rWotD Episode 2470: I Ain't Mad No More Welcome to random Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of a random Wikipedia page every day.The random article for Wednesday, 7 February 2024 is I Ain't Mad No More.I Ain't Mad No More is the second album by Virginia–native rapper Skillz. The album featured guest appearances by Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, Danja Mowf, Kandi, Pretty Ugly, Big Swells, Musiq Soulchild, AAries, Cee-Lo Green, Pretty Willie, Jazze Pha and Nicole Wray's brother Kenny Wray. The album generated one charting single, "Crew Deep", which peaked at #83 on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Two other promo singles, "Your Favorite Joints" and "Ghostwriter," were excluded from the album but were added to its sampler release. The lack of success from the album's lead single ("Crew Deep") resulted in a cancellation of the album's U. S. release and a granted promotional release in Canada was made instead. However, Skillz would feature most of the album's tracks on his U. S. independent release, Confessions of a Ghostwriter (2005).This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:40 UTC on Wednesday, 7 February 2024.For the full current version of the article, see I Ain't Mad No More on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Matthew Neural.

At 15, Nicole Wray auditioned for Missy Elliot in her mother's Virginia home and got signed on the spot. Fast forward a couple of decades, and we know her as Lady Wray, an arresting artist with a compelling sound birthed from early years singing in church. “Come On In” is one of those songs that welcomes you in.

Lady Wray - "Melody (feat. Melody Bloom Bacote)" from the 2021 album Piece of Me on Big Crown Records. Nicole Wray's musical career is a long and winding one, with a series of highs like collaborating with Missy Elliot and then getting signed to her label, a certified gold single with 1998's “Make It Hot,” and doing background vocals for The Black Keys and Lee Fields. Her lows, on the other hand, were devastating. A series of re-signings to various labels from Goldmind to Roc-A-Fella to Def Jam to Dame Dash Music Group led to album pushback after album pushback, stalling her career in a massive way. In truth, she should've been an R&B superstar. Thankfully, Wray didn't give up because her latest record under the name Lady Wray, January's Piece of Me, is a brilliant blend of soul, R&B and hip hop that feels like an instant classic. Our Song of the Day, “Melody,” is a touching ode to the profound love she's come to feel from her daughter. A stripped-down guitar ballad, Wray exudes raw emotion over the finger-picked melody. The voice of her daughter sweetly asking, “Is that a star?' comingles with her sometimes strained, cracked voice for a moment that feels intimate and very real. We're back with another podcast. It's been a minute since we had a special guest, so we decided to reach out to Digital Black of the R&B group Playa. If you don't remember them, they had the hit single "Cheers 2U" and they also wrote songs for the likes of Aaliyah, Ginuwine and Nicole Wray. We started off the podcast by talking about Da Bassment and all of the artists that came from that camp. We also talk about Timbaland's impact on R&B and whether it had a negative impact on the genre. We also talk about some of the R&B artists who have gotten forgotten like Tevin Campbell and Al B. Sure. We discuss whether the impact of Jodeci and Mary J. Blige had a part in a lot of the New Jack Swing artists fading away. We talk the lack of R&B groups and slow jams in today's industry. We also talk about Joe's new album and whether it passed the YouKnowIGotSoul review. For the food discussion, we discuss fried chicken and whether KFC is at the the top of anyone's list. Being that Digital Black is from Kentucky, you would expect him to say yes but stay tuned.

This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Ausar Ra Black Hawk for the week of May 27, 2015 [a flashback episode due to a bit of illness + a LOT of press activities that week; originally broadcast on the week of December 8, 2009] with some new and classic music from the international Black Diaspora, news and commentary. Our commentary during that week focused on more of the overblown mainstream media saga with the coverage of Tiger Woods' infidelity and it's ties to race & sex issues, the importance of Soul Music singer Sade's latest single and upcoming album in 2010 and some other things here and there. This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of September 29, 2010 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. ** This is a flashback episode of the radio show that was originally put on during the week of December 22, 2009.... ** Our commentary this week focused on the upcoming Holiday Season and some other things here and there. We had another great interview this week with media expert and author David Mathison (http://www.BeTheMedia.com) on his latest book, "Be The Media". We talked about a lot of important Independent Media topics that are covered in "Be The Media", ranging from: * the importance of now that almost anyone is able to create & distribute all sorts of media content cheaper and easier than ever (books, websites, radio shows, video, etc.) * Copyright vs. Creative Commons * various U.S. laws that have restricted the creative offerings of mainstream media (TV, Radio, etc.) through controls in how things are distributed and what the average person can do about it can be done about it * how those entering into the Music Industry overall needs to hop onto using all forms of Independent Media to form a solid & dedicated fanbase while still earning money & keeping creative freedom * and LOTS of other things! There aren't new episodes of Black Agenda Report or Direct EFX segments due to the length of this week's interview.
