Judith and Nicola brainstorm their answers with some discomfort – and their answers include philanthropy for self-employed single women including the entrepreneurs bank and a big hilltop house in Stoupa. In The Show It was a week of frustrating niggles for Nicola, and also a scary drive to Brighton and back at night. She’s been out hardly at all and is having to make a serious effort at reintroducing walking 5,000 steps a day. Judith went on a surprise trip to Manchester for a long weekend with her friend Susie, her sister-in- law has sailed through a hip replacement operation and Judith is on the move 48 hours sooner than anticipated so completely trusting in life to house her for two days between homes. Five years ago I would have laughed if you had suggested meditation could help my business but I've gradually become a convert. This week I share my journey and recommend some specific guided meditations that help me enormously. As I did my 10 minute meditation this morning, Bitcoin went up so I got out of a trade in profit and a new client enquiry came in. Make of that what you will! Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. On the blog Resistance Visualisation What Does Success Mean To You What To Do With Your Goals Beating Resistance - Tip 1 Beating Resistance - Tip 2 What You Focus On Increases What It's Really Like To Live & Work Abroad Dust and Doldrums Prefer to read? Hi everyone, it's Nicola here and all the stars have aligned for me to be able to talk to you this week. Basically the camera's charged up, my fringe isn't looking too bad. I've got something to say, which is always a plus. It's a not very sunny day in Stoupa today, which means that it's quite quiet around here. Everyone's, I don't know, off doing excursions I expect. 'Cause they can't all go down the beach. You can probably hear the cicadas in the background. They never shut up, once it gets to a certain temperature. Anyway, no water, that's the thing. But it doesn't stop me. I've got internet intermittently, but no water today because they're probably trying to conserve it 'til everyone comes home wanting a shower later on. Anyway, these are the things that are sent to try us. Living and working abroad. I like it anyway. Let's get on with the show, shall we? So this week I want to talk to you about the power of meditation. Now if you'd have said to me, even four of five years ago, that I'd be meditating regularly, I would have laughed at you. Because I'm not that kind of person. I thought it was a little bit wooley and waffley and yes, it probably made you feel a bit better. A bit rested perhaps, especially if you fell asleep. But I didn't really see what the point of it was. I tried it a few times, quite pleasant. Didn't really do anything. Then I started seeing all these scientific reports that actually prove the power of meditation. I'm nothing if not swayed by a bit of scientific proof. So I started to use meditation myself. I started with a bit of Paul McKenna. Like his voice. He's got some really nice guided meditations I really enjoyed. Yes, it was perfectly pleasant and I suspected it was doing me some good, in my brain somewhere that I couldn't tell the effects of. Yeah so then what happened, then Steve died and I was looking for anything to make myself feel better. Even temporarily. I started listening to a Mind Value Meditation, by Vishen Lakhiani, called The 6 Phase Meditation. I really enjoyed that. It was really positive visualisation. It enabled me to start thinking about what life would be like once I got over the grieving period and what I wanted my life to be looking like later on. One of the things about grieving is you think you're never going to come out of it and having a lifeline to cling on to, by power of guided meditation, about what I wanted my life to be like in the future. It really was a lifeline. It really did help and it actually made me feel better in the moment as well and the days I meditated, I felt better. Especially if I did it in the morning. 'Cause I was less likely to fall asleep then. Then I definitely felt stronger, more calm, more uplifted, more able to cope. So I've done that for now, well it must be three years, two and a half years anyway. Recently, Judith has introduced me to something a little bit wacky but I would like to recommend it to you, because it's non-denominational. She doesn't talk about religion as such. It talks about the power of the universe. I'm perfectly able to cope with that, even as a staunch atheist that I am.
Nicola was experiencing a difficult and confusing week and no sooner had she reached out to Judith for some help than things began to improve. In The Show It has been a cooler week in Stoupa and all her guests are gone, but Nicola’s internet is still not fixed which has made it difficult for her to do everything she wants to online and in her business. And she’s still without a cleaner. Judith has found Suffolk to be full of bug perils (tiny wasps and big fat mozzies), and also surprisingly social with two outings in six days. That’s a lot for her. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? Judith really enjoyed an outing with a long-time colleague in the Waitrose café at Sudbury (!) and Nicola couldn’t find anything whatsoever to discuss in this section this week, which she explains later. Focus Of The Week Nicola was experiencing a difficult and confusing week and no sooner had she reached out to Judith for some help than things began to improve. She’s had some challenges but really couldn’t work out what to do about them. Judith and she debate the bigger issue and try to draw some conclusions and what, if anything, is to be done. Start with simplifying the problem, and testing solutions one at a time. LISTEN HERE TO OWN IT #237 | Dust and Doldrums Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Doldrums and Judith picks Language. Project Updates Nicola mentions podcast download numbers, generally up, her big project is still on after she tickled the other side into a timely response, no progress on her audio book but she’s invested in some Instagram influencer marketing with gratifying early results in terms of follower numbers. Who Or What’s Impressed Nicola enjoyed Ryan Levesque’s interview with James Schramko about RL’s new book Choose. Judith enjoyed Howard Jacobson on R4’s Point of View, talking about The Language of Leaving. *** Join our free Facebook Group for Own It! the Podcast and talk back to us about what you hear in the show. When it works, it works great but when it goes wrong...well, it can be a little frustrating to say the least! This week I have three major obstacles to overcome but there are compensations.... it's all about keeping a sense of perspective! Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. On the blog Resistance Visualisation What Does Success Mean To You What To Do With Your Goals Beating Resistance - Tip 1 Beating Resistance - Tip 2 What You Focus On Increases Do Your Feelings Control You? Property as a Business Prefer to read? Good morning, it's Nicola here, and today I am coming to you, not live, from Sicky's, one of my favourite haunts in Stoupa. I'm not live because the internet is not good enough either here or next door. And the reason I'm down here even talking to you at all is because my internet at home is not working. It's not been working since Thursday and I've been trying to ring Cosmote, our local telephone providers. And they haven't been picking up at all. So, it's been a little bit frustrating. Yesterday, I was ringing them four a good 4 hours on and off solidly. And it turns out it was a Greek bank holiday and they make have well said that on their recorded announcement, but of course, I don't understand that much Greek. So, I couldn't understand that. Anyway, so I gave up and came down the beach in the end and then went to a party in the evening and tried again this morning at 7 o'clock, 8 o'clock and 9 o'clock. 9 o'clock I got through. The reason I'm telling you all this is because when you're living and working abroad everybody does things differently and you have to be ready to roll with the punches and be a bit flexible. I'm going to lean my elbow on there so I'm not quite as wobbly. It's all about flexibility this week. It's all about what to do when you can't do anything. There's been three reasons why I haven't been able to do anything this week. So, let's get on with the show shall we. Today, I want to talk to you about what it's really like to live and work abroad. Obviously, it's a fabulous day. Let me just show you what I'm looking at today. It's awesome. It's hot. Because you can tell I've caught the sun yesterday. And I have to put factor 30 on because it really is very hot and sunny. But things go wrong, you know. I've got fantastic super fast broadband speed. It works generally 99 percent of the time absolutely fine. But on Thursday night, it decided to go off. It got weaker and weaker and it went and I realised something was seriously wrong when I tried to upload an audio that should've 2 or 3 minutes and it said it was going to take 5 to 7 hours. So, I thought something's wrong here but I didn't know what. So, I started ringing cause the houses in the name of my landlord. I have to get them to ring first then they said that Cosmote said they had to be there. So then it was back onto me. Now you can only ring Cosmote if you have a Greek mobile phone. Now, I have a Greek sim for my mobile but I didn't have a voucher on it. It'd run out. So I ran down to get a voucher and then we were getting ready to call Cosmote and there was just not answer. So this was Monday morning we couldn't work out what was going on. Turns out it was a national election on Sunday and everybody had a bank holiday. They gave them a bank holiday for the next day. So I was trying till lunchtime for four hours on and off and couldn't get through. There was just nobody answering. I got through to someone on sales and then she put me through to technical, but she didn't tell me that technical was shut. Perhaps she didn't know. Then now I've come, I've managed to get through this morning. I was doing it a 7, I was ringing at 8, I was ringing at 9 and there is an option to speak English so I went through to them.

