe Jim Jordan is the right person because he would endorse the plan that was built by the Texas delegation to finally secure our border.” McCarthy, who can only afford to lose four votes out of the 222 Republican members, is facing an uphill battle to take over the gavel from Nancy Pelosi. Before the vote, Gaetz said, "Those of us who will not be voting for Kevin McCarthy today take no joy in this discomfort that this moment has brought. But if you want to drain the swamp, you cannot put the biggest alligator in charge of the exercise. I'm a Florida man and I know of what I speak.” New York judge allows people to pack heat at church Last Thursday, a U.S. federal judge temporarily blocked a New York State law that prohibits people from carrying firearms in houses of worship.  Pastor Michael Spencer of His Tabernacle Family Church is challenging the law and is represented by First Liberty Institute.  Ryan Gardner with First Liberty said, “Singling out houses of worship for total disarmament demonstrates hostility toward religion, leaves them defenseless to rebuff violent attacks, sticks the state's nose into how religious services are conducted, and defies at least two recent Supreme Court rulings against New York.” Sean Feucht vs. Antifa at defaced San Diego church Antifa members defaced City View Church's building in San Diego, California last week. The church was planning on holding a New Year's Eve worship service led by Christian singer Sean Feucht. Police are investigating the attack as a hate crime. The far-left activists spray painted profanities and threats on the church building. According to a video of one tweet, Feucht told ChurchLeaders.com, “The church isn't a building. We're the bride of Christ and in 2023 we're rising up like never before.” FEUCHT: “Rejoice and be glad. So, that's what we're going to do in San Diego tonight. We've been persecuted. All kinds of crazy stuff has been said. This church has been vandalized. But you know what? Tonight, you're going to see a resilient church. This is a prophetic night for what God is doing in 2023. You're going to see a church rising up in boldness, rising up in courage.” Matthew 5:10-12 says, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in Heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Court upholds school's right to restrict bathrooms to biological sex Last Friday, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a Florida school district's anti-transgender policy. The St. Johns County School Board has a bathroom policy that distinguishes students based on biological sex. A female student pretending to be a boy sued the school over the policy.  The ruling noted, “The school board's bathroom policy is clearly related to — indeed, is almost a mirror of — its objective of protecting the privacy interests of students to use the bathroom away from the opposite sex and to shield their bodies from the opposite sex in the bathroom.” Wall Street's worst year since 2008 And finally, Wall Street ended its worst year since 2008 last Friday. All three major stock indices reported painful losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down nearly 8% for 2022. The S&P 500 dropped nearly 20%, and the  tech-heavy Nasdaq fell over 30%. Media and tech companies recorded some of the biggest losses. The Walt Disney Company, Netflix, Comcast and other media groups lost over half a trillion dollars in market value last year. Disney stock, in particular, dropped 45% as the company continues to support sexually perverted lifestyles. MUSIC SCENE 1    THE CLUB ROOM SOUND     RADIO PLAYS JAZZ IN ANOTHER ROOM ALGY    Bartholomew, old man - believe it or not, I've been HAD. BART    [mock incredulous] Algernon Winthrop the third?  "Had"?  Hold on, shh!  [beat]  No, no... I don't think I hear the trumpet hailing the end of all things, so how could You possibly-- ALGY    Hush!  Do you want to hear the story or not? BART    [teasing] I dunno - do I? ALGY    You're the only one I can tell, so I expect you can guess what this is in regards to. BART    [knowing smirk] "Art"? ALGY    Yes.  I was approached last Wednesday week by [wistful] a vision of loveliness-- BART    Male or Female? ALGY    Female, of course!  You know which direction my loveliness runs.  A trim auburn lass with a back like she'd been born on a horse. BART    There is something to be said for centaurs. ALGY    She said she had been referred to me as a leading authority on certain kinds of paintings. BART    [chuckles expectantly] A-ha! ALGY    Well, I am!  And I have the advantage of being outside the normal rope and cap mobs.  BART    Someone with no affiliation to bat for. ALGY    Correct.  [sigh]  She invited me to her country estate, and how could I refuse?  There are untold treasures hidden in mouldering attics throughout the land! BART    Better you than me.  I loathe the country. ALGY    You loathe anything beyond a ten minute walk from this club. BART    Very true.  [arch]  Oh, you've reminded me, we're in a club.  That means there is hot and cold running alcohol to hand.  Shall we? ALGY    I'll stick to a weak Gin and Tonic, if you don't mind.  I may have ...work... to do later. BART    Oh-ho!! SOUND    GENTLE BELL RINGS, GENTLE DOOR OPENS BUTLER    Sir? BART    Drinks, please.  G and T, heavy on the T, and some of that port I'm so fond of. BUTLER    Excellent selections, sir. SOUND    DOOR CLOSES ALGY    [chuckling] He'd say that regardless of what you asked for. BART    True, but he would say it with a subtle sneer in his voice.  Frankly, I can't remember the vintage of the port in question... but apparently he does. ALGY    Indispensible.  BART    I know you won't recount anything juicy until he returns, so tell me more about this girl? ALGY    Harriet Carter-Nelson.  