Sean Willers, UK from The Willers Brothers join us to share his story for life after the party. Having enjoyed a residency at Egg for over four years, we, Sean and Liam Willers, aka The Willers Brothers, became a highly successful DJ act, regularly playing top London clubs, including Ministry of Sound, Tobacco Dock, and more. As regulars on the Berlin music scene, we frequently played hotspots such as Watergate and Tresor. We also hit the decks at high-profile venues like Pacha in Barcelona, The Zoo Project in Ibiza, SWF Festival in Amsterdam, Bit Club in Sao Paulo, plus venues in Tokyo and Moscow. We were the second most listed DJs to play at Egg and were signed by the Watergate agency, which saw us move to Berlin and enthusiastically throw ourselves into the party lifestyle. Throughout our career, we played alongside many big-name DJs, including Darius Syrossian, Kerri Chandler, Waff, and Yousef. As music producers as well as DJs, we achieved several number ones on decks.de and top 10s on Beatport, releasing our catalogue on both vinyl and digital formats to high acclaim. However, the demanding nocturnal lifestyle began to take its toll. I, Sean, became gripped by a vicious drug and alcohol addiction, leaving me feeling like a wreck mentally, physically, and financially. We gained a reputation for excessive consumption, which started breaking down our relationships and negatively affecting our DJing work, causing us to repeatedly fall out with numerous agencies and people within the industry. I'm your host Mason Vera Paine and in today's episode we will be featuring music from Stelios Vassiloudis, Will Taylor, Paluma, Mason Talbot, Vinyl's From The Past and Music News. Stelios Vassiloudis: Start - 0:16 and End – 6:53From Athens, Greece comes Stelios Vassiloudis, a DJ and Producer with classical training. His educational path led him to pursue an acoustical engineering degree followed by a master's in composition and arrangement. Take a listen to his latest track “Heat”. “Heat” is out now via Bedrock and it's available on all streaming platforms. Stelios diverse and strong musical background has allowed him to earn not only a loyal fan base but secure collaborations with renowned labels like Bedrock, Poker Flat, Ovum, and Constant sound. For the latest on Stelios and his upcoming projects visit: Steliosvassiloudis.com; that's S-T-E-L-I-O-S-V-A-S-S-I-L-O-U-D-I-S DOT COM Will Taylor: Start – 6:54 and End – 14:20DJ and Producer, Will Taylor is one of the leading names in the UK Tech House scene. His signature sound has been instrumental in setting the trends within the genre. Take a listen to his latest track “Famous”. “Famous” is out now via North of Neptune records and it's available on all streaming platforms. Since the start of his career, Will has been driven by a strong work ethic and desire to make unique music. This concept has opened the door to multiple opportunities like multi-summer residency at Amnesia Ibiza and club shows at Studio 338, Tobacco Dock, Motion Bristol and Soho Garden Dubai. For the latest on Will's upcoming appearances and projects visit: Instagram.com/willtayloruk; that's Instagram.com/W-I-L-L-T-A-Y-L-O-R-U-K Vinyl's From The Past: 14:22 to 25:06I am going to take a brief break from Vinyl's From The Past. In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this episode I will be featuring “Underworld”. “Underworld” was formed in 1987 and consisted of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith. As a duo they created synthpop music. However in 1990 the group became a trio and add Darren Emerson. At this point they went from synthpop to progressive house and techno. In 1996 they had their biggest mainstream hit “Born Slippy.Nuxx”, which was on the “Trainspotting” soundtrack. Take a listen here. “Born Slippy.Nuxx” captured the emotional and human element of the characters in “Trainspotting”. The use of vocals in EDM was new at the time because EDM tracks were largely instrumental. In addition, this track was a fusion and trance with its driving, repetitive. synth beats. This fusion blurred the lines with the genres. All of these things combined assisted with the evolution of EDM. That's it for this week's Vinyl's from the past; now let's get back to more music. Paluma: Start – 25:07 and End – 31:53Our next artist, Paluma is a DJ and Producer from Australia that specializes in minimal music and deep house. For more than a decade, Paluma has been entertaining audiences with his live performances in Australia. 2020, marked the beginning of his journey as a producer and saw the release of his debut produced track "Rock The Boat". Paluma is also known for his reworking of popular songs like Fergie's "London Bridge". He is back with his latest rework of Sean Paul's 2000 hit “Temperature”; take a listen to it here.

