A DAY is coming when fallen angels and evil rulers throughout the centuries will regret their decisions to rebel against God. The chapters we read from the book of 1 Enoch prophesy a time when kings and the mighty plead for a respite from their torment so they might come before the throne and worship God. Sadly, their opportunity to repent has passed. Likewise, punishment for the fallen Watchers has been decreed and is being carried out with no hope of reprieve—at least not until the abyss opens up in Revelation 9 and they're given five months to torment those without the seal of God on their foreheads. These chapters come from the section of 1 Enoch called the Book of Parables. As we've discussed over previous months, chapters 37 to 71 of 1 Enoch was completed just about the time Jesus was born. It's important because it tells of a messianic character called the Son of Man who would execute these judgments. It's the first mention of the Son of Man in any Jewish writing—and 30 years later, Jesus applied that title to himself. We also read a couple chapters dealing with Noah. We point out a couple verses that disqualify 1 Enoch as scripture—for example, Noah apparently praying to his great-grandfather Enoch. EVERY TIME someone says, "The science is settled," take it with a grain of salt. A new report shows that the universe is expanding faster than current models predict. What does that mean? It's possible that current models of the universe are flawed, which means scientists may have to rewrite the rules by which they think the universe operates. "He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision" (Psalm 2:4, ESV). We recognize the verse is not directed at human scientists, but it does seem appropriate. This story led to a deep discussion of the nature of time, eternity, and why we humans are not created to live forever in our current bodies. We also discuss the rise in technocratic bureaucracy, as evidenced by the spread of Flock AI-powered surveillance cameras in American cities and the proposal by the World Health Organization for a $30 billion budget to prevent future pandemics. (Bear in mind the total WHO budget last year was just over $3 billion.) That led to a brief discussion of the news this week that the US federal deficit officially hit $40 trillion. That's about a third of the actual debt when you include unfunded liabilities like Social Security and Medicare.  Also, two former congressman wrote a piece for the Wall Street Journal recently debunking the official narrative that the 2008 subprime mortgage collapse was the result of greedy lenders and investors. It was, in fact, the result of government policies that led to mortgages being written for unqualified borrowers in the pursuit of government social engineering policies. But rather than putting blame on government, the official story blamed Wall Street to justify even more government control over the free market. Finally, we discussed the tragic mudslide and flash flood in Nepal and Tibet this week. That brought to mind something we discussed 20 years ago about the potential of a catastrophic mega-tsunami caused by the collapse of the La Palma volcano in the Canary Islands. It's Throwback Thursday. This week, it's a timely discussion given this week's devastating and deadly earthquake-induced landslide and flash flood on the border between Nepal and Tibet. Originally released May 18, 2008 MORE than 50,000 people are estimated to have died in the May 12 earthquake in China, many of whom still lie beneath rubble scattered across an area the size of Belgium. Elsewhere, the city of Reno, Nevada looks nervously to the northwest, where thousands of minor earthquakes have rattled the area since February 28. Scientists are puzzled by this cluster because they don't fit any known pattern. And here in the Midwestern U.S., we were startled by a M5.2 earthquake centered in southeast Illinois on April 18, the second strongest earthquake recorded in the state since the arrival of white settlers in the early 19th century. Lucifer is not Satan. In this week study, we dig into the Hebrew name translated Lucifer in the king James Bible, Helel Ben Shachar. Scholar William Gallagher showed in a peer reviewed paper more than 30 years ago that Helel was the West Semitic (i.e., Hebrew) transliteration of the Akkadian deity Ellil. This entity was known by many names in the ancient Near East, including Dagon, Assur, El, and Milcom (and thus Molech). All of these entities were connected to the underworld whereas Satan is nowhere in the Bible linked to Sheol, Hades, Gehenna, or the abyss. The other clue pointing to Ellil et. al is the fact that this polemic is directed at the king of Babylon. In Hebrew, that's melek bab el, which literally means "King of Babel" or "king of the god-gate." We realize this is a unique take on a famous and well studied chapter of the Bible. But it's consistent with other scriptures, and it's a good reminder to ask ourselves whether our interpretation of scripture is based on the Bible itself or human traditions. MUSLIMS ARE planning enclaves