Last heir of some family or other.  Was left the only house not entailed to a distant chinless wonder.  Took possession, found it rather a crumbling heap, but discovered there were some potentially salable items hidden about the place. BART    Items in the "canvas" line, I assume? ALGY    Precisely. SOUND    TAP AT THE DOOR BART    Come in. SOUND    BUTLER ENTERS, PUTS DOWN DRINKS, LEAVES ALGY    [sips]  Perfect.  Gem of a man. BART    Can't remember his name any more than the vintage, but I do try and appreciate him whenever I have the chance. ALGY    Appreciate him a bit for me, too, would you? BART    Certainly.  [drinks] Now, the canvasses. ALGY    After an hour or so of driving - the place was halfway to Inverness - I came upon a stark silhouette set against a striking sunset.  BART    You paint such pictures with your words. ALGY    I suppose an eye is an eye, for all that.  Checking the coordinates, I discovered I had arrived.  More striking still was the vision of loveliness that greeted me at the door. BART    NOT a butler, then? ALGY    No.  There was some sort of staff about, but she was expecting me, and made certain to be ready upon my arrival. BART    Curiouser and curiouser - a woman who doesn't make one wait an half hour for her entrance?  I like her already. ALGY    [rueful] As do I.  She lacks that sheen of plasticine that so many women don the moment they "come out" and never seem to take off again.  Everything about her seemed so natural.  So genuine.  MUSIC TRANSITION   SCENE 2    OUTSIDE THE HOUSE SOUND    FROGS, NIGHT NOISES HARRIET    I'm so pleased you found it!  Come in, come in!  Oh, no wait - sorry.  You should turn your car around before the light goes.  Some of the ground is boggy and it's quite treacherous in the dark. ALGY    I'll be perfectly fine. HARRIET     [mock sigh] Your funeral.  Come along. SOUND    FOOTSTEPS ON GRAVEL THEN WOOD, DOOR SHUTS ALGY    I didn't realize there was any civilization this far into the hinterlands. HARRIET     Oh, there isn't.  Not really.  But I love it out here.  The country is so beautiful - nine weeks out of the year.  Between mold season and mosquito season.  ALGY    [laughs]  BART    [Voice Over] Enough with the flirting - tell me about the paintings. ALGY    [VO] Give me a moment to wallow in our collective wit, won't you? BART    [VO] One more moment, then.  Proceed. HARRIET     There's a set of rooms that's quite liveable, and a few larger enclosed spaces that might pass for human habitation.  [drops the banter]  I'm hoping - truly - that some of the paintings will be worth enough that I can sell them and [loving] rescue the poor house.  [clipped again] You did say you have contacts and know people who might be looking to buy? ALGY    I shall do the best for you that I can. ALGY    [VO] And I would.  Whatever my other interests are, once I give my word, I always keep it. BART    [VO] Particularly to such a lovely young thing, eh, wot? HARRIET     It's very kind of you. ALGY    Well, I do expect to make some little commission on it, of course. HARRIET     Of course.  Right through here. MUSIC   SCENE 3    THE CLUB ROOM SOUND    ALGY DRINKS ALGY    [disgusted sigh] and it was ... tragic. BART    Strong word. ALGY    Strong feeling.  The room she took me into was hung with a dozen limp landscapes. BART    Limp? ALGY    Oh, you know the type "Aunt so-and so painted this in 1860 on the French Riveria". Or "Grandmama was always well regarded for her eye for beauty". BART    Good night.  And after such a long drive! ALGY    And watching that look of hope slide off her dainty face.  The light going out in her hazel eyes. MUSIC   SCENE 4    INSIDE THE HOUSE SOUND    SLIGHT CREAKS WHEN THEY WALK HARRIET     That bad? ALGY    I may be able to get you an odd bob or so - perhaps from an American.  Not more. HARRIET     Oh.  ALGY    It happens to the best of us. ALGY    [VO] She turned away, and the line of her shoulders spoke volumes. BART    [VO] Reading her shoulders?  On a first date? [chuckles] ALGY    I-I-- Perhaps I should... go? HARRIET     No.  [coming to a decision, almost teary]  I... Can I trust you? ALGY    Goodness, would anyone say no to that? HARRIET     [burst of laughter]  Goodness be blowed!  I'm going to take a chance.  People have said good things about you.  Come along. SOUND    WALKING, CREAKING, UNDER VO ALGY    [VO] She took me deep into the bowels of the house, into some sort of secret room.  I watched closely as she tweaked various odds and sods on a rococo mantlepiece, and a panel slid open. SOUND    CREAK AS PANEL SHIFTS SOUND    HOLLOW MOANING WIND HARRIET     There's a family ghost, but it's benign. ALGY    Spirits have never bothered me. ALGY    [VO] And in this room - by gad! BART    [VO] Yes? ALGY    [VO] Arrayed around the walls were a good dozen of what looked like genuine Old masters.  Undiscovered, possibly unknown. BART    [VO] Real?  ALGY    Real? HARRIET    Yes, but.  Problematic. ALGY    How so? HARRIET    Apparently, according to unverifiable family lore, one of our ancestors was quite the notorious bandit. ALGY    Bandit? HARRIET    Highwayman, I believe they called the titled ones.  He raided everything within a week's ride, they say, and stashed most of the boodle here.  Everything that could be sold easily, went long ago.  Gold, jewels, things like that. ALGY    Well, if they were stolen so long ago, I doubt there would be any debate as to the ownership. HARRIET    [very doubtful] Oh... I'm sure. It's just... ALGY    Yes? HARRIET    [pitiable]  There's no money.  Not a sou.  I can't possibly defend even the slightest case.  A solitary whisper of doubt, and I'll lose everything. ALGY    I see. HARRIET    And without concrete provenance, there's no legitimate way I can sell even one of these.  