In today's episode, we are grateful to spend time with Scott MacGregor, who is the CEO of SomethingNew (SomethingNew is an 8-time American Business Award winner for Innovation, which is a record!!! ), the founder of The Outlier Project and 4x author of Standing O!  After a long and successful corporate career, Scott took his talents to entrepreneurship where he continues to excel, and make a huge difference in the world.   The Outlier Project is a unique membership community for professional development and is for anyone who believes success is found by showing up differently.  They are fond of saying, “Anyone can be ordinary”.  A special focus of The Outlier Project is to develop leaders who believe that companies and individuals alike succeed or fail based on the quality of the teams they build and the relationships they invest in.  Scott and his team call this having a “People Over Everything” mindset.  Today's conversation is as real as it gets.  It's filled with laughter, wisdom, adversity, resilience, and vulnerability.  Scott grew up with a dad who worked hard, very hard.  He was a gas station owner, and his mom was a stay-at-home mom who looked after them.    Scott learned so much about grit, resilience, and curiosity through his parents.   As a 10-year-old, Scott learned early the power of providing excellent customer service.   Scott and his wife, Meg, have two sons  - Cooper & Tucker.Where things turned powerful was Scott's story of vulnerability surrounding his son Tucker, who faced challenges in the Marine Corps.   Scott attributes his son's challenges to a lack of building resilience early, where they might've done too much for him.   I hope Scott's personal story will hit home for someone and help them realize you are not alone.  As parents, he shares that the adversity we face is a gift.  It comes down to choices; we cannot be victims of our circumstances.   To learn more about Scott, you can visit him on LinkedIn or at https://theoutlierproject.co/Lattitude Sitka Our sea adventures cover fishing, wildlife tours, beach excursions, scuba diving, snorkeling, paddleEstablished in 2006, Acme Homes WA One of the most value-based home builders in the state of Washington! See below for a quick background on each of my awesome guests, sit back and soak in some content marketing gold! In short, the episode is a must-watch for anyone looking to improve their content strategy and build a strong online presence. Marcus Sawyerr emphasizes the importance of authentic conversations as a driving force behind engagement. He believes that it's crucial to focus on topics that you know your audience is interested in and to build your audience from there.‍ Adam Posner then discusses the content pyramid, which is a critical aspect of their content creation strategy. He explains how they turn their show into a podcast, individual pieces of content, and even key phrases into tweets. He also highlights the importance of experimenting with different channels and mentions how he has doubled down on LinkedIn and hired his daughter to be his TikTok creator-in-chief.‍ Scott MacGregor, on the other hand, takes a different approach and focuses on unscalable methods, such as personal emails and calls to candidates, instead of mass email marketing. He believes that doing things in an offbeat manner works best for him.‍ Ginnette Harvey shares her experience of trying to do it all, which resulted in burnout. She emphasizes the importance of focusing on what works best for you and avoiding spreading yourself too thin.‍ Joel Lalgee thinks creating content always you to scale your 1:1 interaction to a broader audience. He really focuses on connecting with people, entertaining them, and providing some valuable insights.‍In conclusion, the episode offers valuable insights into the world of content creation. Whether it's experimenting with different channels, focusing on authentic conversations, or taking an offbeat approach, the guests stress the importance of finding what works best for you and sticking to it. They also offer advice on what not to do, such as link sharing without adding value or relying too heavily on AI tools. The name of the game is OUTSOURCING when it comes to effective content creation and repurposing across channels. Make sure you have a system in place and people on your team that understand your voice and vision. Joel has also seen great success and efficiency in engaging in the comment section. Although it's not as intensive of a connection as having a full conversation, you have many more micro-interactions that build a larger community. SomethingNew is a record seven-time recipient of the American Business Award for Innovation and winner of Best of Staffing. Growing up, he had dreams of becoming a professional athlete, but a career-ending injury in college forced him to pivot and refocus his energy into business. He was the youngest National Account Manager in the history of Pitney Bowes, a Fortune 500 Company, and at the age of 29, he took a bold leap into the startup world. After 10 years of putting the plan together for SomethingNew, Scott launched the company that redefines talent acquisition and recruiting.  