Dit is geen pretpark, maar heeft wel hele toffe belevingen. Ook zijn we in Duinrell geweest en gaan in gesprek over het nieuwe themagebied en de nieuwe attractie. Naast deze parken gaan we het nog over hebben over Walibi Belgium... en was dit bezoek dit keer wel leuk? Oud-minister Tom de Bruijn werkt bijna zijn hele al leven op het snijvlak van de Nederlandse en de Europese politiek. Onder meer als permanent vertegenwoordiger van Nederland bij de Europese Unie in Brussel en daarvoor ‘chef Europa' in Den Haag. Hij begeleidde de premiers Wim Kok, Jan Peter Balkenende en Mark Rutte naar Eurotoppen en deed allerlei complexe en gevoelige onderhandelingen. Aan Jaap Jansen en PG Kroeger geeft hij een 'masterclass' over de verhouding tussen Nederland en Europa sinds de jaren '50, zoals hij die onlangs ook gaf in Parijs, ter voorbereiding op het staatsbezoek van president Emmanuel Macron op 11 en 12 april 2023.***Op sommige podcast-apps kun je niet alles lezen. De complete tekst vind je altijd hier***Zijn verhaal geeft ons een inkijkje in het concrete, dagelijkse werk van 'de pv' in Brussel. Die functie van permanent vertegenwoordiger - een combinatie van ambassadeur en beleidscoördinator van de regering bij de EU - bekleedde hij van 2003 tot 2011. De bijeenkomsten van de gezamenlijke pv's van de lidstaten noemt hij 'het Madurodam van de Europese Raad'. Hoe, met wie en met welke landen en krachten je onderhandelt op dat complexe Brusselse niveau maakt hij inzichtelijk met fraaie verhalen.Dat Nederland de voorbije 70 jaar niet altijd op eenzelfde manier naar de Europese integratie en de machtsverhoudingen binnen Europa keek, komt uit zijn analyse scherp naar voren. Scepsis bestond al in de jaren van premier Willem Drees, maar ook hij kon het zich niet veroorloven afzijdig te blijven. Al was het maar vanwege de cruciale handelsrelatie met West-Duitsland.Met de Fransen liep het vaak stroef. De Atlantische insteek en het idealistisch pragmatisme van de Nederlanders wekte vaak wantrouwen en onbegrip. Toch slaagde Ruud Lubbers erin op een van de heikelste problemen verrassend op één lijn te komen met president François Mitterrand. Samen overrompelden ze daarmee heel de EU. Minister Hans van Mierlo poogde vergeefs tot meer wederzijds begrip te komen, maar Jan Peter Balkenende dwong nogal wat respect af nadat hij Jacques Chirac met zijn stijfkoppigheid eerst tot razernij had weten te brengen.Nog meer argwaan ontmoette ons land na het afwijzen van de ‘Grondwet' in 2005 en daarna (tussen 2010 en 2012) de gedoogcoalitie met de PVV. Maar juist toen brak een nieuwe toon en benadering door. In de eurocrisis bleek Nederland inventief en creatief te zijn.De uitstekende band met bondskanselier Angela Merkel werd nog belangrijker toen met Brexit de eveneens goede relatie met de Britten in zijn tegendeel omsloeg. Brexit maakte Rutte stug tegen de ondermijners van de EU en voor Berlijn en Parijs werd hij nog meer een nuttige schakel. 'Wopke en de Zeven Dwergen' werd daar een effectief vervolg op.Na het vertrek van Merkel is Nederland nog meer een sleutellidstaat geworden, temeer omdat de Frans-Duitse as in een crisis verzeild is geraakt. MH17, Trump, Poetins inval in Oekraïne en de opmars van Xi Jinping hebben bovendien glashard doen voelen hoezeer een eensgezinde Unie met nieuwe politieke instrumenten van levensbelang is.Het lijkt er zelfs op dat Rutte hiermee wel degelijk iets van visie heeft ontwikkeld. De premier zoekt ook in veel bredere kring nu invloed en contacten voor ons land binnen de EU. De band met Macron is opvallend sterk geworden, maar bijvoorbeeld ook met Spanje is de relatie en het wederzijds begrip ook veel beter geworden.Dit wijst erop dat voor ons land en de EU als geheel een nieuwe tijd is aangebroken. Poetins oorlog heeft dat nog extra aangemoedigd. Marguerite Soeteman-Reijnen haalde tijdens haar studie rechten in één ronde acht vakken en werd vlak daarna benaderd door Bloemers, waar ze begon op de afdeling herverzekering. Daar