Tragic, isn't it? ALGY    There are plenty of people who would buy, provenance or no.  You might not get full measure, but that all depends on your patience and negotiating talent. HARRIET    [exasperated] Buyers there may be, but I wouldn't know where to find them!  ALGY    I would. HARRIET    [still fuming, not hearing him immediately] And even if I did, I wouldn't know the first thing to say-- [breaks off, realizing] What? ALGY    I know all the right people.  If you can trust me with any one of those, I'll get you top dollar. HARRIET    But why would you help me?  And how can I possibly trust you? ALGY    Oh, I'll take my standard commission, of course.  And I'll play you fair on the first one, if for no other reason than in hope that you'll let me take on the rest. HARRET    [worried musing] It's a big step.  The mere thought of letting them out of my sight terrifies me.  It's not as if I have insurance or anything.  If the worst should happen - I'd be lost. ALGY    If I could, I would buy one outright from you - at a discount, you understand - and hazard a chance I could make a profit.  But these are far out of my range, unless I were to insult you by offering a pittance. HARRIET    A pittance would at least keep body and soul together until you were able to sell it.  Could you - manage something in a down payment?  Even just call it an assurance - we could write up a contract and everything! ALGY    Oh, I don't think we need go that far.  But I could advance you something, if you don't mind waiting a day or two.  HARRIET    [musing] Let's see - a day or two for you to get back, then I have to arrange a lift into the city, to get to the bank, and back.... ALGY    [amused] Are you hinting that you would prefer cash? HARRIET    Am I that transparent?  [sweetly]  I used to be quite a good liar, I'm told, but desperation does wear one's nerve a bit thin.  And the local shops no longer honor this house with credit. ALGY    I could manage, say, a thousand pounds assurance.  If you'll let me take that small one. HARRIET    A thousand?  You think this is worth so much? ALGY    Ten times that, at least.  HARRIET    My hero!  I'll have it crated and ready for transport when you return, will that be all right? ALGY    Certainly. MUSIC   SCENE 5    THE CLUB ROOM BART    You didn't. ALGY    I did. BART    And which one of the limp landscapes did you purchase for a thousand pounds? ALGY    [sigh] A rather dreadful view of some lighthouse that's slightly off plumb. BART    [laughs heartily]  And what do you plan to do about it? ALGY    What do you think? BART    Can you find your way back in again? ALGY    I believe so.  I truly would have played fair with her, but... BART    What can she expect?  Swindling a notorious art thief like "The Badger"? MUSIC - TIME PASSES   SCENE 6    THE CLUB ROOM - NEXT DAY SOUND    DOOR OPENS ALGY    [entering melodramatically]  Oh, Bart!  Bart, my old chum!  All is lost! SOUND    DOOR SHUTS BART    Sit, dear boy.  Sit and tell!  Is this your enchanting titian-haired siren? ALGY    Enchanting!  Enchantress is more like it! BART    Why?  Don't tell me you couldn't get back into her secret painting room? ALGY    [chortles sarcastically] Oh-ho-ho.  It's far worse than that. BART    Ah.  Good thing I laid on some rather strong liquor when I got your cable.  Drink up. ALGY    [drinks]  There's really not much to tell. BART    I hope you have more than that!  This is expensive stuff! ALGY    I got into the house.  Even managed to find the right combination of whorls on the carving - she'd pushed a number of extra thingumees, did I mention that? BART    So she knew you were watching? ALGY    [sighing admission] Yes.  She's frightfully brilliant. BART    Let me get this straight - this charming chit of a girl has fooled you twice, and yet you still admire her? ALGY    I admire her because she has fooled me twice. BART    And her loveliness has nothing to do with it? ALGY    Well... [smiling] it certainly doesn't hurt. BART    [beat] So... you got into the room. ALGY    Yes.  Yes.  I got in.  BART    [exasperated] And? ALGY    Every one of the frames that I had so closely examined not two weeks before was filled... with landscapes! BART    THE landscapes? ALGY    For all I know she has an infinite supply of the blasted things!  [sudden realization] By Jove! BART    What? ALGY    I can't believe it never occurred to me before - what if I'm not the first? BART    Whatever do you mean? ALGY    What if this little minx has pulled this same trick on other so-called art dealers? BART    [chuckles]  Are you outraged at her daring, or because she didn't pick you first? ALGY    There she was, dressed in plain homespun, crying infinite poverty, when she may have just held up half the crooked daub handlers in Piccadilly! BART    I can see why you admire her. ALGY    The beast! BART    I can't wait to meet her. ALGY    Wretch! BART    You'll have to bring her around sometime. ALGY    What? BART    Well, you are going to see her again, aren't you? ALGY    You old dog.  You know everything.  [beat]  She should be here any minute. BART    Then I expect it's a good thing I've dropped a word here and there about a niece who might be coming into town any day now, isn't it? ALGY    I don't know why I even try-- SOUND    KNOCK AT DOOR BART    Yes? SOUND    DOOR OPENS, BUTLER ENTERS BUTLER    Sir, there is a young lady here to see mister Algernon Winthrop.  I told her merely that I would inquire...? BART    Proper, as always.  Don't give her any definite answer, there's a good chap, but bring her on up.  BUTLER    [slightly miffed]  Very good, sir. SOUND    DOOR CLOSES BART    That.  That is definitely the sound he would make if I placed an order for anything substandard. ALGY    I say, Bart, hide me, would you? BART    What and leave your young lady entirely in my clutches? ALGY    I know you'll get something out of her, and all the more if she doesn't realize I'm here.  