Millions of civilians are caught in an unimaginable hell that continues to unfold in Ukraine. But what's really happening on the battlefield? What weapons are making a difference? How are the Ukrainian and Russian militaries critically different? What critical missions in/around Ukraine might American Special Forces get tasked with? We've all seen lots of retired generals on cable news. And we've all seen quick videos on social media of tanks getting blown up. In this episode, we're going deeper in a way you haven't heard before. With a guest who knows more about 21st century battle than just about anyone. He doesn't just know it academically, he knows it personally. He's a returning guest and a true leader. Former Navy SEAL DEVGRU Commander, Chris Fussell. Chris (@FussellChris) is a man who knows war. Steeled by leadership roles in the most selective Special Operations units in the military, he understands the chaos of modern combat. He led the most elite unit: the Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU) and Navy SEAL Teams 2 and 8 on some of the most critical missions of our generation. He joined us back in Episode 50 in March, 2020–right before the pandemic exploded. And a month later for a special Dispatches. Chris spent 16 years at the tip of the spear for America's most complex national security challenges and as Aide-de-Camp to Gen Stanley McChrystal as he commanded the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) in Iraq. He teaches leadership at Yale, speaks to packed audiences, and coaches top leaders worldwide. He's the author of the bestsellers, Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World and One Mission: How Leaders Build a Team of Teams and now serves as President of McChrystal Group--an elite management consulting and leadership development firm in Washington. A former wrestler and with a degree in philosophy, Chris is a true warrior philosopher. He has a Master of Arts in Irregular Warfare from the Naval Postgraduate School, and received the Pat Tillman Award for highest peer-rated Special Operations Officer. His thesis focused on the interagency collaboration and intelligence sharing processes that drove effective, cross-silo collaboration during the peak of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Chris knows modern warfare. And he's gonna break down the strategic and tacticial. The political and psychological. Almost nobody you see on TV or hear on the radio has the depth of personal experience in combat that Chris does. Or the mind to pull apart what's happening beneath the headlines. Emily earned international notoriety after she led members of her community to the protest on January 6th which by itself wouldn't garner particular attention, however, she was a Special Operations Officer in the Psychological Operations branch. To the left-leaning, woke military of today attending an election integrity rally to hear her Commander in Chief speak (although completely with her rights and ALL regulations) was unacceptable. They wanted to make her an example to all conservatives in the military and permitted her to be painted as a criminal extremist as a warning to any other service members who dare take their Oath as seriously as she.Emily's zero-tolerance policy towards cooperating with the Scamdemic has caused many to follow her and many to hate her. As a nonpartisan activist, she leads a group of over 2k locals to enact change and push back on issues such as mask mandates and lockdowns. The worldwide Covidian cult is made plainer to Captain Rainey because of her propaganda training and experience.Since recently resigning her commission after nearly a decade of service the 31-year-old bought a small farm, and in the light of the country's current predicament, is working to build a self-reliant homestead for her and her family which, God willing, will one day be a refuge for others.Emily continues to lead her county-level conservative activism group with a current focus on electing new conservatives to the Board of Education.Connect with EmilyInstagram @emilygraceraineyPodcast Website: ItsMeseidy.comCommunity:Libertas Sisters is an online community of women who embrace femininity, self-reliance, and most importantly, believe in freedom. Luis Elizondo is a U.S Army Veteran who served for two decades as a Counter Intelligence & Special Operations Officer for the Department of Defence. In 2009 he was made the director of one of The Pentagons most clandestine programs, one that would not come to light for another 8 years when in December of 2017 the New York Times published its groundbreaking article that subsequently brought this program out of the shadows, it was called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program known internally as AATIP, and it's purpose was the tracking and analysis of UFOs or what is being more commonly referred to by the United States Defence & Intelligence Apparatus as ‘Unidentified Aerial Phenomena' or UAP. Tracy Walder joins Win Nation as a USC alum, Delta sorority sister, author, and former CIA officer and FBI special agent. While majoring in history at USC, Tracy was recruited at a career fair by the CIA, and she spent most of her career as a Special Operations Officer for the Agency's Counterterrorism Center. After her time in the CIA, she became a Special Agent for the FBI, specializing in counterintelligence operations. Tracy's five years of service earned her numerous awards during her time with both organizations. After her time with the CIA and FBI, Tracy authored The Unexpected Spy, an apolitical memoir of her experiences—such as debriefing terrorists—and insights as a young woman in intelligence and law enforcement. She hopes the book will help and inspire others who aspire to pursue a career in these fields. Tracy is currently a criminal justice professor at Texas Christian University and a teacher at an all-girls high school, teaching curriculum she created on terrorism and national security. As students have turned to her for advice over the years, she reveals that no specific “formula” will determine career success in the CIA and FBI. It requires more than learning the right curriculum to be successful in these organizations. Tracy explains that soft skills, like empathy, collaboration, listening, problem-solving, and not allowing preconceived notions to interfere with work, are critical in pursuing a career in the CIA or FBI. Tracy identifies as an introverted-extrovert person with a strong sense of curiosity, judgment, and confidence. Tracy seeks to ask questions to gain a better understanding of others and their situations. Medsider Radio: Learn from Medical Device and Medtech Thought Leaders
In this episode of Medsider Radio, we're catching up with Derek Herrera, who has an incredible story to share. He's a decorated Marine veteran who's turned a major combat injury into a mission to help other patients with spinal injuries. Derek is the founder of UroDev, originally Spinal Singularity, as well as Habit Camera, the first low-cost, wireless camera purpose-built for skin inspection and telehealth.UroDev is on the cusp of bringing its Intelliflow device to market, a product uniquely designed for spinal injury patients who have urology conditions like neurogenic bladder that require extensive catheter use. Today, Derek and I are going to chat about his journey from the military to the medical device space, and get into what he's learned about becoming a first-time entrepreneur with a big idea but not a lot of funding or experience. First, here's a bit more on Derek's background: He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served as a Marine Infantry and Special Operations Officer for over eight years. In 2014, he was medically retired due to combat injuries, and left paralyzed from the waist down. Since this injury, Derek has earned an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and founded both UroDev and Habit Camera. He also serves as President of the Board for the Marine Raider Foundation. Before we jump into the conversation, I wanted to mention a few things:If you're into learning from proven medtech and healthtech leaders, and want to know when new content and interviews go live, head over to Medsider.com and sign up for our free newsletter. You'll get access to gated articles, and lots of other interesting healthcare content. Second, if you want even more inside info from proven experts, think about a Medsider premium membership. We talk to experienced healthcare leaders about the nuts and bolts of running a business and bringing products to market. This is your place for valuable knowledge on specific topics like seed funding, prototyping, insurance reimbursement, and positioning a medtech startup for an exit.In addition to the entire back catalog of Medsider interviews over the past decade, Premium members get exclusive Ask Me Anything interviews and masterclasses with some of the world's most successful medtech founders and executives. Since making the premium memberships available, I've been pleasantly surprised at how many people have signed up. If you're interested, go to medsider.com/subscribe to learn more.Lastly, here's the link to the full interview with Derek if you'd rather read it instead.