In 2020, he asked himself, “How can I give back more? How can I help more people?” The answer to that came in the form of a private membership community called Talent Champions Council. The idea behind the community was to teach leadership principles, spread his ‘People Over Everything' mantra, and help industry leaders uplevel their businesses. In just two short years, the platform has amounted to over 500 members in 29 countries, and hosted 140 live,  interactive events.  When Scott came up with the idea for SomethingNew, he was dedicated to building a company that gave back. He was able to combine his passion for learning about people's unique stories and philanthropy by publishing the Standing O! books. Each book features prominent CEOs, professional athletes, bestselling authors, Olympians, military leaders, and more who share chapters of gratitude for life lessons learned, and 100% of the proceeds go to charity. This week we welcome Scott MacGregor to the podcast. Prior to entering the world of talent acquisition, Scott spent 17 years as Chief Revenue Officer for Flo-Tech, where he saw the company grow from five employees to more than 300. Along the way, his experiences with recruiting systems and processes led him to believe that talent acquisition is fundamentally broken, which inspired him to start his own talent strategy firm, SomethingNew. Scott is also the proud Founder & CEO of the Talent Champions Council, a private membership community designed to mobilize expertise in talent strategy from the best in corporations, the military and professional sports.Topics include: the value of applying first principles thinking to talent acquisition, why traditional recruiting fee structures are illogical, the “epidemic” of treating recruiting as a cost center, the disconnect between the importance of HR and its lack of attention from the C-suite, why many recruiters lack the skills required to effectively vet job candidates, what professional sports and the military can teach us about recruiting, how to use scorecards to make data-driven hiring decisions, the importance of investing in employees with robust onboarding and training programs, and the post-COVID outlook for talent acquisition.

Scott MacGregor is the founder & CEO of SomethingNew LLC, one of the fastest-growing talent strategy companies in the country. SomethingNew is a record five-time recipient of the American Business Award for Innovation and winner of Best of Staffing. Scott’s belief that good companies do good things led him to establish SomethingGood™, which is the social mission component of SomethingNew. His first two books, Standing O!, Standing O! Encore and now Standing O! Salute are part of that mission as all of the proceeds go to charity. Prior to starting Something New Scott was the youngest National Account Manager in the history of Fortune 500 Company, Pitney Bowes, and at age 29 joined a startup as Chief Revenue Officer where he served for almost 17 years. Cool things to know about Scott:  He grew up poor in an affluent town Scott sat on his own business plan for 10 years before making the leap into entrepreneurship. He credits his wife for giving him the support he needed to make the decision The idea for Something New came from Scott’s belief that recruiting was broken on both sides And unlike many entrepreneurs Scott is only married to his wife and nothing else Scott’s the real deal. “I’ve always had encouragers in my life. Mainly it was coaches. And when I was a knucklehead, there were people that would keep me on track.  And then belief...belief that you can do what people don’t think you can do..”   I speak a lot of the virtues of just asking, regardless of what it is you are seeking. I asked Scott MacGregor if he would include me in his incredible anthology, “Standing O”, and he said yes, which led me to meeting today’s incredible podcast guest, Robert Hamilton Owens. Rob has been proving to himself and others that there almost no limits to what you can accomplish, regardless of age, as long as you put your mind to it.   “My kid one day says “You’re pretty old at 50…” and I said “WHAT?”! I thought “You know what, I think I’ll make a comeback, and put these kids at the finish line!”  And so I did an Ironman at 50, and I found out I liked it and thought it was really fun. So I started doing it every year after that!”   This past year, at the age of 65, Rob completed the World Marathon, running 7 marathons on 7 continents on successive days, and hearing his story of just getting through the first day on Antarctica will leave you truly amazed. But my friends, that only scratches the surface! Rob has been competing in the Ironman Triathlon for years, was a USAF Pararescueman, which is harder to join than the Navy Seals, Army Rangers, Green Berets etc. As he says, “We’re the ones who get sent in to rescue the other special ops servicemen!”   “Did you get your win today?” Every day you ought to have a win, and program a win. One less cigarette, one less calorie, one less anger issue. Habits develop habits and wins give confidence for more wins. It's those little steps every day to say no to something or say yes to something. I get people every day who message me and say they got a win today. “I am gaining confidence because that which used to be impossible is happening.”   It was challenging to squeeze so much accomplishment into one episode, along with tons of advice on how to be mentally and physically prepared for all obstacles, but you’ll be able to get so much out of this, give it a listen! Soon you’ll be competing in your own World Marathon Challenge, you’ll see! Some Topics we talk about in this episode: Introduction - 2:00 Encouragers in Robert's Life- 4:11 Growing Up Average -  6:00 Becoming a Lifeguard - 11:08 Joining The Military - 15:40 Air Force Pararescue Courageous Acts - 18:11 Ready to Run/ Pivoting to Extreme Competition - 22:20 Time For a Comeback - 24:00 Killing Time with Incredible Occupations - 25:37 Mental Toughness - 31: 20 Did You get Your Win Today - 33:30 Being Polite Goes A long Way - 35:20 777 - 36:40 The Whole Thing Was Insane! - 43:48 They Give You 8 Hours - 48:23 What You’re going Through is not Unique to You - 49:30 Write It Down - 52:06 Hit Your Mark - 54:00   How to get involved Be sure to connect with me on Social Media @MarkMoyerCoach and go to my website, www.markmoyer.com to get access to the tips and strategies that my coaching clients get directly. Nothing Brings About Success Like Walking Through The Right DoorsThose close to me, who know the real me, know I have no problem asking for help. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It is an opportunity to expand your horizons. I'm flabbergasted by the amount of people who simply fail to ask for help.I've made it my mission to educate, engage and excite all those inside the sales world. Sales leaders and their sales teams must stand up, unite and transform how they go to market in a world full of sales sameness.I believe every single sales rep must articulate a strong value proposition and tailor them to different stakeholders. They must be able to devote a tremendous amount of effort to understanding the customer, their needs, their wants, their issues; packaging all of this up by focusing on adding value every step of the way.I spent 27 years inside an extremely old school sales channel, laggard in nature and slow to adopt to modern ways of growing business; the copier channel. I've directed many pointed blogs at the industry such as, Sales Transformation... The Key To Success As A Copier Sales Rep I speak loudly to how copier sales reps must transform themselves. They must take it upon themselves to innovative inside a very slow to adapt sales channel.I now direct this same message to every sales channel out there... How are you innovating? How are you adapting to what is happening around you? What's standing in your way?EVOLVE OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCESIn life, shit happens! The spring of 2015, I found myself in a position where life took a massive turn. We all face challenging times in life. We can either let it consume us as we fade into a downward life spiral or we can use it as a launching pad to reinvent, reinvigorate and reignite passion; a passion to challenge ones mindset and skill set to start something new.A special shout out to my close friend and mentor who started his journey at the same time Scott MacGregor, at SomethingNew.I've had the fortunate experience of meeting many amazing people throughout my lifetime. A special thank you to my dear friend, Darrell Amy. Without a doubt, the most genuine, authentic and caring individuals I know. His belief in me and more importantly his ability to push me out of my comfort zone has changed me for the better, and I am forever grateful!THE LAUNCH OF SOMETHING SPECIALEvolve or perish! Two words being thrown at sales reps all over the world. Evolve to me means trying something new, adapting and adopting; constantly being on the look out to improve everything about what you do.With the heartfelt support of Darrell Amy, my business baby was launched to the sales world! The Social Sales Academy is fully committed to helping B2B sales teams integrate social into their sales process to ignite and fuel sales growth. We want you to get results. We're passionate about doing this the right way, the genuine way, the authentic way! Straight from the heart!ARE YOU CREATING VISIBILITY"How do you expect to get noticed in a marketplace when nobody knows you exist?"In a highly digitally business world, how do sales people get noticed? How do they rise above all others to stand out?You have to be willing to put yourself out there. Integrating social is jet fuel to anybody in sales who uses it in conjunction