BART    [indulgent] That door there.  It has a lovely large keyhole, and a connection to the corridor.  I'll ferret out whatever she's hiding.  You'll get your hands on those paintings yet. ALGY    Oh, I already have plans for that.  BART    Oh?  What--? SOUND    KNOCK ON DOOR. SOUND    SCRAMBLE AS ALGY HIDES SOUND    HIS DOOR QUIETLY CREAKS SHUT BART    [calling] Come in. SOUND    HER DOOR OPENS SOUND    BART POURS DRINK BUTLER    [introductions]  Miss Harriet Carter-Nelson.  Mister Bartholomew Heatheredge. SOUND    FOOTSTEPS, DOOR SHUTS [NOTE:  from this point until she "overplays her hand", BART and ALGY are pulling a con on Harriet to get her to trade back the painting] BART    [suddenly stern]  Please have a seat, Miss Carter-Nelson.  I pray you won't take offense at my not rising, but my gout has been simply murder this past week. HARRIET    [uncertain]  But... I was invited here by Mister Winthrop? BART    I have sent him on some trifling errand, in hopes that we might finish our business without his interference.  HARRIET    Business? BART    Poor Algy has a lamentably sentimental nature when it comes to these things. HARRIET    Pray enlighten me of "these things" that you are speaking of? BART    I assume you will not be adverse to endorsing this. SOUND    PAPER PRODUCED WITH A FLOURISH HARRIET    What is it?  [almost a laugh] A bill of sale?  For-- BART    The painting currently in Mr. Winthrop's possession. HARRIET    But it's-- BART    Practically worthless?  Nonetheless, Mr. Winthrop requests that you make it over to him in its entirety, in return for monies which have already changed hands - to wit, one thousand pounds. HARRIET    Why should he want to claim ownership of the silly thing? BART    [fraught with ominous meaning] Why indeed.  [brisk] All you need concern yourself with is your signature on that document, placing the item into legal custody of my client. HARRIET    Client? BART    Did he fail to mention that I am his family solicitor? HARRIET    [worried]  Solicitor.  Yes, I believe he overlooked that. BART    Come, come.  He won't be gone all day. HARRIET    No.  I would like to hear the reason for this. BART    [furious] Miss Carter-Nelson!  I am not here to give explanations, merely to get one of two outcomes from you - and while my preference would be for you to regain your painting, and my client his money, that is undoubtedly out of the question.  Should the need arise, I am also prepared to begin legal proceedings. HARRIET    [gasp] SOUND    KNOCK ALGY    [outside] I say, Bart, have you got someone in there? BART    Drat. HARRIET    [musing] Lamentably sentimental, you say? BART    Mister Winthrop, perhaps you would-- HARRIET    [loud, over him, cheery] Come in! SOUND    DOOR OPENS, ALGY ENTERS ALGY    Good gracious!  Are you keeping secrets from me, old man? BART    I am merely trying to legitimize the transaction that passed between you two-- HARRIET    [flirty] He's trying to get me to sign over all ownership of that painting. ALGY    Oh!  Good job.  Go on. HARRIET    You... you actually WANT it? ALGY    [hinting] It's not a matter of what I want-- BART    [cutting him off]  AHEM.  It's a matter of making the entire situation clear and above board.  The painting has more than been compensated for.  HARRIET    [suspicious] What do you plan to do with it? BART    [rising irritation] That is none of your concern!  The only thing that needs to happen here and now is for you to transfer title or return my client's deposit. HARRIET    This is hardly fair.  I should need to consult a solicitor as well - see to it that this bill of sale is proper and aboveboard! BART    You're right, of course.  If you will give me the name of your solicitor, I can contact him directly.  [muttered]  Probably best to have him on hand, regardless, just in case Mr. Winthrop decides to take my advice as to... legal action. HARRIET    Mr. Winthrop, I just want to-- ALGY    You can call me Algernon, if you like, Miss Carter-Nelson. HARRIET    [hesitant, confused]  Algernon.  Very well, but I-- ALGY    And perhaps I might be allowed to call you Harriet? HARRIET    [a bit wry]  Will it help convince you this does not require legal action if we are on a first name basis? ALGY    [laughs]  Perhaps. HARRIET    [slightly wheedling] Will it help convince you to let me in on the big secret about the... uh... painting in question?  ALGY    Oh, that.  It's really quite simple-- BART    Ahem. ALGY    [fatuous] Hush, Barty. I know how to handle women. BART    AHEM! ALGY    Shall I ring and have someone bring you a lozenge?  No?  Very well.  [confidential, pleased]  Now Harriet.  I can take a joke as well as the next fellow.  Don't you agree? HARRIET    You've been a pip. ALGY    And I'm sure you feel that perhaps I've only got what I deserve, as I may very well have been on the verge of stealing your lovely old master, or at the very least short-changing such a poor but lovely young heiress. HARRIET    You would be surprised how many might consider such dastardly deeds, given our relative positions. ALGY    [annoyed] How many?  [smooth again]  Well, I can assure you that I would have played fair with you - and got you the best possible deal--   BART    That is all moot.  Why don't you just null the entire transaction and give the painting back.  The colonel-- [catching himself in a mistake] I mean, the person in question - ahem - has stated a clear unwillingness to own any piece of dubious origin. ALGY    A-HEM. HARRIET    [musing] A Colonel? ALGY    I suppose you must have realized by now that I have a potential buyer for the painting, and that I will be making back - mm - more than my thousand.  