Let's close out this year in grand style as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck: (6:48) With 2024 winding down, I open with the latest headlines heading into the final week of the NFL season. I'll uncover the Vikings shocking season behind QB Sam Darnold as they're in control of their own destiny for the top seed in the NFC, battling the Lions for supremacy in the conference. Who'll come out with the #7 seed in the AFC between Denver, Miami and Cincinnati? What about the NFC South with Tampa Bay currently ahead of Atlanta, but the Falcons have the tiebreaker if they end up with the same record? Does Saquon Barkley break Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record? What about his former team, the Giants, winning their first home game this year but lose the chance for the #1 pick in next years' draft? The NFL is gloating about having 65 million people watch at least one minute of the two Christmas Day games on Netflix. You know I have to dump cold water on that. I'll also send my condolences to the Gumbel family as Greg passed away on Friday at the age of 78 due to cancer. (33:00) The second round of the college football playoff commences tomorrow night. I'll get into the top storylines of what to expect, from Boise and Arizona State's chances to move on after gaining first round byes. Will Ohio State exact revenge from an early season loss to Oregon? Can Penn State continue their magical run? How about the Fighting vs. Georgia? I'll have every bit of what the quarterfinals will look like and play out over the next couple of days. (50:03) Is the NBA becoming the WWE? There were a couple of brawls over the weekend with suspension handed down, which begs the question, is physical play in the Association a necessity? A trade was made between the Lakers and Nets as D'Angelo Russell heads back to Brooklyn where Dorian Finney-Smith moves west. The Sacramento Kings canned coach Mike Brown. Was it warranted? Jimmy Butler will stay put in Miami as per president Pat Riley, but what's with this competitive reconditioning phrase because of Butler's absence from the lineup. Is this the new load management? I'll check around the league for the latest as both OKC and Cleveland continue their torrid streaks in the West & East. (1:07:26) Anyone psyched for the NHL Winter Classic? It's on January 1st, correct? It is not and who is playing in the game? The league has dropped the puck on not truly showcasing its signature game as it'll be played on New Year's Eve in Chicago (Wrigley Field) where the Blackhawks will play against the Blues. How about Alexander Ovechkin? He returns from a fractured leg where he scores two goals in two games, is 25 goals away from Wayne Gretzky's all time scoring record. Is this man bionic at the age of 39? I'll see what else is happening around the ice as the New Year is on the horizon. (1:17:38) Another big MLB free agent is off the books as pitcher Corbin Burnes signs with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Did his former team, the Orioles, put up an offer? Actually what is going on in Baltimore as they haven't added anyone of note this offseason to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox in their division. Also, what's the latest with Pete Alonso? Is that Met offer of 3 years for $90 million legit? Gleyber Torres signs with the Tigers for one year. And Teoscar Hernandez re-ups with the Dodgers on a three year deal. (1:25:28) I want to shout out YOU, the followers, subscribers and fans of the podcast. Thank YOU for all of your support. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In 12/28/24. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS Race Soldier's calendar says this is the final weekend of the 2024 year. Broadcasting legend and Victim of White Supremacy Greg Gumbel died this week at the age of 78 - which is kind of privileged for black males. Gumbel was one of the first black male television broadcasters on a major television network. In recent years, he was a fixture of CBS' coverage of the March NCAA basketball tournament - right alongside Luther Vandross's rendition of "One Shining Moment." Sadly, not surprisingly, Greg and his brother Bryant Gumbel have both been maligned for not being "black enough"/"sellouts" - whatever that means. With preconception, Gus was stunned to learn that Gumbel was once sued by the state of Arizona. This kerfuffle revolved around the desert state's deep rooted rejection of a federal holiday for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Gumbel reported that the NFL considered rejecting Arizona as a location to host the Super Bowl game if they refused to refine their Racism and accept the King holiday. Gumbel was eventually dismissed from the suit. #BlackMalePrivilege #TheCOWS16Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

On November 2, 2016, thirty-four-year-old so-called “Supermom” Sherri Papini went out for a run near her home in Redding, California, and disappeared without a trace. Three weeks later, on Thanksgiving Day, Sherri was discovered on the side of the road in a nearby county, where she said her captors had released her. In the days that followed, Sherri claimed she had been kidnapped by two unknown Latin American women, who physically abused her, including branding her on the shoulder with the word “Exodus.” The case garnered considerable attention from the local and national media, but when it came to details on her abductors and their motives, Sherri was surprisingly tight-lipped, giving the police and FBI little to work with. In March 2022, more than five years after her supposed abduction, the nation was shocked to learn that federal agents had arrested Papini and charged her with faking her own kidnapping. A month later, Sherri pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to more than a year in prison. Last month, I shared with you about the importance of estate planning. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala did not leave the matters of inheritance to human interpretation. Islamic law of inheritance is coded as law in the Holy Qur'an and in Surah An-Nisa. That underscores the importance of matters of money when a person dies. And yet...most of us have neglected to create and organize our estate plans. Partly because it can be a confusing, difficult process to navigate! So today, I have brought on a guest to clarify some of the details of estate planning: estate-planning attorney and probate attorney Jen Gumbel! Jen is very familiar with both Islamic laws for inheritance and the legal intricacies that come with estate planning. I believe you are going to benefit greatly from the information she has to share! A., Lorio, E., Torres-Espin, A., Radabaugh, H. L., Davis, J. A., Gumbel, J. H., Huie, J. R., Ferguson, A. R. Abstract: Western blot is a popular biomolecular analysis method for measuring the relative quantities of independent proteins in complex biological samples. However, variability in quantitative western blot data analysis poses a challenge in designing reproducible experiments. The lack of rigorous quantitative approaches in current western blot statistical methodology may result in irreproducible inferences. Here we describe best practices for the design and analysis of western blot experiments, with examples and demonstrations of how different analytical approaches can lead to widely varying outcomes. To facilitate best practices, we have developed the blotRig tool for designing and analyzing western blot experiments to improve their rigor and reproducibility. The blotRig application includes functions for counterbalancing experimental design by lane position, batch management across gels, and analytics with covariates and random effects. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Andrew Gumbel. A English-born Oxford University alumnus, Mr. Gumbel ““worked for more than twenty years as a foreign correspondent for British newspapers the Guardian and the Independent, including assignments in the Balkans, Italy, the Middle East, and, since 1998, the United States. He has won awards for investigative reporting and political commentary, and written widely for U.S. publications including the Los Angeles Times and The Atlantic.” Gumbel is a White Man, a Racist Suspect. The Katherine Massey Book Club just concluded Dave Cullen's Columbine, which details the failed 1999 bombing in Colorado. Gus began connecting the dots to the many White bombers of the decade. The late Ted ‘Unabomber' Kaczynski, Eric Rudolph - who bombed the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, and McVeigh were all actively terrorizing in the '90's. We'll discuss the 2012 publication that Gumbel co-authored, OKLAHOMA CITY. The text details how McVeigh's trial was relocated to Denver, and he and Kaczynski shared the same unit of a Colorado supermax prison. We'll discuss Gumbel's research on the FBI investigation in the bombing and if they ignored or failed to investigate other White Supremacists who may have helped massacre 168 people at the Alfred P. Murrah building. Many of them children. We'll try to include evidence of McVeigh's “bisexuality.” #KeepItProfessional #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

Nicky and Pippa Gumbel are among the most influential leaders of the church today, on a global scale. They have a unique vantage point on the state of the world, and the challenges facing our generation as believers. At the same time, they are humble and unassuming, so approachable and genuinely kind, that they would love to share a cup of tea with you if they met you. This rare balance is deeply attractive, and the fruit of a lifetime of dependence on the Holy Spirit. Stephanie and her husband Jonah have the deepest respect for them, and find themselves blessed to get to learn from them. When they lived in the UK with their pre-teen kids, they attended the church where the Gumbels were pastoring, Holy Trinity Brompton in South Kensington, London. One of the fastest growing churches in the UK, HTB is a multi-site church that the Gumbels only recently retired from. Stephanie welcomes them on the show today, and she is ready with a lot of questions! They talk about the state of the universal church of Christ today in the world, from their perspective –  including a word of encouragement for the new generation and the red flags they are noticing in the culture. They share where they think the power of influence is shifting, and how we can depend on Christ to guide us in the challenges ahead. Their passion for defining the line between Scripture and culture leads to some great advice on what it looks like for our generation. Nicky shares one thing he regrets, and Pippa shares about the power of revival and trusting God's sovereignty through life. Having been married 45 years, Pippa and Nicky share wisdom and insights into the makings of a marriage that holds the distance to the glory of God. Their dependence on the Holy Spirit is palpable, and deeply attractive. They tell us about the Alpha Course, the global phenomenon that invites spiritual seekers to embrace faith through conversations and personal connections. If you do not know the Alpha Course, Stephanie warmly invites you to discover it and to try it out. In this Easter season, it is the perfect time to invite your seeking friends to attend. Join them for a life-changing experience of faith! Pippa and Nicky share with us how they are running their race with perseverance, through the hardships and the good times, and pray for us at the end of our time together. You WANT to receive this prayer for yourself, so make sure to tune in! DISCOVER THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR APP: https://bibleinoneyear.org/en/ The Bible in One Year is a daily Bible reading plan which takes you through the whole Bible in 365 days.  