Professor Mark Sedgwick joins me for a profound exploration of Traditionalism and its many facets. We dive into the primordial and perennial traditions, unpack why humanity isn't headed for a "Star Trek" future, and discuss key concepts like Kali Yuga, Rene Guenon's influence, and the ongoing meaning crisis. Our conversation touches on Sufism, the sacred underpinnings of modernity, and the often-overlooked roles of racism, caste, and materialism. We also explore New Age beliefs, the pitfalls of ideological extremes, gender dynamics, and the contrast between exoteric and esoteric knowledge. An in-depth, illuminating conversation that challenges modern assumptions. "Cenab-ı Hak, kâinatın dış yüzünü eserlerinin nurlarıyla, sırlarını ise sıfatlarının nurlarıyla aydınlattı. Zahirin aydınlığı kaybolursa da kalplerin ve sırların nurları sönmez. Bu yüzden denildi ki: Gündüzün güneşi akşam olunca batar, kalplerin güneşi ise asla batmaz." A long time ago Rene Guenon made a prediction. He conjectured something along the lines of the return of traditional understanding of the man and world, albeit with inverted quality - a sort of advent of anti-man and anti-world. In this podcast we point out a peculiar tendency inside the "transgender population" to speak of themselves as disembodied 'souls', thus putting the soul back in the public discourse, form whence it was banished. How this comes to pass, why is it an inversion of the original notion of the soul and what might be possible trends are some of the questioned answered.

Ken explores the complex topic of Traditionalism, it's esoteric roots, and why it's having such an impact on Right-Wing politics. Our Illuminator this week is the excellent Professor Mark Sedgwick, author of ‘Traditionalism: The Radical Project for Restoring Sacred Order'. This week: Rene Guenon despises modernity, Julius Evola and the Nazis, Steve Bannon and Alexander Dugin's Traditionalist influence, and much more. Sedgwick is an academic and historian. Dr. Sedgwick is currently an associate professor of Arab history, culture and society in the Department of the Study of Religion, and program manager for Arab and Islamic Studies, at the University of Aarhus in Denmark. He previously worked at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. Mark Sedgwick is the author of the controversial book Against the Modern World: Traditionalism and the Secret Intellectual History of the Twentieth Century, published by Oxford University Press in 2004. The book purports to be a survey of “traditionalism,” with particular emphasis on the role René Guénon played in this school of thought. A number of careful reviewers, however, have found that Against the Modern World contains serious errors and faults in both premises and facts. Dr. Mark Sedgwick maintains an active presence on the internet, including his blog, some of which strikes various readers as rather biased and self-promotional while other readers perceive his efforts as the result of academic inquisitiveness. It is undeniable that he is a source of information about Tradition and Perennialism. However, the controversial nature of Mark Sedgwick's work on Traditionalism and Perennialism causes many readers to ask whether his influence is disproportionate to his credentials and possibly even to his motives. Readers must judge for themselves whether Sedgwick is a dispassionate student of Traditionalism or someone with an internet connection and a “personal and undisclosed bias against Traditionalism.” In the interest of a more balanced and well-researched view of Traditionalism, we present on this website three rather detailed and, we hope, incisive reviews of Mark Sedgwick's Against the Modern World: Traditionalism and the Secret Intellectual History of the Twentieth Century.

On this edition of Parallax Views, a previously unreleased conversation from April 2022 with Kali Tribune's Branko Malic, who specializes in writing about metaphysics from a Catholic and traditionalist bent, about the Russian philosopher that's been called "Putin's Rasputin", Alexander Dugin. Aleksandr Dugin has been a figure that's gotten media coverage ever since the election of Donald Trump. He's one of the most ardent supporters of Putin's invasion of Ukraine. But who is Alexander Dugin? What are his beliefs? Is he a Gnostic? A follower of the Traditionalist School of metaphysics in the vein of Rene Guenon or Julius Evola? An occultist who practices a chaos magick? A mere Russian imperialist who promotes his worldview through what he calls the "Fourth Political Theory" and Eurasianism? A madman? A Satanist? A Russian Orthodox Catholic? Or simply a man who wants to "immanentize the eschaton" (aka the apocalypse)? Branko and I will tackle all of this and much more in the conversation.