HARRIET    For that drab thing? ALGY    Some pieces sell on merit, others on sentiment.  The best salesmen are those who find the right customers. HARRIET    How much? BART    As far as you are concerned, it is one thousand pounds, already paid, and an agreement on my client's part not to litigate for false pretenses. HARRIET    No, really, [very warm] Algernon.  How much? ALGY    [melting] I've been offered five thousand, but only with a clear title. HARRIET    [shock] Five? For Great Aunt Ermintrude's "Impressions of a Baltic Lighthouse?" BART    [muttered] A leaning Baltic lighthouse. ALGY    [annoyed]  A Baltic lighthouse a certain colonel recognizes as a place near where he was once stationed in his youth.  A place he used to meet his one true love. HARRIET    [amazed]  Truly? ALGY    So he says, and I was of no mind to disabuse him. HARRIET    Suddenly I have been hit with a terrible guilt complex about having taken such foul advantage of you.  ALGY    Oh really? HARRIET    Such a sentimental streak - I never would have suspected it. ALGY    I hide it well. BART    [snort of laughter turned into cough] HARRIET    I think the best way to handle this is to give you your money back and call it all even. ALGY    Oh, really? HARRIET    Yes.  And, just to show what a good sport I am, I'd - I'd like to make a present of the silly thing to your friend -um- colonel, uh...?  [hinting] ALGY    [breaks down laughing] BART    I fear you've overplayed your hand, young lady. HARRIET    I?  Whatever do you mean? ALGY    You are adorable. HARRIET    [offended] You make it sound as if I was a puppy! ALGY    [still trying to stop laughing] No, no, no.  You are far cleverer than any puppy. HARRIET    I should hope so.  [huff]  I think this is where I should take my leave. ALGY    [suddenly sober]  No.  HARRIET    [wary]  Why? ALGY    There's still the matter of my money. HARRIET    Get it from your colonel! SOUND    A BIT OF A SCUFFLE AS HE STOPS HER FROM LEAVING BART    Here now!  Here now!  I will not have this!  Sit down, both of you! SOUND    THEY BREAK APART WITH A GASP BART    I said sit!  SOUND    CHAIR NOISES SOUND    DRINKS POURED BART    I have the perfect answer to this dilemma, if you will just be quiet and listen. ALGY    He probably does.  He's very clever. HARRIET    I think you both find yourselves too clever by half. ALGY    You fit in quite nicely, then, don't you? BART    How odd.  I distinctly recall-- Did I not say to be quiet?  ALGY    [teasing] We'll be good, papa. HARRIET    Are you planning to mete out justice like old king Solomon? BART    Do you want half a painting?  [beat]  Good.  Now.  The way I see it, your problem, Miss Carter-Nelson, is you wish to preserve your home, and are going about it in this rather nefarious manner.  HARRIET    Well... BART    This is no time for prevarication, miss --Harriet. HARRIET    I am using what little I have to save my home.  Yes.  BART    Very well. HARRIET    And if I happen to take slight advantage over those who otherwise would have taken similar advantage of me-- ALGY    I already told you, Harriet darling, I would never have-- HARRIET    But I couldn't know that, could I? BART    Hush!  [beat]  I swear you bicker like-- well, we'll leave that for the moment.  [chuckles]  And your problem, dear boy, is you would love to get your hands on the lovely old masters this young woman consorts with. HARRIET    [amused] You make it sound quite filthy! ALGY    [quiet] Not the only thing.  [up] Yes.  I would love to be the one to discover such lovely pieces and be able to find them good homes.  Even legitimate ones. BART    Oh, well then - the answer is simple. HARRIET    Oh?  Really? BART    You two should marry. HARRIET    [startled, outraged] What? ALGY    Capital idea.  Was thinking something along those lines myself. HARRIET    oh!  [indignant gasp]  Here! SOUND    PURSE CLICKS OPEN, COUNT OUT MONEY HARRIET    Here is your blasted thousand pounds. SOUND    MONEY TOSSED ON TABLE SOUND    PURSE SNAPPED SHUT HARRIET    [huff] Good day! SOUND    SHE LEAVES, SLAMMING THE DOOR BART    [chuckle] She suits you.  ALGY    [confident] Just a matter of time. Biden and the Democrats keep alienating and lying to the American people and the people keep pretending to believe it. Afterward, isn't the open border an attack on democracy? Why is Biden funding the police? Because the Democrats defunded them and now cities across America are suffering. Incidentally, the Democrats blame the Republicans for this. Afterward, Mikhail Gorbachev passed away. Gorbachev was critical of Putin saying he's created a sham democracy. Lamentably, there is no establishment media for the conservative movement so 'We The People' must fight like we're behind, in order to win seats in Congress this November. President Biden will give a speech to explain how democracy is under attack, not by China, Iran, or Russia, but by conservative Republicans. This is from the same Joe Biden who has supported racist segregationists, tried to destroy the first black Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, and denied the first Black woman nominated to the high court, Janice Rogers Brown. Clearly, Biden knows who is writing the history books so he's doing whatever he wants, and he doesn't care if he turns Americans against each other.  The DOJ filing defended their Mar-A-Lago search and the unauthorized removal of former President Trump's passports stating that it was necessary to stop the threat to national security posed by the three classified documents they found in Trump's desk. 