It is ideal for anyone who is looking for an easy and accessible way to read and understand the Bible. The Bible in One Year will encourage you to engage more closely with the Bible, to apply its teachings to everyday life and to grow in your relationship with Jesus. Nicky Gumbel is the pioneer of Alpha and Vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton in London, which he leads with his wife Pippa. Together, they introduced the Bible in One Year commentary in 2009 as a daily email for their congregation. Since then, it has become a successful app, book, podcast and website with a global following. Join them today as they take you through every chapter and verse of the Bible, sharing their reflections and prayers along the way. Nicky says, “Join us as we read the Bible each day. It's a practice that we have been doing for over 30 years and we hope it will benefit your life as much as it has ours.” DISCOVER THE ALPHA COURSE: https://alpha.org/ Alpha is a series of conversations about things we all question in life: Why do bad things happen to good people? What's the purpose of life? What's next? If you're looking for a judgment-free space to ask hard questions and share your own opinion, there's a place for you. Connection | Connecting with others is what we were made for. All sessions start with a time to connect and build friendships, eliminating awkwardness and creating space for important conversations. Content | Alpha's content explores the big questions we all ask, and guests from any background can unpack the basics of Christian faith. Bring your questions, you'll find you're not alone. Today, Ed is joined by Jen Gumbel, an estate planning and probate attorney based in Minnesota. She established Organized (after)Life to change how people think about estate planning and legacy. Jen loves getting into the family dynamics around estate planning, her superpower being her ability to help people walk through legal issues or reduce the legal to-do list they'll leave for their loved ones. As she puts it, “I share the tools and information that all of us in ‘death law' wish every client knew coming in and show people when and why working with an attorney is important.” Listen in as Jen explains the difference between “legacy” and “wealth” and how our perspective on mortality shapes the decisions we make concerning our assets. She also encourages beneficiaries to treat their family business as a real business, and to avoid banking one's financial future on an inheritance to avoid disappointment down the road if the process does not go as smoothly as imagined. Jen also lists the dos and don'ts of communicating with older clients about the importance of estate planning. In a similar vein, she addresses common mental and emotional roadblocks that often come with facilitating discussions between family members unaccustomed to talking about their finances with each other. Key Topics: About Jen and family dynamics around estate planning and probate (01:25) Examining common perceptions of death (06:45) How the legal process can facilitate a more flexible holding of the family business (08:19) Going beyond the handshake (10:58) Facilitating communication between family members (13:35) Applying the Swedish mindset to estate planning (17:33) Why Jen decide to get into estate planning and probate (24:05) How financial anxiety stops people from absorbing advice (27:54) The “reverse sex talk” (30:10) Taking over your parents' medical debts (40:17) How Jen fills the typical knowledge gap around estate planning (45:04) Resources: OrganizedAfterLife.com Connect With Healthy Love and Money: Schedule your free 30-Minute Discovery Call About Therapy-Informed Financial Planning™. Logarithmic Duality of the Curvature Perturbation by Shi Pi et al. on Monday 28 November We study the comoving curvature perturbation $mathcal{R}$ in general single-field inflation models whose potential can be approximated by a piecewise quadratic potential $V(varphi)$ by using the $delta N$ formalism. We find a general formula for $mathcal{R}(deltavarphi)$, which consists of a sum of logarithmic functions of the field perturbation $deltavarphi$ at the point of interest, as well as of its field velocity perturbations $deltapi_*$ at the boundaries of each quadratic piece, which are functions of $deltavarphi$ through the equations of motion. In some simple cases, $mathcal{R}(deltavarphi)$ reduces to a single logarithm, which yields either the renowned ``exponential tail'' of the probability distribution function of $mathcal{R}$ or the Gumbel distribution. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.13932v1

Head to a French school and suggest a game of chess, and you may have a bunch of nervous kids before you! Echecs is indeed the word used for chess, but it's also a word linked to failure – and one that's bandied about far more in the French school system than elsewhere. The last thing you can say about Greg Gumbel is he's a wallflower. One of the elder statesmen of sports broadcasting isn't shy when comes to offering an opinion whether it's on his industry or The Rolling Stones. Yes, the Stones whom Gumbel argues is the best band ever, even better than the Beatles. I beg to differ. But Gumbel is best known for his versatility. He's been a play by play voice for many sports like the NFL, the NCAA tournament and the Olympics, plus one of the top studio hosts of this generation. And his brother happens to be Bryant, the host of Real Time Sports on HBO.