that could put self-contained religious communities near Dallas and Houston. Meanwhile, amplifiers broadcast the call to prayer in American cities like Minneapolis, Dearborn and Hamtramck, Michigan, and Paterson, New Jersey. Imams are growing increasingly bold in their statements that their goal is to turn America into a Muslim nation. What most Americans don't realize is that there is no separation of church and state in Islam. The church IS the state, for all intents and purposes. But more than that, this is a spiritual war that the god of Muhammad—who is not to be confused with the triune God of the Bible—intends to win. That fact is also behind a statement issued by the foreign ministers of Turkey, the UAE, Indonesia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. In a joint statement, the ministers objected to Israel's plan to build 3,400 new dwellings in an area east of Jerusalem called E1. They complain that this would separate Arab neighborhoods in East Jerusalem from the rest of the so-called West Bank, blocking the creation of a future Palestinian state with its capital at Jerusalem. From the Israeli standpoint, that is rather the point. After the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, Israel will not accept an independent Palestinian state on its borders. Further eroding the situation in the Middle East, Turkey has issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Turks are seeking an Interpol red notice for the arrest of Netanyahu as part of a criminal case against him for Israel's interception of an aid flotilla sailing for Gaza back in May. The charges include genocide, crimes against humanity and torture. Well, good luck with that. We also discussed a plan to build data centers around the ring of fire, the volcanically active area around the Pacific Ocean, using geothermal energy to power the centers. Tapping into volcanoes to generate electricity. What can possibly go wrong? Also: Social media is causing an epidemic of mental and spiritual illness, as evidenced by the crowd of women who gathered outside the courthouse in Plymouth, Massachusetts Thursday in support of Lindsay Clancy, who has admitted to killing her three children. Granted, postpartum depression is a real thing. But that doesn't mean Clancy shouldn't be held accountable for what she did. GIANTS AND WATCHERS will execute God's judgment on the prophesied Day of the Lord. Isaiah 13 is, on the surface, a prophecy of judgment on Babylon. But there are clues in this chapter that there's more to this prophecy than meets the eye. First, the Hebrew verb translated “consecrated” (as in “consecrated ones,” Isaiah 13:3) is based on the same root behind the words “holy one/s” in Daniel 4:13 and 17, used in parallel with “Watcher/s” in those verses. Given that the Septuagint translates Hebrew gibborim (“mighty men”) as “giants,” it's possible that the “consecrated ones” of Isaiah 13:3 are Watchers—a powerful class of angel often tasked with carrying out God's will (as in Daniel 4). As a whole, Isaiah 13 is an “already but not yet” prophecy of the destruction of Babylon. The “already” took place roughly 150 years after Isaiah wrote this prophecy when Cyrus the great captured the city the night of Belshazzar's drunken feast. The future fulfillment comes on the Day of the Lord, which we believe takes place at the end of the seven year Great Tribulation. In addition, there are hints of the supernatural fulfillment of the “not yet” part of the prophecy. Isaiah 13:20–22 foretells a day when Babylon is utterly destroyed, becoming a haunt of supernatural creatures. That's not apparent in most English translations, but digging into the Hebrew and Greek reveals more of Isaiah's original vision: Babylon inhabited forever by demons, sirens, satyrs, and dragons. A MIDDLE EASTERN nation reportedly advised another to seek peace with Israel—not as an end to war, but in preparation for it.  The report by Israel's public radio, KAN News, claims the unnamed nation suggested its counterpart reach an agreement with Israel with the intention of violating it later while preparing for a wider military conflict. Neither nation was identified in the report, which raises many questions. Is it Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, or another traditional enemy of Israel? Could this be "strong covenant with many" prophesied in the book of Daniel? We also discuss a chilling story from Canada about an elderly woman who was put to death under that nation's Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID) policy, despite the family's insistence that she was not mentally capable of making such a decision and the lack of evidence that she had given approval. After 200 years of idolatry, God finally allowed the northern kingdom of Israel to be destroyed and the people carried off by Assyria. Meanwhile, the southern kingdom of Judah was being ruled the young, foolish, idolatrous King Ahaz. After being defeated in battle by the Aramean Kingdom of Damascus, Ahaz decided to worship the gods of Syria rather than turning to God for help. He also