Digital marketing is the practice of promoting products and services using digital channels such as social media, search engines, email and other platforms. This episode covers social media marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), email marketing, pay-per-click (PPC) advertising and content marketing. Tracy Brinkmann, talks about how digital marketing can help entrepreneurs, coaches, and course creators build their businesses online. He discusses the importance of digital marketing in today's world and provide examples of how to use digital marketing tactics to reach and engage with their target audience.   Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a practice of optimizing a website and its content so that it ranks higher on the search engine results page. It is an important part of digital marketing as it can help increase visibility and drive organic traffic to the website. Key components of a successful SEO strategy include keyword research, which is the process of identifying the keywords and phrases that target audiences are searching for. On page optimization is another component which refers to elements in the website that can be optimized for the search engines. Additionally, businesses should always try to rank for their own name in order to increase visibility. SEO is an essential part of digital marketing as it helps to drive organic, free traffic to a website.   SEO is a key component of digital marketing that can help increase visibility and drive organic traffic to a website. It encompasses elements like page titles, meta descriptions, headers, content, backlinks, social signals, brand mentions, page speed, mobile-friendliness, and website structure. Examples of successful SEO campaigns include Maas' Beginner's Guide to SEO, HubSpot's Blog, and Backlinko's Skyscraper Technique. Measuring results is essential in optimizing an SEO strategy, and understanding the key components is vital in achieving success.   In this episode, Tracy discusses SEO and email marketing as two key components of digital marketing. SEO involves optimizing content and website structure to generate organic traffic, while email marketing involves sending targeted messages to subscribers to promote products and services, build relationships, and drive conversions. When it comes to email marketing, it is essential to build an email list, obtain consent from subscribers, and segment the list. I've been listening to their podcasts for a year now I've been watching them on social media, I trust them. Yeah, it's going to drive that engagement, it's going to build that loyalty and by creating valuable content that provides insights and advice to your audience you're going to build that trust you're going to build that know like and trust vector and you're going to establish a strong brand identity. Now, when you use each one of those independently, when you use them together, these tactics can create this cohesive digital marketing ecosystem that attracts, engages, and converts prospects into customers, into advocates, into Raving fans. For example, you could use your social media accounts to drive traffic to your website.   You can build their brand awareness. You can create that authority and drive conversions. PPC well, this is advertising that allows you to target a very specific audience with highly relevant ads, driving traffic to your website, generating leads and or sales all by targeting specific keywords and demographics. You can reach the right people with the right message right at the right time. And then finally, we talked about content marketing, which helps establish you, your brand, your organization, your company as a thought leader in your space, in your niche, in your industry.   I get these types of things. You could get them to in your niche. Social media marketing let's talk about that for a second can drive you traffic from your website and increase your brand awareness by creating engaging social media content that encourages that it can be shared and creates that engagement. Right? You can expand your reach and drive more traffic to your website there you go SEO we talked about that helps improve your website's visibility on the search engines driving more organic traffic to your site by optimizing your website's content and structure for relevant keywords what is your folks are searching for? Remember got to know your target audience.   Okay? Again, social media marketing, SEO, email marketing, content marketing, these are all critical components of the successful overall digital marketing ecosystem. Each tactic plays a unique role in attracting, engaging, and converting potential customers into loyal advocates. Right? And then turn your loyal advocates into your raving fans. These are the people that are out there telling people about your services without you even asking them to.. I have one gentleman that this weekend actually was just yesterday, so it wasn't even the weekend. Yesterday sent me two referrals because I helped him start his podcast. He's like, oh, my God, tracy is so amazing. They were in a conversation they were like, I keep being told to start a podcast and he sent them my way, right? Just because I have established myself as the thought leader in that industry.   The program also features a blog that provides tips and advice on beauty and skincare. The program has been such a huge success and has get this, 10 million members. Imagine if you even had 1% of that on your email list by sharing whatever content you have in a newsletter. Yeah, about that. Now, content marketing again, is a powerful tool for building a strong brand identity, a strong thought leadership identity. Establish yourself as that thought leader in your niche, in your area, in your industry, and drive profitable customer actions.

