Kate Bryan of 1 Girl Revolution felt her voice wasn't represented when she read an article in the Washington Post about feminism. Kate wrote a response to the article entitled, "I'm a 32-year-old virgin, and I'm living the feminist dream." Unexpectedly, it went viral. Kate had Job's Syndrome as a child, a rare syndrome that causes skin infections. She was bullied in grade school and wanted to be "invisible." Yet, "the girl inside" Kate is spunky and vibrant. Kate learned to be who God created her to be and how to use her voice to stand up and tell her story. Kate also discovered her call to help others to use their voices too. Kate created 1 Girl Revolution, a multimedia platform and podcast that highlights the stories of everyday women who are changing the world.

TALK ART LIVE in London!!! Join the inimitable hosts of Talk Art, Robert Diament and Russell Tovey for a live podcast recording as they interview Kate Bryan.Kate Bryan is Global Head of Collections at Soho House and author of a new book about artists that died too young, 'Bright Stars'. Recorded at Soho House White City in front of a sold out live audience, they cover big names such as Vincent Van Gogh, Jean Michel Basquiat and shine a light on lesser known talents like Khadija Saye, Paula Modersohn Becker and Amrita Sher Gil.In 'Bright Stars', Kate Bryan examines the lives and legacies of 30 great artists who died too young, celebrating their inspirational stories and extraordinary talent. Some of the world's greatest and most-loved artists died under the age of forty. But how did they turn relatively short careers into such long legacies? What drove them to create, against all the odds? And how can we use these stories to re-evaluate artists lost to the shadows, or whose legacies are not yet secured? Most artists have decades to hone their craft, win over the critics and forge their reputation, but that's not the case for the artists in this book. Art heavyweights Vincent van Gogh and Jean-Michel Basquiat have been mythologised, with their early deaths playing a key role in their posthumous fame. Others, such as Aubrey Beardsley and Noah Davis, were driven to create, knowing their time was limited. For some, premature death, compounded by gender and racial injustice, meant being left out of the history books – as was the case with Amrita Sher-Gil, Charlotte Salomon and Pauline Boty, now championed by Kate Bryan in this important re-appraisal. And, as Caravaggio and Vermeer's stories show us, it can take centuries for forgotten artists to be given the recognition they truly deserve. With each artist comes a unique and often surprising story about how lives full of talent and tragedy were turned into brilliant legacies that still influence and inspire us today. This is a celebration of talent so great it shines on. Beautifully illustrated by Anna Higgie with portraits of the artists, as well as reproductions of some of their most famous works, this important and timely work makes a crucial contribution to our understanding of the lives of some of the most talented artists throughout history.Kate Bryan is an arts broadcaster, curator, mentor and writer. Kate Bryan is from Detroit, MI and the CEO of 1 Girl Revolution. Her passion is helping women share their authentic stories. Today she shares about her early experiences with bullying and being silenced. That journey led her to create 1 Girl Revolution in order to empower other women to share their voices, because there are so many stories that the media isn't telling. Women aren't given a platform often enough, to tell their stories in an authentic way. Kate points out that so often, not only are we silenced by others, but sometimes we are our own worst enemies. We silence ourselves with our limiting beliefs and our self-doubt. A favorite quote shared: “I was born to do this.” -Joan of Arc Kate was born with a really rare immune deficiency called Job's Syndrome. Along with sickness and pain, it drew bullying when she was young. She quickly morphed from a little girl that had all kinds of ideas and stories to tell, to a silent “shrinking violet” trying desperately to not draw attention to herself. She eventually found herself and her courage, but still remembers those moments when she knew the pain of feeling invisible and what it feels like to have no voice or to be silenced. And that's why she cares so much about women and their stories. Kate advises to begin with courage. Do the things that your intuition and inner knowing tells you. You may not necessarily see the path way forward, but you just have to act on things as they come your way instead of just sitting and thinking about it, which a lot of us can be guilty of. Kate also shared a favorite habit- keeping a notebook around her where she can write an idea, a story or something that sparks an idea and it could be a big crazy dream. Write it down because you never know when you're going to be able to go back to that or you never know when you might have the resources. She advises to create a space to dream and think about things. Quiet your mind and just be who you were created to be, you have to tune in to that inspiration, you can't do that when you're super busy. Kate encourages everyone - if you have a dream, go for it! You just have to trust yourself, and do the work. Whatever your thing is, find it and chase it and don't be afraid. Recently, Kate and 1 Girl Revolution hit 100 episodes of the 1 Girl Revolution podcast (which is available on Apple podcasts, Spotify, and wherever you listen to podcasts) and released a short documentary featuring incarcerated women at Cook County Jail, called "The Girl Inside." Being of mixed race (Mother is Kenyan and Father British) and having been brought up a Muslim, Sarah has witnessed bigotry and discrimination from various directions, be it racial, cultural, sexual, etc.   Since winning the New Sensations award in 2007, straight out of University, she has developed an ingenious tool to highlight and confront the aforementioned bigotry and discrimination; Sarah applies the perfect amount of satirical humour into her work, that the viewer is forced, before they realise it, to take a definite political or cultural stance. If you are not laughing with her, you are laughing at yourself, from the other side of the fence.   In 2015 Sarah won a Sky Arts Scholarship to produce a new body of work and in 2020 [mid-pandemic], teamed up with Sky Arts to break new ground and produce six 10-minute Sitcom episodes, which, in real time, cumulate to a solo show named Sarah Maple’s Nazi Sexy Shark Show at the Jealous East Gallery, curated by Kate Bryan.   For more information on Sarah Maple and his work go to www.sarahmaple.com For full line up of confirmed artists go to https://www. ministryofarts.org Email: ministryofartsorg@gmail.com   Social Media: @ministryofartsorg