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Upcoming EA conferences in 2023, published by OllieBase on May 4, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. The Centre for Effective Altruism will be organizing and supporting conferences for the EA community all over the world for the remainder of 2023, including the first-ever EA conferences in Poland, NYC and the Philippines. We currently have the following events scheduled: EA Global EA Global: London | (May 19–21) | Tobacco Dock - applications close 11:59 pm UTC Friday 5 May EA Global: Boston | (October 27–29) | Hynes Convention Center EAGx EAGxWarsaw | (June 9–11) | POLIN EAGxNYC | (August 18–20) | Convene, 225 Liberty St. EAGxBerlin | (September 8–10) | Urania EAGxAustralia | (September 22–24, provisional) | Melbourne EAGxPhilippines | (October 20–22, provisional) EAGxVirtual | (November 17–19, provisional) Applications for EAG London, EAG Boston, EAGxWarsaw and EAGxNYC are open, and we expect applications for the other conferences to open approximately 3 months before the event. Please go to the event page links above to apply. Please note again that applications to EAG London close 11:59 pm UTC Friday 5 May. If you'd like to add EA events like these directly to your Google Calendar, use this link. Some notes on these conferences: EA Globals are run in-house by the CEA events team, whereas EAGx conferences are organized independently by local community builders with financial support and mentoring from CEA. EA Global conferences have a high bar for admission and are for people who are very familiar with EA and are taking significant actions (e.g. full-time work or study) based on EA ideas. Admissions for EAGx conferences are processed independently by the EAGx conference organizers. These events are primarily for those who are newer to EA and interested in getting more involved and who are based in the region the conference is taking place in (e.g. EAGxWarsaw is primarily for people who are interested in EA and are based in Eastern Europe). Please apply to all conferences you wish to attend once applications open — we would rather get too many applications for some conferences and recommend that applicants attend a different one than miss out on potential applicants to a conference. Travel support funds for events this year are limited (though will vary by event), and we can only accommodate a small number of requests. If you do not end up receiving travel support, this is likely the result of limited funds, rather than an evaluation of your potential for impact. When planning around an event, we'd recommend you act under the assumption that we will not be able to grant your travel funding request (unless it has already been approved). Find more info on our website. Feel free to email hello@eaglobal.org with any questions, or comment below. You can also contact EAGx organisers using the format [location]@eaglobalx.org (e.g. warsaw@eaglobalx.org, nyc@eaglobalx.org). Thanks for listening. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Apply to attend EA conferences in Europe, published by OllieBase on February 28, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Europe is about to get significantly warmer and lighter. People like warmth and light, so we (CEA) have been busy organising several EA conferences in Europe over the next few months in partnership with local community-builders and EA groups: EAGxCambridge will take place at Guildhall, 17–19 March. Applications are open now and will close on Friday (3 March). Speakers include Lord Martin Rees, Saloni Dattani (Our World In Data) and Anders Sandberg (including a live interview for the Hear This Idea podcast). EAGxNordics will take place at Munchenbryggeriet, Stockholm 21–23 April. Applications are open now and will close 28 March. If you register by 5 March, you can claim a discounted early bird ticket. EA Global: London will take place at Tobacco Dock, 19–21 May 2023. Applications are open now. If you were already accepted to EA Global: Bay Area, you can register for EAG London now; you don't need to apply again. EAGxWarsaw will take place at POLIN, 9–11 June 2023. Applications will open in the coming weeks. You can apply to all of these events using the same application details, bar a few small questions specific to each event. Which events should I apply to? (mostly pulled from our FAQ page) EA Global is mostly aimed at people who have a solid understanding of the core ideas of EA and who are taking significant actions based on those ideas. Many EA Global attendees are already professionally working on effective-altruism-inspired projects or working out how best to work on such projects. EA Global is for EAs around the world and has no location restrictions (though we recommend applying ASAP if you will need a visa to enter the UK). EAGx conferences have a lower bar. They are for people who are: Familiar with the core ideas of effective altruism; Interested in learning more about what to do with these ideas. EAGx events also have a more regional focus: EAGxCambridge is for people who are based in the UK or Ireland, or have plans to move to the UK within the next year; EAGxNordics is primarily for people in the Nordics, but also welcomes international applications; EAGxWarsaw is primarily for people based in Eastern Europe but also welcomes international applications. If you want to attend but are unsure about whether to apply, please err on the side of applying! See e.g. Expat Explore on the “Best Time to Visit Europe” Pew Research Center surveyed Americans on this matter (n = 2,260) and concluded that “Most Like It Hot”. There seem to be significant health benefits, though some people dislike sunlight. Thanks for listening. To help us out with The Nonlinear Library or to learn more, please visit nonlinear.org.