'Hiding' documents on one's desk is the best way to hide them and commit obstruction, right? On Monday's Mark Levin Show, while the establishment claims that Republican candidates are running on the unconstitutional raid at Mar-a-Lago it simply isn't true. Despite much talk about it, candidates must run on their records and against President Biden's. Later, despite the FBI's prior delays they have now reviewed all of Donald Trump's documents in record speed before the court could appoint an independent special master to protect privileged information. This program believes that the Judge should request the names of anyone that reviewed any documents, and their chain of custody, after it was announced on Saturday that the Court was leaning toward appointing a special master. Afterward, the FBI Agent that led the investigation into former President Trump, Tim Thibault, has been escorted from the office. Then, today the Biden Administration recognized Transgender Day of Visibility. The U.S doesn't need to be in the business of promoting genitalia. Later, the Biden family is bought and paid for and there must be a special counsel to investigate the malfeasance of the Biden Family and Merrick Garland is too mired in his own controversy for the task. When it was Trump's family the lawyers worked overtime to accuse them of crimes. The Washington Post covered up Hunter's laptop, saying the story was Russian disinformation only to admit it was real 500 days after Biden took office. Afterward, Sen. Ron Johnson, Chairman of the U.S Senate Homeland Security Committee, joins the show to explain how Joe Biden was implicated on Hunter Biden's laptop and how this is the beginning of many questions. Sadly, the U.S doesn't have all the answers, but the intelligence agencies of China and 12 other countries likely know more than we do.

The more appeasement you show in the face of aggressive military action like Russia, the more brutal and aggressive they will become. Putin is now deciding what can and cannot be used on the battlefield. Specifically, regarding the MIG-29's the Pentagon says Ukraine doesn't need them because they won't be beneficial. Isn't it Ukraine that knows exactly what it needs and decides what's beneficial for their survival? Interestingly, when Trump was president, he was undermined by the Pentagon, by the FBI, and these same characters are covering for Biden's interference in the transfer of older U.S fighter jets to Poland so that Poland could donate MIG-29 jets to Ukraine. Putin is escalating his attack on civilians in Ukraine as he did in Syria and Chechnya. Yet all the media can do is say how terrible it is, but surmise that nothing can be done because Putin will nuke us if we get involved. However, the U.S has taken on the Soviets in many proxy wars in years past. When Russia invaded Afghanistan it paid a high price - 100,000 casualties. Lamentably, there is a fifth column within the conservative movement who supports Putin, who has clearly declared the U.S as an enemy. Some of them claim to be 'America First', yet none of this occurred during Trump's presidency. Putin has always wanted Ukraine and he's admitted to it. Our federal government, State Department, and White House are afraid of a stalemate between Ukraine and Russia because they feel Putin will use nuclear weapons. China has now pledged to financially support Russia in financing their war. This program has been clear in explaining why Ukraine is important to America and how specious Russia's claims are.  Despite the minimal support Ukraine has received, their gutsy president and cabinet have remained steadfast in their defense. The courageous stories of Ukrainians preparing to defend their homes and neighborhoods with homemade Molotov cocktails, rifles, and pistols matter because what happens in Ukraine matters. Churchill once said if the enemy is taking you down, take at least one of them with you. Later, Texas gubernatorial candidate and retired Army Lt. Col. Allen West says that putting the stranglehold on American energy has been painful and we must do the same to Russia. West added that the Democrats' policies are not only destroying our country and US foreign policy but have led to the decay of African American families as well. Afterward, Curtis Sliwa former New York City mayoral candidate joins the show to give his thoughts on Putin.

One not expected to behave this way—namely, a man—was able to create a more subversively powerful example of love in action.Jesus frees women too, in several ways.He shows that gender doesn’t determine worth or rank.Treated women with highest respect – unlike the world.Completely pure in how he viewed women: they were not objects, but subjects.Traditional way of blessing women depended on childbirth – Luke 11:27 – Jesus contradicts this.Discipleship:Luke 10 – called women to spend some time away from daily chores to sit at his feet as disciples. See also Luke 8.John 4 – the Samaritan woman is more the evangelist than the 12 apostles!CONCLUSIONOf course there’s more to be said:We haven’t even discussed the doctrine of the Trinity – how Jesus Christ was eternally the Son of God. (God couldn't send a "daughter" if he didn't have one.)or the scandal that would have surrounded an itinerant woman preacher gathering disciples…And we've only just begun to work through the implications for the current feminist controversy.I acknowledge the influence of Stanley Grentz's Theology for the Community of God, pp.289-292. For me his work was seminal, and helped me begin to think through this issue.In short, Jesus, in order to accomplish his mission, had to be a man.Not because men are better than women,but because otherwise life-bringing his message would have been:discounteddiluted or obscuredAnd the most effective modeling could only take place—in a patriarchal society—by a man.Hopefully this perspective will prove useful to you in your evangelism, in answering questions from outsiders but also from insiders.