sacrificed his son to Molech in the Valley of Hinnom southwest of Jerusalem. Then he turned to the Assyrians for help against Israel, Syria, and Edom, cutting up fixtures in the Temple to send to Assyria as tribute. Needless to say, God was not pleased. Apparently, neither were the people of Judah. Ahaz was buried in the City of David rather than in the tombs of the kings of his forefathers. THE WORST outbreak of Ebola in history is underway in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Many will respond to that news with skepticism given the way we were propagandized during the COVID outbreak five years ago. But facts are facts: Nearly 1600 people have died thus far in the outbreak and it's spreading much faster than the 2014 outbreak in West Africa. The infection fatality rate is upwards of 40%. By comparison, COVID only had an IFR of about 0.2%. In addition, this particular strain of Ebola has an incubation period of up to three weeks. That means somebody who appears to be well could conceivably travel on an international flight and bring the virus to another continent. So, fear mongering in this case is probably justified. Speaking of fear, a robotics company called Satyress has announced a new robot that looks like a giant metallic praying mantis with the head of a goat. It is ostensibly intended for jobs too dangerous for humans, like search and rescue missions after a natural disaster. However, it looks like Baphomet with an extra set of legs. That begs the question: What in the world were the designers thinking? We also discuss the invasion of the Spanish enclave of Ceuta by 60,000 military age men from Morocco. This is a very bad look for the pro-immigration leaders of the European Union and progressive Democrats here in the United States. After several chapters of prophecies of destruction at the hands of the Assyrians, Micah concludes his book with a promise of restoration for the people of Israel. THE WAR between the deep state and President Trump escalated this week when the president declassified documents revealing treasonous acts by elements within the CIA and FBI leading up to the 2020 election.  This is a reminder that presidents don't have as much control over the United States government as we (or they) think. In addition, a story that's set to break next week at the Intelligence Summit in Tampa reveals that Saddam had an active nuke program in 2002 and 2003. During the last six months of 2002, Saddam apparently built four very expensive nuclear storage and production facilities underneath the Euphrates River. Let's see how this is played in the media. The Bible foretells a mysterious character called “the Assyrian” who seems to have a role in the end times war against Israel. Who is he?  What's odd is the Hebrew text of Micah 5:5–6 (and Isaiah 14:25, 31:8, and 52:4) lacks the definite article “the.” In other words, there is no “the Assyrian” in the Old Testament.  The Hebrew word Assur can referred to Assyria, its capital city, or its chief deity, who was the equivalent of the Sumerian/Babylonian god Enlil (called Ellil in Akkad), El of Canaan, Dagon of the Philistines, and Milcom of Ammon—and thus Molech, the netherworld god who demanded the sacrifice of children from his followers.  We believe the passages in Micah are an “already but not yet” prophecy, referring to the imminent conquest of the northern kingdom of Israel by Assyria, which occurred during Micah's lifetime in 722 BC, and a future return of Assur in the end times as the Destroyer, Abaddon/Apollyon, who is released from the abyss for five months to torment those without the seal of God on their foreheads.  Sharon's niece, Sarah Sachleben, has been battling stage 4 bowel cancer and the medical bills are piling up. NEW YORK CITY Mayor Zohran Mamdani is the smiling face of communism. But it's a mask.  Most American political commentators focus on his economic policies, but it's his religion that's the real threat. While young voters, who have legitimate economic grievances, are mesmerized by his personal charm and the promise of free health care, education, and government services, Muslim voters are growing in number and political clout. This strange marriage of Muslims and Marxists is the same one that led to the downfall of the shah of Iran in 1979. PRESIDENT TRUMP signed two executive orders Monday that pave the way for the coming Antichrist. It'a unlikely the president understands that's what he's done. The ruling elites of ancient Israel were compared to cannibals eating the flesh of those they were supposed to protect. The prophet Micah, a contemporary of Isaiah, prophesied the coming judgment of God on the kingdoms of Israel and Judah at the hand of the Assyrians. Our chronological reading order brings the book of Micah into the middle of our study of Isaiah. While Isaiah prophesied a day when the kingdom of Judah would declare, “God is my salvation,” Micah's prophecy is a warning of God's imminent judgment for the sins of Judah and Samaria. We see both prophecies as being of the “already but not yet” type, fulfilled in the