BenGreenfieldFitness.com/recapturerapture My guest on today's podcast, Jamie Wheal, first joined me on the podcast episode: "Recapture the Rapture: Biohacking Sex, Tantric Breathwork, Plant Medicines For Orgasmic Enhancement & Much More!", for which the title is pretty self-explanatory regarding the wildly stimulating topics we covered on that show. Today Jamie, a so-called "neuroanthropologist" is back, describing exciting elements from his new book Recapture the Rapture: Rethinking God, Sex, and Death in a World That's Lost Its Mind - a book in which he maps out a revolutionary new practice—Hedonic Engineering—that combines neuroscience and optimal psychology. It's an intensive program of breathing, movement, and sexuality that mends trauma, heightens inspiration and tightens connections—helping us wake up, grow up, and show up for a world that needs us all. This is a book about a big idea. And the idea is this: Slowly over the past few decades, and now suddenly, all at once, we're suffering from a collapse in Meaning. Fundamentalism and nihilism are filling that vacuum, with consequences that affect us all. In a world that needs us at our best, diseases of despair, tribalism, and disaster fatigue are leaving us at our worst. It's vital that we regain control of the stories we're telling because they are shaping the future we're creating. To do that, we have to remember our deepest inspiration, heal our pain and apathy, and connect to each other like never before. If we can do that, we've got a shot at solving the big problems we face. And if we can't? Well, the dustbin of history has swallowed civilizations older and fancier than ours. This book is divided into three parts. The first, Choose Your Own Apocalypse, takes a look at our current Meaning Crisis--where we are today, why it's so hard to make sense of the world, what might be coming next, and what to do about it. It also makes a case that many of our efforts to cope, whether anxiety and denial, or tribalism and identity politics, are likely making things worse. The middle section, The Alchemist Cookbook, applies the creative firm IDEO's design thinking to the Meaning Crisis. This is where the book gets hands on--taking a look at the strongest evolutionary drivers that can bring about inspiration, healing, and connection. From breathing, to movement, sexuality, music, and substances--these are the everyday tools to help us wake up, grow up, and show up. AKA--how to blow yourself sky high with household materials. The final third of the book, Ethical Cult Building, focuses on the tricky nature of putting these kinds of experiences into gear and into culture—because, anytime in the past when we've figured out combinations of peak states and deep healing, we've almost always ended up with problematic culty communities. Playing with fire has left a lot of people burned. This section lays out a roadmap for sparking a thousand fires around the world--each one unique and tailored to the needs and values of its participants. Think of it as an open-source toolkit for building ethical culture. In Recapture the Rapture, Jamie takes radical research out of the extremes and applying it to the mainstream to the broader social problem of healing, believing, and belonging. It's providing answers to the questions we face: how to replace blind faith with direct experience, how to move from broken to whole, and how to cure isolation with connection. Said even more plainly, it shows us how to revitalize our bodies, boost our creativity, rekindle our relationships, and answer once and for all the questions of why we are here and what do we do now? Jamie is also the author of Stealing Fire: How Silicon Valley, Navy SEALs, and Maverick Scientists Are Revolutionizing the Way We Live and Work and the founder of the Flow Genome Project, an international organization dedicated to the research and training of human performance. His work and ideas have been covered in The New York Times, Financial Times, Wired, Entrepreneur, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Inc., and TED. He has spoken at Stanford University, MIT, the Harvard Club, Imperial College, Singularity University, the U.S. Naval War College and Special Operations Command, Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, the Bohemian Club, and the United Nations. He lives high in the Rocky Mountains in an off-grid cabin with his partner, Julie; two children, Lucas and Emma; and their golden retrievers, Aslan and Calliope. When not writing, he can be found mountain biking, kitesurfing, and backcountry skiing. During our discussion, you'll discover: -What the heck is a "neuroanthropologist?"...07:34 -What does it mean to "recapture the rapture?"...15:15 -A contrarian view of the end times...23:56 -Jamie's creative writing process...31:55 -How prostate massages bring one to a new level of consciousness...43:25 -The 5 big techniques for achieving a peak state of flow...48:35 -Why sex, drugs, rock and roll mark the beginning of civilization, not the end...1:00:44 -About circular breathing...1:05:00 -Meduna's Mixture...1:10:12 -How to use breath to "steer" your psyche...1:23:40 -How to work directly with Jamie...1:28:05 -And much more! We all want the best education for our kids – but sometimes accessing it is a puzzle. Magnet schools, charter schools, public versus private etc. LA-based educational consultant Jamie Bakal joins Linda on this episode to distill the school selection process. In addition to covering the pluses and minuses of each type of school, Jamie also shares the importance of getting—not just the right academic—but the right social fit; how some colleges are putting the breaks on considering a plethora of AP classes, which they see as purely about memorization; and the rise of progressive, project-based or "hands on learning." Plus, why we need to rewire our kids' brains to teach them that success (and the ultimate goal) is not about money. Jamie worked for 6 years as an elementary school teacher and during that time she became keenly aware of how important selecting the right environment plays into getting an excellent education. Today Jamie counsels families so that they can select schools where their child can succeed both academically and socially.

