In this comprehensive exploration of one of the world's most prolonged and tragic conflicts, Pappe uses recently declassified archival material to analyse the motivations and strategies of the generals and politicians – and the decision-making process itself – that laid the foundation of the occupation. From a survey of the legal and bureaucratic infrastructures that were put in place to control the population of over one million Palestinians, to the security mechanisms that vigorously enforced that control, Pappe paints a picture of what is to all intents and purposes the world's largest ‘open prison'. https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-biggest-prison-on-earth/ilan-pappe/9781786073419 Strangers in the House - Raja Shehadeh Raja Shehadeh was born into a successful Palestinian family with a beautiful house overlooking the Mediterranean. When the state of Israel was formed in 1948 the family were driven out to the provincial town of Ramallah. There Shehadeh grew up in the shadow of his father, a leading civil rights lawyer. He vowed not to become involved in politics or law but inevitably did so and became an important activist himself. In 1985 his father was stabbed to death. The Israeli police failed to investigate the murder properly and Shehadeh, by then a lawyer, set about solving the crime that destroyed his family. In Strangers in the House, Shehadeh recounts his troubled and complex relationship with his father and his experience of exile - of being a stranger in his own land. It is a remarkable memoir that combines the personal and political to devastating effect. https://www.waterstones.com/book/strangers-in-the-house/raja-shehadeh/9781846682506

One standout DJ/producer from this era encapsulated in this Top 2000s Dance Music Classics collection is Dave Audé, a preferred choice for remix production. With an abundance of rock remixes from artists like Jacques Lu Cont, Thin White Duke, Les Rythmes Digitales (a.k.a. Stuart Price), Jason Nevins, and Lindbergh Palace, this set offers a diverse mix of genre hits. This Top 2000s Dance Music Classics volume also showcases other noteworthy DJ/producers like Gabriel & Dresden and Junkie XL, recognized for their progressive remixes that harmoniously blend Trance music with rock-dance. The period also saw the rise of Electro House, with Benny Benassi's remix of Goldfrapp's "Strict Machine" and his debut single "Satisfaction" pioneering the genre into mainstream popularity. However, most of the mainstream hits are reserved for our 'Top Dance Songs of the Year' series. SONG "Levitating," Dua Lipa COVER, by Standards & Substandards on Van Sessions at The Monarch "Levitating" is a song by English singer Dua Lipa from her second studio album, Future Nostalgia (2020). The song was written by Lipa, Clarence Coffee Jr., Sarah Hudson, and Koz, who produced the song with Stuart Price, and stemmed from a Roland VP-330 synthesizer sample played by Koz. The song is an electro-disco and nu-disco song with several disco tropes. It incorporates elements of dance-pop, pop-funk, power pop and space rock, as well as 1970s, 1980s and 1990s pop and R&B styles. The lyrics describe the idea of "levitating" when falling in love, with several outer space references. - Wiki MUSICIAN/BAND | Standards & Substandards "We're an easygoing quartet (vocals, piano, bass, drums) that loves to play whimsical re-creations, interesting blends of genres, classic jazz standards, or ironic twists on simple tunes. We'll just as happily perform an upbeat jazz standard as a bluesy torch song, and we'll also blur traditions of funk, pop, rock, and blues as the spirit moves us. In short, we just like playing music as we've reimagined it. It doesn't hurt to have a charismatic vocalist/diva and playful instrumentalists." - Standards & Substandards Website WEBSITE: https://substandards.band/ YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOZ8wFwVuSnLf7fic5Lfu5g FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/StandardsandSubstandards INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/standards_and_substandards/ SUPPORTERS The Monarch Building: https://themonarchogden.com/ Ogden City Arts: https://www.ogdencity.com/707/Arts Roosters Brewing: https://www.roostersbrewingco.com/ CREDITS Producer / Host: R. Madonna is the best-selling female recording artist of all time. She has twelve albums that have gone multi-platinum. She's won seven Grammys, and has had fifty songs reach number 1 on the Billboard Dance chart. That's more number 1s than anyone in any category, ever. In this episode, she talks about one of those number 1s: “Hung Up,” from her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor. The song and that album were co-produced by Stuart Price, an electronic musician, producer, and DJ from the UK. “Hung Up” began in part because Madonna was working on a film with director Luc Besson (whose films include The Fifth Element and Taken). But the song also grew out of Stuart's DJ sets. Madonna has a new career-spanning album out, called Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones, and in honor of its release, Madonna and Stuart Price told me the story of how their collaboration and partnership led to one of Madonna's biggest hits. Happy Pride! To celebrate Pride Month, Fluxblog's Matthew Perpetua joins DJ Louie to talk one of the most iconic gay pop acts of the century, Scissor Sisters. Louie and Matthew talk the history of queer men in mainstream pop, Scissor Sisters' formation in the downtown NYC electroclash scene of the late '90s and early '00s, their fluke first hit, a BeeGees-esque cover of "Comfortably Numb", how their 2004 self-titled debut album played like a expertly made, fun-loving tour through gay music history, why they exploded as pop stars in the UK but remained a cult phenomenon here in America, and how they presaged artists like Robyn and Charli XCX by carving out a space for alternative pop stars stateside. They then talk about their second album, 2006's Ta-Dah, it's myriad of slightly obscure pop historical references, the smash hit and their signature song, "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'", their turn towards more sex-forward music on their 2010 Stuart Price-produced masterpiece, Night Work, and Louie shares a bit about what the record meant to him in his personal journey with his sexuality. Next, Louie and Matthew discuss their final album, 2012's Magic Hour, how they mainstreamed the word "kiki" on their gay club hit "Let's Have a Kiki" and the impact they've had on future queer pop stars like Mika, Sam Smith and Lil Nas X, as well as on campier American pop icons who followed in their footsteps like Lady GaGa and Katy Perry. Finally, Louie and Matthew rank Scissor Sisters in the official Pop Pantheon. It's remix time!

