On today's episode I have Redgie Probst, COO of Quanta Services with me. Because we get questions often about how people can get involved in trade and what opportunities are out there in those fields, I wanted Redgie to provide direction and information on Quanta as well as various trade fields. Redgie shares his background in agriculture as well as how his hard work ethic and his dislike for school brought him to trades. We discuss college versus trade school and what the process of training for a trade looks like. In this episode you'll hear how it's never too late to start in trade while still being involved in agriculture. Redgie Probst began his career in the trades at the Utah Valley University lineworker program. Developing his skills in the field, he attained certifications as a Journeyman Lineman, Journeyman Substation Technician, and Master Electrician. Through his experience in the trades, Probst recognized the opportunity posed by unmet needs in the industry, and founded Probst Electric Inc. in 2004 and Summit Line Construction, Inc in 2008. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of both companies until they were acquired by Quanta in November 2013. He has served in various roles within Quanta, including Regional Vice President of Electric Power, Senior Vice President of Electric Power, and President of Electric Power. In January 2022, Probst was appointed Chief Operating Officer. Probst is a third-generation rancher who is passionate about building better lives for individuals and their communities through work in the trades. Scott Allison, a master electrician and plumbing apprentice, to explore the intricacies of the skilled trades. Scott's journey began in California as a handyman, doing tile, painting, drywall, and lighting. Over the years, he has gained extensive experience working in commercial and industrial trades. Now, he leads plumbing operations at Milestone, a residential/home service company in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Scott shares his unique perspective on the differences between open shop and union work, essential books for tradesmen, and what it takes to be an effective journeyman and leader. They discuss whether 8,000 hours are necessary for journeyman licensing, the importance of hands-on learning, and the evolving role of online education in the trades. Discover Milestone's hiring practices, where they test the general knowledge of tools and bits of green plumbers. Scott explains why prior knowledge of tools is beneficial, although sometimes they prefer completely green apprentices who can earn $15-$20 an hour. Hear a cautionary tale of a plumber's mistake that led to a house fire and learn about quality control measures that maintain trust and safety in the industry. “Coach Aaron” Behunin works with CertainPath contractors on improving their businesses when he's not traveling the country, training electricians on the advanced communications and sales strategies required to deliver a 5-star residential electrical service call every time. Coach Aaron's understanding of that process is rooted in his nearly 20 years in residential electrical service, as a Master Electrician and high revenue producing one, as well. He's been implementing and perfecting the CertainPath system for his entire career. Today, his training is in high-demand, and every class sells out. In this show, Aaron will share advanced sales tips and strategies residential electricians can immediately implement to put homeowners at ease, better educate them, and ultimately generate more revenue. Among the topics Aaron covers is how to… Build a strong mindset that allows you to win on every service call. Make a connection and maintain a connection with the homeowner at the beginning and throughout a call. Empathize and reassure the customer that you can alleviate their concern that day. Gain control of the call immediately by setting proper expectations early. Properly sell diagnostics in a way that both homeowners and electricians understand. Always gain the ability to perform a safety inspection on every call. Ask discovery questions to unveil what customers are thinking about potential repairs and upgrades to their home. Educate homeowners on the risks and rewards of any potential repair needed in the home. Dramatically increase your electrical club membership sales with some tangible steps. Properly transition from a ceiling fan call to a panel change-out opportunity. Overcome objections like, “I think I need to get other bids.” Plus, Aaron shares how the trades saved his life; why training must become a part of your company culture; how to actually make training fun; and why you should stop role-playing and instead do skills practice… (Because it's easy, and I like it!) Greetings Everyone.Tonight we are going to talk about an individual who has caused so many lies and has misled so many people in his Facebook forum yet some folks don't really know the real Bill Snyder. So, tonight we set the record straight and explain all the situations that lead to why Mr. Snyder hates me so much. From copying others' content and cutting it up for his hardly-listened podcast to spreading false information and stirring up discord and hate within his Facebook group. WE expose Bill, a journeyman electrician from Colorado who has never achieved Master Electrician status yet holds himself out to be an NEC Expert on forums like Mike Holt and others. This will not be a name-bashing event, I am simply setting the record straight on this individual and why folks should be very careful when dealing with someone with a potentially bipolar condition.