When it comes to getting your site ranked on Google searches, the trendy advice you hear a lot is always just to create great content. Which is great and you should be creating great content, but just having great content in and of itself is only going to get you so far. So do you know what the number one factor after creating, excellent, relevant content for your target audience, when it comes to search engine ranking is? It's links. But links are really hard to build. So how are you going to build them? #1 Guest Posting If you've never heard of guest posting before, it is basically you producing content for other people's blogs, and then they are linking back to your site in the author bio. The way this usually works is that you find relevant blogs that are in your niche, and then you reach out to the blog owners, and you pitch them your idea. Using special terms on Google combined with the keywords that you want to rank for, you can easily identify websites that allow for guest posting Things like: your keyword(s) + inurl:write-for-us your keyword(s) + become a contributor your keyword(s) + guest post by Are great ways to find sites in your niche accepting guest posts. #2 Providing journalists with content aka Help A Reporter Out When journalists need help producing a piece of content, where do they turn to? They go to HARO and post questions for expert quotes etc. If you can help them answer the questions they have, you can get some free press. There are lots of big international websites like entrepreneur.com, inc.com, etc. that are using HARO. #3 Using Side Projects to grow organic links Side Projects can help you save your business (like Unsplash did for their mother company), but it can also get you a ton of backlinks when other people are writing about it. #4 Broken Link Building Over the years, websites come and go. This also means the links that are included in pieces of content on a site. This tip involves you contacting the webmaster of a website to report broken links on his or her website. Of course, when you suggest a replacement, this will be a link to your website ;-) #5 10x Content If you create something epic, something so good that it is at least ten times better than your competitor that is currently ranking on number one of the search results page. People are inclined to change the links they have in their current articles to updated with a better resource for their listeners. Brian Dean coined this the Skyscraper Technique. Find a good ranking piece Create a 10x better piece content Reach out to websites linking to the original piece using the following template: Subject: Hi [NAME], I just read your article “[ARTICLE TITLE]” Email: Hey [NAME], I’m a long-time reader of your site, ever since I read “[OLD POST TITLE]”. I just wanted to let you know that in your article “[POST TITLE](LINK)” you link to one of my favourite articles ever: “[NAME OF ARTICLE](LINK). I absolutely love that resource. You know what? I actually set out to make something similar: [YOUR URL]. It’s like [ARTICLE NAME], but more up to date and comprehensive. You may want to consider linking to my article from your page. Either way, I’ll see you around at [SITE NAME] and I’ve also shared the post to our following on Twitter. Have a great day, [YOUR NAME] ► Read more tips on our blog

Topics Discussed in this Episode: [02:38] What Eric learned from his experience working at Treehouse [04:03] What kind of shape Single Grain was in when Eric first got involved with it [07:25] How things got worse for Single Grain [09:11] What they did to keep Single Grain from going out of business and turn things around [11:36] How they got their clients to stick for 12 to 18 months [12:46] What helped Single Grain the most in terms of marketing [18:06] How they figured out what actually works for SEO [20:20] How they started doing a podcast and growing it substantially [23:35] The strategies that they used to grow the Marketing School Podcast [29:40] How to set and manage client expectations   Key Takeaways: Whatever you do in your life, as long as you’re constantly trying to make yourself and grow, you will earn people’s respect. You can see a lot of instability happen when sales aren’t going well. Everything that you want to get done in a company is all based on people. Whatever you’re trying to accomplish, you have to be good with people. If you’re starting an agency, paid advertising is fantastic. And it’s a nice gateway into other services down the road. When the client thinks of you more as the extended arm of their marketing team versus just a vendor, that’s when your relationship with them last a lot longer. Action Steps: Build a relationship capital with people. Vet every single one of your hires, no matter how senior they are. Write evergreen content and then use Brian Dean’s Skyscraper Technique. If you decide to do a podcast, publish an episode every single day. Constantly bring new ideas to the table for your clients. Eric said: “As long as you’re constantly trying to grow yourself, people are going to respect that.” “When sales are happening, things are fine; but when things aren’t going well, that’s when you start to see a lot of instability.” More from Eric Siu: Eric’s Instagram Single Grain Growth Everywhere Podcast Marketing School Podcast Resources mentioned: The Skyscraper Technique by Brian DeanMixergy Podcast Redpoint Ventures Rocket Fuel by Gino WickmanTim Ferriss Podcast Treehouse Sponsor link 14-day Free Trial to LeadQuizzes Thank you for listening! Heard about the Skyscraper technique in online marketing but never tried it out? Had a go at using it but didn’t get results? Then this episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast is for you! Listen to our chat with Paul Kortman of nomadtogether.com on how this relatively new approach to link building can be pulled off effectively to benefit your website’s visibility. In essence, the Skyscraper technique begins with identifying a blog post or web page that’s both relevant to your audience and has been linked to by many authoritative websites. The idea is to then see a weakness in the post and write your own, on your business’ website and/or blog. Then, contact the websites that linked to the original post and aim to convince them to link to yours – or, even better, get them to switch their link from the old post to yours! With links, it’s about quantity as well as quality. To get a high amount of authoritative website linking to content on your website, you need to give them a reason to do so. The Skyscraper technique focuses on this, centring in on a piece of content that websites have already seen fit to link to, and then offering something even better affiliate themselves with. Paul and Head Ninja Tim take us step-by-step through the entire process of how to successfully pull this strategy off. They look at the traditional marketing techniques it riffs off and how to refine your approach to make it a consistent link builder for your website.
