Influenced by Hollywood and his father's service in Vietnam, Plumlee joined the Oklahoma National Guard while still in high school. With the help of a local sheriff, he joined the Marines after high school in the years before 9/11. Deployed to Okinawa, Plumlee spent the months after 9/11 longing to get into the action but missing his opportunities. Completing training as a reconnaissance Marine, Plumlee eventually deployed to Iraq with 4th Force Reconnaissance Company in 2005 and again in 2008.On August 20, 2013 during a change of command ceremony on FOB Ghazni, Green Beret Earl Plumlee found himself facing a complex attack by a determined enemy force that had breached the perimeter and was approaching fast. Armed with his "super cool sniper rifle" and a side arm, MSG (then SFC) Plumlee took the fight to the enemy and miraculously survived nearly unscathed. This is the story of how MSG Plumlee and a handful of SOF warriors pushed back a devastating attack and the events that lead to MSG Plumlee being awarded the Medal of Honor.Support the show - https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=9LG48GC49TW38Website - www.zerolimitspodcast.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/zero.limits.podcast/?hl=en

Episode: 146 Donald Appleberry - Todays sponsor is Rentometer: https://www.frommilitarytomillionaire.com/rentometer - In today's episode, tune in to your host David Pere as he's joined with guest Donald Appleberry. With experience and stories, listen to Donald as he talks about the standards you need to look into when working with a real estate agent, his experience as a real estate investor with wholesale, and what he's got to say about VA Loans that people need to hear about. In a deal, the hesitation towards VA Loans is primarily because of the requirements and limitations that come with it. Donald has come to find this the biggest and most common misunderstanding regarding VA Loans, aside from the notion that VA Loans are complex and not quick to close. In this exchange, Donald argues these connotations. For Donald, getting hold of a real estate agent license isn't enough and doesn't apply anything when choosing agents to rely on in a deal. An agent needs to be active full-time and have skin in the game. David also adds, trusting an agent just because their licensed is almost comparable to trusting your 10-year old child with the keys to your Ferrari. Donald believes – just because someone is licensed – doesn't mean they're a professional. About Donald Appleberry: Donald enlisted as an 0321 Reconnaissance Man in 2014 and spent over 2 years in Bravo Company on the Free Fall Team as the team medic. After deploying, Donald moved into Force Reconnaissance Company and filled the Billet of a Team Leader for almost 18 months. During this time, he was furthering his investing knowledge and understanding and has started his Real Estate licensing process, investing in single-family homes. Donald is currently looking into starting a non-profit company as well. Donald is a part of the Discher real estate group in San Diego, CA. Specializing in VA home loans and listing service members' properties. They make sure to squeeze every benefit out of the VA loan and ensure the service member is set up for success and happiness in their new home. He has helped multiple members in the military buy investment properties and walked them through how to manage them correctly, both in state and out of state. It's a proven system that outpaces any other investment opportunity that has the same amount of risk. Outline of the episode: [04:08] Wholesale: The Lowest Hanging Fruit. [09:24] The business of Chinese investors. [14:04] Conduct due diligence on your partner in a purchase. [18:47] Rates aren't your end-all and be-all. [25:58] On not overpromising and under-delivering. [32:41] Not meeting the 1% Rule doesn't necessarily make property [39:21] It's usually not about the VA Loan. [43:34] The misconceptions about being a Real Estate Agent. [51:43] The adjustments you make to better serve your buyers. [58:22] On waiving appraisals in VA Loans. Jimi talks about the early days of CrossFit and gives his secrets for building and shepherding communities particularly as part of a growing business.  Episode 024 is part two of Jason & Rich’s conversation with Jimi Letchford who wound up at the launch of the rocket ship that became CrossFit International. Episode 023 follows Jimi’s first career in the Marine Corps. This part picks up where they left off, his discovery of CrossFit before separating (the first time), through his continued life of service as a trainer, affiliate and corporate type at HQ.  Jimi talks about the unique, hands-off, grassroots franchise business model which relies so much on a quality product with communities built around real meaning. Jimi shares his struggles in the traditional corporate world and his insights as a “behind the scenes guy” building relationships and getting back through giving.  Of note, we recorded this episode prior to the former CrossFit CEO’s remarks that (rightfully so) led to his resignation. Our focus in this conversation is to talk about how Jimi helped empower and grow the CrossFit community from the very earliest days. Jimi is a father of 5, Naval Academy Graduate (class of 2003) and has re-enlisted in the USMC reserves at 4th Force Reconnaissance Company based out of California.  Links: Jimi Letchford Learn more about GORUCK  Glorious Professionals podcast website