eighth century BC, but with a future fulfillment still to come. Bear in mind when reading Isaiah 12 that the the Hebrew word translated “salvation” is Yeshua—Jesus. THE ALIENS have landed with a thud. Although some have praised the new Steven Spielberg film Disclosure Day, many reviewers are less than overwhelmed. We haven't seen the film, but the Takeaway from those who have is that this film would have been much better received during the height of the popularity of The X-Files. Instead, this film feels like it's 30 years out of date. Speaking of aliens, we discuss the growing unrest in the United Kingdom after several recent knife attack attacks captured on video. Each one featured a recent arrival in the UK causing serious bodily harm to a person of European ancestry. A SECRETIVE religious group that wields power in Washington, D.C. and other world capitals — sounds like the basis for Dan Brown's next novel, but it's real. If it was possible to have a coin with three sides, this might be it. We discuss the Discovery of the remains of an employee of Los Alamos National Laboratory, who had gone missing 11 months ago. She reportedly performed a factory reset on both her phones and walked out into the desert. Melissa Casias is one of at least 11 people who have disappeared or died with connections to sensitive government programs related to the UFO phenomenon. Investigators say there is nothing to indicate foul play, but we remain skeptical. Meanwhile, the archbishop of Washington, D.C. removed a priest as an exorcist for the archdiocese after Monsignor Stephen Rossetti posted a video to his Facebook page connecting demons to the UFO phenomenon. While we don't entirely agree with Monsignor Rossetti's understanding, he's not entirely wrong. We also discussed a call by the cofounder of Anthropic, the developers of Claude, AI, for a pause on development of artificial intelligence because of his concern that Large Language Models are on the verge of full recursive self-improvement, meaning artificial intelligence could soon escape any restraints placed on it by humans. In other words, AI is closer to achieving the singularity than we think. Finally, we discussed strange news reports from New York City of men in full protective gear, wearing night goggles, descending into the sewer system at night and re-emerging several hours later. Police don't know what they've been doing down there, but they say at this point there is no threat to public safety. Again, we remain skeptical. A VISION of Noah was inserted into the Book of 1 Enoch, with interesting references to Leviathan and Behemoth. These are chaos monsters. Leviathan, described as female and from the sea, and Behemoth, male and occupying the wilderness—possibly the same one into which the Watcher Azazel was thrown as punishment for his role in corrupting humanity. We discussed the “already but not yet” prophecies of 1 Enoch 57–59 and the end times fulfillment of the vision ascribed to Noah in chapter 60. As a reminder, this month's study comes from the Book of Parables, the prophetic section of 1 Enoch written just before the birth of Jesus. The importance of this section of the book is in its prophecies of a coming messianic figure called the Chosen One, the Anointed One, and, most frequently, the Son of Man, a title not found in any prior Jewish writing. Jesus referred to himself as the Son of Man 78 times in the New Testament. The high regard for 1 Enoch held by Jesus, the apostles, and the early church suggests that it's worth our while to study this book for ourselves. It's not in the Bible, nor should it be, but there are teachings in the New Testament that come straight from the book of 1 Enoch. This is our continuing series pulled from archives going back to 2005. This week, we go through the looking glass in a 2005 episode that shows why we call this program Peering Into Darkness Radio. Originally released June 6, 2005 This week's PID Radio connects some dots to reveal a very disturbing picture. Satanic ritual abuse is a controversial topic. But not only is ritual abuse a real phenomenon, we believe it is more widespread than most of us realize. What's more--and more frightening--it appears that there is an ongoing, coordinated effort to use children, especially marginalized children from poor or broken homes, as sexual playthings for the wealthy and powerful. We talked about the Johnny Gosch case, which was a central thread to tonight's show. Johnny was abducted from Des Moines in 1982 at the age of 12, allegedly by a group working for a man named Lawrence King, owner of the Franklin Community Credit Union in Omaha, Nebraska. Johnny's mother hasn't seen him since--but he's back in the news. Earlier this year, it was revealed that a reporter for an Internet news site, Jeff Gannon, was actually James Guckert, a former male prostitute who had somehow managed to get security clearance to attend White House press briefings. Speculation began to circulate around the web that Gannon/Guckert was in fact the adult Johnny Gosch. What's especially disturbing about this case