“Running crew, run crew or stage crew, is a collective term used in the theatre to describe the members of the technical crew who supervise and operate ("run") the various technical aspects of the production during a performance.[1][2] While the "technical crew" includes all persons other than performers involved with the production, such as those who build and take down the sets and place the lighting, the term "running crew" is generally limited to those who work during an actual performance. The term is typically not applied to crew or department heads, although there are exceptions. The running crew may include performers if they also function in technical capacities while offstage. Crew positions A typical running crew will include any or all of the following positions, depending on the nature and size of the production, and the complexity of the technical requirements. Each position is organized by the most common title; depending on the country, type of production, and producing organization, different titles may be used for the same position. Stage management Assistant stage manager: Assists the stage manager in their duties. Generally, one assistant stage manager is in charge of running backstage operations during a show. Props: responsible for maintenance and placement of hand props before scenes as well as their subsequent retrieval after the scene. Call boy: responsible for alerting actors and actresses of their entrances in time for them to appear on stage, on cue. Lighting Light board operator: operates the [stage lighting|lighting control system]. Sometimes this is integrated with the show control system. Deck Electrician: responsible for placing, connecting, and/or operating stage lighting units, such as stage lights. Sometimes, they are necessary to have during scene changes, in the case of moving set pieces with lighting equipment inside. Typically, more than one will be backstage. Master Electrician: responsible for the maintenance and operation of dimming & power distribution systems during a performance, including "hot" or "live" patching. Occasionally, some of these duties could also be delegated to the run crew's deck electricians. Spotlight Operator (or follow spot operator/dome operator): operates a type of lighting instrument called a follow spot, which allows a performer to be lit evenly no matter where on stage they may go. It can typically be found in the lighting booth, along with the light board op. Also, some theaters have followed spots located above a false ceiling, on the catwalk. Sound Sound operator (A1): operates the sound board and/or audio control system specified by the sound designer, computerized or otherwise. Sometimes this is integrated with the show control system. There can be multiple soundboard ops. Mic wrangler (A2): manages microphones and maintains headsets as a show runs. Usually, there are several mic wranglers located backstage, in the wings, with the running crew. Stage Flymen (or fly crew/rail crew): operate the fly system, a system of ropes or wires, pulleys, and counterweights by means of which scenery is "flown" in and out (down and up, respectively) during scene changes. Stagehand: A technician responsible for moving scenery at the stage level, by manually carrying or rolling set pieces (e.g., scenery wagons) between the stage and the wings. This can include carrying on and off furniture, props, or scenery. Costumes Wardrobe: A costume designer is responsible for creating, purchasing, and the placement of costumes. They have assistants who help with fittings and quick changes (when an actor needs to change costume very quickly, often backstage). Makeup: responsible for applying or assisting in the application of face and body paints, wigs and hairpieces, etc.[1]” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

What's up everyone! On this episode of the MEP, Josh and I travel from our beautiful, historic hometown of Frederick, Maryland to nearby Williamsport to hang with one of our favorite local electricians, Josh Burch. Josh is a Master Electrician and owner / operator of J. Burch Electric, a boutique, family-owned electric company based in Falling Waters, WV. We met at Cushwa Brewing, a Williamsport staple, to enjoy some local beer and the amazing pizzas from Rad Pies Md. The owners and staff at Cushwa Brewing were kind enough to offer us a space to record this episode so we set up an impromptu studio for the first time since our trip to Austin last year, and started talking. Josh is a great guy, fellow dog lover and one hell of an electrician! Recording an episode live like this was so much fun! We've definitely got some live audio / production kinks to work out but we're getting better with every episode we record and produce. We're excited about the possibilities of traveling to nearby places and recording more live episodes with tradespeople just like you! It might even be you! In today's episode, Josh and I sit down with Jason Hogan, owner / operator of Amphitrite Electric out of Uculet, BC. We talk surfing in Canada, work culture, the Milwaukee M12 series, staying small as a company and a few other things. We picked up a lot during this talk with Jason but our biggest takeaway was his go-with-the-flow approach to life and the trades.