Nicola's oldest best friend is visiting Stoupa and that, and what she's learning about trading currencies is making her reflect on how, most of her life, she's been at the mercy of her feelings. Now, she's really 'getting' what she tried to teach her children, that 'this too will pass'. Whether you are building a career, building a business, trading the stockmarket, making a deal or just living your life, you have to get a grip of your feelings. You'll be much happier when you can do that! Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. On the blog Resistance Visualisation What Does Success Mean To You What To Do With Your Goals Beating Resistance - Tip 1 Beating Resistance - Tip 2 What You Focus On Increases White Labelling Your Courses Bigger Thinking Prefer to read? Well, welcome back to the Vzine. It's Nicola here and it's Sunday morning. I'm a bit late recording this because I've had my best friend Kim staying in Stoupa for the last week with her partner Jeremy. It's been great fun to catch up with them. They've fallen in love with the place as everybody does and now Kim's daughters are arriving today along with an old friend Jane and a friend of one of her daughters so it's going to be a girls' week for the next week. So I'm not anticipating much work getting done which is lucky that I've got it set up so that my VA can do a lot of the heavy lifting for me this week. What else have I been up to? I've been swimming everyday because it's been super hot here, not as bad as Italy and France but pretty hot nonetheless. And it's climbing to 37 degrees on Thursday so lots of swimming to be heard this week, that's for sure. Sarah's still here. My sister's staying next door which is nice 'cause that's company yet we have our own places so that's very cool. This week has been an exciting week on the cryptocurrency trading. I've made quite a lot of money this week. And it's wonderful to finally have learned something that I've always been interested in and I've been on many courses for but I haven't managed to grasp yet until recently and I've been doing that by watching the daily, once every three days videos by a guy called Charting Man Dan. If you're at all interested in trading anything really, he's very good at teaching you how to read the technical analysis charts of shares going up and down. He's called The Chart Guys so if you looked for him on YouTube, you'll find him under The Chart Guys and I highly recommend him, he's fantastic. So let's get over the show, shall we? So this week, I wanted to quickly talk to you about feelings. I'm learning to trade cryptocurrencies which is like trading the stock markets, it's a similar kind of thing. It's interesting because when you start to learn to trade, one of the things that you learn is that the markets are driven by greed and fear and they talk about that there's a bull stampeding that way and there's bears stampeding that way and there's buffaloes stampeding along when the market is going sideways and it's all about people's feelings and emotions. So you have to really get to grips with those if you're going to be a successful trader because the whole point of being a successful trader is to buy when the markets dip and sell when the markets are going up which is absolutely 100% opposite to what you want to do. If you've got ownership of a stock or a crypto and it's going up, you naturally want to hang on to it. But what you've got to do is set a target for that and then get out of it just before the top. Now, you can only do that if you're not being gripped by emotion and that you're trading according to a strategy that you created based on looking at the charts. So that's been a really interesting experience. The other thing that's been making me think a lot about feelings is because my friend Kim is in Sto...
After last week’s show where she suggested to Judith she should immortalise her sayings and testimonials on t-shirts, Nicola had a brainwave over the weekend and turn that round on to her own opportunities… In The Show Nicola has enjoyed a lovely summer week in Stoupa, helping a local business set up their Facebook Page, swimming most days and a wonderful night out with live music and Greek dancing. She’s also had a dream about she and Judith doing a big gig together with 800 attendees in a darkened room which Judith saw as Own It! LIVE. Judith has become the Wasp Whisperer, enjoyed frantic Monday, visited a sick friend on Tuesday, made it to the local beautician on Wednesday, is expecting the hairdresser on Thursday and a three client calls before a well-deserved Friday off. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? Judith’s received a letter from America from a would-be client who enjoyed her book and is missing her newsletter. She’s an artist who offered to send her a gift of some Angel Warrior cards from her Etsy Shop. Nicola’s had a brainwave about how to monetise her Stoupa Life group which she goes on to describe in Focus of the Week. Focus Of The Week After last week’s show where she suggested to Judith she should immortalise her sayings and testimonials on t-shirts, Nicola had a brainwave over the weekend and turn that round on to her own opportunities, namely how to monetise her Stoupa Life Facebook group with #StoupaLife and StoupaLifeShop.com. She’s created her first simple range and talks the listeners through choosing between Print on Demand service providers and why she picked Etsy over Shopify and Woo Commerce. Words Of The Week Nicola chooses PoD (print on demand) and Judith picks Precipitation. Project Updates Nicola has been asked by Audible to re-render her recordings due to overly long pauses at the start and end of each chapter and Judith talks about whether or not Own It! should take August off this year, given that she knows Nicola doesn’t enjoy a hiatus. Louise Fletcher is an artist who, against her own better judgement, came to London to participate in a somewhat woo woo workshop put on by fellow artist Alice Sheridan, and Georgina Noel.. In The Show Summer has arrived in Stoupa and so has Nicola’s sister, Sarah, so there’s been lots of beach time, tavernas and book swaps as the tourist season gets well and truly underway. Nicola is planning her own travel to Dublin in August and for her daughter Phoebe to come back with her for a week on the beach after that trip. Conversely, it has been very rainy for Judith in England, lots of water coming out of the sky and none out of the taps as she found herself in the middle of a water disaster story trending on Twitter. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? Judith really enjoyed recording four more listener guests last Friday, particularly meeting today’s LG who had been a self-confessed silent lurker until stepping up to talk to Own It! And also the fury expressed by another LG because fury denotes passion and passion gets things done and changed. Nicola has methodically worked out what it is about her vzine which offends Facebook Ads and that gives her a good way forward now. Audible initially rejected her audio of the Money Gym book on the basis the intro and outro had excessive birdsong noises, as does this podcast (but we love them!). Focus Of The Week Louise Fletcher is an artist who, against her own better judgement, came to London to participate in a somewhat woo woo workshop put on by fellow artist Alice Sheridan, and Georgina Noel. She confesses that she crossed her arms and rolled her eyes but nevertheless returned to Yorkshire a changed woman, got out of her own way, and dropped her “can’ts”. Don’t miss this story, it’s a corker. https://www.facebook.com/louisefletcherart/ LISTEN HERE TO OWN IT #232 | Getting Out of Your Own Way: Louise Fletcher Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Moderate and Judith picks Ark. What’s that all about then? We have no idea! Yet… Who Or What’s Impressed Nicola loves Maria Korma who runs two local businesses in Stoupa including Maria’s Magical Mani. Nicola describes Maria as “exuberant, relentlessly upbeat and positive and a great advocate” for the local area with her FB Lives. *** Join our free Facebook Group for Own It! the Podcast and talk back to us about what you hear in the show. Judith and Nicola discuss the matters raised by Nicola’s new website and marketing plan. Which URL will she use? James Schramko advises sticking her NicolaCairncross.com as it is her authority site. In The Show Nicola’s back in Stoupa and enjoying creating a Facebook furore with her Fitbit, plus the glorious Greek bonkersness of the stick with the red rag on it denoting a dodgy road surface, and a surprise visit by a huge moth when enjoying a drink at Steki’s. Judith has moved into her nephew’s flat in Brixton, having fun with his lovely young cat, finding some help with moving out on London Marathon day via Airtasker, and she’s thrilled with her fourth PPI win, the biggest yet. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? This week Nicola is all about her website, marketing her own business and refocusing on her client avatar. She’s engaging with Sue Okell’s process, working with the guys at Studio 1 Design for the website makeover she won at SuperFast Business and reading a book by Allan Dib called the One Page Marketing Plan. Judith’s fire is fuelled by being back in her old neighbourhood, connecting with and using her old bank, her old post office, her old MoT station, knowing her way about with ease and with no need of maps apps and she’s amazed by how easy it is to get around, find things and people and be found. Nothing stays the same and there are two or three ways in which everything isn’t old, it’s new, and that’s refreshing too. Focus Of The Week Judith and Nicola discuss the matters raised by Nicola’s new website and marketing plan. Which URL will she use? James Schramko advises sticking her NicolaCairncross.com as it is her authority site. She’s going to an SEO meeting to clean up some of the issues she believes may be limiting her traffic to that domain. She wants the new website to keep the same colours but be lighter and brighter and she’s making some brave decisions about client attraction which she believes is her USP. LISTEN HERE TO OWN IT #224: Clean Marketing Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Balance and Judith picks Flexibility. Project Updates Judith’s got her first viewing at her BTL flat for sale in Worthing on Easter Monday. He’s an investor which is precisely what she wants and, as she says, it only takes one. Nicola has some good news about the podcast itself, download numbers are up significantly. Some days, downloads are 500-700 and one day they were 1246! At 18 th April, only half way through the month, total download numbers are 5800, enough to cause Nicola to nearly fall off her chair. Both J&N are excited. Who Or What’s Impressed Nicola likes Game of Thrones and Naked Beach, and Judith is surprised to have fallen instantly back in love with London Town, and all it took was one drive early on Sunday morning round Marble Arch. Bearing in mind what Nicola said last week about her success in selling from the stage giving her cause to think about all the marketing she normally does, Judith brings the focus of the week and it is selling. In The Show Nicola is planning her return to Stoupa on Saturday and reports that she feels recuperated after her long flight back from Oz. She’s also been shopping and re-stocking – new suitcases and a hard drive and more booty besides including a Fitbit and contact lenses. Judith’s still focused on the logistics of this week’s house move, all was going swimmingly until a blown fuse took out the central heating and the shower! What's Fuelled Their Fire? Nicola has been reviewing her notes from the SuperFast Business Conference and James Schramko has sent all the delegates a recap document with a photo of him and Nicola winning her prize of a website makeover on the cover. She’s starting to think about what she learned from the speakers and is contemplating running some more Be Everywhere Online challenges. Nicola recommends: a book called Content Hacking by Alexi Neocleous which was given to her at the conference, a slim volume she says. Judith has been taking a closer look at her Facebook Page stats and insights, all green arrows demonstrating results moving in an upward direction and that’s even before she’s started to focus properly on this. Focus Of The Week Bearing in mind what Nicola said last week about her success in selling from the stage giving her cause to think about all the marketing she normally does, Judith brings the focus of the week and it is selling. How many ways are there to sell besides from the stage? Webinars, sales pages, email campaigns, product launch formulae, selling by appointment face to face, selling by cold calling or cold emailing, selling via relationship-building so that eventually you get to pitch, identifying ideal clients you do want to work with and building up a prospects list. But eventually you get in front of someone and have to ask for the business. Not many people relish that bit except J&N it seems. How did selling acquire a bad name? Is there any selling without marketing? Own It has discussed marketing a-plenty over the years, but what ways are there to go straight for the sale? Nicola recommends: Spin Selling by Neil Rackham and Predictable Revenue by Aaron Ross. Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Re-Stocking and Judith picks (Inner) Knowing. Project Updates Nicola has received her paid-for screenwriting critique and is pleased with it, and Judith wants to discuss paid-for newsletters as a business model as inspired by Justin Brooke, one of the first guests on Own It! The Summit. Thanks for listening! Judith encourages Nicola to review her month in Australia. What did she learn about her business and her life? She concludes that travel makes you feel alive, she won a big valuable prize of a website makeover worth AUD$4000 with Greg Merilees... In The Show Nicola’s back from her travels Down Under, staying in Shoreham in the UK this week before going back to Stoupa at the weekend. She endured some difficult fidgety seat companions on her return air trip with Emirates, but is pleased with her noise-cancelling headphones and serotonin combo. Judith’s adventures in house-sitting continue this week with the first of three house moves in 2.5 months and she’s pleased with her decision to put into storage everything she can’t carry easily. What's Fuelled Their Fire? Nicola is thinking about doing less marketing, given her sales success in Australia. And Judith reflects on her feelings about stopping her newsletter, specifically a couple of wins: far fewer Contact form spam emails in her inbox and feeling able to unsubscribe from the newsletters of others. She’s thinking about how she feels about Facebook too, in a good way. Focus Of The Week Judith encourages Nicola to review her month in Australia. What did she learn about her business and her life? She concludes that travel makes you feel alive, she won a big valuable prize of a website makeover worth AUD$4000 with Greg Merilees, she met up with lots of old and new friends and everything fell easily and magically into place with her connections. She uses words like excitement, adventure, anticipation, friendship, connection and gratitude about feeling happy all the time which, after three years, feels like a gift. Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Living (to the max) and Judith picks (and explains) Carefree. Project Updates Not much to report this week; Nicola had little time for writing on her travels and Judith is dodging doing a whole package of form filling re selling her flat in Worthing. Who Or What's Impressed Judith was very happy with Natalie, the gardener, who came to tidy up the garden before the homeowners return from their travels and the window boxes she’s planted up as a welcome home gift. Nicola was very impressed by James Schramko’s organisation of his Superfast Business event which he does himself. The event ran very smoothly which made it a pleasure to attend. Thanks for listening! Judith and Nicola first met Anita 14 years ago at The Acacia, Nicola’s B&B, at a Money Gym workshop. Anita describes Network Marketing as the Ultimate Coaching Business and tells how she discovered it, how it works for her and her team and how they use it as a side hustle or an entire business. In The Show Nicola’s new VA is settling in brilliantly, plus she tells Judith a couple of local Stoupa stories about getting some wood delivered and how her Seat car has been recalled to Kalamata and about her cleaner’s husband who is driving it there and back for her. Judith brings Nicola up to speed with this year’s crop of films, her faves and her dislikes and why, in anticipation of BAFTA on 10th February and Oscar on 24th. What's Fuelled Their Fire? Nicola is still very interested in The Story Grid and recommends two YouTube videos: 1. What It Takes to Turn Pro 2. How to Tell a Story that Resonates Judith has met some listeners she didn’t know before in the Own It! Facebook Page and Group and Karen inspires her to think about future topics for the podcast which might go under the title of Side Hustles. Karen is interested in ways of making more money, and in investments. Focus Of The Week Judith and Nicola first met Anita 14 years ago at The Acacia, Nicola’s B&B, at a Money Gym workshop. Anita describes Network Marketing as the Ultimate Coaching Business and tells how she discovered it, how it works for her and her team and how they use it as a side hustle or an entire business. Anita loves team building and has members all over the world and she helps them to achieve their income ambitions. Network Marketing can be either a service or a product and Anita describes the different income models. Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Craft and Judith picks Antediluvian. Project Updates Judith wrote on Monday this week about Wayne Dyer and his I AMs, and Nicola describes her client being at that point where you have to grit your teeth and keep going. Who Or What's Impressed Judith is impressed by a new probiotic and the marketing thereof, and Nicola was up all night listening to an interview with Brian Cox by Joe Rogan which she believes everyone will enjoy in different ways. What criteria do you use to hire a coach? How do you think your clients hire you? How do you wish your clients would hire you? Nicola Cairncross and Judith Morgan discuss all this and more! In The Show Nicola’s return journey to Stoupa was far less stressful than her outward one, although it did end with a rather “interesting” taxi ride. She’s pleased to be back in her peaceful, clean and tidy home. She’s had a breakthrough in her new VA plan and is hiring a project manager for a month to handle it for her. Judith tells Nicola about last week’s Cashflow game and what she learned from the day’s events, including very easy travel thanks to Waze and how to kill a couple of early morning hours in Chiswick! What's Fuelled Their Fire? Following on from last week’s show about pro blogging, Judith updates Nicola with her discoveries and plan to niche blog on matters esoteric. Nicola’s been to a Write Club meeting and taught the members about the Story Grid, and she also talks about her own new book Attract 3.0. She’s had a second breakthrough this week, in her creative sci-fi writing after completing Module 1 of her Curtis Brown writing course. Focus Of The Week What criteria do Nicola and Judith use when they hire a coach? How do they think their clients hire them? How do they wish their clients would hire them? Words Of The Week Nicola chooses Questions and Judith picks Solo. Project Updates Nicola’s really pleased with the big upswing in her traffic results as an excellent outcome of her daily videos. And Judith has committed to and completed her second writing Monday, one cheat post and one about her three favourite astrologers. She explains her logic for that and is testing, testing, testing. Who Or What's Impressed Judith was impressed by this week’s hard-working Russian cleaning lady who swept the entire house with a stiff brush when the hoover didn’t work, and Nicola explains the spooky coincidences which led to her discovering a sci-fi literary festival called Cymera in Edinburgh and she interviews the founder Ann Landmann who crowdfunded it to get it launched. In a week when just about everything that could go wrong DID go wrong, Nicola's taking her place on a rota of driving and cooking duties for a dear friend's husband, but a chance conversation with someone who asked some great questions, helped her think differently about how to handle a tricky project and her stress levels have dropped dramatically as a consequence. Who can you have a conversation with that might help you think differently about something you are worrying about? Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. On the blog What Is Social Media Marketing Why Use Social Media Marketing Which Social Media Platform Is Best What Kind Of Social Media Marketing Format Works Best How To Create A Social Media Marketing Plan When You Shouldn’t Do Your Own Social Media Marketing How To Tell If Your Social Media Marketing Is Working Own It! 211 | Successful Pro Blogging Vzine 075 | Social Media Marketing Uncovered Prefer to read? Well welcome to this week's Vzine, it's Nicola here and I'm back in Greece, as you know, and it's been absolutely appalling weather, you'll be glad to hear. It's been thunderstorms, it's been hail, and lots of snow on the mountains. I'm pretty toasty warm because that, that stove over there works a treat. This week, it's all been about neighbourliness. One of my very good friends just a few doors up has been taken ill unexpectedly and her husband has been having to go to Kalamata, which is a 45 minute to an hour drive each way, and he's obviously worried sick about her. And so all the neighbours in Stoupa have been taking it in turns to take him in and it was my turn today. We've also been dropping food round for him as well, and people have been inviting him to dinner because he's not known for his cooking skills. But she's on the mend, we think, I saw her today briefly, and she seemed much brighter, although the weird food they give you in ICU in Greek hospitals is really strange, it's like a sort of rice gruel. I wouldn't want that at all, no matter how ill I was. So, get well soon Stella, I know you don't watch this, but get well soon anyway. I've learned some stuff this week, so I'm going to tell you all about that in the next bit. This week on the Own It podcast We were talking a lot about when you should hire a coach or a mentor and what you should look for in that coach or mentor. And I've had a fantastic experience this week of actually just talking to someone who is a very experienced business person, I might add, and they asked me one question which shifted my whole thinking about everything. And the reasons really, you need a coach and a mentor, I just made some notes here, is that you don't know what you don't know and you don't know lots of things. You know, you don't know the pitfalls, you don't know the things that can go wrong, you don't know the ways to save time and money, there's a lot that you don't know, but your mentor or coach will know. The great questions thing is really important. A coach will know, a good coach, a trained coach will know the kind of questions to ask you to get you thinking differently. That's exactly what happened to me this week, and I want to tell you about that in a minute. And there are other ways to do things. There are ways that work better, there are ways that you might not have thought of, there are ways that other people would do it differently to you. And that's really valuable to be able to knock those kind of ideas around with someone who is very experienced, ideally in the thing that you want to achieve. So this happened to me this week. My sister Sarah is moving on to pastures new and I'm recruiting for a new VA. And I was getting quite stressed about it, because Sarah's, while she's making all the training videos and tick lists and things for the new person,

In this weeks series of daily videos, Nicola covers the answers to some of the biggest questions she gets asked about social media marketing for business. From why you should be thinking about social media marketing in the first place, through to how to tell if your social media marketing is working. Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. Mentioned In The Vzine Stoupa Own It! Hi, Nicola here and I just wanted to show you that I was back in Stoupa and what the beach looks like with no sunbeds at all. It's all very strangely empty. But it's lovely and sunny, it's the middle of January and I've just spent the whole last hour or so sitting outside in the sunshine, which is why I'm probably looking a bit pink. But anyway I wanted to welcome you back and let's get on with the show, shall we. The first question that I see a lot is what is social media marketing? It's a way of getting closer to your customers. It's a way of building a relationship with your customers or your potential future customers indeed. It's a way of people getting to know, like and trust you, over your competition. And it's a way of attracting people to you that like your style. It's a way of sharing information about your business that makes your business more relatable, less business-like, more personable. In conclusion, social media marketing is a lot of different things, but essentially it's a way of creating a relationship with your potential future customers. It's a way of maintaining your relationship with your existing customers and it's a way of hopefully attracting back your previous customers. Why use social media marketing at all? The Millennial generation are growing up without having any interest in using email whatsoever. So you've got to find a way to get in front of that huge potential market, before they get to the age where they're the main buyers. And that's only a few years away. If they don't use email, and they don't respond to advertising and they don't look at magazines, and if they get all their news from YouTube and Facebook, you've got to find a way of getting your business in front of them in a natural, non-pushy way. So as you can see, it's really crucial that you learn how to use social media marketing, so that when your potential future market reaches the age when they become the biggest buying group, your business isn't invisible to them. And there are lots of easy, inexpensive, fun ways of doing that. You've just got to get your head around it. People ask me, which social media platform should I use? It all depends on which social media platform you use yourself. It depends on which social media platform your potential future customers will use. And it depends which one lends itself better to the kind of social media marketing you're going to be doing. You've got to keep flexible and you've got to keep trying the new platforms as they come out. Some will resonate with your more than others. I concentrated much more on Facebook and on YouTube, never been really into Pinterest, so I think you've got to actually be using some of these platforms yourself as a human being, but don't discount a social media platform just because you don't like using it, if you hear about other people using it. You don't want to be left behind, do you. What format should you use? Should you be using pictures, should you be using long form written format, should you be using video? The whole world seems to be going video crazy right now.