are the connections between Lawrence King, Boys Town, and power brokers in the Republican Party at the national level: One of the young men who testified in the Franklin Credit Union case was able to draw an accurate floor plan of the private living quarters inside the White House--where the public is never allowed. In addition to the Franklin case, we discussed recent cases of satanic abuse of children in Louisiana, Ohio, the U.K.; the involvement of the CIA in abducting children for use as prostitutes (and possible mind control purposes); and the connection of the recent death of “gonzo journalist” Hunter S. Thompson, Johnny Gosch, and a “snuff film” that may have been recorded at the Bohemian Grove, an annual retreat near Sacramento, California popular with powerful conservative politicians. What's being done to our children is dark and twisted, but it is definitely not limited to a few isolated cases of disturbed individuals. Today Is Pentecost, fifty days after Passover. It's the day the Holy Spirit descended on the followers of Jesus and the day Moses descended Mount Sinai with the Law. We discussed the similarities and differences between those two events. For example, the fire on Mount Sinai and the tongues of fire over the heads of the followers of Jesus; and the 3,000 saved on Pentecost in Acts chapter 2 contrasted with the 3000 who were put to death when Moses returned from Sinai to find the Israelites engaged in debauchery around the golden calf. We also discuss the change between the law on tablets of stone and the law written on our hearts. We bring in passages from Ezekiel 36 in which God promised to restore Israel to the land—not because the Israelites earned it, but for the sake of His Holy Name so that the world would know He is Yahweh. This was fulfilled in 1948. A CONVERGENCE between the pagan world of gods and magic and the high-tech world of artificial intelligence is creating a strange Venn diagram wherein the lines between silicon and spirit are getting blurry. We discuss the use of AI by people seeking spiritual enlightenment and the development of a digital futurist that appeared at this year's South by Southwest event, Delph.ai—a reference to the oracle of Delphi, the most famous of the women in the ancient world who ostensibly passed along messages from the god Apollo. These oracles were so important that they were sought even by the emperors of Rome until they fell silent in the third century AD because of the influence of Christians (as we documented in our book Giants, Gods & Dragons). We also talked about the growing impact of Muslim migration on the United Kingdom, where its second largest city, Birmingham, just elected a Pakistani mayor who barely speaks English and prefers to communicate in Urdu. The arrival of the Ark of the Covenant in Jerusalem in the time of David is a foreshadowing of the prophesied return of our King to his earthly throne. This week, we flash back about 250 years to study four psalms we overlooked during the life of David. These Psalms of praise would have been written just after the arrival of the Ark of the Covenant in Jerusalem, as described in 1 Chronicles 13–16. We also discuss the covenants between God and Abraham, Moses, and David, and the difference between the unconditional covenants made with Abraham and David and the Sinaitic covenant with Moses. Though the Israelites, and later Jews, broke faith with God, there are promises. He made that were not dependent on the faithfulness of the people of Israel. Zechariah 12 and 14 tells us of a day when Messiah arrives in Jerusalem at the hour of Israel's greatest need. He will establish His eternal throne there: For the LORD has chosen Zion;he has desired it for his dwelling place:“This is my resting place forever;here I will dwell, for I have desired it. Forgive the boomer reference to the original Star Trek, but it's the best title we could come up with quickly. Marches commemorating the Nakba (Arabic “catastrophe") are taking place today around the world, marking 78 years since the brand new state of Israel miraculously survived an invasion by its five Arab neighbors. The messianic prophecy of the one called "the Branch" is the focus of this week's study. We explore the “already but not yet” fulfillment of the promises of the restoration of Israel and judgment against Israel's neighbors—which May have already found partial fulfillment in the wars fought by Israel since 1948. We discuss the seven Spirits of Isaiah 11:2 and the references to those Spirits in the book of Revelation and their relationship to Jesus. We also discussed these so-called Mandela verse, Isaiah 11:6. This is a reference to the Mandela Effect, an Internet meme from a few years ago that claimed time travelers had somehow gone back into history and changed the verse to read, “the wolf shall dwell with the lamb," from, "the lion shall lie down with the lamb." Let's be clear: Isaiah 11:6 never said the lion would lie down with the lamb. First of all, time travel is not a thing. Second, even if it was, God would never allow His Word to be