Carl Jones, voiceover actor will be reading portions of the passionate letter that helps us to see the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s message and impact. So much of what he states in this letter is applicable for today as we wrestle again with the fight against racial injustice, Dr. King and his associates had some major approaches that we today can learn from and solve many issues that have already been faced before. We celebrate Dr. King and his legacy with his own words read aloud to be remember for years to come. The Words of Dr. Martin Luther King,  Jr:"One of the basic points in your statement is that the action that I and my associates have taken in Birmingham is untimely. Some have asked: "Why didn't you give the new city administration time to act?" The only answer that I can give to this query is that the new Birmingham administration must be prodded about as much as the outgoing one, before it will act. We are sadly mistaken if we feel that the election of Albert Boutwell as mayor will bring the millennium to Birmingham. While Mr. Boutwell is a much more gentle person than Mr. Connor, they are both segregationists, dedicated to maintenance of the status quo. I have hope that Mr. Boutwell will be reasonable enough to see the futility of massive resistance to desegregation. But he will not see this without pressure from devotees of civil rights. My friends, I must say to you that we have not made a single gain in civil rights without determined legal and nonviolent pressure. Lamentably, it is an historical fact that privileged groups seldom give up their privileges voluntarily. Individuals may see the moral light and voluntarily give up their unjust posture; but, as Reinhold Niebuhr has reminded us, groups tend to be more immoral than individuals.We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. Frankly, I have yet to engage in a direct action campaign that was "well timed" in the view of those who have not suffered unduly from the disease of segregation. For years now I have heard the word "Wait!" It rings in the ear of every Negro with piercing familiarity. This "Wait" has almost always meant "Never." Hebrews 13:7-8, 17 ESV 7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. HONOR YOUR LEADERS. Because of their faith, persecutions were common to Christians. Consequently, their leaders are the prime targets. They bore the shame attaching to their faith of Christ and had persevered in good works. Some of them did not survive. In this context, we are enjoined to remember them, with the focus to consider ‘who they were.' Official status was not yet defined and official titles were not yet universal during these times. In other words, their integrity stood out and spoke volumes, making them worthy examples to others. Since their lives were worth emulating, believers were enjoined to imitate their faith, that is, the way they live. For most leaders in the world, their oratorical or communication skills are given with primary importance. Whereas, for the spiritual leaders, their manner of life is. The manner of life of the pastor is closely entwined with his ministry. How he lives matters greatly. They may do things professionally, but they're not professionals. A professional [e.g. lawyer, doctor, engineer, etc.] may live a double-life. Yet, his effectiveness isn't hampered, if ever, it's significantly minimal. On the other hand, it's unthinkable, even unacceptable, if a spiritual leader has known moral issues. Though not perfect, he must be ‘above reproach'. [1 Tim 3:2] Who they are matter most than what they do. What is the reason of their tenacity in their faith? It's because of the immutability of Jesus, the object of their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. It's incumbent for all of us, therefore, to ‘look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.'[Heb 12:2] However, we need respectable spiritual leaders like Paul, who said, ‘Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.'[1 Cor 11:1]. Thus, Paul had recognized that his life had effectively influenced the believers in Thessalonica for Christ. He said, “And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit.” [1 Thess 1:6] Having seen their exemplary manner of life, we are enjoined to ‘obey and submit to them.'[see v.17] We do submit only to somebody who we trust, don't we? They are called to watch souls, with the purpose of care and protection. [see Acts 20:28] However, could they do it joyfully if we are either reluctant or resistant ourselves? This old adage is so true, “It's better to watch a thousand cattles than to do it for one soul.” Paul had expressed this pressure when he said, “And, apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxiety for all the churches.” [2 Cor 11:28] Lamentably, our religious world is littered with ‘spiritual predators' as wolves in sheeps clothing. Some of us may have been victims to their wily schemes. Thereby, we had lost trust to any leader, today. Don't throw the baby with the bath water. Or, you may be blessed by a good communicator or preacher via the internet in this Covid-19 locked down season. We give credit to the advances in technology for this. But, you can know for certain only the manner of life of your pastor at your home church – their dedication, sincerity and compassion. Thus, be prayerful, supportive and loyal to their leadership. Your pastor does only exercise leadership well if you offer it to him, doesn't he?

