My Queen II boxset finally arrived, and I'm beyond jazzed to kick off my next adventure of Queen Deeper Dives! I've been digging deep into every version of every album track. Brian's genius opener intrigues with intensity and intention that's both classical and rock, edgy and ethereal. With layers (and layers) of guitars, the hum of Queen II shifts into brightness in the 2026 remix. BONUS: the Sessions take reveals a simple but effective trick that blew my mind…

Two lifelong Queen fans. One song at a time. Stephen and Paul Nicholson — brothers and co-hosts of the acclaimed Trimming the Musical Fat music podcast — join Marv on Pods Like Us to talk about their brand new weekly podcast Sheer Pod Attack, where they're covering every single Queen track in chronological order in under 10 minutes per episode. From the Queen I debut album all the way through to Made in Heaven, no song gets skipped. In this conversation the trio dive deep into Queen fandom, the 2026 Queen II remix, Hot Space revisionism, favourite Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor solo records, podcast production tools, and the childhood memories that made Queen the greatest band in the world — at least to them. Whether you're a hardcore Queen obsessive, a casual fan rediscovering the catalogue, or a podcaster looking for format inspiration, this episode is packed with insight, nostalgia, and genuine passion for one of music's most genre-defying acts.

Jai, Matt, and Ian dive into Queen's early classic “Seven Seas of Rhye” ... twice! Ian takes on the Queen II version in all its bombastic glory, while Matt strips it back to the instrumental Queen debut version. We chat about the song's evolution, its place in Queen's early history, and the unmistakable flair Freddie brought even in the band's formative days. Episode 113 wherein Kev discovers that he has a pretty valuable 7 incher on his hands. ON his hands, not in his hands. Get yer minds out of the gutter. That's later..... Anyway, there's all the usual shenanigans from all the usual suspects and we just have to keep winning pucks in the corners and getting shots to the net and if we just execute the game plan and give our goalie a chance, I'm sure we'll sports better than the other team sportses and emerge victorious! It's been a long day, this is all I've got.If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it “There's no living in my life any more” or possibly “Queen forever more!”Today's episode looks at a Freddie's soaringly beautiful interlude on Side Black of Queen II, "Nevermore"NOTE: Skip forward to 21:48 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The song at the end of the episode is the lead track from Randy Woods Band's second album.
Aquí tenéis el listado de canciones: 20 - Queen "Father to son" (Queen II, 1972) 19 - Queen "Innuendo" (Innuendo, 1991) 18 - Queen "Fat bottomed girls" (Jazz, 1978) 17 - Queen "I want to break free" (The works, 1984) 16 - Queen "A kind of magic" (A kind of magic, 1986) 15 - Queen "Tie your mother down" (A day at the races, 1976) 14 - Queen "One vision" (A kind of magic, 1986) 13 - Queen "I want it all" (The miracle, 1989) 12 - Queen "You're my best friend" (A night at the opera, 1975) 11 - Queen "Hammer to fall" (The works, 1984) 10 - Queen "Don't stop me now" (Jazz, 1978) 09 - Queen "Was it all worth it?" (The miracle, 1989) 08 - Queen "Somebody to love" (A day at the races, 1976) 07 - Queen "We are the champions" (News of the World, 1977) 06 - Queen "Another one bites the durst" (The game, 1980) 05 - Queen "Under pressure" (Hot space, 1982) 04 - Queen "Crazy little thing called Love" (The game, 1980) 03 - Queen "Killer queen" (Sheer heart attack, 1974) 02 - Queen "We will rock you" (News of the World, 1977) 01 - Queen "Bohemian rhapsody" (A night at the opera, 1975)
Once upon a time, there was a guitarist named Mick Mars. He practiced every day. He practiced every night. He got so good that a famous musician named David invited him to be one of the spiders from Mars. After recording and touring for years with the Thin Ziggy Starman, he wanted to challenge himself more musically, so he joined the highly sophisticated intellectual rockers, Mötley Crüe, who didn't have a shit name or a shit singer and a shit drummer. Mick became the most succesful guitar player in the world. Then he died. The end. According to Kev. If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Forget regrets" or possibly, "Hey guys, check out this fill!"Today's episode looks at the only Roger composition featured on Queen II, an ode to a dysfunctional maternal relationship, "The Loser in the End"NOTE: Skip forward to 16:43 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end is "Charisma Free" taken from Randy Woods Band's debut record.
Send us a Text Message. Jethro Tull is one of the stranger turns taken by rock music over more than 50 years. Mick and Jeff look back at some of the band's best work, and, maybe, some of their strangest. The “Album You Must Hear Before You Die” is Queen II, a sensational album released the year before Queen took over the world! Both Mick & Jeff love it! Jeff takes a look at what AI is doing to music. We're not worried, because, as Joe Walsh says, AI can't even trash a hotel room! While he's at it, he then looks at who is “knocking on Heaven's door” this month. Yet another very full episode! Randy's having problems with his issues, whatever the hell that means! And he still won't quite raggin' on poor Kev about the Shepherd's Pie debacle. Bastard! We're goin' deep into fantasy this week and we've already had one duster from Randy for a proggier flight of fancy from Brian, way back in Episode two (oops, spoiler alert), but will he risk incurring Kev's wrath and dust this one too??? He is a man who, by his own admission, would kill for a Nobel Peace Prize... And to think, we knew him before he became notorious, and then curiously decorated! If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Two way mirror mountain" or possibly, "I wonder who