Very few people truly love academic standardized testing, but animosity over assessments seems to increase in intensity every year. But are the exams themselves the problem or what their scores reveal? Amy and Mike invited education writer Natalie Wexler to explain why we should listen to what testing tells us. What are five things you will learn in this episode? Do college admissions tests merely reflect cultural or racial bias? Do wealthier families have an unfair advantage because they can afford expensive test prep? How does the elementary school curriculum relate to the inequities we see in high school? What can schools do to help make college admissions and other standardized tests more equitable? What is the role of writing instruction in preventing and compensating for educational inequity? MEET OUR GUEST Natalie Wexler is an education writer and the author of The Knowledge Gap: The Hidden Cause of America’s Broken Education System—and How to Fix It (Avery 2019). She is also the co-author, with Judith C. Hochman, of The Writing Revolution: A Guide to Advancing Thinking Through Writing in All Subjects and Grades (Jossey-Bass 2017), and a senior contributor at Forbes.com. I had someone ask me about starting a podcast. They wanted to "Stand Out" without "Niching Down." The easiest way to stand out is to Niche down. When you do a show like We Have Cancer, Adoptees On, or the Chameleon Breeder, you get providing information that people can't get anyplace else. You end up with a smaller audience size, but a more engaged audience. Podcasting is Closer to Cable Television Than Radio In this clip of "The Loudest Voice," you will hear actor Russel Crowe as Roger Ailes explains how he doesn't want a wide audience. He's is going to purposely make content for a demographic that is being underserved. Roger went on the grow Fox news which dominated cable news for decades. When you turn on cable, you get channels on cooking, animal sports, outdoors, and none of the channels will get anywhere near the audience of the major networks. However, you will have people like my ex-wife who watch HGTV like her life depended on it. COVID Took Natalie Kennedy's Job - Podcasting Delivered Her Dream Today I talk with Natalie Kennedy who is the host of the Anxious Love Podcast. The podcast is where Natalie covers relationship anxiety, ROCD, and upgrading love partnerships-- how to go from DOUBTING your relationship to LOVING it and gushing about your man. You can see where she already has gone from the wide topics of relationships and she niched down. Just like a cable channel. The show is for women. The show is for women having an issue with their relationships. The show is for women who are doubting their relationships and worried about commitment. Today you will hear: 00:58 Podcasting is Closer To Cable TV Than Radio 06:09 Natalie Kennedy Interview 07:13 Natalie Knows Her Niche 09:53 How She Picked Her Niche 11:07 Natalie's Transparency and how she describes her services 12:03 Dealing with Impostor Syndrome 13:37 Proof Of Concept - She had people asking for her services before she offered them. 15:45 Starting Her Podcast 16:41 How Many Episodes Does She Have? - This all happened really fast. 16:55 Is the Podcast Bringing in Clients? - ( spoiler - yes it is !) 17:21 Coaching Insights - How she gets people to open up. 18:45 You Don't Have to Know Everything - Just more than your clients. 19:37 How is Her Business Doing? 20:19 Pivots Don't Kill You 21:00 When Your Message Differs From Mainstream ( this is how you stand out). Find Natalie at https://www.anxiouslovecoach.com/ 23:05 Apple Holiday Break November 22 to December 2 December 23 to January 2 Mistakes Breed Confidence 24:20 If you wait until things are 100% perfect, you'll never launch. Mistakes (are still something we want to avoid) leave to growth. I just moved, and the house is old, and I learned how to fix holes in walls. I hired a contractor who makes a mistake. Did I freak out? No. My experience with fixing previous holes help me stay calm, and I knew what to do. When you make a mistake, realizing you are growing as a person (or you can hire a mentor to help you avoid them, and learn that way). How Long Does it Take To Make Money with a Podcast? 25:22 I get this question all the time. In my travels, I started seeing an answer that start to appear, and reappear over and over. That answer is three years. Obviously Natalie today beat that record. Why do I tell people three years? I started making snippets every time I hear that answer. I forgot to write down who the first clip is. The other three are from Content Heroes Podcast. (Alex Nerney episode) The Business of Podcasting (Gert Mellak interview ) Dave from the Cigar Authority, on Ask the Podcast Coach. Dave's book David VS Goliath What To Do When You are Face to Face with Your Audience 28:33 Just a quick clip showing that I practice what I preach, and when you have a listener in front of you take advantage. Zoom Podtrak P8 Follow Up 30:23 I talked about the Zoom Podtrak P8 in my last episode. I had mentioned that there was an issue with a noise in the headphones. That is definitely an issue. Also, there is no timer count down for the jingle buttons. This makes "talking up" any kind of music a real challenge. Join the School of Podcasting Worry Free 33:20 You can try the private Facebook group, go through the step-by-step videos, and even attend one of the group coaching sessions, and any time in the first 30 days if you're not happy, you can stop and I will refund your money. Go to www.schoolofpodcasting.com/start Natalie's Top Relationship Tip 33:22 I asked Natalie what she sees the most when it comes to her clients in regards to relationship issues. She has a really, really good answer. Coming Attractions 36:15 I will be showing you how to convert your RSS feed into an Excel Spreadsheet on my YouTube Channel I will be interviewing Rob Coste who ended up working with a MAJOR company that will make you say WOA!