Episode 023 is Part One of Jimi Letchford’s conversation with Jason and Rich about his life in service. Jimi is the former Director of CrossFit International and a Marine Infantry Officer. This part focuses on Jimi’s early life and then career in the military. He explains how wrestling and a well-placed jet led to a single-minded focus on the Naval Academy, and then injury derailed his dreams of becoming a SEAL and a chance meeting turned his focus to the Marine Corps and becoming a Lieutenant in the Infantry and tip of the spear in Iraq. Hear about his 9/11 story, training and mentors, pre-deployment wedding, a rather harrowing “wake-up call” to stay vigilant, loss, getting news about his first daughter’s birth while in Iraq, and how the “gung-ho” award winner uses his military lessons and training to approach leadership through giving and subordinate leadership. Jimi is a father of 5, Naval Academy Graduate, class of 2003, and was a friend of Travis Manion’s, whose family carries on their son’s legacy at the Travis Manion Foundation. He is currently the in the reserves at 4th Force Reconnaissance Company based out of California. Episode 024 (Part 2 of this conversation) is focused on Jimi’s work for CrossFit creating strong community bonds in addition to building the brand globally.  Links: Jimi Letchford The Marine Corps Values The Travis Manion Foundation Abu Ghraib and “Route Michigan” (satellite) Cpl. Mike Strahle of Westerville: U.S. Marines' Lima Company, Iraq War

Mike Strahle, 34, of Westerville served in the Iraq War in 2005 with the Marine Corps' Columbus-based Company L (known as Lima Company), 3rd Battalion, 25th Regiment, as part of Regimental Combat Team 2. Strahle was with the unit when it conducted anti-insurgency operations in Iraq's Al Anbar province along the Syrian border and later helped launch Operation Matador (the Battle of Al Qaim) on May 8, 2005. Strahle returned to the United States with injuries he had sustained when the vehicle he was riding in was hit by a roadside bomb May 11, 2005. He is the executive director of the Eyes of Freedom, a traveling exhibit of portraits, painted by then-Ohio artist Anita Miller, depicting the 22 Marines and one Navy corpsman who died in Iraq with Lima Company. The exhibit also includes a bronze sculpture, "The Silent Battle," which characterizes the struggle of veterans adapting to civilian life. Strahle said he knew those who died in Iraq while serving with Lima. He was born and raised in Bryan and graduated from Bryan High School in 2003. His interest in the military was motivated by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and "the gut feeling of helplessness when you're seeing the United States attacked in a way that hadn't happened in my lifetime." He said he was interested in becoming an officer and joined the ROTC program at Ohio State University. "They made it sound like my ... officer career would be ... much better suited if I had some enlistment time under my belt first," he said. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve when he was "young and still pretty angry about 9/11." Lima preceded its Iraq deployment with two months in California, training in security, surveillance and urban operations and getting used to a hot climate. Upon arriving in Iraq, the unit conducted a number of missions in cities, he said. "We were getting intelligence from any number of sources over there where these insurgents were moving," he said. "An insurgent tactic at the time was to take over part of a city or a few houses on a block" while trying to avoid the Marines, he said. During Lima's operations -- many conducted at night -- insurgents would engage the Marines or flee and then would be engaged or rounded up, he said. "That was the pace early on. ... We were always busy," he said. "But Operation Matador was completely different." The Marines had intelligence about major strongholds in certain cities, and Matador would be a large offensive task force, he said. Lima was prepared "for pretty much the whole city to be angry with us ... or to be prepared for our arrival." The unit began mobilizing before sunrise May 8, "engaging in fairly heavy combat most of the day," with a few men injured by machine guns or hand grenades, he said. During what probably would have been the last house clearing of the day, Cpl. Dustin Derga and Sgt. Anthony Goodwin were killed. Lance Cpl. Nicholas Erdy, who was killed later in the deployment, "performed amazingly" and pulled several wounded men from the house before it was hit by an Air Force bomb, Strahle said. Derga, Strahle said, was a team leader. "He was a very close friend of mine and one of the funniest guys in the platoon," he said. But "when things would go wrong, he had this uncanny ability to flip a switch" and change from "the class clown" to a "damn fine Marine," he said. Derga was killed by machine-gun fire while approaching the house, Strahle said. Several tank rounds were fired into the house before Goodwin took a team inside, Strahle said. The insurgents had prepared a dug-in fortified area inside, Strahle said, and while the tank rounds probably left the insurgents "blind, deaf and dumb," they were still alive. From a lower level, he said, "they opened up fire right through the floor," killing Goodwin and injuring two or three others. Goodwin was a veteran of the Marines' 1st Force Reconnaissance Company, Strahle said, and was "the one to teach us we really didn't know anything and we needed to listen up." Goodwin's capability and effectiveness as a leader led officers to give his unit several offensive tasks, Strahle said. "We had the intelligence, and we knew that this whole city was basically bad guys," Strahle said. "We were ordered to protect the civilian population there as best we could, and we did. We did a phenomenal job." On May 11, Strahle was riding in an assault amphibious vehicle second or third in line in a convoy. The AAVs, which were fully tracked amphibious landing vehicles, had no windows, so a ceiling hatch was opened to allow three or four Marines to stand on a bench with their heads and chests outside the hatch to improve observation of the surrounding area. Strahle was standing in the open hatch when an improvised explosive device "blew up right under my feet," he said. The blast killed six of the 16 or 17 on board and threw Strahle into the air. He landed face first in a ditch and began to bandage his injured stomach after failing to find his missing gun. The unit's Navy corpsmen, "who were asked to do a lot with very little, ... hands down, they saved my life," he