On this edition of Parallax Views, independent scholar Wahid Azal joins Parallax Views to discuss the ideology of Russia's Aleksandr Dugin, which he describes as steeped in imperialism and occultism. Dugin has become known in the West as "Putin's Brain", but lost his academic job at Moscow State University in 2014 after essentially calling for genocide against Ukrainians. He is known for advocating what he calls the "Fourth Political Theory" and for writing the book The Foundations of Geopolitics, which had influence in the Russian military. Wahid makes the case that while Dugin is marginal in Russia and Ukraine, his ideology has been boosted throughout Europe through oligarch funding and in the U.S. thanks to a number of factors including Dugin's Rasputin-esque image being perfectly fitted for sensational, attention-grabbing headlines and features. In this conversation we discuss the underpinnings of Dugin's thought including the idea of Atlantacism, the role of the apocalypse in Dugin's worldview, the influence of Heidegger on Dugin, Dugin's connection to Traditionalism and how the influence of Heidegger on him is not in line with Traditionalism (we also discuss what Tradtionalism is from Rene Guenon to Julius Evola and how Dugin's thinking could be described as Counter-Traditionalism), Dugin's current interest in the Russian Orthodox Church and his previous interest in chaos magick, the neo-nazi Satanist group The Order of Nine Angles, the death of Azal's wife and how he believes Duginists may have been involved in it, explaining the meaning of Dugin's quote "We will cure you with poison" and its connection to alchemy, and much, much more.

In this episode Dimes and Judas talk about the book Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times by Rene Guenon and an overview of how our perception of time, the unknown, and art has dramatically shifted in the modern. Also discussed is the Zoltanus breakdown and opsec vs. internet trolling, the socio-sexual heirarchy being at least half ridiculous, and Bruce Springsteen and Bracak Obama's preposterous hyperreal podcast. By the way there's no more music in the background, enough of that.

What was that parallel Bible you said you liked so much? Is there any reason to believe that the Q character from Star Trek was named after the Q source from Bible scholarship? How widespread is the belief that OT theophanies were appearances of the pre-incarnate Christ? What's wrong with Joseph Atwill's arguments? What book sets forth the fundamental historical-critical axiom that in any choice between a more or less spectacular version of the same event, the less spectacular is preferred since if the more colorful were first available we cannot account for the fabrication of the more mundane? When did modern scholars first conclude that the Pauline letters were written before the Gospels? Is God's original name “Jealous”? In a recent episode, a fellow listener referred to Pilate's question "What is truth?" as "a glib dismissal of Jesus". Personally, I can't see as mere glibness; to me, the entire conversation is about collision of values. Please comment on the Kalam argument as put forth by William Lane Craig: I wonder what your opinion might be of Rene Guenon, Ananda Coomaraswamy, and Frithjof Schuon - the trinity of perennialists? Would the Stendhal syndrome explain early Christian spiritual experiences? Is there good reason to consider 1 Peter a forgery?

Metaphysics is due to be resurrected! Or zombified? In this podcast we compare the Traditional understanding of Being with its inverted counterpart, we might, for the lack of the better term, call infraphysics, exemplified by its contemporary philosophical proponents. We proceed from somewhat simple framing of Traditional understanding of knowledge as a three phase process of Being-Logos/Intentio-name to its exemplary inversion in materialism and Kant's transcendental philosophy, ending up with fruits of modern inversion of metaphysics in contemporary "object oriented ontology". We touch upon Rene Guenon's analysis of the main discrepancy of materialism and how this analysis is being reiterated by some contemporary thinkers bound to reach beyond and below the materialism; we expound on transformation of thinking into computation and the centrality of self referential systems for subphysics; also we explain why we will soon see the drive to liberate inanimate things and individual bodily organs from human tyranny and throw in some insights on various contemporary issues along the way.