Harte's use of symbolism, as well as hidden and fractured images, draw the onlooker into multilayered portals of storytelling. Although at times seemingly raw, Harte challenges the onlooker to lean in and fully immerse ones self, with an open heart. Cherie's work has been celebrated in ads for Saatchi Art and was recently named “Must See Artist” at “The Other Art Fair”, by Rebecca Wilson Chief Curator and Vice President of Art Advisory at Saatchi Art (Los Angeles March 2019). And our hope is that we can inspire and empower every woman to see her value, her purpose, and her power – and recognize that she has the power to change the world through her life. This week, we speak with Kate Bryan, pro-life feminist, communications strategist, speaker, and writer. In this podcast, Marcellino and Kate talk about the call we have as creatives to challenge the culture and stand up for our core values and beliefs. They discuss the importance of being firm in one’s identity so as not to react to controversy out of wounds or fear, but to respond with love. Both Marcellino and Kate share stories of times they’ve had to stand up against the tide for their own beliefs - including the time Marcellino wrote a controversial blog post while in college and the time Kate called out the leadership of the Women’s March for not letting pro-life women participate. They also discuss the importance of community and solidarity in standing for your convictions, as well as the very real fear we all have of not belonging when we are called to stand up against what may be popular.

Kate Bryan returns this week to talk about Saturday's March for Our Lives rally, millennials' political party affiliations (or lack thereof) and movies. Acknowledging a Broken World Matthias talks about his pastor's thoughtful and apolitical comments on the March for Our Lives, and he and Kate discuss a more nuanced angle on the gun control rally: how it exposes our cultural problems and the brokenness of the world we live in. Millennials Going Rogue? The Pew Research Center recently released this startling statistic: The number of millennial women who identify as Democrat or lean Democrat has jumped from 56 percent to 70 percent in only four years. Jordan isn't a bit surprised at this trend, but she also doesn't think Democrats are guaranteed that vote forever since millennials don't have the same loyalty to party branding that their parents did. We discuss the Obama campaign's effect on millennials and their cynicism toward politicians. Nothing New in Hollywood We ask Kate, a fellow movie fan, to weigh in on the discussion of violence in movies and specifically, violence toward women. Do you need to portray violence to tell a story? At what point are we simply glorifying and celebrating violence in say, a Quentin Tarantino fashion? We talk about Uma Thurman's account of filming "Kill Bill" and (according to her) sustaining long-term injuries under Tarantino's direction as well as the tragic story of Taylor Hickson, a young actress who was pressured to bang on a glass window during filming and sustained a permanent facial scar after the glass broke. Terrible Opinions Jordan: Being sick as an adult is awesome. Matthias: Churches need to tell Christians to stop worshipping the idol of accomplishment. Kate: I now love having my phone in black and white.