Today Jamie breaks down the importance of focusing on compound movements 80% of the time in order to maximize the Return On Investment of your time spent at the gym. It’s crucial to exhaust the high ROI movements, like squats, deadlifts, presses, rows while letting your ab exercises, biceps and cardio take up 20% of your time. He walks you through what that means specifically and stresses the importance of learning to love the process. He closes by discussing distractions that many people use to fill in the gaps when they’re not spending the majority of their time focusing on their greater purpose, and how doing so can lead to disappointment and lack of fulfillment.

The weight of responsibility and fear of inadequacy in educating children at home can stress out the best of Christian mothers. What’s the remedy? I’ll talk it over with Jamie Erickson, author of “Homeschool Bravely.” Plus: What is some of the pornographic and age-inappropriate material in California's sex-ed curriculum in its proposed Health Education Framework, which the state Board of Education is set to adopt next month? Former Los Angeles teacher Rebecca Friedrichs joins me to reveal how bad it really is. I’ll discuss that and more on the next JANET MEFFERD TODAY.
The first time Jamie Pool died, he was wearing a suit. That suit turned out to be the difference between his cardiac arrest going unnoticed by passers-by, and him getting medical help that would save his life. Jamie suffers from a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, an often undetectable, but fairly widespread, genetic disease that causes unpredictable cardiac arrests. Today Jamie copes with his illness through the use of a subcutaneous device called an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) - essentially a defibrillator machine that is permanently attached to his heart. But over the last decade, Jamie experienced dying nine times - four of which happened on consecutive Thursdays! In this episode of Rob Konrad: Conversations, Jamie talks to Rob about near-death experiences, his thoughts on the afterlife, coincidences that feel supernatural, and having astonishingly good luck. He tells Rob what it feels like to die, and how he finds meaning in life without religious belief, and without being able to plan a future with any certainty. Today Jamie and Ryan discuss the dishonesty behind radio advertisements as it pertains to weight loss, fitness & exercise. Jamie also shares stories of other trainers at gyms he'd worked at in the past overcomplicating and not recording workouts in an effort to keep their clients confused, in hopes that this would make their clients stick with them longer.
Today Jamie and Ryan dive into a few different topics that pertain directly to both truth and deception in the fitness industry. Jamie is loving the book “Coan, The Man, The Myth, The Method” and goes into depth about some of his favorite parts of the book. They also dissect 2 instagram posts, one of which is speaking the truth as shared by Stefi Cohen & Bret Contrerasi and another which showcases a BS “scientific” testing method that a local gym is using to dupe their clients out of roughly $100.
Today Jamie is talking about how he had a startling revelation when he recently realized that he has turned into his father. This isn’t a bad thing, in fact, it’s a good thing. He refers to his father’s successful run as a high school football coach centering around the fact that his teams never strayed from the basics. Jamie uses the same strategy with his clients. He talks about the risk involved with certain activities that are being pushed by trainers and gyms…things that might make sense for a world class athlete, but are incredibly dangerous for the vast majority of us who are going to the gym to achieve or maintain a certain body type, but live a more traditional life style.