As we received quite a lot of question and none of them an easy one, we'll need more than one podcast to provide answers. In this one, we pick two easiest ones: what is Ego and what was Rene Guenon's charge against psychoanalysis. These two subjects are not unrelated and can be treated quite similarly from the metaphysical perspective which encompasses what is usually understood as purely psychological set of problems. We explain how Ego can be a metaphysical principle, why it is in fact the most precise expression of what is meant by elementary material particle, how it relates to time and why it is by its very nature destructive towards the past. Finally, we give some everyday examples of Ego-principle working in our day and age, especially as a conditio sine qua non of popular culture and entertainment. As for Guenon's verdict on psychoanalysis, we explain his method and approach, as well as why he did consider it to be a crypto-diabolic practice.

Check out our high school offerings at www.tikvahfund.org/hs In our cultural moment, society’s disregard of qualitative reasoning in favor of quantitative analysis–what spiritual master Rene Guenon dubbed “The Reign of Quantity”–has left a gaping hole in issues relating to morality, spirituality, and meaning. In this episode, Dr. Snell discusses questions such as: What is reason in the 21st century? Do the worlds of philosophical reasoning and empirical analysis speak different languages? Can these languages be meaningfully brought into conversation with one another? Where do they exhibit similarities and how do they differ? RJ Snell directs the Center on Ethics and the University at the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, NJ, and is senior fellow at the Agora Institute for Civic Virtue and the Common Good. Aura, Yamnaya Mindset, and special guest Jan de Maansnijder discuss Perennialism, esoteric traditionalism, Rene Guenon, and related topics.
For this episode, I speak with Gary Lachman, a prolific author on occult topics and an original member of the band Blondie, about his book, Dark Star Rising, which looks at the occult aspects of Donald Trump's rise (the Kek/Pepe phenomenon) as well as the connection between the resurgent Far Right and esotericism, including the popularity of "Traditionalists" like Rene Guenon and Julius Evola.

This is a conversation with my friend Azhar Usman, a man I call the most serious man in comedy. Azhar asked me to watch Ramy Youssef’s show ‘Ramy’ on Hulu, and when I begrudgingly did, I was floored. This happened again with Aziz Ansari’s comedy special ‘Aziz Ansari Right Now’ on Netflix. As we began to unpack the significance of these two shows, we found ourselves wrestling with modern dichotomies: Good Muslim/Bad Muslim; Artists/Awliya’; God’s Estate/Our States. In this hour and a half, I hope you feel the love I have for this brother, and just how his sobering words help put into perspective the beautiful and flawed world which ultimately, points us back to God. This week’s Submitter Circle Podcast, the podcast for patrons of I. A. Julius Evola's take on Buddhism is refreshingly hardcore, highly idiosyncratic, and also flawed. In Part One of our breakdown of The Doctrine of Awakening, we offer an overview of Evola, the man, and his relationship to Traditionalist thinkers like Rene Guenon. We break down where Evola is most interesting on Buddhism, and where he may be inaccurate or, at least, idiosyncratic. Commentary ranges over transhumanism, "superfascism", the leftist impulse, the devolution of money from gold to lists, and the heroic, martial achievement that is overcoming delusion. List of authors mentioned: René Guénon, Ananda Coomaraswamy, Frihtjof Schuon, Oswald Spengler, Thomas Carlyle, Carl Schmitt, Edward Gibbon, René Girard Doctrine of Awakening (paperback) https://www.amazon.ca/Doctrine-Awakening-Attainment-Self-Mastery-According/dp/0892815531 … Doctrine of Awakening (PDF): http://www.juliusevola.com/julius_evola/texts/The_Doctrine_of_Awakening.rtf … Julius Evola (website): http://www.juliusevola.com/ Jonathan Bowden's talk on Julius Evola https://archive.org/details/JonathanBowdenJuliusEvolaTheWorldsMostRightWingThinker/Julius+Evola+-+The+World's+Most+Right-Wing+Thinker+(1_7).mp4 … Perennial Philosophy blog …https://perennialphilosophyreadings.wordpress.com/ Rick Roderick lecture on Herbert Marcuse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNAKr1TQ0xc … The Mystery of the Grail (pdf) http://www.cakravartin.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/Julius-Evola-The-Mystery-of-the-Grail.pdf … The Reign of Quantity (full text): https://archive.org/stream/reneguenon/1945%20-%20The%20Reign%20of%20Quantity%20%26%20the%20Signs%20of%20the%20Times_djvu.txt … Guenon on Money https://medium.com/the-sings-of-the-times/the-degeneration-of-coinage-d9b9a49ed874 … Revolt Against the Modern World (pdf) http://www.cakravartin.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/Julius-Evola-Revolt-Against-the-Modern-World.pdf … Ride the Tiger (pdf) http://www.cakravartin.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/Julius-Evola-Ride-the-Tiger-Survival-Manual-for-the-Aristocrats-of-the-Soul.pdf … Gotra https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotra Uttaratantra Śāstra (Ratnagotravibhāga): https://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Uttaratantra_Shastra …