Kate Bryan returned to the show this week to talk about Harvey Weinstein, Roy Moore, the avalanche of sexual misconduct allegations that are disrupting the entertainment industry and the world of politics – and for some pop culture, the new Taylor Swift album. Will the stores about Moore affect his Senate campaign in Alabama? And what made the Weinstein story different when people haven’t cared before about sexual harassment and assault in Hollywood? Terrible Opinions Kate: I hated Taylor Swift’s new album and here’s why. Jordan: Taylor Swift’s initial singles for her albums aren’t great – I didn’t love “Look What You Made Me Do” but I loved “Reputation.” Matthias: I relate more to progressive Christians who have socialist views and strive to be faithful believers than to conservative Christians who embrace the Trump crowd. Weinstein and Hollywood history We discuss the allegations against film mogul Harvey Weinstein that sparked a revolution in Hollywood, the music industry and politics to expose serial predators. Decades of abuse in the entertainment industry are finally coming to light – but what made this story about Weinstein different? We analyze the political moment, the timing and the research that went into exposing Weinstein’s years of allegedly exploiting and assaulting young actresses. Matthias asks an important question: How can these abusers in entertainment, politics and all of society go about making restitution?

Kate Bryan joined us this week to talk about horror movies, symbolism and why "It" was way better than "Mother!"  Terrible Opinions:  Matthias: People who make purportedly professional TV appearances to talk about the Constitution should act like adults. Apparently this is now a terrible opinion.  Jordan: Movie trailers should be abolished because they spoil the whole story. They are also a terrible business model because so many of them give away the movie for free.  Kate: Pumpkin spice is unnecessary in your latte. "Just have a coffee or don't have a coffee." Also, we need more good PR for candy corn because it's the best.  "A very empty film"  Kate and Jordan attempt to analyze "Mother!" The Darren Aronofsky film starring Jennifer Lawrence left a lot of viewers perplexed after seeing it this weekend. To give us a baseline for horror movies, Kate contrasts "Mother!" and "It" since one followed horror movie structure and the other used horror elements but wasn't a true film of the genre. Matthias talks about monster movies, a favorite type of horror, and says "The Thing" is a must-watch. We also discuss Aronofsky films in general, with Matthias praising "Noah" and Jordan contrasting "Mother!" and "Black Swan." Kate talks about why horror films challenge who we are as people.

The Paradox team discusses a very important cultural event: the Netflix revival of "Gilmore Girls" (warning: MAJOR spoilers for "A Year in the Life"). D.C. writer and communications star Kate Bryan joined Jordan and Matthias to talk about what we loved, what we hated, and why two of the show's big storylines were redemptive and satisfying and one was definitely not (ahem, Rory). Why "Gilmore Girls" and what the heck is up with Rory? Jordan explains why we wanted to devote a podcast episode to "Gilmore Girls." Kate starts off our analysis with her theory that a certain Gilmore girl is a hot mess in "A Year in the Life" because creator Amy Sherman-Palladino originally envisioned this story for a 22-year-old Rory. Are men important in Gilmore world? (Spoiler: Yes) We contrast how male and female characters are depicted on the show. We talk some about the feminism of "Gilmore Girls" and Lorelai's powerful storyline as a single mom building her own life to make things better for her daughter. While the show is female-focused, men are important characters as well, so we take a look at individual male characters and analyze important connections like Rory's relationship with her father and Lorelai's relationship with Luke. "My ancestors came over on the Mayflower." Matthias kicks off a discussion of class tension on "Gilmore Girls" with an interesting point from @AllahPundit, who recently tweeted that the show is a battle between Lorelai and Emily over which class Rory should be part of. https://twitter.com/allahpundit/status/812392609603874816 Predictions We wrap up with predictions about whether or not Netflix will continue with another season of "A Year in the Life," which then morphs into expectations/fears/hopes for what would happen. Matthias predicts that there won't be another season. Kate hopes that Rory finds success with her book and that the baby is a boy. We try to predict exactly when Rory and Jess will get together.