startte Marguerite haar loopbaan als trainee en klom de carrièreladder tot Chief Marketing Officer en Chairman Executive Board bij Aon Holdings. Aon was net een snoepwinkel: gewend aan een Nederlands familiebedrijf kwam ze bij een internationaal bedrijf terecht en kon ze altijd de groei doormaken die ze wilde. Bij Aon dachten ze altijd met Marguerite mee en daardoor kon ze opleidingen volgen bij Insead en Harvard Business School. “Mensen, cultuur, internationaal” is altijd de rode lijn van haar loopbaan geweest. Waar je dan uiteindelijk eindigt volgens Marguerite is: “een functie in een groot bedrijf met veel verantwoordelijkheid, maar vooral met veel mooie en leuke mensen over de hele wereld.” Buiten haar werkkring was Marguerite nog verder op zoek naar een uitdaging en is toen gerold in het bestaan van toezichthouder op jonge leeftijd. Van commissariaten bij Madurodam, Stichting ALS, Gelre Ziekenhuizen, NautaDutilh tot de American Chamber of Commerce houden de toezichthoudende functies voor Marguerite de band met eigen land dicht aan de borst. Daarnaast zet Marguerite zich actief in voor diversiteit en gelijkwaardigheid als voorzitter van SER TOPvrouwen. Marguerite ervoer al vroeg in haar loopbaan hoe het is om als één van de weinige vrouwen in de verzekeringssector rond te lopen. Door middel van assertiviteit en humor heeft ze geleerd te overleven. Het was niet altijd even makkelijk, maar ze heeft er bijzonder veel van geleerd. Madurodam startte als een fondsenwerver voor Tuberculosis. Studenten waren aan het brainstormen over een manier om meer geld op te halen. Het park is voor en door kinderen, met jaarlijks wisselende burgemeesters en meerdere wethouders. En elk jaar halen ze €700.000 euro op voor goede doelen die kinderen steunen.  In onze 21ste HelloMasters podcast episode praten we met Joris van Dijk, algemeen directeur van Madurodam. We gaan diep in op de geschiedenis van de miniatuurstad. Joris geeft ons de ins en outs over innovatie binnen de pretparken industrie. Oma vond het park nog wel leuk, maar de kinderen zeiden nee, nee. De ervaring in het park was te statisch, geen interacties. Deze week had ik drie bijzondere gasten voor de Slobcast. Ties (17 jaar), de burgemeester en Miriam (16 jaar), een wethouder van Madurodam schoven namelijk aan om te praten over de Nationale Kinderherdenking op 4 mei. Wist je bijvoorbeeld dat Madurodam een oorlogsmonument is? Ook sprak ik met Minne. Minne is 11 jaar en haar overgrootmoeder zat tijdens de oorlog in het verzet. Een heel bijzonder verhaal. In Betrouwbare Bronnen aflevering 25:Kim Putters, directeur van het Sociaal en Cultureel Planbureau praat in deze Betrouwbare Bronnen over smeulende kwesties in de samenleving. Deze week verscheen zijn boek ‘Veenbrand’. ChristenUnie-leider Gert-Jan Segers, te gast in BB afl. 21, doet bij elk nieuw beleidsvoorstel ‘de Kim Putters-proef’. Dan probeert hij de vraag te beantwoorden of dat beleid de kloof verkleint tussen de bevolkingsgroep die positief en optimistisch in het leven staat en de groep die het vaak veel somberder inziet. In deze ‘Bronnen’ neemt Jaap Jansen met Putters een aantal onderwerpen door getoetst aan precies die vraag.Kim Putters ziet in Nederland niet zo snel gele hesjes opkomen zoals in Frankrijk. Maar: ‘In Nederland is een veel grotere groep, de middeninkomens, die onzeker is over de toekomst: vind ik straks nog werk bij de volgende crisis? Is mijn diploma nog wat waard? En mijn pensioen? Dat is niet meteen boosheid, maar wel de vraag: doet de politiek nog wat voor mij? Dat is de groep die in de stemhokjes het verschil maakt. Tweeverdieners met hypotheekschuld, kinderen op school en ouders die mantelzorg nodig hebben. Mensen die alle ballen tegelijk omhoog moeten houden en zich afvragen of dat wel blijft lukken. Die mensen hebben nog geen geel hesje aan, maar het hangt al wel op de kapstok.’Kim Putters waarschuwt de politiek. Maar hij heeft ook goed nieuws: ‘Heel veel jonge mensen zijn ontzettend politiek