with every other prospecting strategy. I threw myself out into the marketplace to get noticed. Combining a strict work ethic, I leveraged outbound strategies coupled with a commitment to social and marketed what I was all about inside the sales channel I grew up in, the copier channel.I pounded the phone. I drove emails. I spoke at industry events. I wrote articles in industry magazines. I started blogging. I leveraged every single business development tool available to get noticed. I made this a non-negotiable deal. In the span of two years, I've written over 135 blogs, over 40 published articles and have spoken at events all over the United States, Canada and Australia.I've worked with sales leaders and their teams throughout the United States, Australia and Canada. I've infused excitement and proof that social integrated into the sales process does work. I like to consider myself the biggest excuse remover out there!I'm in the process of publishing my first book, Selling From The Heart... How Your Authentic Self Sells You (to be released by the summer of 2018).I share this with all of you as you all have the capability of making this happen. We've all been giving the same sets of tools to use, it's how we choose to use them. The commitment I made to myself matters the most. My personal goal and commitment... I want to make a difference by helping sales people become the sales professionals I know they can become.SELLING FROM THE HEART PODCAST AND JEB BLOUNTApril of 2017, the Selling From The Heart Podcast was born. This was another avenue for Darrell Amy and I to get our message out to the sales world. Our podcast is all about being genuine, being real, being authentic and speaking from the heart as we help the sales community all over the world. The guests that come onto our podcast share our same mission and are advocates in selling from the heart. It was this podcast episode that changed my world... Jeb Blount, CEO of Sales Gravy. As the author of Sales EQ, Jeb shared his research about curiosity as a core sales skill on our podcast. Here's where it takes a turn... later that same evening I hear my cell phone ringing, looking at it and not recognizing the number I almost didn't answer but I did."Hey Larry, it's Jeb... Just wanted to call to say thank you again for having me on the podcast". I'm saying to myself, "Wholly crap!" For the next hour and a half we had a phenomenal conversation. The turning point in the conversation came when Jeb mentions to me that in April of 2018 he along with Mark Hunter, Mike Weinberg and Anthony Iannarinoare putting on the Outbound Conference. Jeb mentions, I've been following what you've been doing, what you've been writing about and I like what you stand for; would you like to share your story, your journey and how you have tied outbound with social strategies to get to where you are and speak at Outbound? Oh my freaking bleep, bleep, bleep, "Hell yeah Jeb I would be honored!"Let me tell you this ... If you never put yourself out there, how do you plan on getting noticed? How do you plan on attracting new sales opportunities? How do you plan on rising above all others, your competitors? Become comfortable with who you are. Share the real you and not some facade in hopes this impresses others to help you get noticed. The path I chose and carved out for myself has be done my way! The authentic way! The genuine way! The human way by staying real and being real by saying things that need to be said.People will see, smell and sense B.S. a mile away! If you can't be the real you then who are you?MY STORY, MY WAY, THE WAY I KNOW HOWI share this with you all for one reason and one reason only - you all have the ability to change your lives. It is believing in yourself, staying true to yourself and not allowing the voices of others take you down.We all have stories to tell. We all have a voice and the message needs to be told our way, your way; your unique way as you help to change the lives of those around you.I encourage every sales leaders and every sales professional to create a plan. This plan revolves around and encompasses leveraging every single business development tool available to help you get noticed in crowded marketplace. Think of your clients, your future clients, your network, your inner circle and your fellow teammates... How can you help them become better versions of themselves? How can you help them all in doing better business?I know you have it in you. If a 53 year old guy can reinvent and repackage himself then I trust you can do it. Trust me it will change your life! I'm having the time of my life. I wish the same for you.I hope this inspires you to take action. You owe it yourself, your career and your family!I understand, I get where you all are coming from. Every day, I walk in your shoes. I am fully committed to helping your sales team integrate social aspects and modern strategies into your current sales process to grow new business. I want you to get results.