played gong on this track..."Today's episode covers the monstrous opening to Side Black of Queen II, "Ogre Battle".NOTE: Skip forward to 31:08 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. "Hey dipshits, how come you spent so long talking about hockey, bowling, and Roger Waters instead of getting on with talking about Queen?" Good question, good question... Also - we need to petition cinemas to have intermissions. Don't know why I thought of that just then, but maybe it will become more clear in the episode. Randy tells us about his Martin D-28, Kev tells us about his bowling playoffs, and we listen to a little bit of Q+PR. Imagine that! It's all happening this week.If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Any night tonight" or possibly, "Trite 'n' shite!"Today's episode covers our first song from Side White of "Queen II" and closing song in Brian's suite, "Some Day One Day"NOTE: Skip forward to 39.07 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. Hey, does anyone read these episode descriptions? I could probably write anything here couldn't I? I could ask you to send me photos of your favourite letter box. Maybe I could see if someone would be willing to paint themselves orange, stand on the steps of Huddersfield Town Hall and repeatedly scream "Life goes on BRA!" for four hours, or until the local constabulary arrive to deal with them. Maybe I'll start a movement of some kind and I can relay secret messages to my followers here, like the spies used to do with the Times crossword. Things like, "The elucidated octopus knows no pity". You know, that kind of thing...If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "Bo Rhap before Bo Rhap" or possibly "Them dudes can play!"Today's song covers the monumental centre-piece from Side Black of "Queen II", all six and a half minutes of "The March of the Black Queen".The song included at the end of the episode is "Pharmacist on a Harley" from the latest Randy Woods Band album, "Soul Hammer" and you can find it here! https://youtu.be/WgARAxQqifwNOTE: If you want to skip ahead to Randy and Kev's manifestations and the wheel spin, that happens at 46:58 (yeh we know, it's a long one this week folks!)Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Twitter, Facebook, and BlueSky! We're back for Season 10. This week Matt finishes off his cover of Freddie Mercury's fantasy prog song "The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" off of Queen II, with a little help from Ian's high vocals. It's also a double bonus as Ian's gives you Procession to replace the usual intro. We discuss the Richard Dadd painitng, the performances, the live version? and much more, ...and of course we get to the scoring. Hey you lovely old lot. We're heading back to Queen II today and there's more Steven Seagull in this week's episode. Look, don't blame us, we just go where the social media comments take us! We discuss whether the French should be allowed to have passports, cookie monster metal, we're accused of being rude by a man name Ruud, which is a bit rich, and The Cardinal chows down into a hearty bowl of mushroom soup mid-recording! What on earth is going on???If Mr. Randy were to do the one job I give him every week and title this episode, he'd probably call it “The Magic is Gone” or maybe, “I don't like guitar music and I'm thinking of starting a career as a beat boxer”.Today's episode covers Track 2 from Queen 2; Father To Son. And, as a nice little bonus, we also listen to Procession! Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Twitter and Facebook! On this edition of the Richard Crouse Show we meet Emm Gryner. She is a Canadian musician and vocal coach. David Bowie named Emm as one of his two favourite Canadian acts. U2 frontman Bono named her song “Almighty Love” as one of six songs that he wished he had written. Gryner toured in David Bowie's band, singing and playing keyboards, and appears on the recordings Bowie at the Beeb and Glastonbury 2000. Emm helped make the first music video in outer space with Chris Hadfield and is also the author of a book called “The Healing Power of Singing: Raise Your Voice, Change Your Life: What Touring With David Bowie, Single Parenting And Ditching The Music Business Taught Me In 25 Easy Steps.” Her new album is “Business & Pleasure” is a celebration of the Detroit radio scene and the music that shaped her childhood. From Motown, jazz and pop, to Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac and the Doobies, Business & Pleasure is infused with the sunshine soul and stellar playing of the late 70s and early 80s. Then, Gord Sinclair stops by. Best known as the bass player and one of the songwriters in The Tragically Hip, he is now a “reluctant solo artist” with a new album called In Continental Drift, available now wherever you buy fine music. Finally, we go into the vault to revisit my interview with the late, great rock photographer Mick Rock. He is often referred to as ‘The Man Who Shot the Seventies', for his iconic images of Syd Barrett, David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Queen, The Ramones, Blondie, Rocky Horror Picture Show, etc. London born, he has resided in New York for over 35 years. He has shot over 100 album covers. Rock was instrumental in creating many key rock ‘n' roll images, such as album covers for Syd Barrett's Madcap Laughs, Lou Reed's Transformer and Coney Island Baby, Iggy and The Stooges' Raw Power, Queen's Queen II (recreated for their classic music video ‘Bohemian Rhapsody') and Sheer Heart Attack, The Ramones End of the Century and Joan Jett's I Love Rock ‘n' Roll, among many others. He was the chief photographer on the films The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Shortbus. He recently shot special stills for the new TV version of Rocky Horror, featuring the transgender actress Laverne Cox as Frank n Furter. He also produced and directed the seminal music videos for Bowie: ‘John, I'm Only Dancing', ‘Jean Genie', ‘Space Oddity', and ‘Life On Mars'.