Natalie's take-away pieces of advice: Be watchful for social media accounts that are telling you how to think instead of encouraging you to learn. We shouldn't be forced to pick a side. Be wary of those telling you it's one or the other.Identify. Challenge. Replace.Be the change.Protect your mental health. As hard as it is, try to stay away from the media. Or unfollow/mute accounts that are causing pain during this time. Be present with those around you. If every post you see is negative towards the police, you'll start to think and believe everyone thinks that way (guilty!) but is it really the case? I've noticed that once I did a fair bit of unfollowing, the support started to shine through. And remember there are a lot of silent supporters. Seek out accounts that are sharing the good things.Find Natalie's blog article on creating change and overcoming prejudice here: https://familymakescents.com/overcoming-prejudice/Visit Natalie's blog- Family Makes Cents (frugal living and intentional motherhood): http://familymakescents.com/

Natalie Fisher, my client, is a career mindset coach. She now easily and consistently generates new consults and signs ideal clients. But that wasn't always the case, even though she's always been an amazing coach, passionate, and hard-working... and had a huge list for a long time.In our work together, she learned how think and market like a high-end coach... and all the results she wanted followed from that. Like 40K revenue in 6 months while actually doing LESS work.In this podcast, I interview her and we spill the beans on:Why selling lower-priced products isn’t easierLow-end coach thinking vs. high-end coach thinkingHow a low-end coach writes sales pages vs. high-end coachHow to handle when a client says "I'm good today, I don't know if I need coaching"How Natalie changed her thoughts about the pandemic, upgraded her offer and started creating better results for herself and clientsAn exact example of the kind of email that create 6 consultsIf you want to get off the hamster wheel of doing a lot of work for low-end services with small price tags, and start positioning yourself as a high-end coach from integrity, this is a must-listen.------Show notes: Find Natalie here: www.nataliefisher.ca
If you’ve ever looked at your personal relationships and thought wow – there is a pattern of unhappy here - there has to be a better way… you are not alone! Love + belonging are fundamental human needs; it bonds us all and in the absence of it we can feel utterly broken. However, there is a sinister underbelly of co-dependency that is rife in our society + suffocates our closest relationships… an extensive + multifaceted issue that touches every human on the planet. Weaved into Disney stories, Hollywood movies + your favourite tv series - co-dependency is subliminally sold to us as that ‘spark’ or ‘caring’ for those you love - but when faced with the truth that we are each ultimately responsible for our own happiness a deep, rippling confusion that ruptures our reality can leave us reeling. I brought in relationship expert Natalie Anne Murray for an in-depth chat, unpacking what co-dependency really means, how it shows up in our relationships + in what way we can start to remedy this rampant issue. Natalie specialises in helping women to recover from dysfunctional childhood and adult relationships to truly experience deep, lasting transformation… she helps women realign with integrity + power to authentically feel at peace with being true to themselves. As someone who identifies as a recovering people-pleaser, Natalie shares with us her co-dependency wakeup call + unpacks how childhood conditioning + ‘good girl manners’ contribute to the narrative we must ‘be nice’ in order to be loved. We also discuss the distinction between kindness, acts of service + co-dependent behaviour, plus she illuminates that this is not a linear process (like all deep personal development work) with support + emotional co-regulation we can cultivate a beautiful connection with our loved ones that is free of reactive triggers. An unmedicalised, instinctive, intuitive, wild pregnancy seems so far removed from our current interventional, highly pathologized, industrial birth paradigm; that most women don't even know that being your own prenatal care provider is an option. But as you will hear, during my consciousness expanding discussion with Natalie Alaska, it can be, for the majority of women. And is often more connected, more magical, and far more simple than we are led to believe . Natalie discusses how she used her intuition to guide her during pregnancy, and in the lead up to the freebirth of her second son; the ways in which she navigated the external opinion of others around her choice; how she worked through her 'what if' fears; her beautiful pregnancy rituals and also shares with us one of the BEST pregnancy affirmations I've ever heard.I loved this chat - set against the imagery of a young Aussie family exploring the East Coast of Australia in their self-built van. And I think it's one of the most important conversations for other women to hear.Find Natalie here: https://www.instagram.com/nataliealaska__/Watch her wild pregnancy and Freebirth here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ3pyBE6dzTG4T3sBxfwh7g/videoswww.themidwitch.comhttps://www.instagram.com/themidwitch/