changed. OK, that title is clickbait. But it does relate to the biggest stories of the week: The ongoing conflict with Iran and the release of government UFO files. We discuss President Trump's quiet squeeze play on Iran, cutting off its access to a shadow banking system the regime has been using to finance missiles, mercenaries, and proxies on Israel's borders like Hezbollah and Hamas. ASSUR WAS a name that referred to Assyria, the capital city of Assyria, and the chief deity of Assyria. Knowing which was which means relying on the context in which it's used. In Derek's book The Second Coming of Saturn, he shared research, showing that the word used by the prophet Isaiah for idols, ellilim, derives from the Akkadian name for Assur, Elllil (also known as Enlil, El, Dagon, Molech, Kronos, and Saturn, among others). These idols, then, were spirit beings—underworld spirits equivalent to the Rephaim, or malakim, as they were known at the ancient Amorite kingdoms of Ebla and Mari. In short, we believe chapter 10 of Isaiah is a polemic against the entity called Assur, whom we believe is Shemihazah, the leader of the rebellious sons of God in chapter 6 of the book of Genesis. AS SOCIALISTS worldwide celebrated their annual high holy day, reports about the danger of artificial intelligence bubble under daily reports about Iran and the aftermath of the attempt on President Trump's life last Saturday.  A recent study found that eight out of ten popular AI models assisted researchers posing as 13-year-old boys in planning mass casualty events, despite assurances from developers that guardrails are in place to prevent such things. Taken together with the continued development of lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS), some of which are already making appearances on the battlefield in Ukraine, we speculate that entities in the unseen realm may be developing these systems for their own future goals.  That's speculation, of course, but not outside the realm of plausibility. This is our continuing series pulled from archives going back to 2005. This week, we present a program from 2009 in which we summarized a conspiracy so vast it's come to be known as The Octopus. Originally released October 4, 2009 THE TITLE of tonight's show is a reference to the conspiracy investigated by journalist Danny Casolaro--whose death, despite the official ruling, remains a mystery. Casolaro believed it tied the United States government to the Inslaw case (a software company that accused the Justice Department of stealing its extremely powerful PROMIS case management software), the so-called “October Surprise” theory that Iran had held back the American hostages to help Ronald Reagan win the 1980 presidential election, the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, and the Iran-Contra scandal. The scheme was so vast and complex that Casolaro referred to it as “the Octopus.” Casolaro was found dead in a hotel room in Martinsburg, West Virginia in August of 1991, his wrists slashed 10 to 12 times. His death was, of course, ruled a suicide. Casolaro's story might have continued its slow fade into the dusty corners of conspiracy theory folklore, except that charges were filed this week against a Miami-based missionary to Honduras named Jimmy Hughes for the 1981 slayings of Fred Alvarez and two associates in Rancho Mirage, California. It is believed that Alvarez was killed to silence him before he could carry out a threat to expose financial improprieties and other illegal activity on the Cabazon Indian reservation in Riverside County, California. Incredibly, what happened on Cabazon land in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s reaches around the world and into the highest levels of the US government -- part of Casolaro's “Octopus”. Central to the story (especially when he tells it) is the mysterious Michael Riconosciuto, now serving a 20-year sentence for production and distribution of meth. Understanding “the Octopus” is like the old story of the blind men trying to comprehend their first encounter with an elephant: the parts you touch can appear to be completely different and totally unrelated. Running over the outlines of the case in about half an hour, we didn't even mention mainstream media reports -- published prior to 9/11 -- that FBI spy Robert Hanssen sold an upgraded version of PROMIS to Russia, which in turn sold it to Osama bin Laden. It's believed Al Qaeda used the software to penetrate databases and move funds between banks without being detected by US counterterror groups. A PROMIS derivative was also allegedly used by Chinese military intelligence to steal nuclear secrets from the Los Alamos and Sandia national laboratories. So, like the Octopus, the tentacles extending from the modifications made by Michael Riconosciuto at the Cabazon reservation are many and far-reaching. JUDGMENT ON evil kings and fallen angels is a major theme of the section of 1 Enoch called the Book of Parables.  