Having been watching the comments in a big marketer's Facebook Lives, I'm struck by how people are always seeking certainty before taking action. Will it work for me / my business, will it work in my niche, will it work in my country? The limiting / negative beliefs and sweeping generalisations were coming thick and fast. This is in direct contrast to how I work, where I'll take an idea and get the "minimal viable version" up and running and just test, test, test! I'm actually testing using Facebook Live to record the middle part of my vzine each week now, so that I can test Social Media Examiner's assertions that Facebook Lives are a waste of time after the event, while Frank Kern says the exact opposite. Too Little Too Late? Prefer to read? Hello, and welcome to the Vzine this week. I'm going live on Facebook. I'm taking a leaf out of Frank Kern's book, and I'm going live. In the middle section of the Vzine this week is me going live, talking about entrepreneurial uncertainty because so many people seem to be seeking entrepreneurial certainty and there just isn't any such thing. So I cover the main points about what I see people needing and how to deal with entrepreneurial uncertainty and I hope you enjoy it. I'm still in Shoreham, I'm staying with the kids an extra couple of weeks, just because I can, and I'm heading back on Friday to Stoupa in The Mani. I give you a tip in the middle section this week about someone who is a natural-born marketer. And if you're interested in Greece, then you can follow her and she goes live on a regular basis and shows you the most beautiful parts of where we live. Let's get on with the show, shall we? The whole topic of today's conversation, for the first five minutes anyway, is, living with uncertainty as an entrepreneur. Because I was just watching one of Frank Kern's live videos and he's been doing a lot recently and I was reading the comments, and one of the things I was noticing was people were seeking assurance. They were seeking assurance that things would work for them, that things would work in their market niche, that things would work in their geolocation, and they just really wanted to know that things would work. So they were looking for assurances that it would work in the real estate market, they were looking for assurances that social media marketing would work in the car sales market, and they were looking for assurances that it would work in the bug catching arena. I know Hal the Bug Catcher, from down there in Florida, and he has done great with video marketing. I don't believe there's a business that could not do well with video marketing and social media marketing. There was one guy on Frank's timeline that was asking about a banqueting hall. He'd got the job of trying to market a banqueting hall. Well, I'd be going live from every single event that that banqueting hall is hosting. I'd be going down there as a marketing person, I'd be making sure I was taking fabulous video live from the events. Or I'd be getting fabulous photos of the events and I would be turning those photos into a video using a tool like Lumen5 for example, and then I would be putting some fabulous music on top of that, and then I'd be rolling that out on my Facebook page. I think there is ways now using, what is it, OPS? Open Broad-- OBS,
Robin Sharma says; “Show me your schedule and I’ll show you your values” and this got Judith and Nicola thinking about creating space for creative thought, creative thinking and creative output. In The Show Temperatures are down in Stoupa and Nicola talks of winter tavernas, wood-burning stoves and the chimney sweep. Judith’s been to a funeral and received news of a second death. It’s not all death and dying, but there is a small trend in that direction it seems. What's Fuelled Their Fire? Judith’s been shopping to buy a notebook and pen with which to begin some handwriting practice. She can see the opportunity for improving all the skills she’s lost through deliberately bringing them back into her life including walking, sleeping, singing and playing the piano. All require regular practice. Nicola is in her third week of creating daily videos and she’s encouraged by the results. She went to a Twitter lesson and could see her profile stats were 54% up on the previous week. Her Vzine is back on track and she has a few in the can thanks to Sarah’s scheduling and this allows her to feel relaxed and that she’s doing “enough”. Focus of the Week Robin Sharma says; “Show me your schedule and I’ll show you your values” and this got Judith and Nicola thinking about creating space for creative thought, creative thinking and creative output. Are we all addicted to busyness? Do we get a buzz out of being able to think of ourselves as efficient and productive? Have we lost the gentle art of doing nothing when we all know that genius comes when walking, swimming, driving and ironing. Judith found this article on the Big Think pertinent to this topic and shared it with Nicola. Creativity and Distraction. Words of the Week Nicola chooses Cooking and Judith picks Humility. Project Updates Judith is glad she has no room for projects right now and Nicola has abandoned NaNoWriMo in favour of a writing course with Curtis Brown in January. Who or What’s Impressed? Nicola likes The Fifth Season, Hugo Award winning sci-fi novel by N.K. Jemisin and Judith enjoys The Kominsky Method, starring Michael Douglas, on Netflix. Thanks for listening! Paula Gardner joins us to talk about Chaos Theory which is about how every tiny decision alters your course and how you come to realise you have no control over events, good or bad. In The Show Nicola’s having a quiet week since sister Sarah returned to the UK. Dave’s Dining Club re-opens now that the offseason has returned to Stoupa. Judith’s moved house, said goodbye to everyone in the West Country, and met her new helpful neighbours. She’s broken out the thermals, is contemplating NaNoWriMo and has enjoyed another crystal consultation. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? Nicola’s ahead of the game when it comes to NaNoWriMo, she’s attended a writing sprint day with her writing club which was at her house so she mainly spent the time zapping (writing-based) tolerations. Sarah left her with the farewell gift of a tidy and clean home which means Nicola has a lovely feeling of being on top of all her chores. Judith enjoyed a timely reminder when spending a most unusual 2.5 hours in the hairdresser this week; she received not one but two SEO-based leads. Step away from the machine more often, Judith! Focus of the Week Paula Gardner was in PR but her first love was always psychology. Careers advice put her and her parents off allowing her to pursue that but now she’s found a way to combine the two. She talks about Chaos Theory which is about how every tiny decision alters your course and how you come to realise you have no control over events, good or bad. This leads on to a discussion of Happenstance Theory which is about getting over the idea of goals, the more open you are, the more serendipity has room to happen. Connect with Paula via her website Scarlet Thinking or on Facebook. Words of the Week Nicola chooses Autonomous and Judith picks Budget. Project Updates Judith is taking a few days off to settle into her new home, and Nicola is experimenting with the podcast’s category by submitting it to Health/Self Help. Who or What’s Impressed? Nicola is impressed by self-published fantasy writer Peter Flannery who she has interviewed for Write Club’s podcast. And Judith, by the care shown above and beyond by those ladies who have looked after her for the last six months, Holistic Helen and hairdresser Anita. She explains why. Thanks for listening! Nicola and Judith talk to Charlotte Davies about SEO strategies for small businesses. In the Show There’s been a heatwave in the UK but it is wet in Stoupa and it is cardigans at the ready there, most unusually, although apparently, it happened on exactly the same dates last year too. Nicola’s children arrive this weekend with their cousins and the awesome foursome are moving in almost next door. Nicola’s local friends have also lent her a car for 2 months as they return home during the hot months. Judith waxes lyrical about the full moon. Summertime and the livin’ is easy. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? Nicola’s still excited about IGTV, vertical video on Instagram, and Judith’s got lots to share in this section from a testimonial which made both her and her client cry, to fixing tech glitches, setting up a low-carb affiliate, referrals, book sales, newsletter opt-ins etc., all the result of support from nice clients and FB friends. Focus of the Week Nicola and Judith talk SEO strategies for small business with expert Charlotte Davies. Words of the Week Judith picks Chill and Nicola chooses Wet. Project Updates Own It! continues to do well with podcast download numbers now exceeding 84,000. Who or What’s Impressed? Nicola has found two TED Talks inspiring, one by Bill Gross and the other by Curtis “Wall Street” Carrol who learned how to read and then how to trade stocks when in prison. Judith is happy that so many clients and FB friends use Messenger to send thoughts and links about things they think she might enjoy. She’s happy to know she’s in their thoughts as much as vice versa. Thanks for listening! What’s the point of blogging in 2018? Should we still be blogging and, if so, why? In the Show Nicola’s been helping a serious business friend by giving him an overview of everything he needs to know about online marketing to lead his team. Judith’s been out and about in posh pubs in pretty villages and falling in love with Wiltshire. The show is recorded on 21 st June, the day of the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, and Judith starts with some facts and figures about daylight hours in England and Stoupa. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? Nicola’s thrilled with the news about IGTV, vertical video on Instagram which can be up to 60 minutes long instead of just 60 seconds. Judith’s wrapping up with two clients, always a bittersweet occasion, despite many surprising wins for both coach and client. Focus of the Week If we thought the business case for blogging was over, we were wrong. Nicola reminds us about the hows and whys of creating blog content, so that we can achieve free traffic to our websites, the importance of having a wholly-owned home hub on the internet and not relying solely on social media, given that your platform of choice could disappear at any time taking your business with it. Words of the Week Judith picks Thinking and Nicola chooses Treacle. Project Updates Judith’s been thinking about her will and her net worth, and Nicola has remembered how much she likes selling things. Who or What’s Impressed? Escape to the Chateau DIY on Channel 4 and Million Pound Menu on BBC2. The Staircase on Netflix and the story of Jose Andres the Spanish American chef who fed the hungry in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria struck in 2017. Thanks for listening! How do you compare outsourcers? Especially when you keep hearing about outsourcing to the Philippines for $10 an hour, how do you work out who to hire? Hi, it's Nicola here and I have reached that part of the year where I have to record inside because the cicadas and the birds are very noisy outside at the moment. So, you can probably still hear the cicadas but I've turned the fan off. It's going around a little bit up there. Yeah, well, what I want to talk to you about this week, is about valuing yourself and also about how to charge when there's people in other countries that charge much less than you do. But, before that, I just wanted to quickly update you on what's been going on this week. I've been out this week to cook for some friends who had a fall together. They're a little bit elderly, and I went around last night to cook, and we watched a fantastic movie called My Cousin Vinny, which I've never seen before and it was really, really funny. Really well-written and set in the 80's, so the outfits are absolutely hilarious. Highly recommend that. My friends, Kim and Jeremy, they were staying in Stoupa last week, and I ended up having a one-hour session with Jeremy like a flash briefing, if you like, for MDs because he's the MD of a big company, and he always feels like he's on the back foot when it comes to internet marketing, when people sort of say things to him about what they should be doing or parent companies come in, and in fact pitch to him. So we had a one-hour session and I brought him up to speed on all things internet marketing, so hopefully he'll be able to hold his own a bit better. He said that he had no idea of the potential for Facebook ads, particularly for one of their consumer-facing brands, and he was very reassured that everything is trackable, and you can work out exactly how much you're spending, which ads are bringing in the prospects, which ads are bringing in the sales, so he loved all that, the data-driven element of it all. So, yeah, I'm thinking of doing that, so if you're an MD or business owner and you just wanted to hire me for an hour to talk about your business, and what your strategy could be, so that you, then, can go back and talk to your team or talk to people who are pitching digital marketing services, don't hesitate to get in touch because I really liked, enjoy talking to Jeremy about that. So just email nicola@nicolacairncross.com and we can set that up for you. Let's get on with the show shall we? So this week I wanted to talk to you about a conversation I had with Sarah, my sister, who is an extremely talented tech person. She is the person who makes sure that my Be Everywhere Online strategy is implemented across all the different platforms. She's the one I turn to if I want to find out how to do something new, like Alexa skills thing that we just put on Amazon. And we were having this conversation because she was listening to us recording the podcast, and we were talking about how you can still outsource to the Philippines or ...

While working on a new project, Nicola Cairncross felt something was wrong so she stopped to think and regroup. Taking a couple of days off proved to be the right thing, as when she meditated and journaled, two MUCH better ideas came to her on two consecutive days. It literally felt as if some Creative Force was coming through her. Now she can deliver immense value while achieving her own marketing and business goals, but in a way that suits her much better. What are you pushing to get done? Consider stopping and allowing Creative Force to come through instead. It's much more fun and certainly much easier! Well, hi everyone, it's Nicola here, and I am coming to you from the top of Bar 360 in Stoupa in Greece, which is one of my favourite locations. We were filming a series of tips for the ideal future customer or client for ClicksAndLeadsAcademy.com and where better to do that? It's quite hot though, I have to say. It's been party central in Stoupa this week. We've actually been to a couple of parties and it's been quite exhausting, let me tell you. But the good news is that we don't have to get up too early because the 2 hour time difference makes it very easy for us to look like we're getting up early, when actually we're not so much. So let's crack on with the show, shall we? So, I don't know if I've told you, I've been working through Michael Neill's Creating The Impossible book, and before you do each exercise every morning, you're supposed to Take Five, which, in my case, has actually developed into Take Fifteen, because I've moved onto Vishen Lakhiani's meditation, guided meditation, 6 Steps. And it takes you through compassion and gratitude, right through to your goals and dreams, and then, I find the 15 minutes really flies past. And what I realised this morning was that I completely forgot about Michael Neills' book. I'd gone off to England, I'd been back to my speaking gig at the International Coach Federation, and I'd come back to Stoupa and Sarah had come with me and I got completely distracted from working through the book. It's a 90-day exercise and I only got up to day 54. So today I resolved to do my 15-minute meditation and then to carry on with the exercises in the book. I am determined to finish this because I am not very good at finishing things. I'm a great starter. But I have to pass it off to other people, usually, any task, to get it completed. This is a bit of a monster mission for me, 90 days, but I am determined to see it through. And lo and behold, day 54 was something I really needed to get my head around again. Which was, How would it be if you stopped pushing and let creative force that's in the universe come through? And it actually said the word "rely" - How would it be if you relied on the creative force of the universe? Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not very keen on relying on anybody except myself. How would it be if I made space to allow the creative force of the universe to come through? So I'm determined to clear out my diary a little bit, clear out my to-do list a little bit, and just to leave some empty spaces to see what ideas the creative force, wherever it comes from, brings up in me. And then I'll put those ideas into action,

We've had quite an exciting week this week. First of all, Heather and Richard came to stay. Heather's my singing sister, and Richard's her partner. And I was very excited about that, 'cause they've never been to Stoupa before, and I was really looking forward to showing them all my favourite places. And then, about three, they came on Tuesday. Then we had Tuesday night, Wednesday night, was last night Wednesday night? Yes, it was. And last night, we were awakened by lots of hooting, lots of banging, lots of shouting, and actually, what had happened was that somehow, a fire had started up at the olive grove. The Fire engine turned up, and lots of local volunteers. And everyone was spraying their front gardens, and the thing is, it was really, really windy last night. So, the sparks were going everywhere. So we were all just ready to put out any fires that happened in our local vicinity. Finally got to bed about, oh, 4:00, 4:30, something like that, and slept like a log until about 9:30, and then we struggled to wake up, even at that point. But we went off for a lovely day out, and we went to Limeni Village, which is one my favourite places, and went to Takis fish restaurant there. And I'll put a, I'll use a picture of Takis to illustrate this week's V-zine, and you can see how gorgeous it is there. So that's my week and I'm coming back to England on Saturday, it's my daughter Phoebe's birthday today, so happy 23rd birthday Phoebe, and I'll be back to give you a big ol' hug and your birthday present on Saturday, okay? Love you, see you soon. So today I want to talk to you about being resourceful when you don't have the right resources or you don't have any resources at all. I want to tell you about our mosquito net adventure. I really wanted to get a mosquito net up for my sister, Heather, who is as neurotic as I used to be about mosquitoes, and I bought a very big double bed mosquito net, square, so it doesn't hang down like that, it hangs like that. But it's supposed to come with eight sucker pads that go on the ceiling, and of course, I didn't even check the box, I didn't even make sure it had everything in it it should. So on the first day I unveiled this square luxury mosquito net, and then we realized that of course there was nothing to hang it to the ceiling with. So we've been pondering it for the last couple of days, and I took them upstairs to Katerina's Supermarket and the upstairs emporium bit sells all sorts of things. We were looking for sucker pads, we were looking for stretchy washing lines, we were looking for anything we could use to string this mosquito net off. And on our second perambulation around the top part of Katerina's, Richard found extendable poles, and we thought okay, we might be able to do something with that. Because the best itself is a wrought iron bed and it's got, you know, poles on the end, and someone had the bright idea that we could extend the poles up as far as we needed them and then, what are those things called? I've completely forgotten what they're called. Little plastic ties, plastic ties they're called. And we could plastic tie the poles to the bed,