On this week's episode of Beauty Bytes with Dr. Kay: Secrets of a Plastic Surgeon™, I chat with the founder of KIP Sleepwear, Natalie Marshall! This boss girl, designer joins me from afar to chat all about her ultra-chic sleepwear line, KIP Sleepwear. The story of KIP Sleepwear is quite inspiring and I loved chatting with Natalie about the importance of restoration and self-care. Natalie started KIP Sleepwear from a small dream about a pair of pajamas that would inevitably share comfort and quality to encourage modern women to invest in rest. Natalie kindly sent me a pair to try ahead of our podcast recording and I have to say... they're extremely luxurious. KIP.’s collection of luxury sleepwear has since rapidly grown to be beloved by brands and celebrities, including Shangri La Hotels & Resorts, Jessica Mulroney, the Real Housewives of Dallas, Ingrid De La Mare-Kenny and more. Natalie Beisner is an amazing short story and essay writer with her own blog, www.thisisnotalie.com. (Clever, right? I love it.) She discusses painful and difficult topics in a simultaneously visceral and beautiful way. Although her blog isn't strictly poetry, so to speak, her style and imagery are both extremely poetic, and any listener or reader can see the story playing out in front of them, while also relating to the emotion of the story. In this Thursday mini episode, we get to know Natalie and a little about her process, background, and the inspiration for her potent words. Natalie Rogers is a 24 year-old entrepreneur from Orlando, FL. She started her first company at 18 years old as a senior in high school and has been in love with entrepreneurship ever since. With her first company reaching 6 figures before graduating college, Natalie understood what a life of freedom was like early on but also felt isolated and alone on her entrepreneurial journey. This feeling sparked Natalie to start a new company that would bring ambitious women together and provide products that empower them to reach their goals in style. She is now most-known for being the Founder of The Klassy Network which launched in May 2018. The brand reached 6 figures in the first six months. Now on track to hit 7 figures this year, Natalie hopes to continue to focus on introducing products that her audience will love and inspiring young ambitious women to live out their dreams along the way! In this episode, Doree and Natalie speak candidly from experience about love and forgiveness and how most people when they break up, think they have to stop loving each other - and love never dies - so the very thing you try to avoid out of anger or hurt in a breakup is what actually keeps you tied to your ex. Forgiveness, love, acceptance and allowing yourself to admit you have love - just that you do not want to be in a relationship with that person anymore is what will ultimately heal you from your breakup. “Relax your body, and the rest of you will lighten up.” ― Haruki Murakami On this week's show, I'm interview children's mindfulness coach Natalie Costa. I love Natz, her enthusiasm is infectious, and everything she posts on social media is great wisdom for kids on how to manage their thoughts and feelings. If only we'd all had a Natz when we were growing up! We talk about the power of the body-mind superloop, and how there are more than just thoughts and feelings, and how we can unhook unhelpful habits. On the show we explore: The kind of tools to deal with the 'wobbles' and how to build emotional intelligence and resilience What we can learn from kids to bring into our day-to-day lives Removing self-worth from being dependant on external factors The mind-body connection, and awareness of how thoughts can impact emotions and behaviours Getting to understand what physical symptoms from emotional triggers can teach us about what's really happening The power of emotional diversity, and how all feelings are fluid How all feelings are welcome, and there's no such thing as a good or bad feeling How thoughts and feelings can be the trigger to guide us to what we need, and reaching out for support.