This week, we discuss the vision of a deep valley where “angels of punishment” prepare “instruments of Satan” for kings and mighty men who've rebelled against God—and a second valley where “iron chains of immeasurable weight” are “prepared for the hosts of Azazel.” Our reading today ends with the prophecy of the final war against heathen powers. A STATUE of the goddess Athena has been discovered among the ruins of Laodicea—the site of the church Jesus said he would vomit out of his mouth. This is a fitting symbol for the world today. Athena is one manifestation of the ancient Sumerian goddess Inanna, a gender-fluid entity of sex and violence. THE DESTRUCTION of Israel is a theme throughout the book of Amos, but it ends with a prophecy of restoration. The northern kingdom of Israel had engaged in idolatry since the time of Jeroboam, who split the kingdom of Solomon about 200 years before the time of Amos. For this, and for the treatment of the poor by Israel's elites, God decreed the destruction of the kingdom. This was to be fulfilled more than once – first, when Assyria destroyed the northern kingdom in 722 BC; and second, when the Romans scattered the Jews after the rebellion of Simon bar Kokhba in 136 AD. And yet, God told Amos a day would come when the Lord would restore Israel to the land. The reference to "the booth of David" must include the southern kingdom of Judah, since that was where the descendants of David ruled. This was fulfilled in 1948. We believe the prophet Ezekiel also saw this (Ezekiel 36:22–24). IRAN HAS decided to play red light, green light with the Strait of Hormuz. Less than 24 hours after President Trump announced the opening of the critical waterway, Iran declared it closed again. Further, two Indian flagged tankers reportedly came under fire from Iranian speedboats. This suggests that negotiations between the US and Iran over a peaceful resolution to Operation Epic Fury are simply a stalling tactic by the Iranian regime, perhaps counting on Democrats winning the midterm elections or even the 2028 presidential election. Given the way Presidents Biden and Obama willingly sent billions of dollars to Tehran, you can hardly blame them. We discuss the bind into which Iran has placed China, which gets up to 20% of its oil imports from the Islamic regime – at a deep discount because Iran has few buyers for its oil due to sanctions. This is exacerbated by China's loss of access to Venezuelan oil. As a result, China has had to suddenly ramp up its purchases of American oil to roughly $10 billion worth per month. In addition, the United States just signed a defense agreement with Indonesia. That nation sits on the west side of the cap, Strait of Malacca, a waterway even more critical to China's oil imports than the Strait of Hormuz. And to make things more interesting, American oil sails through the Panama Canal, which is now once again under American control, thanks to President Trump. In short, the United States now controls China's access to about 25% of its oil imports, and has military control over waterways through which about 80% of Chinese oil imports flow, for which the Chinese must now pay full price. This may be President Trump's way of responding to China's threats to control American access to critical rare earth minerals. We also discuss the corrupting influence of social media on sharing the gospel. Children now graduate high school so reliant on artificial intelligence that they literally don't see the need to read anything longer than a menu. PROPHESYING DOOM and destruction during a time of peace and prosperity does not make one popular with the ruling elites. Amos learned this while declaring God's judgment on the northern kingdom of Israel during the reign of Jeroboam II (reigned 793–753 BC), the time of Israel's greatest power. The prophet was confronted by Amaziah, the priest of Bethel, and told to flee to the southern kingdom of Judah, which prompted the Lord to tell the priest that his wife would be forced into prostitution, his children would fall by the sword, Amaziah would die in a foreign land, and Israel would be taken away into exile. These things did come to pass in 732 BC, when Assyria conquered Israel and captured the capital city of Samaria. We also discuss the strange reference in the Septuagint to “King Gog” or “Agag, the king” in Amos 7:1, which is quite different from the ESV rendering, “the king's mowings” (or the NET translation, “the royal harvest”). Apparently the LXX translators didn't know what to make of the literal Hebrew (“the mowings of the king”) but recognized the context as a prophecy of destruction. Agag was the Amalekite king spared by Saul (and then executed by Samuel). In the book of Esther, Haman, the Persian official who plotted the genocide of the Jews (and thus a symbol of hatred toward Jews), was called “the Agagite.” Gog, a reference to Ezekiel 38–39, is the great end times enemy of God—essentially the Old Testament conception of the Antichrist.  Thus, the Septuagint translators who struggled to interpret an archaic reference simply plugged in a similar-sounding word (Gog or Agag) that preserved the context of a prophesied supernatural enemy of God and Israel.
