Dr. Rajendra Gupta is a physics professor at the University of Ottawa who was in the headlines a few months ago for his assertion that the universe might be at least twice as old as we realize. He's back at the radical reshaping of physics with his latest paper, which proposes that we can do away with dark matter and dark energy. Currently, these invisible substances are thought to make up something like 70-90% of our universe, depending on who you ask. But they're invisible, undetectable, placeholders for some force or particle that can make the math work out. As an alternative, Gupta proposes modeling the universe with two ideas in mind. One, that the constants of nature are not, in fact, constant and two, that the red light shift seen in the cosmos that is considered to be a signature of expansion is actually the fingerprint of “tired light.” Together, these concepts allow him to recalculate the mechanics of the universe without relying on dark matter and dark energy, which is pretty cool. We talk about the impetus for this work, the meaning of tired light, why expansion isn't going away any time soon, and the future of physics. Tell us your thoughts in the comments!!! The massive drop in church attendance is a crisis facing churches across the Western World and there are external pressures and internal weaknesses that need to be addressed at every level of the church. We highlighted a few months ago the attendance drop in Sydney Anglican Evangelical Churches in the last ten years. Raj Gupta first called it a plateau problem. But the data released at last September's Synod shows it's now much worse. From a high in 2015, attendance in 2019 was down 7.5 percent. And in 2022, attendance was down a further ten percent.Even allowing for a covid factor even assuming some sort of bounce back these are figures that we should talk about.Andrew Heard, the senior pastor of EV Church on the Central Coast, has challenged Evangelical Anglican leaders in Sydney to look at their hearts, head and hands, saying there's a heart problem and a skill deficit.David Rietveld is senior pastor of Dapto Anglican Church to the South of Sydney, and the author of ‘Being Christian after Christendom' partially agrees with Andrew but gives more weight to the problems in the soil. A few weeks ago on The Pastor's Heart we talked with Zac Veron and Raj Gupta about issues confronting Sydney Anglicans. The National Church Life Survey shows a drop in newcomers from 9% in 2011 to 5.4% in 2021 - a more than ten year trend of fewer people joining church. Plus there's been a 7.5% drop in attendance between 2015 and 2019.But it's not just the Sydney Anglicans that need a wake up call. It's most of us in Australian Evangelicalism. And if you are a senior pastor watching from around the world - it's highly likely that there will be a massive overlap between your problems and our problems. Andrew Heard leads the large and influential EV church on the Central Coast of New South Wales. He's also the key person behind the influential Reach Australia movement. Now, where and how for Sydney Anglicans - with Raj Gupta and Zac VeronThe future of the Anglican Church in Sydney. We engage in a ‘Stockdale Paradox' discussion, confronting the brutal facts about attendance, finances and National Church Life Survey data about mission, newcomers and maturity. Plus we review the recent Sydney Anglican Synod debate where leader after leader poured out their heart. The gap is widening between the diocese's declining attendance and Sydney's growing population. While there are COVID factors, the National Church Life Survey trends are clearly observable and are worrying. There's a difference between having a heart for evangelism and knowing how to engage effectively. While gross giving has increased, real giving (adjusted for inflation) seems to be down. There's a clear difficulty with strategic planning and implementation. What to do about the accelerating trend of people moving to larger churches. We look at the hard facts and attempt to chart a way forward. In June 2022 the Government consulted on proposals to abolish hope and development value when assessing compensation for land compulsorily purchased for certain kinds of schemes. Nine months after it closed, a response has yet to be published, but many CPO professionals made the point at the time that the proposals would be unfair and that there was no evidence that the risk of paying hope value compensation was deterring promoters from bringing forward CPOs. On 13 March 2023, however, the Government tabled amendments to the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, which is currently at Committee Stage in the House of Lords. One such amendment would allow “a minister confirming a compulsory purchase order to direct, in certain cases involving affordable housing, health or education, that compensation should be assessed on the basis that no new planning permission would be granted for the land”. It is known from last June's consultation document that the Government view is that hope value can lead to “perverse outcomes” that “artificially inflate” compensation because the valuation assumes permission will be granted, even in cases where the likelihood of permission being granted may be relatively low. What though about the practical impacts of this change? Should the need