In today's episode, homicidal painters, swanee whistles, and a thorough explanation of hockey from a bona fide Canadian. Also, a killer track from Side Black of Queen II. It will be the biggest event staged in Britain since World War II when Queen Elizabeth II's funeral begins in London tonight. The Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has already arrived in London and has met with King Charles III.
Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970. The band comprised Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals) and John Deacon (bass). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock. Before forming Queen, May and Taylor had played together in the band Smile. Mercury was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. He joined in 1970 and suggested the name "Queen". Deacon was recruited in February 1971, before the band released their eponymous debut album in 1973. Queen first charted in the UK with their second album, Queen II, in 1974. Sheer Heart Attack later that year and A Night at the Opera in 1975 brought them international success. The latter featured "Bohemian Rhapsody", which stayed at number one in the UK for nine weeks and helped popularise the music video format. The band's 1977 album News of the World contained "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions", which have become anthems at sporting events. By the early 1980s, Queen were one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world. "Another One Bites the Dust" from The Game (1980) became their best-selling single, while their 1981 compilation album Greatest Hits is the best-selling album in the UK and is certified nine times platinum in the US. Their performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert is ranked among the greatest in rock history by various publications. In August 1986, Mercury gave his last performance with Queen at Knebworth, England. In 1991, he died of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS. Deacon retired in 1997. Since 2004, May and Taylor have toured as "Queen +", with vocalists Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert.Queen have been a global presence in popular culture for more than four decades. Estimates of their record sales range from 170 million to 300 million, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists. In 1990, Queen received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, and with each member having composed hit singles all four were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003. In 2005 they received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors, and in 2018 they were presented the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

There's no hiding my love for this album, Queen's gorgeous and beautiful A Day at the Races. For the first time, the guys sound really comfortable and even more indulgent. We have the diversity of Sheer Heart Attack, the richness of Queen II, and the melodic and operatic tendencies of A Night at the Opera...all packed into the guys' fabulous fifth album. It's quite playful, but there are surprisingly darker moments, too. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tater-thoughts/message
The boys' sparkling closer on Queen II, and their first hit single, "Seven Seas of Rhye" is a short and sweet but impactful and effective rock number. It concludes one of my favorite song triads ever and makes me run faster. Freddie's brilliant lyrics here are some of my very favorites. The guys performed this on BBC's Top of The Pops in February '74, giving this track a boost and the band well-deserved attention. Find out what was so unique about that performance. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tater-thoughts/message

We kick off side two/the second side/the other side/the Black side of Queen II with Freddie's first composition on the album, "Ogre Battle". All fantastical, all mythology, a lot of storytelling and lots of key changes, this is Freddie fabulousness. A heavy theme of unified bass, guitar and drums take us into the thrashing fray. And it always went over really well live. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tater-thoughts/message
What reads as a harsh song title turns out to be a tender ode to moms everywhere. Roger Taylor's sole contribution to Queen II, "The Loser in the End", is a solid heavy glam rock number with fun licks and riffs from Brian and John, and some nicely layered and dynamic vocals from Roger. Not to mention Roger's rhythm and drumming here, which is very impressive. Find out what makes this song so unique in the entire history of Queen's written archives. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tater-thoughts/message
Sad, pleading, wanting and longing. "White Queen (As It Began)" is one of Queen's best ballads, and one of my favorite Brian May compositions. We're still in Moody May territory as we go through the White Side of Queen II. This is gorgeous and elaborate, with medieval tones, string-like guitars, and haunting backing vocals surrounding Freddie's tender performance. Find out why Brian's acoustic guitar solo has such a distinctive sound, and what made the live performances so special during the instrumental solos. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tater-thoughts/message
This lovely little guitar-laden number, "Procession", begins one of my favorite albums ever; the first Queen album I fell in love with. It's a little Baroque, a little Renaissance, a little ancient, very classical, lots of keys, lots of moodiness, and appropriately dramatic. We kick it off, before we take off...but of course, I have to talk about Queen II. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tater-thoughts/message
