In sports, we recapped last night's game between the Rams & 49ers, talked about the Bill Belichick press conference yesterday, and we took a look ahead at this weekend's NFL schedule, along with the Badger & Bucks schedule. We let you know what's going to be on TV this weekend & what's in theaters, and we talked about the massive Stanley mug recall that's happening right now. Brian's on vacation next week, so we looked at a recent survey that asked people how often they NEED a vacation. Great story about a retired fire Captain who saved a 6 year-old girl's life at a recent screening of Moana 2, and some firefighters in Cleveland were able to successfully rescue a woman's missing engagement ring out of a sewer. Travis Hunter dominated the NCAAF awards last night & is the favorite to win the Heisman trophy this weekend, and the Lions have revoked a fan's tickets after his dust-up with Packers head coach Matt LaFleur on Thanksgiving. In today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about some jewelry thieves that tried to use a rowboat to escape police, a drug suspect who ran from police & tried to hide in a chimney, a Domninos delivery driver who's been robbed by the same man on the same street TWICE in the same week, and a scumbag Tik Tok "influencer" created a fake charity & stole almost a million dollars over the last several years. We're joined by Dr. Denis Noble, Professor Emeritus of Cardiovascular Physiology at the University of Oxford, and the father of 'systems biology'. He is known for his groundbreaking creation of the first mathematical model of the heart's electrical activity in the 1960s which radically transformed our understanding of the heart. Dr. Noble's contributions have revolutionized our understanding of cardiac function and the broader field of biology. His work continues to challenge long-standing biological concepts, including gene-centric views like Neo-Darwinism. In this episode, Dr. Noble discusses his critiques of fundamental biological theories that have shaped science for over 80 years, such as the gene self-replication model and the Weissmann barrier. He advocates for a more holistic, systems-based approach to biology, where genes, cells, and their environments interact in complex networks rather than a one-way deterministic process. We dive deep into Dr. Noble's argument that biology needs to move beyond reductionist views, emphasizing that life is more than just the sum of its genetic code. He explains how AI struggles to replicate even simple biological systems, and how biology's complexity suggests that life's logic lies not in DNA alone but in the entire organism. The conversation covers his thoughts on the flaws of Neo-Darwinism, the influence of environmental factors on evolution, and the future of biology as a field that recognizes the interaction between nature and nurture. We also explore the implications of his work for health and longevity, and how common perspectives on genetics might need rethinking. All the topics we covered in the episode: -The critique of Neo-Darwinism and the future of evolutionary theory. -Systems biology: Understanding life beyond the gene. -The complexity of biology: Why reductionism falls short. -Evolution and inheritance: The role of environment in shaping species. -Health implications of Dr. Noble's work: Longevity, lifestyle, and the limits of genome-based predictions. Join us for a thrilling discussion on the future of biology, evolution, and the practical implications for health and science. Follow our host, Waheed Rahman (@iwaheedo), for more updates on tech, civilizational growth, progress studies, and emerging markets. In this Say Yes to Holiness podcast conversation, Christina has a conversation with Susan Windley-Daoust, Executive Director, of the Mark 5:19 Project.  Susan discusses her journey and the launch of the Mark 5:19 project, a nonprofit apostolate aimed at helping parishes become evangelizing communities. In their conversation, Susan emphasizes the importance of prayer and courage in sharing the Gospel and encourages individuals to step out of their comfort zones and engage with others in conversations about faith. She also highlights the need for a culture change in the Church, where evangelization becomes a natural part of our lives and relationships. Finally, she suggests practical steps, such as forming small groups and fostering meaningful conversations within families, to help foster parish renewal. Takeaways Prayer and discernment are essential in the process of parish renewal and evangelization. Every Catholic, regardless of their role in the Church, can share the Gospel and be a witness to God's love. Parish renewal requires a culture change, where evangelization becomes a natural part of our lives and relationships. Creating spaces for meaningful conversations and fostering small groups can help facilitate the sharing of faith. We need to be willing to step out of our comfort zones and engage with others in conversations about faith and hope. The purpose of the Mark 5:19 project is to support parishes in their journey towards becoming evangelizing communities. Sound Bites" "The first thing I would recommend, whether you're average person in the pew or the pastor of the church, is to pray." "We need to be converted to God's people and be the bearers of the good news." "The first time is hard, the second time is uncomfortable, and the third time you're there." Hello everyone and welcome to episode 59 of the Still Spinning Podcast. Summer is fully here and tomorrow is the 4th of July so before you go on a picnic or watch some fireworks, we hope you enjoy this episode of the podcast.   The Olympic trials just wrapped up, and one of us was very excited and watched a whole lot of them, and the other is "not an Olympic person." Can you guess which is which? Nicole would love to see a new addition to the Olympics - the Average Person. Put just an average person into every track and field event and really see how impressive these athletes are. Dan shares something he gets excited about: outer space stuff.   Can you get arrested for giving a state trooper the bird? Well, it happened in Vermont, but Nicole thinks there is way more to the story than the story tells us. We discuss it, and Dan shares some tips on how NOT to get arrested.   What scares Dan more than most things? SINKHOLES. There is a story out of a small town outside of St. Louis about a sinkhole that appeared under a soccer field and this thing is WILD. It crosses over into the story about the Teton Pass road being washed away and chat about what scares the crap out of us in both scenarios.   Check out the stillspinningpodcast.com website for back episodes, merch and information on how to become a Spinner.