for housing (and in particular affordable housing) trump the “equivalence” compensation principle? Will the risk of CPO on this basis spook the development sector such that the measures are in any event counter-productive? This episode is a recording of friend of the podcast Simon Ricketts' Planning Law Unplanned Clubhouse discussion on this subject that took place on 23 March 2022 during which Simon put these questions to Raj Gupta, Jonathan Stott, Greg Dickson, Rebecca Clutten, Venus Galarza and David Baker. It's a moment of honesty for Sydney Christians as we talk the ‘elephant in the room.' Despite rises in giving, clergy numbers and population the number of Christians in Sydney Anglican Churches is in plateau or decline. Raj Gupta is the senior minister of St Paul's Anglican Church, Carlingford, a member of the Anglican Growth Corporation. Raj asked questions at the latest Synod about attendance numbers, the pipeline into ministry and about Rectors leaving mission critical senior leadership roles in their mid fifties. See links here (http://www.thepastorsheart.net/podcast/the-plateau-problemA decade ago the Sydney Anglican Church endorsed a Mission 2020 strategic plan for mission. For the first time there were specific, measurable and time based goals set. These will be able to be assessed rigorously in the next few weeks when the Australian National Church Life Survey denominational results are made public. Raj is concerned that the trend in regards to newcomers has not been strong. See the graph below. He notes that the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expect different results, and so wants a fresh broad conversation among senior leaders about what could be changed. What hard conversation is needed in your ministry network? http://www.thepastorsheart.net/podcast/the-plateau-problem***As The Pastor's Heart grows in audience our opportunities and responsibility grow as well. How to navigate change management in church? Change within the church is ongoing and unavoidable. This is to strengthen the church and continually make it a better and more spiritually helpful place for its members to worship God and grow in their faith. However, war stories of ‘church change resistance,' where well meaning ministers have tried to pursue these changes have sadly led to the disruption of relationships. Speaking on the topic of change and its aftermath is Raj Gupta. He is the senior minister of St Paul's in Carlingford in Sydney and a director with Moore College's Center for Ministry Development and has insights for churches based on John Kotter's Change Management Framework. Are you tired? Still worn out? Feeling like a lack of energy? During Cocoa Pods dual portion interview with Dr. Raj Gupta; after he encourages young brilliant minds to follow his foot steps to change lives in the specialty of oncology, he reveals the underlying issues constant tiredness as it relates to the blood and gives tips on how health care professionals can treat the symptoms of fatigue and weariness as well as how everyday people can address their own experiences of lethargy. More specifically Dr. Gupta discuss the function of the platelets and the purpose of obstetricians watchful eye on the platelet level when caring for a pregnant woman. The hematologist warns about blood thinners during pregnancy and the mechanisms that would be damaging to the unborn child. He does this to transition the conversation into informing the audience about the dangers of blood clots. Dr. Sogade then inquires about the sickle cell disease in pregnancy and investigates why this adaptive mutation to combat malaria can further heighten the risks for anemia in pregnancy which would limit oxygen for the unborn baby. This episode of the podcast becomes most impactful to all listeners when Dr. Raj Gupta talks about the most common conditions of cancer that affect young women and pregnant women because with this knowledge listeners can be proactive to subject themselves to regular and recurrent screenings to catch signs and signals of cancer as early as possible. #PlateletsInPregnancy #Preeclampsia #ITP #TTP #Blood #BloodThinner #DVT #PE #SickleCell #Anemia #Cancer #DelayedDiagnosis #IronSupplement #Fe #FolicAcid #GoodNews
Dr Gupta For the season two premiere, Dr. Bola Sogade invites Dr. Raj Gupta, a Hematologist, to the Birth Center for Natural Deliveries Foundation's very own Cocoa Pods Podcast to discuss issues with blood in pregnant women and how it could affect their lifestyle, their gestation, and their newborns. They expose how anemia arises and the molecular make up of hemoglobin. It was good to inform the audience that menstrual blood loss is most common reason for being anemic. Coming into pregnancy with anemia could produce severe iron deficiency anemia in pregnancy. In addition, when pregnant women have anemia conditions like preeclampsia, need of a blood transfusion, ICU admission during labor, and hysterectomy all have greater potential to occur. Furthermore, these blood issues increased the risk of preterm delivery (when a baby comes before 37 completed weeks of pregnancy), fetal distress, low birth weight, and lower cognitive function of the newborn do to shorten time to develop. That is why obstetricians get a baseline complete blood count and work to address any insufficiencies. Our guest gives a extended list of fruits, vegetables, and supplements that are available at your local food market that are high in iron and cofactors to promote the build up of hemoglobin and combat the deficiencies. While on the topic of eating the two respective specialists bring up a condition enacted by low iron called pica, which is characterized by the desire or craving to eat non nutritional things that humans do not normally eat. It is revealed where the body stores iron and reemphasizes the importance of coming into pregnancy as your healthiest self. After all the life of the flesh is in the blood. #Tired #Weak #Lethargic #Hematologist #Hemoglobin #Anemia #Iron #Fe #Blood #Pregnancy #Sicklecelldisease #sicklecelltrait #PICA