Christian Giudice, a scholar of modern occultism and Traditionalism, joins us in podcast episode 185 to discuss his dissertation entitled Occultism and Traditionalism: Arturo Reghini and the Antimodern Reaction in Early Twentieth Century Italy.Christian Giudice is a PhD scholar at the University of Gothenburg. His thesis analyses the interaction between Modernity and its impact on the Occult milieu of early twentieth-century Italy, focusing on Arturo Reghini (1878-1946) as a case study. Reghini was actively involved in most of the occult manifestations on the Italian peninsula during his lifetime. Thus he represents a fundamental figure if we want to better understand the convoluted period leading up to the Great War and the rise of Benito Mussolini.Giudice obtained an BA Honours Degree in Literae Humniores (Classics) from St. Hugh’s College, Oxford (2001) and more recently an MA with distinction in Western Esotericism, with a thesis focusing on Kenneth Grant and post-Crowleyan magic (2011). In 2012 he was elected Student Representative for ESSWE (European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism) for the year 2013. His other research interests include Traditionalism in a wider perspective (Guenon, Schuon, Evola, Coomaraswamy), Thelema and its developments after the death of Aleister Crowley (1875-1947), fin de siecle Occultism in England, France and Italy, Occultism and the visual arts. For a list of publications see: http://gu-se.academia.edu/ChristianGiudiceArturo Reghini was born in Florence on 12 November 1878. Since a very young age his interest in the occult was noticeable and in 1898 he was among the founding members of the Theosophical lodge in Rome. Having obtained a degree in Mathematics at Pisa University, Reghini frequented the cultural milieu of the Florentine Scapigliatura, lecturing, frequenting literary cafes and writing on seminal journals such as La Voce and the futurist Lacerba. In 1910 he claimed to have been initiated to an ancient Pythagorean initiatory school by Amedeo Armentano. After WWI, in which Reghini voluntarily enlisted, along with many other traditionalist thinkers gravitating around him, in the 1920s, Reghini founded journals which allowed him to express his views on occult, political and literary topics, being the editor in chief of Atanor, Ignis and Ur.These journals were fundamental in circulating ideas which would influence many thinkers who are nowadays better known than Reghini himself: among the authors collaborating with Reghini we thus find Rene Guenon (1886-1951), Julius Evola and Aniceto Del Massa (1898-1975).Reghini’s involvement with Freemasonry was constant between 1902 and 1925, the year in which masonic organizations were banned in Italy. It is within the folds of fringe masonry that Reghini found fertile ground for his ideas concerning a reform of modern Freemasonry, which invoked a return to its spiritual origins, considered to be Mediterranean by the Florentine thinker. Reghini’s involvement with Eduardo Frosini (1879 – ?) is well documented in this regard. The Lateran Accords of 1929 between the Fascist regime and Pope Pius XI put an end to Reghini’s, and other traditional thinkers, to influence the newly-born political cabinet. Reghini then seemed to become isolated from the activities of the Roman cultural milieu, moving to Budrio to teach mathematics in a private school and to pursue his studies on Pythagoric numbers, for which he received recognition from the prestigious Accademia dei Lincei in 1931. He died in 1946, leaving a legacy, which only in recent years has been picked up by Italian scholars. In the members’ only site at https://chamberofreflection.com, Christian Giudice, Rudolf, and I continue the interview, focusing on Italian occultists infiltration of Masonic lodges in order to spread their ideology.