Today I have on Jamie Ivey from the Happy Hour podcast. I’ve been listening to Jamie’s show several years now and she’s actually a huge inspiration to me so when she said yes to coming onto the show I kinda did a happy dance all across my living room. True story. The reason why and why you’ll find out soon in our conversation today about her work in a prison ministry with Redeemed Ministries is that Jamie is incredibly genuine, intelligent, and passionate. Her desire to make Jesus known and to offer her support to women in need is infectious. You simply want to be better after listening to Jamie. Which is why her podcast is a favorite of mine. Today Jamie share with us sex trafficking opened her eyes to the needs of women in jails, how the book Just Mercy by Brian Stevenson opened her heart to have compassion for people entangled in the justice system, and how Redeemed Ministries is opening doors for her to love and encourage women trying to overcome the hard things in their lives that landed them in jail. It’s a really inspiring conversation and I hope you stick around. Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6 million children. Being one of these children is nightmarish enough, but if your abuser is someone you completely trust, then the event becomes all the more traumatic. Jamie Sivrais was one of these children. When he was 10 his father, who had been absent much of his early life, sexually abused him. Emboldened by his act, the abuse escalated to a point where Jamie knew he had to do something to try and put an end to it. Today Jamie runs a non-profit called A Voice for the Innocent which encourages victims of sexual abuse to come forward anonymously with their stories and get help from a community of others who have had similar experiences. The abuse at the hands of Jamie's father is shocking and terrible, but the fact that he has been able to turn such dark events in his life into such a positive act by assisting other victims, makes his story inspirational and uplifting.

Here are a few of Dr. Fitness' secrets about how to watch out for seemingly healthy choices that pack a lot of calories at some of your favorite restaurants. Number 1, Ruby Tuesday's Veggie Burger has over 900 calories, bet you didn't know that. Number 2, Chili's grilled salmon meal gives you 8 oz of salmon some rice and veggies for about 700 calories - probably more than you thought but it sounds good to the Fat Guy. And Number 3, beware the Macha Green Tea Blast at Jamba Juice...that 32 ounce smoothie will cost you well over 600 calories. For that amount of calories I'd much rather have the salmon from Chili's. He had a few more tips but you'll have to listen to get them.Kathie finally came back to the studio and she promised that she would be around more often. She was in Cancun and New York filming the Real Savvy Moms TV show. Real Savvy Moms is a great show for moms that is available on most Public Broadcasting Stations around the US and online. Remember Kathie is one of the top feet and legs model's out there... she is so hot she got to be a body double for Alyssa Milano a few weeks ago. Be sure to check out Kathie's website www.getkathie.com. Also check out her hosting skills on www.RealSavvyMoms.com. Remember we are now on Michigan radio station WKNW this day. They asked us to create a Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy "Wellness Minute." So now a new Wellness Minute runs on that station each day. Each Wellness Minute features the doctor and I going over 5 of his best tips on a given wellness subject like: losing weight, getting in shape, living a healthy lifestyle, etc. We're working on ways to make those tips available to all our listeners. If you have a favorite radio station that you think would benefit from our Wellness Minutes send them an email telling them about it and who knows maybe you can hear us everyday too. Also once again, I need you to please do me a favor. My nine year kid Max made his radio debut in his new show "Kid Power Radio." This is a great show for your kids. It is kind of like a kids version of David Spade's "Showbiz Show" on Comedy Central or Entertainment Tonight. Max recaps the week in entertainment and gives his take and review of what he liked and didn't like on TV, at the movies, video games, in books and in music and even restaurant reviews. Please go to his site and download the show for your kid. And if your kid sends Max an email he'll read it on the air next week. The show can be found at www.kidpowerradio.com and you can email Max at RadioStarMax at Yahoo.com. Your encouragement is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