Do you have a Mental Model which helps you with better decision-making and clearer thinking leading to appropriate action? Today, Nicola Cairncross and Judith Morgan introduce a choice of Mental Models, one of which will be right for you, your business and your life. In the Show The beach has been bulldozed in Stoupa which means it is officially Summer. Nicola’s been offered superfast broadband and her 30 Day Challenge has converted well to paying clients. Judith’s found a helpful holistic, Helen, who has contributed (along with kefir and vitamin C) to her feeling like a new woman. She was also hot for the first time in April. There’s talk of intrepid folks Hal and Linda, and Lisa and Glenn, and more on the Women’s Equality Party. What’s Fuelled Their Fire? Both Nicola and Judith have been delighted by their respective clients having great experiences, doing good work, paying promptly and generously, and providing top reviews on Facebook and Amazon. There is nothing like the feeling of being a good match for your client (and vice versa) and both parties being amply rewarded in every sense. Focus of the Week Nicola gives the listeners and Judith a rundown of various mental models including the Law of Attraction (which takes J by surprise that Nicola would include it), and those offered by such luminaries as Gary Vee, James Schramko, Eli Goldratt and Stephen Covey. Judith and Nicola discuss the 80/20 rule (the Pareto Principle), the Kaizen theory of continuous improvement, focusing on finding, repairing and improving the weakest link (Theory of Constraints), being able to distinguish between urgent and important, deathbed decisions and more. They realise the important thing is not just to discover and study these mental models but pick one as your own and use it as often as necessary. Nicola shares a video on YouTube that demonstrates one of her favourites, the Post-it Note exercise at 1:09 of the video https://youtu.be/SmOMX511rTs Words of the Week Judith picks Wisdom and Nicola picks Smart. Project Updates Nicola’s got a new website for the Clicks & Leads Academy thanks to her sister, Sarah and she’s back using Facebook Ads. She updates Judith on the much bigger download numbers the podcast is achieving now that the show is being distributed via Radio Public. Judith is happy to share with Nicola that she’s achieved her first book sale via Amazon’s Expanded Distribution, she explains what this is and what it could mean for her book, Your Biz Your Way. Who or What’s Impressed? Nicola’s impressed by Matt Duggan and Russell Brand, and Judith by Amazon Prime’s Harry Bosch 4. Thanks for listening! Hi everyone, it's Nicola here and it's a bit of a gray old day in Stoupa. Yes, shock horror, we do get gray days here too. Not so often nowadays. Yeah, just wanted to update you with what's going on, the 30-day challenge for "Be Everywhere Online" has started. We got about 70-odd people in there. And everybody's getting very animated and excited. They're on day two now, so basically I chunked the whole thing down into tiny steps every day. And hopefully, that's making people able to move through it. It's interesting how that works isn't it? I think my brain just naturally chunks things down so it's interesting how some people need a bit of help with that. But I'm happy to give it, and it's great fun to watch everybody moving through it. You may have noticed, I am wearing not black today. I've had a delivery of not black clothes, how exciting is that? And I think there's a few more to come yet. I've even got some colors. This is denim obviously. I've got jeans on as well. Don't die of shock. And it's really nice, it makes me feel a bit more normal. While it was good to not care about what I wore for a while, and while it was good just to throw anything on as long as it was black, I'm starting to get a little bit more interested in clothes again now. So that's making me feel good. What's not making me feel good this week is the Sahara sand, from Africa. Apparently every five years, they get a wind that comes straight off the Sahara, and it brings a lot of sand over. And it's very very fine, and I woke up a couple o' nights ago and I thought I had my friend Stella's lurgy. She came back from England with a coughing lurgy so I trotted off down the chemist yesterday afternoon and bought a bottle of cough mixture cause there's nothing I hate worse than being woken up at night by coughing you can't stop. And it turns out I'm not sick at all. I was expecting to get sicker and I didn't. I've just figured out that perhaps its the sand that's bugging me. So I'm a little bit chesty today. I used to get asthma but I haven't had it for years and years and years. A little bit chesty today but I feel fine in myself so fingers crossed. You know, I haven't been sick for so long, I was really not looking forward to it. So I'm very happy to have a reprieve. What else is news? We did our Write Club recording last week, we got seven episodes done. We did six, but one didn't record, can you imagine the pain of that? A one-hour podcast episode and you have to go back and do it all again. Luckily, we were able to do it although some of the jokes got left out, and some of the others didn't sound quite as good second time round. But we pressed through and we're very pleased that we've achieved it. So we're set now for the next six or seven podcast episodes. Let's get on with the show shall we? So this week I want to talk about the magic of you.

Hi, it's Nicola here. Recording, I hope. I've got 15 minutes to do this, so I've really got to get organized. I've got to record the three sections, I've got to re-label them, get them uploaded to Google Drive so Phoebe can take them from there and Sarah can take them from there. Today is a big day, we're recording five Write Club podcast episodes, and I've also dashed off a marketing email. What else have I done this morning, I can't remember what else. There must be more. Yeah, so, basically we batch-record them, because people come and go from here all the time, and it's really nice if we want to catch everyone in on the podcast recordings, then we just get together for a day, and hash them out. We've got a really, really strong organizer on the team, Stephanie, and she makes sure that we each know what we're doing, what we're talking about. There's a different chairman every week, we've got a different guest every week. So, it's a bit of a logistical nightmare, and she's taken that over, thank goodness. That's not my strength. I just have to concentrate on making sure we actually record each episode as we're going. So, I want to talk a bit more about how to make your life easier with doing things like that in the main section. This week I suddenly had a mad burst of enthusiasm and decided to launch a 30-day challenge. I wanted to help people who were interested in the concept of being everywhere online, to know what to do every single day for thirty days, and I figured out that if they just followed my instructions, one simple instruction every day, then at the end of thirty days, they would end up with three to four great bits of content out there on YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, and all that stuff, and they would also end up with three to four podcast episodes. They would now know how to make a podcast. So, I figured that was pretty cool. I put out the word on Facebook, Twitter, through my mailing list, on my blog, all the usual places. PushCrew, you know, which is a sort of SMS push notification, and I sent a message to everyone who subscribed to my chatbot on messenger, and we've got pretty much 40 people signed up already in just literally 24 hours. It's going to be quite lively one, if you'd like to join along, just come along to my Facebook page NicolaCairncrossUK, and you'll see pinned to the top of that page, all the information you need to find out about the challenge, get involved, and sign up for it. So, yeah. Looking forward to seeing you in the private Facebook group for that. It's been quite a busy week this week. Mainly, characterized by nearly 24-hour power cut and the fridge man not coming for three days. So, that was quite funny. My fridge broke, my landlord and landlady supplied a replacement one while we tried to work out what was going on. And then we called in the fridge man from Kalamata and he was supposed to come on Thursday, and I was thinking he's going to turn up in the middle of the podcast recording, then I was thinking he was coming on Friday, and he was going to turn up in the middle of four recordings we were doing for the Own It! podcast where we were inviting guests, and listeners of the podcast on to talk about their main passionate topic,