Alastair Barlow and Lucy Cohen joined the AccountingWEB podcast team to discuss the key trends and innovation coming out of the Accounting Excellence Awards. As the Accounting Excellence finalists nervously await the big awards night on 8 September, on No Accounting for Taste this week we explored how the bleeding edge firms are striving for excellence in the profession and caught up with last year's outstanding contribution winner. So, where are the big areas of innovation in the profession? How is tech helping accountants be more efficient? And what are their secrets behind excellence in client service and strong growth? First, Alastair Barlow, CEO of flinder, the winner of multiple Accounting Excellence awards, chewed over the emerging innovation in client service, people and technology. Lucy Cohen, the co-founder of Mazuma, then beamed into the virtual pod studio to reflect on the importance of vulnerability, culture and, of course, being awarded the outstanding contribution prize at last year's Accounting Excellence awards. Join us on 8 September at London's Tobacco Dock for the Accounting Excellence Awards, supported by our headline sponsor Intuit QuickBooks, to celebrate the most glamorous night of the year for accountants. In this special bonus episode you will hear from Danny Attias, the creator and host of the Sondership Podcast give a 15 minute (TED style) talk called Lessons from Sondership which was recorded in front of a live audience on the 15th September 2021 at East London's iconic Tobacco Dock.Watch the video on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/628283664/1bb90fafc5The talk itself is focussed on the lessons he has learned from speaking to people with purpose since launching this podcast, covering three key themes:- turning your empathy, and those sonder moments, into purpose,- how imposter syndrome, or imposter phenomenon appears in the lives of almost every guest- and how there is a recurring theme of using privilege and turning it into allyship. The talk is followed by a question and answer session covering topics including privilege, sonder, imposter syndrome, diversity and inclusion as well as staying authentic while developing your brand.A transcription of each episode, as well as guest profiles and much more, is available on our website www.sondership.comCreditsBizclik Media for inviting me to speak and hosting the event: https://www.bizclikmedia.com/Title music - Buddha by Kontekst https://soundcloud.com/kontekstmusicCreative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0Free Download or Stream: http://bit.ly/2Pe7mBNMusic promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/b6jK2t3lcRs Support the show

The Summer-ized Sessions podcast returns for a special New Year edition! Resident Kisch casts an ear back on 2019, picking some of his favourites to be featured on the show throughout the year including Camelphat, Todd Terry, Will Clarke, Eli Brown, Jamie Jones, Darius Syrossian and more. He also takes a look at some of the music about to set fire to dancefloors in 2020. Kieren Lythgow steps in to provide his recent favourites in this month's "resident picks", and we're incredibly excited to have our featured mix coming from Karuva! In The Mix - Karuva --------------------------------- Growing up at Loch Ness, Karuva was born into an eccentric musical family - learning the art of DJing, in addition to playing electric guitar, drums, slap bass and freestyle piano. Driven by a wild and untamed creativity, his unique slant on house music utilises live instrumentation and draws on influences from as wide as Jamie Jones to James Brown - integrating funk as a component in each of his records. Catching the ears of the industry, Karuva’s productions have been aired on BBC Radio 1, BBC 1XTRA, Kiss FM, Dirtybird Radio and Toolroom Radio, featured by Mixmag and been the subject of two national TV interviews. Artists championing his music include Danny Howard, Claude VonStroke, Roger Sanchez, Golf Clap, Mark Knight, TCTS, Erick Morillo, Maximono, Kolombo, Will Clarke, Illyus & Barrientos, Billy Kenny and Davide Squillace. After a few lacklustre episodes (we just hadn't had time to play much of anything new - sorry!) we're making it up to you this month with an absolutely packed show. First up we have to address some recent sequel announcements of the vampiric and borderlands variety, as well as the reveal of Google's new games streaming service, Stadia. Will's been on post apocalyptic shooter duty with Far Cry New Dawn and Metro Exodus, Rob's been getting a bit miffed by the new Hearthstone expansion and Marcus has been having a party with um.... Mario Party? And then we're off on our annual pilgrimage to London's Tobacco Dock, for EGX Rezzed where we all got to play a bunch of different things: Ape Out, Divinity Fallen Heroes, Everspace, My Friend Pedro & much much more... And all that before hobnobbing with Videogame Royalty at the BAFTA Games Awards, the winners of which, we discuss in detail here...Happy?Contact us on Email at: notplayingpodcast@gmail.comFollow us on Twitter: @notplayingpodYou can find the show notes for this show at www.notlistening.co.ukIf you're listening on iTunes, please give us a review!Music kindly provided by Miracle of Sound https://www.youtube.com/miracleofsoundTo Check out other shows in the Collection visit:http://barkerpodcasts.webs.comIncluding the #NOTwatching Podcast:http://www.spreaker.com/show/the-notwatching-podcast

We’re at the IFTC held at London’s Tobacco Dock where Simon is meeting some of the fintech envoys outlined in the Chancellor’s keynote address and getting some insights into how the new fintech strategy will play out. David Duffy explains the excitement behind the fintech bridges and the challenges ahead for fintechs and banks working together. Eileen Burbidge shares key insight on the state of the fintech landscape today, how the UK leads the industry, how fintechs need to adapt in the face of GDPR and the power of transparency. Al Lukies gives us some more information on the fintech bridges and how the Australian bridge will be stronger than the Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea and China bridges. Collaboration is at the heart of the bridge but it’s at the first step of a long journey. Nikhil Rahti comments from his unique position on fintechs gradual change from the B2C market to financial markets. How new tech is improving sectors the world over and just why open access distributed ledger technology might speed transactions up to transform the global financial market. Adrienne Harris gives her global perspective on fintechs growth, where its future challenges lie, how the UK and US can learn from each other, and the importance of efficient regulation. Imran Gulamhuseinwala tells Simon about the Open Banking implementation and ensuring that the 9 largest banks in the UK implement it properly. He also explains that Open Banking will have a few more iterations before it’s complete and what the next few phases will be. We hope you enjoyed the show!