said. With chest, leg and intestinal injuries, Strahle was put on an Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter 20 minutes after the explosion. He underwent surgeries in Germany before being transferred to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where his family was waiting for him. On Aug. 3, 2005, 14 men with Lima were killed by a roadside bomb. The effect of that incident, Strahle said, "rang all the way up to military generals and the president." The Marines' AAVs had no protection from explosions beneath the vehicle, he said, but the already-developed MRAP (mine-resistant ambush-protected) vehicles did. The military expanded its use of MRAPs and began to rely more on helicopters to move troops between cities, despite the higher costs, he said. "Fourteen guys had to pass to just to kind of put an exclamation point on the problem," he said. Upon Lima's return to Columbus in October 2005, the unit received an enthusiastic welcome. Thousands of residents lined Hamilton Road, waving rain-dampened signs and cheering as Lima's motorcade traveled from what was then Port Columbus International Airport to Rickenbacker International Airport. Strahle said he received a communitywide welcome home when he returned to Bryan. He had a coaching job and later worked at JPMorgan Chase & Co. but soon realized he was drinking too much. Miller debuted her Eyes of Freedom exhibit -- life-size portraits of Lima's fallen -- in 2008 at the Ohio Statehouse. In 2011, Strahle asked her if the portraits could be displayed at a Pickerington fundraiser honoring Derga. Previously, the exhibit was on display for several months at a time, each at a different site. With Strahle's involvement after the Pickerington event, the Eyes of Freedom became a traveling display that since has made nearly 300 stops around the U.S. The display has a healing effect on all veterans, he said, including those from the Vietnam War. "The Silent Battle" sculpture depicts the postservice struggles of veterans and honors those lost to suicide, he said. Otherwise, "they're not treated the same way. They're not memorialized the same way," he said. Strahle, who retired from the Marines in 2007, said veterans who are struggling to adjust to civilian life should reach out to other veterans for support. "As soon as I got involved with Eyes of Freedom, it just kind of made it better," he said. Strahle's decorations include the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals and the Armed Services Reserve Medal. From Ironman, Everest, and Afghanistan to MBA, CEO, and Entrepreneur. Born and raised in Thompson, CT, Eric Kapitulik attended at the US Naval Academy, where he was a four-year varsity letter player on the Division I Lacrosse team. Graduating in 1995, Eric went on to serve in the US Marine Corps as both an Infantry Officer and Special Operations Officer with 1st Force Reconnaissance Company, 1st Marine Division. As a Platoon Commander, Eric led a team of 20 covert operations specialists on numerous Special Forces-related missions, including long-range reconnaissance patrols, hostage rescues, high-altitude jump exercises, ship takeovers and gas-oil platform takedowns. In 1999, during a routine training mission, Eric and his platoon were in a helicopter crash that resulted in the death of seven Marines. In response to this tragedy, Eric created the Force Reconnaissance Scholarship Fund to benefit the children of his fallen men. In order to raise money for the fund, he has participated in eight Ironman Triathlons, The Canadian Death Race Ultramarathon, The Eco-Challenge, and The American Birkebeiner Ski Marathon. Eric has also summited five of the Seven Summits including Mount Everest. Eric left active duty after eight years of service and received his MBA from the University of Chicago. He founded The Program in 2008 with the goal of providing both athletic and corporate teams with the best leadership development and team building services in the country. You’re working hard and qualified for what you do but you aren’t getting what you want. You have plans on getting to the C-suite or launching a business but ultimate success seems as far away today as ever. You’re at the right place because you can get there from here. And I can help. Who I Am I’m a speaker, coach, and former Division I All-American wrestler that helps motivated former athletes to reach their full potential by getting clarity on what they really want and taking aggressive action to lead their ideal life not just despite their prior failures but because of them. I’m a husband and father of four. And I’m a serial entrepreneur. I’ve launched multiple successful businesses as well as the obligatory failed one. I’ve been the executive director of a non-profit and have raised millions of dollars. I’ve worked in sales. I’ve even been a Division I head coach. While I was born in a blue-collar home I have spent my life surrounded by Olympians, CEO’s and millionaires. Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” I’ve been lucky. I’ve learned the habits of successful people and guess what. You’re just like them. I know because I know your type. You’re programmed for hard work, which is a prerequisite for success, but you’ve never been shown how to use what you know to create the life you want with the tools you have. I will show you how. Why You Are Here You've worked hard to achieve greatness. You’ve set goals and maybe even set records. You’ve definitely failed and you’ve at some point found yourself questioning if you were on the right track. You need to understand this: You are far more prepared to succeed than those who’ve not tried, competed, struggled and overcome like you have. That’s the value of your education as someone who aims high. You are prepared to be as successful as your wildest dreams will allow. Here I will teach you, with the help of brilliant minds that have been shaped by failure, struggle, and adversity, to be who you want to be. I sense that you want this because you have read this far.