Yesterday was a bit cloudy, but today is absolutely glorious, and I've got about 18 minutes to record this message to you. And I've had to seize the opportunity, even though some Greek guys are just delivering some rocks over behind the camera there, so you might hear lots of "ela, ela, ela," 'cause that's them saying "come, come, come," when they're telling people where to put things. Yeah, so you might notice something different about me today. Yes, I've got some makeup on. Well, why is that, then you might ask yourself, those who are even remotely interested. It's because I woke up in a bit of a funk this morning. It's the last week before the anniversary of Steve's, second anniversary of when Steve died, and I wasn't feeling so great this morning. The week before is always a difficult one, because you remember exactly what you were doing on the Tuesday, the Wednesday, the Thursday, et cetera, and you can't help those thoughts crossing your mind. You know, what if we'd done something different, what if we'd made him go to the doctor's, et cetera, et cetera, although there weren't any obvious signs. So, yeah, so I thought, I gotta do something to change my mood, I've gotta do something to change how I feel, so I thought, I don't know, it just came to me. I'll tell you what it was, I had my hair cut above my eyebrows and I suddenly thought, I really need some eyebrows there, so I thought, why don't I put a bit of makeup on? I'm going to meet the Write Club ladies in a little while, and I thought that might surprise them if I turn up with makeup, having not worn any for two years. So it just turned into a bit of fun, really, just to see if I could remember how to do it, and who knows if I've succeeded. So yes, it's all about changing my mood. And funny enough, it worked. I feel much chirpier now. I've come upstairs and I'm battling through the elements to try and get this message out to you. So, if you're not feeling like it or you've been feeling a bit down or if you're feeling a bit mis, then see what you can do. Getting up and doing something physical is supposed to help, playing loud music and having a bit of a dance is supposed to help, just changing your physical state is supposed to help, and obviously, giving yourself some eyebrows helps too. So, I just had a call with a charming gentleman called Derek, and he booked himself into my day, and when he filled in the form, I knew that there was not a lot to go on. He said he was a new business, he had a fiction book, and he wants to know how to market that better, and he also wants to become an affiliate marketer. And I thought to myself, I'm probably not gonna be able to help him, but we'll have the call anyway, and we just had the most delightful chat for half an hour about all the different ways that he can move forward to market his children's book. So,

Why do we all have this insidious expectation that "this one thing" will be the one big thing that brings "overnight success"? I talk about that and share the moment I get photobombed by a whistling fisherman whilst recording on the harbour arm in Stoupa! Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. You can also subscribe to the video podcast on iTunes. Some of the insights shared in this week's Vzine... So today what I want to do is talk to you about something that Gary Vaynerchuk's been mentioning a lot recently, he's been talking to lots of young people about it and it's this thing of patience and of us all expecting things to happen really, really quickly. You know I've been online for about 20 years. And YouTube came along in about 2006 and if I have carried on putting videos on YouTube I would have a massive following by now. But because I put up a few videos sporadically and then I didn't continue with it, I wasn't systematic with it. Nothing really happened with my YouTube channel. Well not much, I say but I had about 50,000 views and I've got about five hundred odd subscribers. So all of that happened without me paying much attention. But it has happened over the last 10 years or so. So you have to remember that these things take time and consistency is really, really important. In one of the YouTube videos I was watching today, they were saying that YouTube rewards consistency. So the things you've got to watch out for is making sure you've got a good title on your video, making sure that your video is uploaded with the title in the title of the raw video, as well as the title you give it on YouTube. They're not paying so much attention to tags anymore but they are paying a lot of attention to the content of your captions so it's really important that after you've uploaded a video and it's had time to process, that you go and check the captions. The transcription, also known as captions, of your video. And then you know they're taking a lot of notice of that for SEO, so that you make sure that your key phrase is in the title of the video, the raw file of the video, the first line of the video and the last line of the video. That's really important, that's just basic SEO and you do that for your blog post as well. So I wanted to really talk about today was this thing of consistency and patience. Because I know - I do it myself. Whenever I start a new marketing initiative and I think it's going to be the one, I think it's going to be the thing, I think it's going to be the thing that makes all the difference. Whereas actually Gary Vee put it very well in one of his videos just recently, he says you don't come along and expect to just throw up a prefab and for it to stay around forever. What you have to do is you have to think of your marketing efforts as a series of bricks that are going to build a good solid house that lasts forever. Now I want to show you some of these fabulous houses here, because there's one over there, that's really particularly lovely. There you go, that's one lovely house over there. This is the other house that I love very much which has been there for a long long time. You can see that, these houses were not built recently, they were probably built a hundred years ago. Now I'm just guessing, but these houses were built to last. They really were, they were built to be handed down generation to generation. And actually that's what we should be thinking about doing with our marketing efforts. And so what we've been doing this week is turning the week vzine into a video podcast which is going to go to iTunes and we're also taking the audio out of the vzine. And we're going to turn that into an audio podcast so it will go onto my website and I want to keep iTunes. It's already going on to YouTube in the form of the Vzine itself and it goes on to Facebook and it gets shared all...

Today Nicola is broadcasting from a tiny hidden beach in Stoupa, sharing something she's learned from James Schramko, which is that, in order to have a successful online business you need an "offer that converts". Seems obvious but in the excitement of setting up her new Membership site, she managed to forget this and doesn't want you to do the same! Today Nicola is broadcasting from Bar360 in Stoupa, rambling round Neochori, chicken spotting (always!) and talking about viral videos. Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. You can also subscribe to the video podcast on iTunes. Some of the insights shared in this week's Vzine... Today I want to talk to you about something that literally has just in the last half hour happened. It's a good story because it's about how you set goals in business and how you sometimes, well I do, get disappointed if you don't achieve them. That actually was a recurring thing in my early life. I didn't set goals because I was scared of the disappointment I would feel if I set goals and didn't achieve them. What I wanted to talk to you today, from there we were just talking about on the Own It podcast yesterday, and Judith and I were having a long discussion about it and that episode will be out next week. When you see this Vzine, you've got just a few days to wait until the episode comes out, and it's really important. Judith spends a lot of time coaching very new entrepreneurs. The excitement they feel when they get started often wears off quite quickly and they have to just learn that you have to just keep going. You have to believe your plan is sound, you have to keep executing your plan because one thing is for sure, if you don't execute on your plan, nothing will happen. We've had a really good example of it. Basically, I'm the kind of person, I get all fired up, the creative entrepreneurial juices get flowing and I think the thing I'm doing is the one that's going to set the world on fire. Judith was pointing out to me that in need to be more of a tortoise rather than a hare. I need to just keep taking one slow step after the other ever single day. Don't keep changing things. Don't keep throwing things up in the air, just let people have time catch up with you. My daughter Phoebe, who puts this Vzine together for me, she been going with YouTube about six months now, and she been doing everything right. She learned how to do YouTube SEO properly. She's religiously done that video, after video, after video. She's just been creating funny, quirky little makeup review videos. She's been reviewing things like when she gets a new Birch Box, she reviews that and what's in it and gives her honest opinion. The other thing she does is, she does things like she does makeup of her brother and he's very funny too. She's been really trying to come up with lots of creative ideas on how to make makeup reviews different. The thing that she's got going for her is she's a naturally funny person. Both my children are naturally funny. I've got not much sense of humor at all. My ex-husband is very naturally funny as well. They've got funny expressions and they've got funny sayings in the way they move their ... They've got very mobile faces. I sort of knew that she was different to the other very pretty, lovely girl makeup reviewers out there. I thought she had a little quirky charm. She obviously a bit of a cockney sparrow because she grew up in her early years in London, so there is a difference about her and I was hoping that would be the thing that swung it for her. Anyway, she's been cracking on with making these videos. She's also been making videos for me, as I say the Vzine, and she's been making videos now for a local guy, Peter Wood, who lives in Shoreham and he's got a business called Eat Food,Love Food. She's been recording little videos for him showing off his culinary skills because he's an outside caterer. Only yesterday, she was saying to me, "Oh, I don't know I'm feeling really down mom, I don't know if this YouTube thing's ever going to happen." I said to her "Look, you've got to look on it as every video you release, you get more view for your channel. We know from Casey Neistat telling us that he's nev...