Lamentably, the Covid-19 crisis has gotten so out of hand that the stakeholders are in fear and letting fear determine their choices. The only way the crisis management team can get control over the narrative is to change the way the messaging is being released. And lamentably there has to be a scapegoat to blame the overreaction on.  The numbers...NYC is reporting 5,429 deaths and JHU is reporting 5,820 deaths in NYC. Compared to yesterday's numbers NYC is reporting 651 dead since yesterday and JHU is reporting 670 since yesterday. This, at least is a 19 point delta which is better than the 154 point delta seen on the 8th. Virginia is becoming California in the name of equity because it is equity that they use to quash dissent. Assimilation is to the English language is key to maintaining parity in our republic. Then, our doubts about the whistleblower have been accurate and the democrats keep playing politics with Lt. Col Alexander Vindman's testimony. Despite the outrageous report from the New York Times that Vindman, who was born in Ukraine, was advising the Ukrainian government on how to deal with President Trump and did so in Ukrainian, at times. It is entirely appropriate to question his motives. Later, Sen. Mazie Hirono berates Ken Cuccinelli, Director of the Citizenship and Immigration Services in a hearing, suggesting that he is implementing white supremacist policies at the agency. Finally, Lee Smith calls in to discuss his new book, The Plot Against the President: The True Story of How Congressman Devin Nunes Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal in U.S. History. The laws of economics are like the laws of physics — they don't change. Charles Reidell gets this right in his piece in National Review. Despite the Tea Party's 63 seat win in 2010 yet we still have an obsession with deficits and spending. President Obama's 2012 re-election slowed the Tea Party's momentum and spend-hearty Republicans returned to their old ways despite the spending cap bill. Today, just 15% of Republicans express any desire to spend less and we've seen this in the bloated budgets that they repeatedly send to President Trump. This is the most selfish generation in American history, and Thomas Jefferson warned us. This, combined with college for all, healthcare for all, and ever-increasing taxes on the highest income earners will only hurt America 50 years from now. Then, Democrats distract the electorate by picking at old scabs promising free everything, including reparations. Using race, gender, and income in the name of equality and compassion to divide the American people instead of uniting us around patriotism. The progressive left has no positive ideas for America, looking at their proposals it seems we have lost. Perhaps, if we had a legitimate press to serve as a check and balance we might hold the media accountable. This is why it's important to understand the teachings of Locke, Montesquieu, and the founders do that we can understand why we even have a press and what the purpose of hat press was intended to be. Lamentably our once patriotic press has evolved into a progressive press that's become the progeny of Marx and Hegel. If Mueller were a regular U.S. Attorney he'd be disbarred for writing such political fiction. A prosecutor's report is always confidential but Mueller's was made public by AG William Barr at Trump's request to be transparent and set the record straight. Then, according to Germen-American propagandist Edward Bernays, "[T]he new propaganda...takes account not merely of the individual, nor even of the mass mind alone, but also of the anatomy of society, with its interlocking group formations and loyalties... Touch a nerve at a sensitive spot and you get an automatic response from certain specific members of the organism." Lamentably, this describes many in our media today. Later, if Congress gets away with subpoenaing 10 years of the personal tax returns of a sitting president, and that of his businesses, and his children—then they will get away doing the same to a supreme court justice or even worse, to you and me and our children! This is the tyranny that the Democrats are pushing. Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would be the Person of the Trinity that would indwell us as we endeavor to live as disciples of Jesus. Through Him, we would be in intimate contact with the Godhead on a moment by moment basis. "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. (John 14:15-17) The Holy Spirit is called the Helper by Jesus for good reason. It is through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit that God will help us in all of life. One of the most crucial areas He desires to help us in is our relationships with others. Lamentably, this is an area that we usually try to handle in our own power, our own way. I say lamentably because we hardly ever get it right. The two greatest commands God has given us both involve relationships: And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' "This is the great and foremost commandment. "The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' "On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 22:37-40) None of our relationships can be their fullest without God’s help, and He wants to help more than you could ever imagine. In the 5th chapter of Ephesians we are given insight into what the love God wants looks like. Instead of being simply an emotion, the love God wants to see in us is actively exploring the other person in order to give what will please them. First of all, in our relationship with God, we are told: “Try to learn what pleases the Lord. “ (Ephesians 5:10) “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.” (Ephesians 5:17) Then, in the love between husbands and wives we see the same thing. God commands us to give to each other that which the other needs from us the most. Wives are commanded to respect their husbands, while husbands are commanded to love their wives. Dr. Larry Crabb tells us that a woman’s deepest need is to be able to share herself deeply with those close to her. She needs a safe environment in order to do this, so God has commanded husbands to provide it by loving them like Christ loves the Church. Dr. Crabb says that a man’s deepest need is to feel like he counts in some way in this world. For that reason, God has commanded wives to respect their husbands, thereby meeting that deepest need. God has set the precedent for us to follow in our relationship with God and between husbands and wives here: Find out what is important to them, and to the best of your ability, provide it. As you lovingly explore and try to provide, you will find God’s power through the presence of His Holy Spirit, will be with you, helping you, just as He promised.

Lamentably, however, the pursuit of this goal is often frustrated by the activities of field linguists, who seem to take perverse delight in presenting data that apparently contradicts whatever theory seems most promising at the time. Sometimes, the data can be reanalysed in a more reasonable fashion, but to this day I remember my bitter disappointment as a young postdoctoral fellow when no amount of analysis would make Welsh and Hebrew yield to the perfectly straightforward prediction of Metasyntactical Heuristics that all VSO languages should be ergative.