CharltonKeano Is BackGoalsPerformances4th OfficialPenaltiesMotMCrewe PreviewView From The Away End with Stuart PriceRef WatchPrevious and FormPredictionsIt was a good performance as we came from behind to beat Charlton and get three points on the board. Will Keane back following injury and he not only had a good game, but also dispatched a 26th minute penalty to equalise Elliott Lee's early goal for Charlton. It was a game with some strange decisions, or shall we say 'non-decisions' from the officials and also a very odd performance by the 4th official. All's well that ends well, a new look Stevie Humphrys on hand to score a 74th minute winner following his introduction off the bench a few minutes earlier. We have Crewe in town on Tuesday and there is an interesting preview from Stuart Price of The Railwaymen Podcast, Stuart tells us that Crewe are in turmoil, the players are poor, the fans have turned and there could be changes imminent, is this all a ruse to catch us off guard? Sadly, no Crewe are in a rate old state, hopefully they'll get things sorted but fingers crossed it is after Tuesday. We have a debutante on the podcast for this episode, Emma steps in for Adam who is away on 'other' duties and she makes an excellent member of the team, thanks Emma.
This week's show cover new music from Austin, Texas's Spoon, a great new tune from the duo of Swindle and Greentea Peng, from London, then an electronic composition of a sort from LA's Amon Tobin, and perfect pop song from Laetitia Sadier, of Stereolab fame.Brendan whips out a dance track from 1999 that would still fit into any modern DJ set: "Dreamin'" by Les Rythmes Digitales--the nom de rock of the British super-producer Stuart Price. Of course there are six more bonus tracks, but you have to sign up for our email newsletter to get those. It's pretty easy to do, if you just click this link. (And do so without fear. We won't misuse your email address, as this show is run by two guys, Mark and Brendan; Not some faceless corporation.) Lastly, don't miss our fabulous Spotify playlists. We make one for each episode of the show, so grab the latest if you are up to date, and dig into previous episodes if you are new here, or just curious. Have a great week!

What happens when you combine Madonna with Stuart Price and ABBA? You get one of the most fantastic pop songs of all time and as her highest-selling digital single, a great commercial success too. The song's origin was as part of a musical written by Luc Besson, but can be traced back even further to the summer of 1979 when ABBA rehearsed their tour at Europa Studios in Stockholm. Hear outtakes from that ABBA record along with the stems from the Madonna song which would hit no. 1 around the world.
Gothic Horror Radio Play Based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe, The Grimm of Stottesden Hall was recorded in front of a terrified live audience on the 7th May 2009. Come with us as we take you on a journey of madness, terror and gruesome, GRUESOME MURDER! The decaying walls of Stottesden Hall are the setting for our LIVE recording of an original gothic horror radio play by award winning team, writer Stuart Price and composer Michael Bruce. TRUE! Nervous, very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why WILL you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses, not destroyed, not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How then am I mad? Hearken! And observe how healthily, how calmly, I can tell you the whole story.” Edgar Allen Poe Starring : Knight Mantell, David Beck, Jessica Dennis, Leonie Hill, Josh Cass and Andrew Glenn. Written By: Stuart Price Foley By: Jack Bowman, Dean Elliott and Reuben Anderson Edited By: Scott Wiber Directed By : Stuart Price Music By : Michael Bruce “Wireless's live show was an Edgar Allen Poe inspired horror, and listening to it on air meant that your imagination could run riot and conjure imagery far scarier than a set designer could budget for.” THE GUARDIAN OTHER TITLES BY STUART PRICE INCLUDE; ON THREE, THE YOUTH OF OLD AGE AND THE PIPER & MUSICIANS OF BREMMEN

The Pet Shop Boys talk about their highly anticipated new studio album Hotspot, which is released today. Hotspot is the duo’s final release with producer Stuart Price who ushered in a period of ‘electronic purism’ in their work. Recorded using a large amount of analogue equipment, Hotspot is a departure from the Pet Shop Boy’s recent hyper dance pop sound. Front Row's series examining risk in the arts focuses today on emotional risk. What is it like for writers and performers to explore their own personal backgrounds and issues and then to go public with their revelations and confessions, and how much has that changed in recent years? Louise Allen addresses the challenge of putting her experiences of an abusive childhood in foster care onto the page in her memoir Thrown Away Child, and stand-up Ahir Shah discusses drawing on his own personal mental health issues in his stage act. Next Monday is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. We are all familiar with images of victims of the Holocaust. Most of these, though, were actually taken by the Nazis for propaganda purposes and to create a historical record. The Eye as Witness , a new touring exhibition organised by The National Holocaust Centre and Museum, challenges these views. Professor Maiken Umbach explains how, using virtual reality technology, viewers can enter into a photograph to experience how it was framed and, crucially, what is not shown, including the photographer taking the picture. The exhibition focuses, too, on photographs taken, at enormous risk, by the inmates of the ghettoes and camps. Some of these images were buried and retrieved once the war was over. They reveal, amidst degradation and evil, a zest for life, humanity and love. Presenter: Stig Abell Producer: Hilary Dunn

HN-T2 - V-20-9-2013 - Bunbury, The Killers, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Sleigh Bells, Néctar + Germán Coppini, Matías Aguayo, etc...