"You have to look at the broader macroenvironment, and buy the right asset class, because different asset classes perform differently at different parts of the cycle. There's opportunity at every part of the cycle; but it's really important to be mindful of where we are and what the risks are, because every part of the cycle has it's own risks, and has it's own opportunities. As a smart investor, you want to take advantage of those opportunities, based on where we are in the cycle, but also be very mindful of the risks and mitigate those risks to the largest extent possible." Raj Gupta is here this week to share some perceptive insights from his former time as a Navy JAG Officer, and now, onto being a full-time real estate investor and syndicator, while still serving in the reserves! Listen along to learn how Raj made the transition into real estate investing, as well as his strategic advice on successfully investing based upon economic cyclicality. This episode covers several fundamental factors that are indicators of where we are in the market cycle, including macroeconomic trends, employment rates, interest rates, and more. By joining us you will learn how to recognize where we are in the current market cycle, what opportunities this creates, and most of all, how to capitalize on them now. Key Takeaway: Smart investors capitalize on opportunity. By being mindful of the market cycle, you can strategically move into the "right place at the right time" to further scale out a profitable portfolio, and also use these insights to avoid costly mistakes. Target Market Insights: Multifamily Real Estate Marketing Tips
With uncertainty in the market, investors are looking for investment opportunities that mitigate risk. Multifamily has performed well during the pandemic, proving to be resilient during rough times. However, many apartment investors are wondering how to adjust their strategies to protect themselves in case of a further downturn. To better understand how investors are adjusting strategies, we spoke with Raj Gupta who is a multifamily syndicator with holdings in Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston. Raj Gupta is the co-founder of Impact Prosperity. He began investing in real estate in 2008 and owns over 4,000 units in his portfolio. Raj has served in the Navy, worked as an attorney, and spent time as an investment advisor. Raj believes in balancing risk and reward, focusing on getting the highest reward with the least amount of risk. Because of this, Raj says now is a time to focus on recession-resilient investments. Heroes are easy to find in Malua Bay. Raj Gupta is a lifesaver. Too humble to talk about his own fire losses, he would rather talk about the patients who come to his Malua Bay pharmacy. He opened it in the wake of the fires and dispensed medicine in the dark for free. Ken Sloan is the man you would want to see if a devastating fire had just ripped through. He runs the South Coast's best opp shop near Malua Bay and on New Year's Eve morning he was following firetrucks into razed farms to give shattered survivors bottles of water. There are so many stories of the whole church's ministry going pear shaped by poor staffing decisions, unrealistic expectations and poor leadership. There's probably more anguish from senior and assistant ministers in this area than basically any other. Mercy Health serves communities in Ohio and Kentucky, two of the top five states for overdose rates in the nation. And last year was the worst on record for opioid overdose deaths in Hamilton County, where Mercy Health is headquartered. But the tide may be turning. When it became clear that treating, stabilizing and releasing overdose victims who came to their ED wasn’t working, Mercy Health decided to make some wholesale changes to their approach to addressing addiction as a healthcare provider and they’re beginning to see the payoff. In this podcast, Greg talks with leaders from Mercy Health to learn about their new approach to helping those struggling with substance use disorder through a program they rolled out system-wide by the name of the Mercy Health Addiction Treatment Collaborative. Joining Greg on this podcast are Dr. Navdeep Kang, Mercy Health Director of Operations for Behavioral Health Services in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Larry Graham, President of Behavioral Health at Mercy Health and the co-founder and CEO of Cincinnati-based FindLocalTreatment.com, Raj Gupta. Tune in to learn how the Mercy Health Addiction Treatment Collaborative program provides treatment-on-demand through a coordinated network of providers.