geëngageerd. Er is echt een generatie op aan 't staan die wars is van technocratische politiek,; het runnen van de BV Nederland met heel veel regels. Die willen iets bereiken. Dat is een heel goed teken. Politici die daar woord en geluid aan geven, zullen draagvlak vinden bij jonge mensen.’En die hernieuwde politieke belangstelling gaan we misschien zelfs zien bij de Europese verkiezingen op 23 mei, zegt Kim Putters. ‘Mijn voorspelling is dat de opkomst bij de Europese verkiezingen wel eens hoger zou kunnen zijn dan de afgelopen keren. Sinds de vorige verkiezingen hebben we een vluchtelingencrisis gehad, we zijn hersteld van een economische crisis maar lang niet iedereen, overal zijn verkiezingen geweest met heel ingewikkelde discussies over integratie, we hebben de Brexit - er is wel heel veel gebeurd waar heel veel mensen zich bezorgd, boos of wat dan ook over maken. Dat zou er wel eens toe kunnen leiden dat bij deze Europese verkiezingen mensen wel hun stem uit gaan brengen. Omdat mensen ook wel zien dat bijvoorbeeld het vluchtelingenvraagstuk alleen maar met elkaar in Europa opgelost kan worden. 85 procent van de mensen geeft aan dat ze vinden dat Nederland binnen de Europese Unie beter af is. Dat komt vooral door de Brexit.'*** Het China van nu ontstond in de jaren ‘80 toen de bejaarde heerser Deng Xiao Ping het land opende naar het Westen. PG Kroeger vertelt over die fase, die ten grondslag ligt aan wat Ties Dams in aflevering 24 vertelde over de huidige machthebbers onder leiding van Xi Jinping.Ook toen stond het regime pal voor de eenheid van China, tegen separatisme en voor de heerschappij van de Partij. Terwijl men het land opende werd Nederland juist gestraft en geïsoleerd omdat het onderzeeboten verkocht aan ‘de opstandige provincie’ Taiwan. Totdat er een opvallende, kleine deur werd opengezet!PG vertelt over de onderhandelingen in Beijing en fascinerende gesprekken en belevenissen met de 'grand old man' van de wetenschap in China, Lu Xiaxi, toen president van de Chinese Academie van Sociale Wetenschappen. Vandaag hebben we een bespreking van het tweede concept van het SP verkiezingsprogramma en, veel meer nog, over de ontwikkelingen in en rondom Venezuela. Is dit het einde van Madurodam?

In 1973 werd in het miniatuurpark Madurodam in Den Haag een maquette van Willemstad onthuld door Koningin Juliana. Jarenlang gingen Antillianen naar Madurodam om hun Willemstad te zien. Ook Maduro, de naamgever van het miniatuurpark, moet postuum trots zijn geweest dat zijn geboortestad in het park vertegenwoordigd was. Maar in 1991 verdween de maquette en verscheen hij ineens op Antilliaanse feestjes. Vervolgens reisde de maquette via zolders en kinderkamers zelfs af naar Curaçao. Documentairemaker Jesper Buursink reist samen met kunstenaarscollectief Pink Pony Express de maquette achterna en probeert te achterhalen waarom de maquette uit het miniatuurpark verdween.

Daniel Verkerk vind ik een fantastisch schilder, maar hij heeft het 2 dimensionale allang achter zich gelaten. In zijn schilderijen probeerde hij al naar 3D te gaan en werden ze steeds dikker en boller, staken ze steeds verder uit de lijst, totdat ie niet meer verder kon. Zijn onderwerpen? De wereld, de massa, dat wat de mens met de aardkloot doet. En wie daar over gaan. Wie nemen de beslissingen? In de parlementen over de hele wereld wordt beslist hoe de wereld eruit ziet. En Daniel wilde dat laten zien:waar al die beslissingen toe leiden en ging een wereld bouwen in 3D en toont hoe wij die volplempen met steeds maar meer, steeds meer energie is er voor nodig. Voor Daniel komt ook de vierde dimensie hier meedoen…je bent steeds meer IN het kunstwerk en dag en nacht, toen en nu bestaat allemaal op hetzelfde moment… Ik sprak um bij de opening. Spreken met kunstenaars kan tricky zijn, uitleg vragen dodelijk, dus u hoort vooral La Lier het een en ander interpreteren… Ga naar de Oranje Vrijstaatkade naar de CBK in Amsterdam-Oost, pal naast het Stadsdeelkantoor-Oost.
